The style of these videos are so straight to the point, and tech reviews need way more of this. Loved this comparison and the channel in general. Bought the QN90a just now because our room has skylights so we get direct sunlight and an OLED couldn’t survive in that. Your videos made me incredibly well informed about my purchasing decision, so thank you.
I think people go way too easy on Samsung's dynamic tone mapping. It's extremely hard to get a balanced picture (especially in game mode) and impossible to watch anything that is accurate to the creators intent. Is that not a huge deal?
It is, at least for kind of purist people, but many people usually don't care about accuracy. They are happy when they got their eyes melted and everything "pops".
Not true. If you set source as game console you can adjust almost everything and you don't have locked settings. I do that when I connect my PC to play games and it works just fine. Granted, if I use it as PC source then its terrible since settings are locked and the image is poop.

My priority is just a good picture watching TV and Movies (also video from PC). On my TVs / Monitors ive always used 'normal' mode. I dont like fancy effects. just want real picture as possible. (within budget - 75" Q90A is my max$) Im worried about lifespan of OLED. Thanks for help
There's just something about self emissive technology like OLED that's simply tough to beat right now. It's not without its flaws, but that pixel level precision works wonders for both SDR and HDR.
Yep. I can’t understand LED apologists EXCEPT when talking strictly about peek brightness for HDR. OLED is just frankly a superior panel tech IMO, and it annoys me that Samsung has so stubbornly refused to adopt the tech. It’s why I’m an LG man… Now, MicroLED on the other hand appears to be the Holy Grail, and Samsung appears to be the first to market with it, so maybe the next generation will be different?

@@OroborOSX11 i used both TVS lg c1 and qn90a, i ended up selling lg OLED while the OLED have better blacks it does suffer from lower brightness and it seemed so dim to me, while the QLED have insane brightness that makes colors really pop, and no risk of burn in so QLED is the better TV for me everyone have different preferences.

I had this exact dilemma a month ago and ended up getting the QN95A over the C1, as the potential for screen-burn (no matter how small) is a big worry for me. I'd never be able to relax knowing my kids will leave the PS4 paused for 2 hours when I'm away from the room! That anxiety isn't worth the slightly improved black levels etc. They're both awesome TVs.
I'm in the process of buying a TV these days, I agree with you.Regardless, as the name suggests, organic led will make a ghost logo after 2 or 3 years.You can delay this at the most, but the result is inevitable due to its nature.
@No_Name if not looked after, yes. Modern OLEDs have things built in to try and reduce image retention (screen jiggling, brightness reduction etc.), but it's still a risk. LCD isn't immune to it, but you'd have to leave the image there for weeks as opposed to a few hours. It's worth mentioning that permanent burn-in and image retention aren't the same thing. OLEDs suffer from both if abused, but most of the time you'd "only" see image retention that can generally be fixed with a screen "wash" etc. I suspect for most people with normal viewing habits it'll be fine, but if you can't control the usage of the screen it's still a concern for me.

i disagree non organic led is immune to burn in. yes even if you abuse it. i dont get why everyones so hype about oled. even a full array led should be enough to satisfy the average videophile. i have tons of oled screens including 2 smart phones a laptop and 2 oled tv sets and im about to trash them all cause of dead pixels and burn in. youll get a viewing angle and good picture with a miniled qled. thats what i advise getting and get a larger one.
I have one of each of these tvs OLED and a qled..I agree the OLED is better but not buy a large margin. In a bright room the qled is better. They are both great sets
Ended up going with the QN85A. OLED looks amazing, but we have natural light in our living room and the wife tends to leave the TV on all day with a static image. Neo is near OLED, with is fine by me!
I had a QLED TV 2018 from Samsung. For a few weeks now, you can see the LEDs shining through individually. The screen is not covered homogeneously. You can see bright spots every few centimeters. It looks like plastic has warped due to the warmth of the very bright LEDs. So the QLED TV lasted until shortly after the warranty. I didn't want to buy a new TV after 3 years. I bought LG OLED. the C1 is as bright at the highest level as the Samsung QLED.
@@MrDahoox I also have a Samsung from 2017 and it has developed some dark strips (pi shaped) which look awful on darker scenes, plus light bleeding.. -thinking it's time to replace it / move it to a less used room.
@@BerryNiceToMeetYou The Samsung LED TVs do not have Dolby Vision. LG has it! I have not yet played on the LG OLED TV. But there is an extra gaming mode. The LG cannot be switched off at night. He then performs the pixel cleaning.
Even if OLED is better at some points, the fact that NEO QLED is so good you need a pitch black room, increased ISO and extremely OLED biased test to demonstrate these things can not be ignored. My current OLED will be moved to the bedroom and replaced by a Neo QLED. It is simply not bright enough for my living-room. As usual, thank you for a great video. Raised ISO is for making video. With your eye it is more perceivable because human eye having much more dynamic range. That said, NEO QLED is good for movies but terrible for games. Each person have their own need.
no, it's the opposite. you need an extremely bright room to justify the neo qled because oled is better in basically all normal use cases. not that neo qled is bad... it's just not as good. which is why samsung folded and is going to make OLEDs now to put above the neo qled in their tv range.
If your OLED TV was too dim at daytime, your TV was broken or you used wrong settings, or it was older than 2018. You probably never owned an OLED TV and simply is lying about it, like most LCD owners. Most OLED negativity comes from LCD owners that claim to have owned OLED. Meanwhile OLED scores flawless reviews on all huge AV sites.
I love technology but don't purchase TVs often. Looking at reviews for these flagship TVs is a breath of fresh air compared to other types of consumer tech. Love how technical this review was and I know exactly which TV I need (my room is bright) without even having to go to the store.
Nice comparison, got a C1 77" and a Samsung Q90T 65", the C1 looks almost 3d due to the picture's depth it's a fantastic set. That said i still find myself going to the Qled for daytime viewing, it's still impressive how it manages to overcome a bright room with ease, the Lg catches all the reflections due to the larger size and glossy panel.
@@kmow0909 haha not rich dude just worked my ass of for a very long time. Processing and upscaling are class leading and so is motion. What really stands out is the clarity, i haven't seen anything like it yet. If you get the chance get one your jaw will drop, some pretty decent deals already around.

@@Braconara1981 Also good that you have chosen 77" cos people regret buying 55" immediately. And even 65" owners have remorse but a bit later. You can't upgrade TV so size does really matter.
the point this is missing besides for bright rooms is this. in a few years you will see burned pixels less color and burn in on the oled. meanwhile a miniled will continue to shine with none of those issues. it goes like this.. edge lit < direct < full array < qled < miniled qled < oled < qd oled < micro led. the genius of the qled is that while not equal to oled its darn close. you get benefits i already mention and lower prices especially for screen sizes over 75 inches.
The HDR test should be done with Dolby Vision and HDR10 and HDR10+ so we can see the difference when one TV supports the format and the other doesn't and it has to play HDR10 instead of HDR10+ or Dolby Vision.
I first bought an LG C1 since OLED is all the buzz, I ended up returning it due to low brightness and being too reflective. I got the Samsung QN95A and it's much much better in my livingroom environment than the OLED. For now, it would seem the OLED TVs are only suitable for dark-room usage.
I’m literally in love with the neo qled, disappointed by the q95t last year. But this new miniled technology sounds great for the best of qled and a good black level and ( most of all) NO REFLECTION!!! So important for me
Same. I purchased a Q80T last year and then a QN90A this year… the mini led is phenomenal. With my Series X it’s staggeringly beautiful. I do wish it had Dolby Vision but eh :)

@@mvl6800 With OLED, yes of course, by nature of OLED technology, LCD? Not a chance and mini-LED is still and LCD with an LED backlight and will never be able to achieve a 1M:1 contrast ratio. When micro LED TVs come around however, then yeah it has a shot at it since it's no longer using an LCD panel.
@TECH LOVER. you believe a lot of marketing specs......Just because they SAY they do, doesn't make it real. Go look at projectors as well, lots of them claim 1M:1 contrast ratio. Go look at _actual_ measurements of those and LCD monitors, most will be around the 1000:1 ratio.
I recently updated my 8 year old, 58 inch Panasonic TX58AX802 LCD/LED IPS tv, which at the time was the flagship of the Panasonic range, - to the 65 inch Panasonic JZ1500 OLED tv. I naturally had reservations about brightness levels in my 18 by 16 feet lounge, with one of the 18 feet walls being all window from above 3 feet. Those reservations provwd to be unfounded. I have no issues with screen luminance, even in direct sunlight. That having been said, the screen is at a 90 degree angle to the window! So, I’ve ended up with a highly impressive 65 inch OLED which cost almost half what I paid for that 58 inch IPS 8 years ago and which is more than adquately bright.
I Just literally sold my 65" B9 and I was deciding between the C1 and the QN90A. After a very difficult decision I went for the OLED technology again thanks to this video. The Tv is coming tomorrow and I can't wait playing Series X on it.
Reason is simple - I wanted a better picture quality. C1 arrived 6hrs ago. The SD/HD upscaling on my satelite receiver (Vu+ Solo 4K) and UA-cam is 10x better than on the B9. The colours are more punchier on every source. The motion looks smoother too. Just played Mauer der Toten on the Series X and I can already see more details that I didn't noticed on the B9. B9 now looks dull. The only drawback for me atm are the speakers and no 5.1 DTS in eARC/optical. B9 sounded richer and deeper. Bear in mind I have tested it only for 4hrs. Still loads of testing to do. Edit - Every sound feature on the C1 is off now and it's much better but it's still not that good as B9 DTS now work over the eARC. Had to set the sound output to pass though on the C1
As someone that went through two Samsung QN90As, I can tell you I'm much happier with my LG C1 now. Too many problems with vertical banding and DSE on Samsung sets. Not to mention blooming in game mode. Great brightness and color volume can't overcome manufacturing issues and too few dimming zones.
You can get rid of most the blooming by settings local dimming to standard or low. The default gamemode settings suck, but you can make it look really good with some tweaking.
@@tygobermind3640 You can change source to game console and change many settings that are otherwise locked which can give you much better image. I don't know why people don't talk about that.
@@tygobermind3640 I don't deny you can make it look great. Darker scenes do simply fall apart. Not enough dimming zones. Not to mention how everything gets nerfed in game mode. Just the way it is. Honestly it's something I could put up with if the panels weren't all infested with DSE and vertical banding problems. Edit: As a side note, Samsung's dynamic tone mapping goes against artists/developers intent. Would rather it track properly.
I have a big, bright room but I still pick OLED every time I get a new TV because I don't really care that much about the perfect image when I watch stuff on the TV during day-time. It's the late night movie in full darkness where the TV has to shine! IMO OLED does a decent job in bright rooms aswell.
this is very true. ever since CRTs went out, the weak point of all screens were dark scenes. i've lived long enough with that annoying washed out look to dark pictures. time to move on for good if i can help it.
As somebody who recently bought an LG CX and has been enjoying it but started to wonder if the QN90A would have been better, I appreciate this comparison. It reaffirmed that I made the correct decision for my situation. I’m able to completely control the light in my living room and prefer to watch movies/play games in darkness anyway. Personally, I also find my OLED more than bright enough in SDR and HDR. Perhaps that’s because I upgraded from an incredibly cheap LED, but regardless the OLED seems perfect for my use case. The brightness of QN90A is impressive, but it’s shortcomings would have absolutely bothered me. Of course in the grand scheme of things, both are superb choices that most people would probably be pleased with.
I just got a new 77" G1 and 7.2.4 surround sound with a Denon 6700 and Elac debut 2 speakers and couldn't be happier. If you're a gamer there's only one option that delivers: LG C and G series OLED's.
Just a suggestion - It might be worth showing whether the TV is capable of doing Pass-Through of uncompressed LPCM multi-channel audio via eArc. If you are using the 120Hz feature of the latest consoles then it's most likely that you will be going direct from console to the TV 2.1 HDMI port (after all, it's one of the big features of the latest TVs and very few AV amps will allow you to go the other way). So to then discover that the TV is not capable of passing through the uncompressed audio to a soundbar / AV receiver is a bit of a shock. The Samsungs all currently send stereo 2.0 output onwards forcing you select lossy bitstream output options on the consoles in order to set 5.1 or 7.1 output to your speakers. I believe LG and Sony had the same issue but have resolved it. Otherwise great review
I have the Samsung Q80T, but I’m here to see if it’s worth upgrading and noticed your comment. The Q80T definitely supports eARC at 120Hz with Dolby surround sound over the 2.1 HDMI gaming port. I have the PS5 and have no issues with this
Personally, I go for color accuracy, and contrast. So, I will go a "VERY GOOD" OLED every time, which it sounds Samsung is agreeing, since they are developing a new hybrid based on OLED technology. That said, the only advantage of actual QLED, or any LCD is the ability to offer a brighter picture, which means nothing to me. I can always darken the room when it comes to watching a good flick in all its glory.
I hope OLEDs will be able to deliver high APL scenes better eventually. That beach scene at 12:10 is quite a big difference. It looks like the sun is not even out that day on C1
That's because dynamic tone mapping is defintiley disabled on that oled to pReSeRvE cReAtiVe iNteNt, if he enabled it that scene would come to life. But of course at the expense of "accuracy" which is what sophisticated videophiles like vincent strive for
The exposure of Vincent's camera is adjusted to the brightest TV in the room. Making the dimmer TV look darker than in real world viewing. 800nits is plenty if you're not watching in some completely lit up family room.
It's because his camera has been adjusted to the way brighter screen of the Samsung but if money is no object you could always opt for the new LG OLED EVO the G model which is about 30% brighter when viewing Dolby Vision HDR but costs about £3,299 at the moment
When the difference becomes neglible overall, perhaps we should also focus on which design we favor, or which remote and user interface we prefer. Or perhaps you prefer a split unit, since it only has one cable going to the screen.
Im sorry, but after going LG OLED, I can't go back to Led ever. Nor Samsung, Oled just immerses you into every aspect. Playing Gears 5, walking in the dark areas just made me feel like i was in the game.

My 5 year old lg just hit replaced right b4 the warrenty ended due to terrible burn in. I payd £2,600 for the 55 inch and was given £1,500 in vouchers to buy a new one. 5 years is not long for a 2 grand plus TV really. Gone are the days of 15 year lasting tvs lol.
@@truthhurts2879 And that’s why you don’t get an OLED TV. If I was you I would’ve rather gotten a flagship LCD/LED (I think there was no QLED from Samsung back then) because it wouldn’t get burn ins after a few years and flagship LCDs/LEDs from Samsung are good too and have good colors. OLED is really only good for small screens under 7 inches (for example smartphones). A LCD/LED can last you 15-20+ years, an OLED will only last you 5-6 years max. Most people keep their TVs for over 10 years until they upgrade or when the TVs die and don’t turn on anymore.
@@michaelyounes29 Mine is 10 years old (Samsung UE46D8000 LED Full HD Smart TV) most people probably only upgrade after 10-15 years because a TV (if you buy a real TV and not a 300-400$ toy, I’m not saying 300-400$ is little, it’s not much for a whole TV but if you’re buying a TV at least get one that won’t be an eyesore to look at, decent TVs start at 700-800$ and if you can’t afford to immediately pay for one then save money and get one) is an expensive investment and it’s a hassle to move the old one out of the way, put out the TV, set it up etc. Only rich people get 1500-3000$ flagship OLED/Neo QLED TVs (such as shown in this video) and upgrade only 5-6 years later.
@@truthhurts2879 Hasn't technology improved to avoid burnin in OLEDs in the meantime? I suppose for that 1500 you can buy something of a quality at least similar to what you had 5 years ago. It's only sad from a durability perspective.
The image degradation on the nqled in game-mode kills it for me since that's my use case 90% of the time. Thank you for covering that part, I'll wait for LG's 42 inch oled early next year.
I agree. I have a CX and was considering switching because of various problem (VRR flicker and horizontal banding among other) but image degradation in game mode here ruins it, might as well go for a random qled tv. I guess I will wait for a next generation of TV but I think I will avoid oled in the future.
I thought about this a lot when I bought my OLED. My room is darker, and the movies I really like are also dark. For many families, I think OLED is a poor choice, but for me, it was the right one. My favorite movies are like Alita, IT, Matrix, John Wick, The Protoge, Joker, Pacific Rim, etc... Maybe in time there will be a more perfect TV in the next few years, but choosing the best one for your type of movies and environment is important. @@johna9292 If your absolutely priorities are perfect black level, uniformity, and viewing angle then OLED is your choice, but for general use is QLED better, it gets much brighter, OLED is just too dark for a bright room, and you will be disappointed.
@@yajnalgibno6536 You are welcome. I have C1 OLED and it's too dark for a bright room, but from recent reviews, the new C3 generation is much brighter, 2 or 3 times more nits, so I'm guessing OLEDs are getting very close to QLEDs, but your wallet will cry.
A good review, but there's something about it you should consider. OLED is superior out of the box. There's little question about that. But I'd love to see a comparison over the life of the product. This is something I've yet to see from any review. Durability. So when contemplating a new TV ask yourself some questions. What are your expectations on longevity? Are you looking to keep it 5 years? 10 years? What? It's a big purchase. Most people will not be swapping theirs out like a fresh pair of underwear. Ummm....so to speak. And as importantly, what are your usage patterns? Do you simply watch dynamic programs, videos and films without a lot of static images? Or do you watch a lot of business, news, sports channels , weather channels etc. that are usually replete with static images? Where am I going with this? Burn in. Simply put OLEC burns in. I've a 65' LG OLED TV that's about 6 years old now, and I can clearly see the burn-in of static images from some of the channels I mentioned that I watch a great deal (Business Chnl, sports, etc.). If you plan to swap out TV's after 2 to 4 years then I don't see a problem. OLED wins. But if you're looking to use it for a decade or more I'd advise staying away from OLED. Burn in, once it starts only gets worse. You won't like it after a time. Samsungs product may run a similar risk, but I suspect its probabilities are lower than OLED over that decades worth of time and use. Just some thoughts worth about that much John~ American Net'Zen
I agree. Despite Samsung's continued eArc issues I bought the QN95 partly because I am not sure the OLED will look as good in 5-10 years time, but also because in a bright room there's not really any choice. To me OLED is much worse in a bright room than QLED in a dark one, because while QLED has FALD to largely compensate, and get pretty damn close to OLED int he dark, OLED is just completely stuffed in a bright room and therefore a bigger compromise
@@DanielBlaney Meh, there's still a risk and they'll eventually burn in. Even if they employ tricks against burn-in, the image also degrades because burn-in is just a phenomenon of uneven degradation. OLED displays are sorta disposable, so you have to keep that in mind when purchasing.
@@thomasfischer9259 That's just a personal anecdote, one plasma TV that looks good to you. I'm certain that you babied your TV, or were at the very least conscious of the burn-in issues. You can't expect everyone using the TV to take good care of it, and it will still degrade even if you make sure there's no static images. A great screen that's degraded by 20% in maybe 5 years will still look quite good. If you want an anecdote, my Samsung S5 bought a few months after launch had really bad burn-in after 3 years, maybe it appeared after around 2. I know a factor would be that it got really heated with light use, but that's still an anecdote. What isn't an anecdote is that OLED is made of organic material, which degrades with use and over time. Image quality will worsen with each use by incremental amounts even if no image gets burned in.
I owned a 65" plasma for 10 years that I used as a HTPC. It only had very minor burn-in towards the end of its life that I could only see on e.g. a solid white screen when standing close to the TV. OLED was a no-brainer to replace it.
My 2012 Samsung 65" plasma looked like new in 2021 no burn ins. But the power board went out and it will take a bit to find a repair shop for it so I went OLED C1 as a fill in. Arrives in 2 days.
This video did help me, and saved me money, man I nearly pulled the trigger on the LG OLED. I have a very bright living room, and that LG would've crushed me. Thanks again

it seems from the video that the samsung showed more stars in the Gravity scene than the LG. is this something you notice in person? or were some of the stars just dimmer and not able to be captured by the camera?

Did you buy the tv for a living room,? I think you made the right choice. I bought the Sony A80j for my dark bedroom and the picture is so dim and dark it’s not enjoyable to watch, I have to tweak vivid mode, the only mode I enjoy watch anything on. Stick with the qn90a I wish I had bought that instead.

I watched this on an LG OLED, and I could really see the differences. I think it helps to have a high-quality television in order to get the full impact of these tests.
Glad I went with the C1. I was really thinking about going with the QN95A for longevity reasons, but that blooming is still pretty bad. Once MicroLED is mainstream I'll be taking a look at that.
The blooming is never that bad in real life, he even points this out in the video - it's the camera ISO causing it to be much more pronounced. In fact, it's unnoticeable a vast majority of the time.

Just received my QN85A and I don't know why it got all that hate?! The blacks are so deep and the local dimming is beautiful. Yes without local dimming it's ugly but why would I turn it off!
Especially for 2019 models the gap was much higher, but try not to sweat it too much, if you didn't know anything about oled you would think yours was super dope. I always try to get the newest tech but not beat myself up over something else slightly superior and just really enjoy the great tech I have. For example I bought the i9 11900k for my new computer build before the reviews came out and was kind of beating myself up for not waiting for AMD's product to come back in stock. But then I realized I still had a better setup than 99% of the people on the planet so what am I really complaining about.
Don't sweat it, man. OLED is clearly the superior image quality when put side to side to (NEO) QLED, but if you don't put them side to side and don't 'look for trouble' on your QLED you'll be fine. I mean, I appreciate this channel testing a variety of video tests. But keep in mind that not all of them (like testing with a small moving white box onto a black screen) would ever occur in a 'real-life situation'. I like OLED, and I like LG as a company. I don't like Samsung. But I'll probably resort to QLED anyway as burn in is going to be a problem for my usage. Even though I know the lesser image quality will be a trade off. Just enjoy the picture quality you have now and stick with it until the next technology is affordable.
I have had a B7 oled for a few years now. I game a lot. I have gotten used to switching to the menu every 30 minutes to an hour while gaming. I don't watch any TV with static images either. You really have to try to get burn in on the TV from my experience. The same was true with Plasma. I was worried when I got it but snagged a new one for such a cheap price and I can never go back.
@@Adamantaimai just 10 or 20 seconds. And I mean sometimes I will game for 10 hours straight on a weekend. I have really put the tv through it and I can't be more pleased. Get a sound bar if you can.
The software on reducing burn-in has become so good that it isn’t an issue at all anymore. Nowadays they even advertise it being the better game tv. You just don’t want to pull the plug after turning the tv off with the remote, because then you interrupt this pixel refresh program and that greatly increases the chance of getting burn-in
@@tigerlife7530 Hey, I think you're mis-understanding OLED burn-in. It's not about single session duration, instead it's the cumulative effect over time of bright static content in the same screen position that causes burn-in. You're wasting your time if you think occasionally switching to a menu during a single viewing session is going to help. It'll make no difference whatsoever, other than to interrupt the enjoyment of your game.
Just bought the Neo Qled 8590c and its outstanding. Unless you have TV's sitting next to each other it does not matter, once a decent set is in your house its all good.
If it’s so bright in your room that you can’t see the TV, that’s your hint that you should be outside doing something. When it’s dark and miserable out, take comfort in your OLED.
Lcd led is bright.its just use for airport or advertising.Oled is not same bright doesnt mean its dark.its just normal for indoor use.its good for movies
Of course, black and contrast are better on OLED, but ... on a bright day, this difference is small. OLED has a screen like a mirror, everything is reflected. There is also a risk of burnout. Also, the HDR effect is much weaker on OLED. If they improved it a bit, OLED would be perfect. Unfortunately, it is not perfect.
The will be QN90A VA panel is superior. But It would be interesting for the people who can't get the VA panel version. So and IPS QN90 IPS vs QNED 90 would make more sense. But an other tv with VA panel (like QN90T) would still probably be a better buy.

@Doug Chism All type of lcd displays have to a degree of DSE. Contrast is king in image quality. The QN90A VA has a wide viewing layer, that increases the viewing angle but decrease the contrast. Overall the contrast is still a lot better than an IPS panel could ever deliver. I don't care what you buy. If you want an LG, buy the LG.
The big issue with any local dimming technology is as soon as it is utilized good luck maintaining any level of color accuracy. This is why the OLED displays are still king. No off angle contrast/color shift is a huge plus as well.
Havnt been here for ages...nice vid vince. So nothings really changed with the advantages and disadvantages of both technologies. Youre right of course..its all about what works for you.
I wonder how come other reviewers never mention that the FALD system gets gimped when playing games on these miniled TVs, looking at the DMC footage at 9:09 The samsung looked so washed out, not much better than an edge lit tv, but looks much better when switched out of game mode. while the OLED tv maintains the same image quality and contrast no matter the input. For gaming its an easy choice to go oled tbh, oled also has instant pixel response times which is another benefit no smearing or ghosting.
Game picture is generally too precise and difficult to benefit from fald. I've had in the Panasonic dx900 and Sony zd9 with several hundreds dimming zones and in most of the cases I hated the dimming gimmick with games, so that I used to completely turn off local dimming for games. Luckily, from that time Sony and Panasonic started making Oleds that are the only true tvs after crt and plasma.
@@astrocslopes863 bad game mode quality is an led issues as they all have to turn down zones and change the dimming algorithm in game mode to help with input lag lol
Just feed the tv a 120hz signal and you don't need to use the game mode to get the low input lag. Without game mode you will lose free sync buy the minimal refresh rate is 48hz. So it's to high anyway. But you gain the normal FALD system which is worth it.
I think we are still a few years off before we get the perfect tv. Atm you have to lose a feature to gain a feature. I'm still going with the qled for the time being as I use it in a bright room as well as dark. I also use the tv to game on for upto 7 hours most days and I really don't like the idea of screen burn, even if it is a low risk, its still a risk.
That's a excellent choice for long gaming sessions and brighter rooms, also still delivers a awesome HDR experience especially compared to cheaper HDR TVs

I have the lg c1 and what really bothers me is the low brightness, and the automatic brightness limiter ABL, it's really bad to the extent in the same show that you're watching when it's in low brightness scenes the brightness is good, but when there are scenes with bright images it dims down it is really annoying, then i sold my LG c1 and bought samsung qn90a and the brightness is so much better color and the details are really popping you won't get that with OLED even the brightest OLED like sony a90j, but the problem with QN90A blacks is not as good as LG C1 but you won't notice this issue unless you are in a dark room with no lights, and 90% of the time you won't notice blooming, so for me QN90A is the better tv.
I wouldn't be surprised if LG has custom algorithms to detect test patterns and demo content that scales back ABL. My C1 was as bright as my 12 year old TN monitor, great for cinema in the dark but just embarrassing performance at all other times. Refunded that trash and got an X90j, then refunded that junk(terrible panel). Maybe next year I'll actually keep a TV I buy for gaming.
You must be blind. In HDR the Samsung with its wrongfully put tonemapping overbrightens everything, so the highlights won't pop, but have way more contrast on the C1!
@@chinogambino9375 LG is supposedly adding a heat sink next year. So hopefully that’ll help some. Hisense’s dual cell and TCL’s OD Zero are something to keep an eye on for this year. So hopefully next year, when you’re ready to buy, your options will be better
I have no ideas what ur talking about. I have had the c1 for 4 months and never had that happen. Maybe you didn’t turn off the auto brightness or something?
Great review. Objective. I just bought an LG C2 (arriving tomorrow) (why am I still watching reviews..? hmm. err, anyway..) which has IRO 20% improved brightness levels over the C1. Not really concern as TV postion means it never has any direct sunlight on it and room is generally not too bright (or natural light levels can be easily reduced with opaque window blinds).
My TV is on more than 12 hours a day and there are often fixed pixels areas. I'm tempted by the OLED C1 but I'm not convinced it would survive my use case for long.
My three LG OLED TV's are on 8+ hours per day as the only PC monitors of their respective PC's, most of the time displaying the Windows desktop or the Chrome browser. No burn-in after 2-3 years of use each. That's not saying it can't happen to you or anyone, just relaying my personal experience with three of these sets.
Is it for a living room? Will more than one person be using the tv if that’s the case get the qled. If for a dark bedroom or man cave go oled. I bought the Sony oled for my bedroom mostly for movies and tv shows and it’s still too dim and dark if I could do it over again I probably would get the Samsung qn90a.

I just bought the LG OLED65B16LA as it was on offer from RS for £1,131.10 and as I can't personally see any difference in picture quality to the C1 that price was perfect for me, the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A was selling for £1,599 with a £300 cash back so £1,299 so still £167.90 less than the Samsung, and I still think the OLED's picture quality is superior to NEO QLED's even if they can go much brighter for me it's the perfect contrast and the total black where OLED wins plus I love Dolby Vision not available on Samsung TV's. So I see a lot of comments about OLED longevity. I must have been fortunate to have my 65" C8 built on a Wednesday because I have over 10000 hours on it, averages to about watching it 3hrs a day for 9 years. Looks and works as the day I purchased it. I watch a lot of Rakuten/Vickie with mostly subtitles and no burn in. We love the color, contrast and black levels that pop. We just purchased a Sony 91j (85") for the theater room and although calibrated it brings color and contrast close to the OLED it just does not give us that 3 dimensional feel and look as an OLED so we are exchanging it for a LG 77" C1. For us the brightness is more than adequate in the daytime and phenomenal at night. Good luck on your choices. I feel you cannot go wrong with the higher end TVs being built today.
We have the LG on our kitchen wall and the Qled in the living area. We have a very bright room with a large window so the sun shines in. We find the Qled to be a little better in the bright environment. The LG is also great but suits the slightly darker kitchen. My only problem with LG is quality control. Our LG had to be changed TWICE, firstly due to a high number of dead pixels and secondly, dark patches on the panel. We've never had an issue with quality from Samsung, but LG do not take quality control seriously enough. The trouble and stress getting them to change a TV twice was not a pleasant experience and we're not sure if would buy an LG again.
Just want to point out a clear flaw in LG’s MCFI algorithm on the LG CX…which I’m also curious, if this affects the 2021 models as well?…..figured I’d point them out, since you pointed out some clear flaws in this video, which I have experienced myself as well. I’m also curious how many other CX owners experience this issue. I’ve seen it all over the forums, so I know it’s not just me. This issue is a near black flicker, which becomes very, very apparent in HDR/DV content, and is immersion breaking, leaving MCFI unusable to me. Even at the lowest values, it’s very noticeable. It’s almost as if the interpolated frames have a different gamma or something. All I can say is this drives me crazy, and I thought a fix would of come via a FW update by now. I knew I should of returned this set, once I discovered how broken DV really was. Still beating myself up over this.
Decided upgrade my Q60R to a QN90A and I couldn't be happier with the picture quality. I am having an issue with my Series X and PS5 on the HDR calibration screen. You mentioned in one of your videos that even though the new Samsung QLED support HGIG, it still tone maps which makes it hard to use the calibration. How many click from darkest should I have my Neo QLED set at?
I don't know if it's the dispersion layer for viewing angles that Samsung uses or if it's just an artifact of backlight technologies, but the OLED always looks so much sharper than any samsung TV. It's like samsung has less ppi even though I know it doesn't.
Here's a question, why is tone mapping allegedly more difficult with more zones, yet OLED has pixel level tone mapping. Surely that would be the most challenging of all?
No. One has absolute control over it's picture. The other has limited control while trying to look like it has absolute control. It's akin to the difference between being in the cockpit of a vehicle vs controlling it remotely with partial controls
Still got my LG C9 and I refuse to get anything other than Oled in the future (unless something better comes along). Nothing really compairs at this particular moment. Maybe we will get something better in the future but for now, Oled is and has been king since it was first introduced.
An obvious flaw for me personally, when discussing OLED technology... The director didn't have OLED in mind while making the film nor when it was projected in the cinema... My opinion only; OLED is beyond a natural 'film' image. Coupled with the burn-in problem, (I watch movies and play lots of games... Helped me choose LED... Just over a year ago... I could have purchased a 55 inch 4k OLED, but instead, I bought a 75 inch 4k LED! Sure side-by-side OLED would seem superior to the eye... But a 75 inch tv on the wall is a sight to behold!!!
Most of the Hollywood colourists use Panasonic professional OLED screens to edit all the movies they make on them and the directors view them on the same screens too
I say that was a fair comparison! I pretty much saw what you saw, and you were on point. I'll say the LG has a better picture for darker content and the QLED is better in brighter content! Hasn't nothing changed, each still has the same problems! 😅
That's why MicroLED is a thing, it solves both problems :-P and yeah the price is high but that was always like this when some new tech came out. Looking forward in 10 years when MicroLED TV's will drop down the prices like Oled's did lol.

I think people go way too easy on Samsung's dynamic tone mapping. It's extremely hard to get a balanced picture (especially in game mode) and impossible to watch anything that is accurate to the creators intent. Is that not a huge deal?
It is, at least for kind of purist people, but many people usually don't care about accuracy. They are happy when they got their eyes melted and everything "pops".
Not true. If you set source as game console you can adjust almost everything and you don't have locked settings. I do that when I connect my PC to play games and it works just fine. Granted, if I use it as PC source then its terrible since settings are locked and the image is poop.

There's just something about self emissive technology like OLED that's simply tough to beat right now. It's not without its flaws, but that pixel level precision works wonders for both SDR and HDR.
Yep. I can’t understand LED apologists EXCEPT when talking strictly about peek brightness for HDR. OLED is just frankly a superior panel tech IMO, and it annoys me that Samsung has so stubbornly refused to adopt the tech. It’s why I’m an LG man…
Now, MicroLED on the other hand appears to be the Holy Grail, and Samsung appears to be the first to market with it, so maybe the next generation will be different?

@@OroborOSX11 i used both TVS lg c1 and qn90a, i ended up selling lg OLED while the OLED have better blacks it does suffer from lower brightness and it seemed so dim to me, while the QLED have insane brightness that makes colors really pop, and no risk of burn in so QLED is the better TV for me everyone have different preferences.

Backlight is a dealbreaker for me. It's OLED for me until MicroLED is ready. I hope Samsungs OLED will be good. Competition is always great.

I had this exact dilemma a month ago and ended up getting the QN95A over the C1, as the potential for screen-burn (no matter how small) is a big worry for me. I'd never be able to relax knowing my kids will leave the PS4 paused for 2 hours when I'm away from the room! That anxiety isn't worth the slightly improved black levels etc. They're both awesome TVs.
I'm in the process of buying a TV these days, I agree with you.Regardless, as the name suggests, organic led will make a ghost logo after 2 or 3 years.You can delay this at the most, but the result is inevitable due to its nature.
@No_Name if not looked after, yes. Modern OLEDs have things built in to try and reduce image retention (screen jiggling, brightness reduction etc.), but it's still a risk. LCD isn't immune to it, but you'd have to leave the image there for weeks as opposed to a few hours.
It's worth mentioning that permanent burn-in and image retention aren't the same thing. OLEDs suffer from both if abused, but most of the time you'd "only" see image retention that can generally be fixed with a screen "wash" etc.
I suspect for most people with normal viewing habits it'll be fine, but if you can't control the usage of the screen it's still a concern for me.
@No_Name washed out colours is something you don't have to worry about with a Samsung! They might even need taming down slightly 😉

i disagree non organic led is immune to burn in. yes even if you abuse it. i dont get why everyones so hype about oled. even a full array led should be enough to satisfy the average videophile. i have tons of oled screens including 2 smart phones a laptop and 2 oled tv sets and im about to trash them all cause of dead pixels and burn in. youll get a viewing angle and good picture with a miniled qled. thats what i advise getting and get a larger one.
I have one of each of these tvs OLED and a qled..I agree the OLED is better but not buy a large margin. In a bright room the qled is better. They are both great sets
Ended up going with the QN85A. OLED looks amazing, but we have natural light in our living room and the wife tends to leave the TV on all day with a static image. Neo is near OLED, with is fine by me!
In my country Neo QLED is the same price as OLED C1
I had a QLED TV 2018 from Samsung. For a few weeks now, you can see the LEDs shining through individually. The screen is not covered homogeneously. You can see bright spots every few centimeters. It looks like plastic has warped due to the warmth of the very bright LEDs. So the QLED TV lasted until shortly after the warranty. I didn't want to buy a new TV after 3 years. I bought LG OLED. the C1 is as bright at the highest level as the Samsung QLED.
@@MrDahoox I also have a Samsung from 2017 and it has developed some dark strips (pi shaped) which look awful on darker scenes, plus light bleeding.. -thinking it's time to replace it / move it to a less used room.
@@BerryNiceToMeetYou The Samsung LED TVs do not have Dolby Vision. LG has it! I have not yet played on the LG OLED TV. But there is an extra gaming mode. The LG cannot be switched off at night. He then performs the pixel cleaning.

Even if OLED is better at some points, the fact that NEO QLED is so good you need a pitch black room, increased ISO and extremely OLED biased test to demonstrate these things can not be ignored. My current OLED will be moved to the bedroom and replaced by a Neo QLED. It is simply not bright enough for my living-room. As usual, thank you for a great video. Raised ISO is for making video. With your eye it is more perceivable because human eye having much more dynamic range.
That said, NEO QLED is good for movies but terrible for games. Each person have their own need.
no, it's the opposite. you need an extremely bright room to justify the neo qled because oled is better in basically all normal use cases. not that neo qled is bad... it's just not as good. which is why samsung folded and is going to make OLEDs now to put above the neo qled in their tv range.

If your OLED TV was too dim at daytime, your TV was broken or you used wrong settings, or it was older than 2018. You probably never owned an OLED TV and simply is lying about it, like most LCD owners. Most OLED negativity comes from LCD owners that claim to have owned OLED. Meanwhile OLED scores flawless reviews on all huge AV sites.
I love technology but don't purchase TVs often. Looking at reviews for these flagship TVs is a breath of fresh air compared to other types of consumer tech. Love how technical this review was and I know exactly which TV I need (my room is bright) without even having to go to the store.

Nice comparison, got a C1 77" and a Samsung Q90T 65", the C1 looks almost 3d due to the picture's depth it's a fantastic set. That said i still find myself going to the Qled for daytime viewing, it's still impressive how it manages to overcome a bright room with ease, the Lg catches all the reflections due to the larger size and glossy panel.
Envious of your financial stabilty. But does 1080p TV content e.g sports and soccer look good on 77"

What really stands out is the clarity, i haven't seen anything like it yet. If you get the chance get one your jaw will drop, some pretty decent deals already around.

I've just bought mine and notice this as well
the point this is missing besides for bright rooms is this. in a few years you will see burned pixels less color and burn in on the oled. meanwhile a miniled will continue to shine with none of those issues. it goes like this.. edge lit < direct < full array < qled < miniled qled < oled < qd oled < micro led. the genius of the qled is that while not equal to oled its darn close. you get benefits i already mention and lower prices especially for screen sizes over 75 inches.

The HDR test should be done with Dolby Vision and HDR10 and HDR10+ so we can see the difference when one TV supports the format and the other doesn't and it has to play HDR10 instead of HDR10+ or Dolby Vision.
I first bought an LG C1 since OLED is all the buzz, I ended up returning it due to low brightness and being too reflective. I got the Samsung QN95A and it's much much better in my livingroom environment than the OLED. For now, it would seem the OLED TVs are only suitable for dark-room usage.

Same. I purchased a Q80T last year and then a QN90A this year… the mini led is phenomenal. With my Series X it’s staggeringly beautiful. I do wish it had Dolby Vision but eh :)

@TECH LOVER. you believe a lot of marketing specs......Just because they SAY they do, doesn't make it real. Go look at projectors as well, lots of them claim 1M:1 contrast ratio. Go look at _actual_ measurements of those and LCD monitors, most will be around the 1000:1 ratio.
I recently updated my 8 year old, 58 inch Panasonic TX58AX802 LCD/LED IPS tv, which at the time was the flagship of the Panasonic range, - to the 65 inch Panasonic JZ1500 OLED tv. I naturally had reservations about brightness levels in my 18 by 16 feet lounge, with one of the 18 feet walls being all window from above 3 feet. Those reservations provwd to be unfounded. I have no issues with screen luminance, even in direct sunlight. That having been said, the screen is at a 90 degree angle to the window!
So, I’ve ended up with a highly impressive 65 inch OLED which cost almost half what I paid for that 58 inch IPS 8 years ago and which is more than adquately bright.
I Just literally sold my 65" B9 and I was deciding between the C1 and the QN90A.
After a very difficult decision I went for the OLED technology again thanks to this video.
The Tv is coming tomorrow and I can't wait playing Series X on it.

B9 is still a magnificent TV. Why switch now?
Reason is simple - I wanted a better picture quality.
C1 arrived 6hrs ago. The SD/HD upscaling on my satelite receiver (Vu+ Solo 4K) and UA-cam is 10x better than on the B9. The colours are more punchier on every source. The motion looks smoother too. Just played Mauer der Toten on the Series X and I can already see more details that I didn't noticed on the B9. B9 now looks dull.
The only drawback for me atm are the speakers and no 5.1 DTS in eARC/optical.
B9 sounded richer and deeper.
Bear in mind I have tested it only for 4hrs. Still loads of testing to do.
Edit - Every sound feature on the C1 is off now and it's much better but it's still not that good as B9
DTS now work over the eARC. Had to set the sound output to pass though on the C1

As someone that went through two Samsung QN90As, I can tell you I'm much happier with my LG C1 now. Too many problems with vertical banding and DSE on Samsung sets. Not to mention blooming in game mode. Great brightness and color volume can't overcome manufacturing issues and too few dimming zones.
I went through 3 QN90A and had a 65 C1 and a 83A90J and prefer my 75Z8H to all of them price to value overall
You can get rid of most the blooming by settings local dimming to standard or low. The default gamemode settings suck, but you can make it look really good with some tweaking.
@@tygobermind3640 You can change source to game console and change many settings that are otherwise locked which can give you much better image. I don't know why people don't talk about that.
Get back to us in about a year and a half, when your burn in starts to creep in.
@@tygobermind3640 I don't deny you can make it look great. Darker scenes do simply fall apart. Not enough dimming zones. Not to mention how everything gets nerfed in game mode. Just the way it is. Honestly it's something I could put up with if the panels weren't all infested with DSE and vertical banding problems.
Edit: As a side note, Samsung's dynamic tone mapping goes against artists/developers intent. Would rather it track properly.
I have a big, bright room but I still pick OLED every time I get a new TV because I don't really care that much about the perfect image when I watch stuff on the TV during day-time.
It's the late night movie in full darkness where the TV has to shine!

this is very true. ever since CRTs went out, the weak point of all screens were dark scenes. i've lived long enough with that annoying washed out look to dark pictures. time to move on for good if i can help it.

As somebody who recently bought an LG CX and has been enjoying it but started to wonder if the QN90A would have been better, I appreciate this comparison. It reaffirmed that I made the correct decision for my situation. I’m able to completely control the light in my living room and prefer to watch movies/play games in darkness anyway. Personally, I also find my OLED more than bright enough in SDR and HDR. Perhaps that’s because I upgraded from an incredibly cheap LED, but regardless the OLED seems perfect for my use case. The brightness of QN90A is impressive, but it’s shortcomings would have absolutely bothered me. Of course in the grand scheme of things, both are superb choices that most people would probably be pleased with.

I just got a new 77" G1 and 7.2.4 surround sound with a Denon 6700 and Elac debut 2 speakers and couldn't be happier. If you're a gamer there's only one option that delivers: LG C and G series OLED's.
If you play games or a lot of bright content the LG CX will not cut it. It didn't for me.

Just a suggestion - It might be worth showing whether the TV is capable of doing Pass-Through of uncompressed LPCM multi-channel audio via eArc. If you are using the 120Hz feature of the latest consoles then it's most likely that you will be going direct from console to the TV 2.1 HDMI port (after all, it's one of the big features of the latest TVs and very few AV amps will allow you to go the other way). So to then discover that the TV is not capable of passing through the uncompressed audio to a soundbar / AV receiver is a bit of a shock. The Samsungs all currently send stereo 2.0 output onwards forcing you select lossy bitstream output options on the consoles in order to set 5.1 or 7.1 output to your speakers. I believe LG and Sony had the same issue but have resolved it. Otherwise great review
I have the Samsung Q80T, but I’m here to see if it’s worth upgrading and noticed your comment. The Q80T definitely supports eARC at 120Hz with Dolby surround sound over the 2.1 HDMI gaming port. I have the PS5 and have no issues with this
Personally, I go for color accuracy, and contrast. So, I will go a "VERY GOOD" OLED every time, which it sounds Samsung is agreeing, since they are developing a new hybrid based on OLED technology. That said, the only advantage of actual QLED, or any LCD is the ability to offer a brighter picture, which means nothing to me. I can always darken the room when it comes to watching a good flick in all its glory.

That's because dynamic tone mapping is defintiley disabled on that oled to pReSeRvE cReAtiVe iNteNt, if he enabled it that scene would come to life. But of course at the expense of "accuracy" which is what sophisticated videophiles like vincent strive for
The exposure of Vincent's camera is adjusted to the brightest TV in the room. Making the dimmer TV look darker than in real world viewing. 800nits is plenty if you're not watching in some completely lit up family room.
It's because his camera has been adjusted to the way brighter screen of the Samsung but if money is no object you could always opt for the new LG OLED EVO the G model which is about 30% brighter when viewing Dolby Vision HDR but costs about £3,299 at the moment
When the difference becomes neglible overall, perhaps we should also focus on which design we favor, or which remote and user interface we prefer.
Or perhaps you prefer a split unit, since it only has one cable going to the screen.
Im sorry, but after going LG OLED, I can't go back to Led ever. Nor Samsung, Oled just immerses you into every aspect. Playing Gears 5, walking in the dark areas just made me feel like i was in the game.
Led and neo qled are different you need to watch neo qled so you can compare them.
Then you go into the searing light of the sun, then ABL kicks in and its like you are in England on a grey overcast day.

Yes oled for gaming is simply amazing. Best picture you can buy. Samsung looks shit in game mode. Everything is grey and washed out.

I'd like to see a comparison of a 5 year old oled Vs a 5 year old full array local dimmer that have both see regular use.
My 5 year old lg just hit replaced right b4 the warrenty ended due to terrible burn in. I payd £2,600 for the 55 inch and was given £1,500 in vouchers to buy a new one. 5 years is not long for a 2 grand plus TV really. Gone are the days of 15 year lasting tvs lol.

If I was you I would’ve rather gotten a flagship LCD/LED (I think there was no QLED from Samsung back then) because it wouldn’t get burn ins after a few years and flagship LCDs/LEDs from Samsung are good too and have good colors. OLED is really only good for small screens under 7 inches (for example smartphones). A LCD/LED can last you 15-20+ years, an OLED will only last you 5-6 years max.
Most people keep their TVs for over 10 years until they upgrade or when the TVs die and don’t turn on anymore.

@@michaelyounes29 Mine is 10 years old (Samsung UE46D8000 LED Full HD Smart TV) most people probably only upgrade after 10-15 years because a TV (if you buy a real TV and not a 300-400$ toy, I’m not saying 300-400$ is little, it’s not much for a whole TV but if you’re buying a TV at least get one that won’t be an eyesore to look at, decent TVs start at 700-800$ and if you can’t afford to immediately pay for one then save money and get one) is an expensive investment and it’s a hassle to move the old one out of the way, put out the TV, set it up etc.
Only rich people get 1500-3000$ flagship OLED/Neo QLED TVs (such as shown in this video) and upgrade only 5-6 years later.

The image degradation on the nqled in game-mode kills it for me since that's my use case 90% of the time. Thank you for covering that part, I'll wait for LG's 42 inch oled early next year.

I have a CX and was considering switching because of various problem (VRR flicker and horizontal banding among other) but image degradation in game mode here ruins it, might as well go for a random qled tv. I guess I will wait for a next generation of TV but I think I will avoid oled in the future.

I thought about this a lot when I bought my OLED. My room is darker, and the movies I really like are also dark. For many families, I think OLED is a poor choice, but for me, it was the right one. My favorite movies are like Alita, IT, Matrix, John Wick, The Protoge, Joker, Pacific Rim, etc...
Maybe in time there will be a more perfect TV in the next few years, but choosing the best one for your type of movies and environment is important. Thanks for informative and unbiased comparisons like this!

@@johna9292 If your absolutely priorities are perfect black level, uniformity, and viewing angle then OLED is your choice, but for general use is QLED better, it gets much brighter, OLED is just too dark for a bright room, and you will be disappointed.

I cant decide between Samsung QN 95 A 75 Inch and LG G1 65 for the same price, what would you recommend?
A good review, but there's something about it you should consider.
OLED is superior out of the box. There's little question about that. But I'd love to see a comparison over the life of the product. This is something I've yet to see from any review. Durability. So when contemplating a new TV ask yourself some questions. What are your expectations on longevity? Are you looking to keep it 5 years? 10 years? What? It's a big purchase. Most people will not be swapping theirs out like a fresh pair of underwear. Ummm....so to speak.
And as importantly, what are your usage patterns? Do you simply watch dynamic programs, videos and films without a lot of static images? Or do you watch a lot of business, news, sports channels , weather channels etc. that are usually replete with static images? Where am I going with this?
Burn in.
Simply put OLEC burns in. I've a 65' LG OLED TV that's about 6 years old now, and I can clearly see the burn-in of static images from some of the channels I mentioned that I watch a great deal (Business Chnl, sports, etc.). If you plan to swap out TV's after 2 to 4 years then I don't see a problem. OLED wins.
But if you're looking to use it for a decade or more I'd advise staying away from OLED. Burn in, once it starts only gets worse. You won't like it after a time. Samsungs product may run a similar risk, but I suspect its probabilities are lower than OLED over that decades worth of time and use.

Despite Samsung's continued eArc issues I bought the QN95 partly because I am not sure the OLED will look as good in 5-10 years time, but also because in a bright room there's not really any choice. To me OLED is much worse in a bright room than QLED in a dark one, because while QLED has FALD to largely compensate, and get pretty damn close to OLED int he dark, OLED is just completely stuffed in a bright room and therefore a bigger compromise
The newer oleds are substantially better about burn in than the ones from 6 years ago.
@@DanielBlaney Meh, there's still a risk and they'll eventually burn in. Even if they employ tricks against burn-in, the image also degrades because burn-in is just a phenomenon of uneven degradation. OLED displays are sorta disposable, so you have to keep that in mind when purchasing.
@@leonro My 2007 panasonic plasma is still going strong and OLED last longer. Durability concerns are completely unwarranted.
@@thomasfischer9259 That's just a personal anecdote, one plasma TV that looks good to you. I'm certain that you babied your TV, or were at the very least conscious of the burn-in issues. You can't expect everyone using the TV to take good care of it, and it will still degrade even if you make sure there's no static images. A great screen that's degraded by 20% in maybe 5 years will still look quite good. If you want an anecdote, my Samsung S5 bought a few months after launch had really bad burn-in after 3 years, maybe it appeared after around 2. I know a factor would be that it got really heated with light use, but that's still an anecdote. What isn't an anecdote is that OLED is made of organic material, which degrades with use and over time. Image quality will worsen with each use by incremental amounts even if no image gets burned in.

I owned a 65" plasma for 10 years that I used as a HTPC. It only had very minor burn-in towards the end of its life that I could only see on e.g. a solid white screen when standing close to the TV. OLED was a no-brainer to replace it.
My Plasma is 9 years old with 50k hours as a HTPC and still looks new
@@drewcwsj You've probably lost alot of peak brightness though, plasma displays half life for brightness is gernerally around 60k hours.
My 2012 Samsung 65" plasma looked like new in 2021 no burn ins. But the power board went out and it will take a bit to find a repair shop for it so I went OLED C1 as a fill in. Arrives in 2 days.
My Panasonic 600hz plasma still running with better image than any led. Sadly only 1080p.

You would have had to deal with the burn-in risk with OLED and low brightness which is painful when the sun shines.
Did you buy the tv for a living room,? I think you made the right choice. I bought the Sony A80j for my dark bedroom and the picture is so dim and dark it’s not enjoyable to watch, I have to tweak vivid mode, the only mode I enjoy watch anything on. Stick with the qn90a I wish I had bought that instead.

I watched this on an LG OLED, and I could really see the differences. I think it helps to have a high-quality television in order to get the full impact of these tests.

Glad I went with the C1. I was really thinking about going with the QN95A for longevity reasons, but that blooming is still pretty bad. Once MicroLED is mainstream I'll be taking a look at that.
The blooming is never that bad in real life, he even points this out in the video - it's the camera ISO causing it to be much more pronounced. In fact, it's unnoticeable a vast majority of the time.

Just received my QN85A and I don't know why it got all that hate?! The blacks are so deep and the local dimming is beautiful. Yes without local dimming it's ugly but why would I turn it off!

82” QLED from 2019, should have gone for the 77” OLED.
Especially for 2019 models the gap was much higher, but try not to sweat it too much, if you didn't know anything about oled you would think yours was super dope. I always try to get the newest tech but not beat myself up over something else slightly superior and just really enjoy the great tech I have. For example I bought the i9 11900k for my new computer build before the reviews came out and was kind of beating myself up for not waiting for AMD's product to come back in stock. But then I realized I still had a better setup than 99% of the people on the planet so what am I really complaining about.
Don't sweat it, man. OLED is clearly the superior image quality when put side to side to (NEO) QLED, but if you don't put them side to side and don't 'look for trouble' on your QLED you'll be fine. I mean, I appreciate this channel testing a variety of video tests. But keep in mind that not all of them (like testing with a small moving white box onto a black screen) would ever occur in a 'real-life situation'.
I like OLED, and I like LG as a company. I don't like Samsung. But I'll probably resort to QLED anyway as burn in is going to be a problem for my usage. Even though I know the lesser image quality will be a trade off.
Just enjoy the picture quality you have now and stick with it until the next technology is affordable.

Oled is clear the winner, you have however to find a way to avoid static content on it and that is very hard as many games have static menus.
I have had a B7 oled for a few years now. I game a lot. I have gotten used to switching to the menu every 30 minutes to an hour while gaming. I don't watch any TV with static images either. You really have to try to get burn in on the TV from my experience. The same was true with Plasma. I was worried when I got it but snagged a new one for such a cheap price and I can never go back.

The software on reducing burn-in has become so good that it isn’t an issue at all anymore. Nowadays they even advertise it being the better game tv. You just don’t want to pull the plug after turning the tv off with the remote, because then you interrupt this pixel refresh program and that greatly increases the chance of getting burn-in
@@tigerlife7530 Hey, I think you're mis-understanding OLED burn-in. It's not about single session duration, instead it's the cumulative effect over time of bright static content in the same screen position that causes burn-in. You're wasting your time if you think occasionally switching to a menu during a single viewing session is going to help. It'll make no difference whatsoever, other than to interrupt the enjoyment of your game.
Just bought the Neo Qled 8590c and its outstanding. Unless you have TV's sitting next to each other it does not matter, once a decent set is in your house its all good.
If it’s so bright in your room that you can’t see the TV, that’s your hint that you should be outside doing something.
When it’s dark and miserable out, take comfort in your OLED.

Of course, black and contrast are better on OLED, but ... on a bright day, this difference is small. OLED has a screen like a mirror, everything is reflected. There is also a risk of burnout. Also, the HDR effect is much weaker on OLED. If they improved it a bit, OLED would be perfect. Unfortunately, it is not perfect.

The will be QN90A VA panel is superior. But It would be interesting for the people who can't get the VA panel version. So and IPS QN90 IPS vs QNED 90 would make more sense. But an other tv with VA panel (like QN90T) would still probably be a better buy.

@Doug Chism All type of lcd displays have to a degree of DSE. Contrast is king in image quality. The QN90A VA has a wide viewing layer, that increases the viewing angle but decrease the contrast. Overall the contrast is still a lot better than an IPS panel could ever deliver. I don't care what you buy. If you want an LG, buy the LG.

The big issue with any local dimming technology is as soon as it is utilized good luck maintaining any level of color accuracy. This is why the OLED displays are still king. No off angle contrast/color shift is a huge plus as well.

I wonder how come other reviewers never mention that the FALD system gets gimped when playing games on these miniled TVs, looking at the DMC footage at 9:09 The samsung looked so washed out, not much better than an edge lit tv, but looks much better when switched out of game mode. while the OLED tv maintains the same image quality and contrast no matter the input. For gaming its an easy choice to go oled tbh, oled also has instant pixel response times which is another benefit no smearing or ghosting.
Game picture is generally too precise and difficult to benefit from fald. I've had in the Panasonic dx900 and Sony zd9 with several hundreds dimming zones and in most of the cases I hated the dimming gimmick with games, so that I used to completely turn off local dimming for games. Luckily, from that time Sony and Panasonic started making Oleds that are the only true tvs after crt and plasma.

Washed out is exactly right in my experience.
Just feed the tv a 120hz signal and you don't need to use the game mode to get the low input lag. Without game mode you will lose free sync buy the minimal refresh rate is 48hz. So it's to high anyway. But you gain the normal FALD system which is worth it.

I think we are still a few years off before we get the perfect tv. Atm you have to lose a feature to gain a feature. I'm still going with the qled for the time being as I use it in a bright room as well as dark. I also use the tv to game on for upto 7 hours most days and I really don't like the idea of screen burn, even if it is a low risk, its still a risk.

I have the lg c1 and what really bothers me is the low brightness, and the automatic brightness limiter ABL, it's really bad to the extent in the same show that you're watching when it's in low brightness scenes the brightness is good, but when there are scenes with bright images it dims down it is really annoying, then i sold my LG c1 and bought samsung qn90a and the brightness is so much better color and the details are really popping you won't get that with OLED even the brightest OLED like sony a90j, but the problem with QN90A blacks is not as good as LG C1 but you won't notice this issue unless you are in a dark room with no lights, and 90% of the time you won't notice blooming, so for me QN90A is the better tv.
I wouldn't be surprised if LG has custom algorithms to detect test patterns and demo content that scales back ABL. My C1 was as bright as my 12 year old TN monitor, great for cinema in the dark but just embarrassing performance at all other times. Refunded that trash and got an X90j, then refunded that junk(terrible panel). Maybe next year I'll actually keep a TV I buy for gaming.
You must be blind. In HDR the Samsung with its wrongfully put tonemapping overbrightens everything, so the highlights won't pop, but have way more contrast on the C1!
@@chinogambino9375 LG is supposedly adding a heat sink next year. So hopefully that’ll help some. Hisense’s dual cell and TCL’s OD Zero are something to keep an eye on for this year. So hopefully next year, when you’re ready to buy, your options will be better

Not really concern as TV postion means it never has any direct sunlight on it and room is generally not too bright (or natural light levels can be easily reduced with opaque window blinds).

My TV is on more than 12 hours a day and there are often fixed pixels areas.
I'm tempted by the OLED C1 but I'm not convinced it would survive my use case for long.
My three LG OLED TV's are on 8+ hours per day as the only PC monitors of their respective PC's, most of the time displaying the Windows desktop or the Chrome browser. No burn-in after 2-3 years of use each. That's not saying it can't happen to you or anyone, just relaying my personal experience with three of these sets.
Even if it survives, the biggest downside is you thinking all the time that it won't survive.
Is it for a living room? Will more than one person be using the tv if that’s the case get the qled. If for a dark bedroom or man cave go oled. I bought the Sony oled for my bedroom mostly for movies and tv shows and it’s still too dim and dark if I could do it over again I probably would get the Samsung qn90a.

That Gravity clip looked surprisingly good on the QLED.
I just bought the LG OLED65B16LA as it was on offer from RS for £1,131.10 and as I can't personally see any difference in picture quality to the C1 that price was perfect for me, the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A was selling for £1,599 with a £300 cash back so £1,299 so still £167.90 less than the Samsung, and I still think the OLED's picture quality is superior to NEO QLED's even if they can go much brighter for me it's the perfect contrast and the total black where OLED wins plus I love Dolby Vision not available on Samsung TV's. So I see a lot of comments about OLED longevity. I must have been fortunate to have my 65" C8 built on a Wednesday because I have over 10000 hours on it, averages to about watching it 3hrs a day for 9 years. Looks and works as the day I purchased it. I watch a lot of Rakuten/Vickie with mostly subtitles and no burn in. We love the color, contrast and black levels that pop. We just purchased a Sony 91j (85") for the theater room and although calibrated it brings color and contrast close to the OLED it just does not give us that 3 dimensional feel and look as an OLED so we are exchanging it for a LG 77" C1. For us the brightness is more than adequate in the daytime and phenomenal at night. Good luck on your choices. I feel you cannot go wrong with the higher end TVs being built today.
9 years how? The C8 was released in 2018?
We have the LG on our kitchen wall and the Qled in the living area. We have a very bright room with a large window so the sun shines in. We find the Qled to be a little better in the bright environment. The LG is also great but suits the slightly darker kitchen. My only problem with LG is quality control. Our LG had to be changed TWICE, firstly due to a high number of dead pixels and secondly, dark patches on the panel. We've never had an issue with quality from Samsung, but LG do not take quality control seriously enough. The trouble and stress getting them to change a TV twice was not a pleasant experience and we're not sure if would buy an LG again.

Just want to point out a clear flaw in LG’s MCFI algorithm on the LG CX…which I’m also curious, if this affects the 2021 models as well?…..figured I’d point them out, since you pointed out some clear flaws in this video, which I have experienced myself as well. I’m also curious how many other CX owners experience this issue. I’ve seen it all over the forums, so I know it’s not just me.
This issue is a near black flicker, which becomes very, very apparent in HDR/DV content, and is immersion breaking, leaving MCFI unusable to me. Even at the lowest values, it’s very noticeable. It’s almost as if the interpolated frames have a different gamma or something.
All I can say is this drives me crazy, and I thought a fix would of come via a FW update by now. I knew I should of returned this set, once I discovered how broken DV really was. Still beating myself up over this.
The just scan bug not going off will bug me very much on the Neo tv.
Still QLED technology trying very hard to compete with OLED technology, but OLED still a legend.
Decided upgrade my Q60R to a QN90A and I couldn't be happier with the picture quality. I am having an issue with my Series X and PS5 on the HDR calibration screen. You mentioned in one of your videos that even though the new Samsung QLED support HGIG, it still tone maps which makes it hard to use the calibration. How many click from darkest should I have my Neo QLED set at?
I just picked one up to. Are you having trouble with Game Motion Plus? Judder reduction seems to do nothing at all. I want smooth gaming!

I don't know if it's the dispersion layer for viewing angles that Samsung uses or if it's just an artifact of backlight technologies, but the OLED always looks so much sharper than any samsung TV. It's like samsung has less ppi even though I know it doesn't.

Here's a question, why is tone mapping allegedly more difficult with more zones, yet OLED has pixel level tone mapping. Surely that would be the most challenging of all?
No. One has absolute control over it's picture. The other has limited control while trying to look like it has absolute control. It's akin to the difference between being in the cockpit of a vehicle vs controlling it remotely with partial controls
Still got my LG C9 and I refuse to get anything other than Oled in the future (unless something better comes along). Nothing really compairs at this particular moment. Maybe we will get something better in the future but for now, Oled is and has been king since it was first introduced.
Trust me, I’ve had mine since March 2020, still running strong
MicroLED should be a good replacement in when the price comes down in several years.

An obvious flaw for me personally, when discussing OLED technology... The director didn't have OLED in mind while making the film nor when it was projected in the cinema... My opinion only; OLED is beyond a natural 'film' image. Coupled with the burn-in problem, (I watch movies and play lots of games... Helped me choose LED...
Just over a year ago... I could have purchased a 55 inch 4k OLED, but instead, I bought a 75 inch 4k LED!
Sure side-by-side OLED would seem superior to the eye... But a 75 inch tv on the wall is a sight to behold!!!
Most of the Hollywood colourists use Panasonic professional OLED screens to edit all the movies they make on them and the directors view them on the same screens too

I say that was a fair comparison! I pretty much saw what you saw, and you were on point. I'll say the LG has a better picture for darker content and the QLED is better in brighter content! Hasn't nothing changed, each still has the same problems! 😅
That's why MicroLED is a thing, it solves both problems :-P and yeah the price is high but that was always like this when some new tech came out. Looking forward in 10 years when MicroLED TV's will drop down the prices like Oled's did lol.
