    I have 20k on my Gen 1 and still love it! Absolutely no mechanical problems. I tried Gen 2 and didn't like the power mapping. Slow off the line. Had to get to 7000 rps and then it just flew. Likely an emissions and you could flash it out, but I don't want to spend the $ to upgrade. Great video! Really liked the detailed comparisons.

      Totally agree, I sold my Gen1 and got Gen 2 - I don’t like it for the reasons you have stated it feels like a snail, power delivery is like a two stroke…nothing then everything. I also hate the self cancelling indicators, and the seat isn’t as comfortable although it looks identical and the vibes through the seat below 4K revs is awful (although my girlfriend likes it!) I’d have my old one back in an instant.

      Yea BMW trashes the XR throttle response on the XR for some reason. After the Bren tune on my 18 it was a new bike. Will be the first thing I do after an exhaust since they killed the sound…

    Great video and explanations of the differences. Had a gen 1 which I've not long sold and the gen 2 is on order. The comfortable side won the change for me as my wife is a constant passenger.

    I don't agree that either generation does not change direction well. I've got a Gen 1 and ridden a Gen 2 and I personally think it's a bloody marvel how quickly you can tip it from one side to other.

    Like always, an excellent comparison exercise!
    I tend to agree with your opinion relating to most of the conclusions that you took concerning this comparison and I just would like to add or underline, that the second generation is an effort of evolvement of the model which is notorious by the big improvements that the bike suffered from gen 1 to gen 2. In summary the second iteration of the model gives place to a overall better bike. I didn’t heard you say it expressly, but that is what I think. I also would like to refer that the pack M on this bike includes a chain shaft that doesn’t need ordinary maintenance and in that field it comes near to the concept of drive shaft system that you (and a bunch of us, myself included) really appreciate for a matter of practicality.
    And last point, if the bike on second generation is quieter, fantastic. Because, first of all, the high engine sound, only makes my day on the racetrack not on public roads. On public roads I want to slide stealth through traffic, always trying to avoid extra attention from other users of the road. I am the guy in the fast bike, so I manage to control the situation with little communication effort because I know how to get their attention when I need them to see me without the need to be loud - maybe that’s because I started riding bikes on public roads when I was fourteen years old and now I’m quickly achieving 60 and never stopped riding almost everyday -, but don’t get me wrong, I love the sound of a four in line powerful bike engine. The thing is, that I care for the other road users well-being as I still believe they do the same about mine. And if there are some that aren’t complying to this principle, I don’t give them an hard time, because I understand that they don’t know better anyway and once more, my statement:- I m the guy in the fast bike. So, I’m fully aware of the risks I’m taking every day and that fact is not other’s fault.
    It’s my passion and my choice, so I take most of the responsibility for all the hazardous situations I get my self in, even if I’m completely out of any guilt, I am the one who chooses to ride a bike, so, if I feel too afraid or if I feel that I don’t have enough skills to return home safe and sound, I should rethink my priorities. And of course, I value my life and health as anyone else.
    Thanks once more ✌️✌️

      I still haven't figured out how you managed to cross out a text. No idea how to do that but an interesting one. I feel that the 2nd generation happens to be overall "softer" and more friendly. I appreciate that. As for the crosses-out part, I know I can control very little while when riding a car and looking all around, if a bike doesn't have a light shining in my mirror or I don't hear it, it's much more difficult. Hi-beam in a traffic jam on a bike can really save one's butt. If not, then lots of aux lights. I love the saying "loud pipes save lives". I just don't like them too loud when they're 3 or 4 cylinders ;)

    • @Fernando90054
      @Fernando90054 Рік тому

      @@VToldsMotoShow Dear friend, thank you for the kind response.
      The crossed text is a phenomenon exclusively created by UA-cam, so I can’t explain how it was originated 😂 it seemed like some type of censorship tool, but looking at what was written I can’t identify nothing that could be out of order in the text. So, I think “the machine” does it’s own mistakes, which is a fact, or an idea that I trend to simpatize with.
      Concerning the BMW S1000 XR, I m getting more and more familiarized with the bike as time passes bye what is normal and comparisons with other bikes of the same scope are inevitable. Of course, for me the comparison will be made with the SDGT. And after the first 1000kms, the heart is a little bit more unrestrained, the breaks and tyres are becoming top grippy and it is time to sediment experiences. The XR is a more well behaved machine by nature, I think. Everything is there, but you have to ask for it. On the SDGT happens the opposite, since the moment you start the engine she wants you to be the hooligan biker. The four cilindres in the BMW gives you a nervous character note when you start the bike, but it shows from the beginning that it is a generous and obedient machine and only turns into a mad cow at 8000 rpm’s and beyond that, till the end, so, you’ve got to ask for it. The SDGT is talking to you all the time: - where are we going ? To the race track?!…for the race track!!?? And the talk is about this, all the ride, and every time you take it out for a ride. Like a child, always asking the same questions, with a fixed idea on something they like or that they enjoy doing with you. It makes you feel like a father, or an older brother or even un uncle, that are responsible for their sake.
      The BMW is different. It is like an adult classy person that you take out on a date. You can take her to the race track, she loves going there, but if you don’t she will not mention it again during the ride. In fact she preferes the long fast rodes, and if you choose that plan she will give you tons of riding pleasure. The street mode of the KTM is the road mode in the MBW, the sport, or race mode in the SDGT, is the dynamic or dynamic pro mode on the BMW S1000XR…very different intensity of words and respective concepts. Although they are both sport touring bikes 👌

    Fajna porównanie, dzięki za ten film!! Sam zastanawiam się nad wyborem, gen1 jest obecnie bardziej przyjazna finansowo, gdzie druga generacja to dla mnie wydatek co prawda nadal możliwy, ale jednak ponad racjonalne wytłumaczenie. Gen2 po prostu wizualnie bardziej mi się podoba, choć i ta pierwsza do brzydkich nie należy. Ten dźwięk gen1 coś fajnego! Znowu dostęp bezkluczykowy to IMHO game changer, bo ciągle kiedy się gdzieś zatrzymam to zaczyna się później szukanie kluczyka po wszystkich kieszeniach ;) Słonko przygrzewa, obecne moto nie cieszy jak kiedyś, a w głowie rozkminy. Pozdrawiam!

    Interesting video as always! I am very interested in the differences between the 2 generations. I know the theoretical differences but I fear that if the riding pleasure is diminished with the second generation, due to emissions controls. As you mention the exhaust noise is not as good, this on its own as an influence on pleasure perception. Ideally a gen 2, with gen 1 engine and exhaust!

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  2 роки тому +1

      To me the 2nd generation was overall more enjoyable to ride. I wish it had the proper sound but you simply get and aftermarket exhaust and this issue is solved. I can't say that there's much of a difference in terms of power delivery while the 2nd gen is supposed to have those few horsepower more in there. Cheers!

    Have a 2018 XR and looking at a 23. The LED headlights are a huge + for me, the gauges are a - for me. I had to do a Bren tune on the 18. I expect to do the same on the 23. I dislike that BMW does the 80% gimp on the throttle. The 24 MXR might be worth waiting for. The price tag not so much…

    Great video, thank you, I have a 2016 Gen1 and love everything about it except the engine noise/vibe between 5k-6k RPM. I test drove a Gen2 recently and it is certainly much quieter (almost too quiet? 🤔) but does have low RPM lag as others mentioned and I don't like the seat. Still I think the pros outweigh the cons so looking forward to upgrading, now I just need to find one!

      In my personal opinion it may be worth paying $4k for a newer generation. I myself would pay that extra without hesitating in this particular case. But I enjoy the new suspension while you not necessarily will coming off of an S1000RR. So I suggest that you try both and if you like it harder, then it may not make sense for you to choose the 2nd and softer gen, but rather the 1st, more raw and harsh one - some really prefer the way it feels. I hope this feels. I like it comfy and that's why the 2nd gen would be better for me.

      While the full load cam provides the maximum valve lift, a reduced valve lift is available via the torque cam.
