Good evening. Could you tell me please which make of rear sprocket did you use? I am finding it diffecult to find one here in the UK. I would love to lower the top end buzz of the engine and this seems to have done the trick. Regards Guy
Yeah, can you clarify please? 15F and 42R would be down two teeth in the front and three teeth in the rear. According to your link the stock sizes are 17F/45R?
I bought s1000xr -2017 few weeks ago. Super bike but I dont like the gearing. I have changed rear sprocket from original 45 to 42 teeth. Little bit slower acceleration but higher top speed and primarelly lowe rpm in 6th gear on motorway. Less nervous and more "mature" behavior.
Hi CR great idea thanks ... did it myself. Noticed a little less pick up low gears but smoother overall. Wondering is u went back or kept the 42 t going?
This is an interesting mod for sure as I do lots of touring and also felt the higher RPMs on highways. I really don't want to lose that feeling of "super acceleration" but then again, the trade off is probably worth it. Thanks for sharing!
I was a little concerned that the bike was going to feel a little slow going through the gears, but I'm happy to report that it still feels fast just with less shifting in between.
Cuban Rider, how did the 42 tooth affect top end max? Higher too speed or less? Thanks in advance. I went from a s1000r and a 1200gs to 1 bike, s1000xr.
Yes, higher top speed, which I haven't had a chance to test yet, but it does over 150 mph in 5th gear. Both the R and GS are great bikes, but the XR mostly gets what's good of both bikes.
Seems to be a good mod CR. I'm sure it still has plenty of a acceleration, but do you feel like you miss the "hit" ? Does it feel slower? Probably negligible if the power wasn't useable anyway. Great vids man...thanks! (I am very close to trading my GS for an XR).
Thanks man, the GS is great but the XR is a lot more playful. The bike's character changed for sure, it feels a little more "grown-up" the way it delivers the power. I never cared for the shorter gearing stock, but I could see how people prefer the feeling of faster acceleration.
Hey CR, great stuff. It looks like the s1000xrforum.com forum is not taking any new members. There are lots of USA guys on the s1000xr.uk forum, you should join.
hey man just got an xr last saturday and im not getting much mileage out of a tank..excluding the reserve..how much mileage do you get when riding smooth conservative ? If ever you do ride slow lool
Hi Cuban, I am considering buying an XR, and which upgrades do you think I should consider from the start? Adjustable grips, hand guards, taller gearing, Garmin satnav, bigger front screen, upgraded tires (which) etc. Any advice is very welcomed :-) Thanks Søren
No, on the contrary, the bike doesn't wheelie as much anymore, yet it's easy to bring it up if desired. The Dynamic Pro mode doesn't intervene for wheelies so that's the one I use the most.
Maybe i missed it, but what gearing are you using back and front. Also, i found there is a slight head shake sort of weave at about 200km per hour, thank you
Nice, I use that site a bunch too, thanks for the quick reply! Is your first gear tall? I would maybe do what you've done but my Yamaha FZ1 already does 85mph in 1st, I really don't want 1st any taller...
1st is just over 80 mph if I wind it up all the way to 12k. It doesn't feel too tall, but getting off the line can be a little tricky with a passenger.
Great news Cuban Rider! I've been planning this for my XR when I get it, ever since test rides - I LOVE stretching an awesome motor out through each gear!
good evening. I am planning to change gearing on my XR as well , I have ordered power commander + Akra headers + k&N intake filter + NGK laser iridium plugs .. but not been able to decide on gearings and then will dyno the bike .. I mostly run my bike aggressively as competing with GSXR's, Ducati, R1m around the curves..and i only lose to them on a straight stretch and they cross me when m on 230kph but again i catch em at the next curve. I will soon be doing a track day in 2 months. So can you recommend me gearing for the track or should I go with the same gearing as urs: 15t front and 42t rear with 520 chain . regards
The front is actually a 17, but yes, 17/42 works great for me. I like it better for tight mountain roads, for the track and specially on the highways. You lose a smidgen of acceleration but to me it's more enjoyable and I have less chances of hitting the rev-limiter when riding aggressively.
Hi, Is this change going to affect somehow the "life" of the bike? Also, how much a 520 chain will last compared with the original 525? Is it going to reach the end sooner? How's about the clutch, it requires more "usability" now and if with pillion and luggage is hard to ride it on lower speed? Thanks,
You definitely have to slip the clutch more at lower speeds, but I've gotten used to it and it's not a issue unless I'm starting on an uphill. As far as durability, I replaced the stock chain and sprockets at 18k and I'm now at 33k miles; the replacement still looks great so I'd say durability is the same. The engine itself keeps lower revs in mostly every situation, so that's always beneficial. Other than slipping the clutch a little more, everything else is great, better wheelies, better gearing for the tight stuff, better cruising on the highway, more lightweight chain and sprocket.
Hi again. Looking to some other comments I saw that you also put 15 on the first one? Or you only changed the back sprocket to 42 from 45? And with the pillion is a big difference, I mean, I will struggle a lot to use the bike with passanger and sidecases?
Hola CR, una pregunta, porque desidiste usar 42 Tooth rear sprocket en lugar de 43. Quiero hacer el mismo cambio pero no hay 42 tooth en steel, solamente si ago la misma conversión que tu hiciste. Muchas gracias!
Hi CR. Many nice videos, great job. I am considering similar or same rear sprocket 42 or 43 tooth. It would help me if you could measure your acceleration with GPS to 100kmh and 200km. If possible please let me know. thx
Good evening.

Guy I used the Superlite 520 kit found here: sprocketcenter.com/street-sprocket-applications/bmw/s1000-xr-2015-2016.html
Please clarify: how many teeth before and after? Which kit 520 or 525?
It's 15 teeth front, 42 rear, on a 520 chain and sprocket size.
Cuban Rider did you mean 17 front, 42 back? According to your install video you said that you only changed the back. Solo me estoy asegurando.
Yeah, can you clarify please? 15F and 42R would be down two teeth in the front and three teeth in the rear. According to your link the stock sizes are 17F/45R?
My god i love the XR. Amazing Videos, really enjoy and look forward to every one of them. Awesome.

I have an S1000XR. Could you please give me a link to this extra windscreen part on the top? Thank you.
It's the MRA Vario Touring screen. The one without the spoiler is just the regular MRA Touring screen
Can't hurt your fuel economy and the handlebar buzz at highway speeds. Still looks and sounds like there's plenty of snap!

Food for thought. Thanks for sharing. I would love to hear more on this mod after more usage.
I do plan to do a lot of riding, so more videos to come. ;) I'm looking forward to trying it at the 1/4 mile.
Hola CR, has cronometrado la aceleración con esta modificación? Saludos desde México.
Hugo, todavía acelera duro, lo que se demora un poco mas para llegar a las 12,000 revoluciones, pero eso es lo que quería lograr.
Hey CR, great stuff. It looks like the s1000xrforum.com forum is not taking any new members. There are lots of USA guys on the s1000xr.uk forum, you should join.
Cool, I just registered. :)
omg! thank you. no wonder i couldnt post or read attachments on the forum. so silly.
Saludos desde España! ¿Qué le has cambiado? ¿el piñón de ataque con un diente más?
No, el trasero le bajé 3 dientes. Saludos!

I'm the worst person to ask as I am always on that throttle, lol. I think I can get 150 or 160? Not sure man, wish I could be of more help.
thx anyways lol
What is the maximum speed on the new sprocket, on top gear? :)
160 mph, not indicated, but actual speed. I'm trying to coordinate a location for another top speed run.
Your microphone is working great. Nice sound, clean and neat. What sort of stuff did you use to record this video ? And thanks for the input btw. ;-)
Thanks, it's a Sony ECMCS3 mic connected to the GoPro using their mic adapter. Great mic for sure.
Great. Thanks for the answer. I own an S1000XR too. This bike is sick. ^^

Adjustable grips, hand guards, taller gearing, Garmin satnav, bigger front screen, upgraded tires (which) etc.

Awesome input! Thanks.
You're welcome.
The electronics would be working overtime to keep the wheel down isnt it, you still found it too wheelie happy? :)

Makes sense then..
I mean it's no S1000RR, but it does okay. ;)
But when you blow past superbikes in track days, the bike thinks it is better than S1000RR isnt it? ;)
Maybe i missed it, but what gearing are you using back and front. Also, i found there is a slight head shake sort of weave at about 200km per hour, thank you
Hello. Could you please tell us what RPM's does the bike keep in 200km/h? Thank you
Awesome, the perk of a sprocket instead of shaft drive. Do you know what your rpm's were at 60 mph before and now???
Not off the top of my head, but according to the Gearing Commander website, it goes from 4408 to 4114 rpm in 6th gear.
Nice, I use that site a bunch too, thanks for the quick reply! Is your first gear tall? I would maybe do what you've done but my Yamaha FZ1 already does 85mph in 1st, I really don't want 1st any taller...

Love it! Had my XR out yesterday. Something else i need to add to the list for mine.
Great news Cuban Rider! I've been planning this for my XR when I get it, ever since test rides - I LOVE stretching an awesome motor out through each gear!
Did you shorten the chain as well seems to be very long in first
Hello, the top speed, encrease?
It should, yes, but these bikes are pretty limited by aero/hp at around 160.
Good to know you "climbed back on" after your slide out!
I was thinking 1 tooth up in front 1 down in back what do you think?
on the money with your mods and results....love those long wheelies
Bro use app to recording in speeding on your phone what u have
Might have to look into this mod. You the man Cuban!
Great move, and the acceleration is still mind boggling.
so it didn't affect speedo accuracy
Correct, it shouldn't have.
The speedo is read off the front wheel. It has nothing at all to do with the rear wheel or the gearing.
Man, the more of your videos I watch the better I like this channel! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks man!
Hey CR
Was it impossible to find a 525 sprocket with 42 teeth?
The only one available at the time was aluminum and I wanted to buy steel which was only available in 520
In my lowered version even when hot on 1st I don't get wheel up much are you running with deactivated asc or tcs?
Dynamic Pro, let's me do wheelies with TC on.
tenias que recalibrar el tacometro?

Cuban Rider okay i got it , so will change it to 42t on rear then .. thanks a lot for your feedback .
Good work CR.
,did you have to change speedometer?
Denis, I didn't mess with the speedometer, I believe the bike gets its speed from the front wheel sensor.
Hi, Is this change going to affect somehow the "life" of the bike?

Yo le iba a poner un 43 pero no lo encontré, estoy bien contento con el 42, pero con el 43 debes notar una buena diferencia.
Gracias:-)

Does Top speed increase ?
It does, it now goes over 160 mph actual.
