    I want to remain open to the fact that future past has not been released yet. I know that they are releasing songs from the new album but before we start bashing and adding opinions, give the album a chance to be released and let it grow on us. These guys work hard to deliver to the fans new material. Give them your support instead of dissecting each song. Once the album is released and has been out then state your opinion. Please give the guys and the album a chance to be played. I think they deserve that much. Thanks for letting me vent my opinion.

      You have a point but we can have an opinion on a song . I love the band no matter what…even when I cannot stand a few songs they have done in the past out of the FULL catalogue . And when I say full is because I love EVERY album they made . Each one of the 14 albums and know them by heart …still a few songs in Paper Gods were unbearable Last Nite in the City and Sunset Garage …Bedroom Toys come to mind …LOL . But the good and brilliancy of DD outdoes all that . I still do not like this song Tonight United . Its true with the full album in context may change my opinion a bit but I doubt I will like this song . Not the style that fits DD in my opinion. Sounds almost too infantile and way too commercial.

    With a song with Moroder I have envision something like American Science , Northern Lights perhaps , that suave , more sophisticated vibe …think “I Fell Love “…that is soo fierce and have no guitars but this is not I feel Love , not even close .
    I would even say if added guitars a la Warren on All Along The Water with a counter melody this could be a totally different song . Why this short basic songs is puzzling for a band that can write things like The Chauffer , The Man WStole a Leopard or New Religion.

    Great review Brian! I really like the new format (outside, “What’s on my mind”). Cool that you’re experimenting with new ideas. Keep it up! Oh… the good ole “SWOT” analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)… I know it well 😜 And I’m with you on the introvert thing.
    So… Tonight United. I think it’s my 4th favorite too of the released songs so far. I like it but I like the other 3 better. I do wish that they had leveraged at least some minimal guitar to give it some teeth and texture but oh well. I do think Duran has high expectations for this one. They’ve already built it into their live set list. Wondering if this is “the banger” we’ve all heard about. It’s the theme song for that Global Live event. Moroder produced and clearly Le Bon thinks highly of the chorus. So I hope it’s successful… we’ll see. I’ve noticed that on most of Duran’s post 2000 albums they always have that one “don’t take it too seriously” songs (Bedroom Toys, Tempted, Safe, Danceophobia)… let’s just have fun. I’m wondering if that’s what this song is. Anyway, great review!

These guys have been delivering new ideas and trying new stuff for 40 years, there's bound to be some that hit and miss. I could've easily skipped pop trash, thankyou and Medazzaland. • @loveroute66
    @loveroute66 3 роки тому +1

    Part 2: The introvert thing. I'm a HUGE one but I tell people that sometimes and they scoff. "You?? No way!" They seem to think I'm some kind of social butterfly. I suppose I can be and I always have fun when I'm with a group of friends or help host a party. But then it takes me up to a week to recover! I don't want to go out, see anyone, talk to anyone...I just want to hunker down at home with music and books and whatever.
    I've learned to compensate for my shyness over the years and probably the best mantra (and one you seem to have figured out) is "Fake it till you make it." Force yourself to do what you need to do and most importantly, just BE YOURSELF. I'm to that age where I don't care much about what people think of me and just like Popeye, "I yam what I yam." It's quite liberating!
    Probably more information than you wanted or needed but as the saying goes, introverts unite! Separately and in your own homes. :)

    • @RedMugMusic
      @RedMugMusic  3 роки тому +1

      I find introversion and shyness to be two different things. I’m not shy at all and maybe that’s why I’m able to have this channel. Oh but one of the most Defining ways to separate introverts from extroverts is how they re-charge their batteries. Extroverts charge the batteries by being around other people. Introverts recharge the batteries by removing themselves from other people. That’s probably why your recovery is there an alone. Thank you for the comment. I really appreciate it

    • @loveroute66
      @loveroute66 3 роки тому

      @@RedMugMusic Yes, that's true. There is a difference between shyness and introversion. Unfortunately, I am both. I've seen that analogy before and I always thought it described it perfectly!

    Duran Duran really suffer from not having a 'lead' instrument. Something to give counter-melodies and some push & pull.
    I LOVED 'Invisible', I always want them to succeed, but I've not enjoyed the few sneak-peak tracks.

  • @loveroute66
    @loveroute66 3 роки тому +1

    I've got a lot to say so I'll make this a two-part comment.
    First, the song. I like it a lot! Not as much as "Anniversary," but I think this is a fun one. I think they released it because on Saturday, they played as part of the Global Citizen Live 24-hour broadcast and this song was the theme song for the whole shindig! So that's pretty cool. (Check out the video of their performance of "Planet Earth." They're having a blast and Nick's suit is EXTRA!)
    I feel a lot of the Moroder influence in this one. It is a little reminiscent of Blondie's "Call Me" with the heavy keyboards. (And yeah, JT's bass is KILLER!) Remember, the "na na na na" thing worked pretty well for them with "The Reflex"! Personally, I like what it says about how much they missed performing live and that connection with the audience. We're coming off of one crummy year in countless ways and it makes me feel like they're as happy to get back out there and perform for us as we are to see them and hear them again.
    As for the whole album, I'll use their words here: "You've got to believe it'll be all right in the end." Have faith in our guys. It's gonna be great! Comment Part 2 coming up.

    Trust you to dislike the best one yet. There's no way the intro is any less wow than the 1st single. Killer verse and killer chorus-anthemic and brilliant. This was my 1st fav immediately and has 'single' written all over it. You don't know why THIS is a single? In a career that saw the monotonous inane 'Union Of The Snake', unremarkable 'The Reflex', icky happy 'Sunrise' & over-showy inflexible 'Pressure Off' as a single!! Please, this is the best single release yet? Anyway if there's gonna be "good stuff" on this album, 'Tonight United' is one of them. Maybe you think you SHOULD dislike it! Hello, it's chorus is WAY more rollicking and on-fire than 'Invisible'. The fact that Duran are on their 4th single in a decade where they don't release more than 2 now! and the album's not even out! 'Tonight United'-another great immediate song in the vein of 'Cinderella Ride'& 'What Are The Chances' just gone.

    I love this song, it has great energy. Although, it could have been on Paper Gods. I give it a 7.5/10. I have a Bachelor's in Music, and I tend to agree with an earlier comment, I don't want to dissect the songs without hearing the full album. But it is your Channel, I tend to think about what the song is about or how it makes me feel. Duran Duran has always been about trying new things and pushing the envelope, you don't last 40 years and put out 15 albums if you don't. Yes all songs are not going to appeal to all fans, it just depends on what you like in a song. For example, for The Reflex, I love the intro, when I hear Ta La La La, the biggest smile is plastered on my face.

    I’m pretty much on the same page as you with this song. Game show didn’t originally come to mind when I heard this song, but now that you’ve mentioned it, yes. I have mixed feelings about this song. It is my least favorite of the four released songs. However, I think it would be great live. Now, I’ve never been able to see them live and probably never will. So this song doesn’t really do anything for me. I don’t think it’s bad enough that I would skip it on the album. But, I’m not excited when it comes up on my playlist either. It’s the beginning of the song that I don’t like. For me, John & Roger pull this song. This is also the first time I’ve had doubts about this album. I think this song was released for a specific reason and that was the Global Citizen thing; otherwise, I don’t think this song would have been released. This makes four singles from one album. They haven’t done that in awhile if ever. My memory sucks so forgive me.

But four releases? WTF? 2004-Sunrise single released then Astronaut album dropped then What Happens Tomorrow single released. 2007-Falling Down single released then RCM album come out, bombed, no more singles. 2010-All you need is now single released , AYNIN album drops, Girl Panic single released. That’s it.... why four singles before the Future Past album ??? This is driving me insane!!! Would someone please explain , the reason for this strange behavior??
    Tonight United, no guitar, no good- Nick Rhodes is ruining it for me, AndyT would have put him in his place and balanced out his crap. This is getting ridiculous

    Not worried abt the album,I think I will love majority of the songs. But TU is a big no. It is contrived and embarrassing. I respect DD more when they write a song that is not to my taste (Drowning Man, Hothead) but not contrived because at least I can put it down to just a sub-par song by DD's standards or a creative direction that is not my thing. TU is not merely sub-par songwriting or art that's not to my taste, it's a sell-out, lacks any genuine creativity and therefore is inauthentic. I feel similarly about that 🧀Dancephobia, it too was contrived (i read they did like 20 revisions or something of that nonsense to get it "right") but ironically that had marginally more interesting lyrics and melody than this tripe.

      Spot on what you say about T U . Danceophobia was so superior while still a bit annoying there was an interesting weirdness about the beat not being even and the fat synths . This sonically is a let down . Terrible . So uninteresting ,, 3 chords in the whole song will make a song boring. Where are the 6-7 minute haunting storytellers that Duran had even produced on the glossy Paper Gods , Universe Alone or Leopard or Tel Aviv or Seven Stranger ? I mean those seem like so superior to this song . Fun can be interesting , think the genius of All She Wants Is . They don’t literally copy house , but elements of it merge with Duran music , and that is a success in my opinion being forward and progressive and fun …but this is worst than BTS

    New sub here.
    It's definitely not a fave of mine. I want to say I heard an interview in the past week with Simon mentioning that it's the type of song that will stick with you (like an earworm). I get it, with the beat & repeated chorus/song name.
    I don't know if it was written for *Global Citizen* or not but I feel the beginning is low energy as well. I think there's going to be better songs & a mix, like most of their albums, there's a song or 2 that isn't as strong. It is catchy but low energy compared to the norm.
    As for *your thoughts* part (I forget what you called it), it's great to talk about another subject, more personal to you. Maybe it'll lead into a 2nd type of video for you in the future, certain days have that as a video & whatever others days do music.
    I too am an introvert & it can be rough.
    This past year and a half has been ok for me, my thoughts, just keep your distance from me, for more than just the pandemic. I still have interaction but more to my liking than what others like.

      Makes TOTAL sense that this song was written for Global Citizen...and that's a big reason why it sucks. I'm not a globalist. At all. At least to me, this is a propaganda song.There are some thinly-veiled political lyrics in this song. I don't like political Duran Duran. I was more of a fan when I was not aware of (or care about!) their politics. Also disappointing that THIS is the Giorgio Moroder collaboration...I had much higher expectations.

    All most every song released so far has required more than one listen. To me this is the weakest of the 5 I've heard. Maybe I'll change my mind after a few more listens because I did not like Invisible at first and now it's one of my favorite songs. I do not think this song is a single release. I think the two singles are Invisible and More Joy. This is just a song that was finished mastering IMO. I'm not listening to any more until the album comes out. They released songs like this on the last two albums.

    There is zero 🎸 on

    Just like paper gods
    I think this album is gonna be very underwhelming. Driving guitars were instrumental in early duran

    I think they've forgotten who they're core fans are and that annoys me as fan since 81.

      @andy g I didn't think of them that way as I love Simon's voice & John's bass & just listened for that in each of their songs. It is definitely missing a guitar 🎸 style, even if it isn't Andy's. Andy's did give them a distinct sound that also being a fan from the beginning but it's a shame they can't find someone with their own style to step in & liven up their music & become a permanent part of the band.

    To me this is the worst song so far . Lazy for DD , cheap sounding and flat flat melodically .
    Sounds like Last Nite in the City part 2 which to me is still prob the worst DD song ever written. It does not work for them to try to sound like bubblegum pop of today. They are an iconic band , why the obsession to be in the charts or the radio? Is really worrisome that such an opportunity like this would be wasted in such a rubbish song .
    Lyrically I cannot even understand what this is. What happens to the depth of this band ?
    I know some compare this with More Joy. Well they have NOTHING to do with each other . More Joy to me has the DD dna all over that ear worm sytnth groove . Melodically is great for that kind of song. This one is a disaster in every possible way. I am even so underwhelmed by Nicks synths here as well. Generic sounds and not strong at all. The whole thing is a mesh of sounds that don’t play well together. The only thing you can save is John Taylor bass break which last 5 seconds . Melodically is a child chant that is not even sweet .
    What a miss . And no guitars now officially. This is no good .
    And people have bitched and dissed Medazzaland , Pop Trash , Liberty , even RCM …anything on those albums is so superior than this song. Wow . I hope is one off like Last Nite in Paper Gods .

      @@RedMugMusic remember how Reach Up For The Sunrise was changed to a rockier more guitar driven mix after the fact? i hope they do something of the sort with this one . The problem is that it seems for some BIZARRE reason is been getting good reception on the bubblegum stratosphere where things live for 15 seconds max …so they think is getting mixed reception with fans but great press.. How paradoxical that when DD made brilliant masterpieces like Chauffer , Seven Stranger , the critics back then , unfairly, ripped them apart , now the lazy ADD press is loving this apparently. I am happy for them but wont deter them from keep going there . All this “dance” DD experiments that are too literal in my opinion to the style they mimic , do not work for them. I think you said once about Simons rapping and how that just was weird and did not work , well this does not work the same way . Like Bedroom Toys did not work or Last Nite .

    It’s really flat dull and devoid of anything interesting.
    Sounds like it’s a unreleased track off Red Carpet Massacre to me.
    Desperately needs guitar running through its spine to give it some oomph and purpose it’s just so bland.

    I think if we are really being honest..... This is the laziest song I've probably ever heard from D&D and really is amazing that it would make the cut for an album. There are thousands of television commercial themes and music that have more depth than this! I think they literally could have written and recorded this is 2-3 hours. This does not bode well for the album and I think everyone realizes this by now. Six months from now no one will be listening to these songs. I just listened to the Notorious album last night, every song on that album is 10 times better than any of the 4 songs released from FP so far. They phoned in this album. Why was Coxen even there??????

    Afternoon Brian.
    Tonight united....mmmm I, m not a fan I don't like it,itfeels contrived being written for festivals in trying to get the audience involved ...it pretty weak all round reminds me of planet roaring.
    Celabration on the other hand is a good example of an all together festival feeling
    How and why this was released as a single ! I,m just not getting it.
    The lyrics in isolation are good they deffinantly have a positive energy but the music is just so poor ,nick was not at his best tho John had a little wiggle room to have fun .
    It's the weakest track so far and am hoping the rest of the album tracks are not so poorly executed .
    On a positive every album has a weak rushed not thought through track
    ( probably tired and moody needing to relax,rest etc away from the studio)
    Kinda expected it so not feeling to down.
    Sorry to those who like it I don't wish to offend.. what a boring world if we all were to think the same.

    I found this song to be pretty forgettable. Once again, as with every song released from Future Past, it stays pretty much in the same key and as a result, seems flat and sort of monotone. The energy is good, and I like the rhythm and bass, but they're wasted in a fairly pedestrian piece of songwriting. I think this album is on a trajectory to be very average, unless they're holding back all of the really good for the release.

    Not worse than Last night in the city. It's a disco song but I expected more from the collaboration with Moroder. The intro sound is disturbing and banal...really can not beleive it is from our genious Nick Rhodes. The rest of the track is fine even if a bit too commercial. The little bass bridge from John is amazing and it is a real pity it was not replicated or developped more in the song. I consider this song a filler. Better than other fillers in previous albums. Hope someone will remix it erasing the intro sound. Let's wait the full album to have a right opinion.

    I’ve been a Duran fan since the first album. THEY ARE NO LONGER A PROPER BAND. I hate making that statement but the direction they are going making music that sounds like a really bland euro dance track is SO disappointing.
    They really have lost their identity to me. I embrace them changing their music and sound. But doing so with music that sounds like it’s made purely with GarageBand is just not right. Everything is just programmed with them now with some over dubs here and there with JTs bass playing. They really need a strong guitarist back in the band. I especially miss Warren. It doesn’t bode well for the rest of the album. I hope I’m wrong…
