Just ordered one on Friday Chopsey, thanks for such an informative view on this. I have pondered for a while now watching both TMF & Teapots Reviews amongst others. GT Sports Tourer: great explanation. I had a 2008 K1200GT. When BMW discontinued the K12/K13GT line, I guess you could figure people adopted the K1600GT as a progression. However with the XR in the world of Super Duke GT "GT Sports Tourer", it now makes much more sense in BMW's model line up, providing the XR as a GT Sports Tourer in flavor with the ADV ergos. Great comment, "GT Sports Tourer"!

When the Streetfighter V4 came out with essentially an unmodified Pani powerplant it did make me wonder if we may see a 185hp (or more) V4 Multi - which would open the floodgates for higher HP "Tall Sportbikes" which is what this, the Multi and to a lesser extent the KTM really are.
Just picked up my new triple black model and have to say it’s a weapon, you are correct you need to wind it up to get the best of it as fairly gutless down low, but once you have it singing it comes into its own. I’m very use to my in lines from racing on track so that’s not an issue, although I’ve come from a KTM 990sm and kinda do miss that low down grunt and hooliganism that comes with that 😁 Still loving the XR though, it’s blistering fast (jail time so) and great fun anywhere above 5.5rpm Great review Chops 👍🏻

Versatile piece of kit. Quite a narrow saddle for a Beemer. BMW classify the bike as a Sports Tourer. But they really haven't replaced the K1300S which was super comfortable, plenty of poke and lush electronic suspension. Are BMW like Triumph, giving us bikes that they think we want, as opposed to what bikers really want...?
The tiger series excluded as that absolutely does apply there, what other areas do you think triumph acts like that? I'm saying that as someone who loves the street/speed triple series and my dad owns a scrambler and bobber as his dreambikes (mines the thruxton rs)
I like the thoughts of wheelies at mid revs.. The bike looks brilliant I think a test ride is due.. Thanks very much for your honesty, I was pushing you to ride this bike really appreciate that 😀 👍
Spot on vid! LCR!! Now you’ve ridden the new 2021 KTM super adventure S would you take this or that for a one bike fits all? Sport and touring with a pillion.
Hahaa... the standing-up seat option works a treat for me too! I find myself standing up quite often during a long ride on the Honda, when the missus is behind she rubs my butt, which is so nice...such as relief. One of my bikes I use as a commuter mile-muncher, a Honda VFR800X 2017, I'm looking to replace soon with the particular bike you're riding in this video. I've had to raise the seat up massively on the vfr for my size (6'5'") and also fitted one of those air hawk cushions, and still my arse cheeks hurt at around 120 miles. I ride from Pembs in Wales up to Blackpool for work, a 262 mile journey and the Honda gets me up there on one tank (just about!). To be fair it's never put a foot wrong, never missed a beat, and it's V4 engine sounds amazing with its exhaust I've fitted to it. As for the XR, I think even with some reserved riding up through the welsh country roads and motorways in the Northwest, I'd end up having to take a pit stop and refuel.
Nice review choppie my pedigree chum, question is. You have ridden the Multi 1260 Pikes peak. Which would you buy with your own money. This XR or the Pikes Peak. Your opinion is valued, so give us your reasons why also? Keep up the solid job.
Great review. I’ve really been looking at swapping to a sports tourer. This is top of my lists. But waiting and hoping for a tracer 10 before I make a real decision.
I sat on a previous model to see if I wanted one and I couldn’t get my boots on the shifter or the brake levers without contorting my feet. The levers didn’t stick out far enough. I bought a VStrom instead.
I’m fine on any bike for 4-5 hours. After that, the bike’s ergo’s, wind protection, etc. make orders of magnitude difference in my endurance. I feel like that seat wouldn’t make a difference for the first stint, but after 4-5 hours I would need to stop every hour, and at most, I don’t like to stop more than every 90-120 mins. Seems like a good compromise, but I wonder how much more comfort it gives compared to the S1000RR, which is pretty comfy in its own right.
Already up mate, I've asked them on insta if I could give some of their bike a go as I'm in Norfolk, they asked me to email Steph. It would be nice to work with them too, as my first official bike test reviews. I might get in touch with Seastar and a few other local companies too. Teapotone and Motobob have both been up to Krazy Horse too.
I am an active 52 yr old with similar insterest in similar motorcycles as you sir; loved your video on the S1000RR (old man's sport tourer), help me out please: RR or XR for you?
I've had three Kawasaki Concours 14's that I liked and are similar to this BMW but for what you did today my Goldwing is hard to beat... I ride very little this time of year because here it's just too hot...
I rode the previous generation (2018) a few time’s. It’s very fast and good fun but I find for general riding it was a little bit bland. Sounded good and cornered well but just didn’t give me that tingle. On a long journey I’d rather take my vstrom which just has a bit more character to it. I hope they’ve improved on that.
Love the video. How would you compare xr1000r to the super Duke and the yamaha mt10. Fixing to buy one of the three but not sure which is the better bike. I thought you would be the best person to ask since you have experience with all three of them.
I beleive those side fenders were meant to be unstiff for the purpose of absorbing the maximum shock so they don't crack in case if the bike fell aside
Nice one LCR. Interesting that you step on the left leg as you mount the bike, I would have thought you were tall enough just to swing your leg over? Getting on taller bikes has always felt dodgy for me but not sure if I’d trust the side stand!!
Definitely like the updates for 2020... I suspect most XR's spend a lot of their lives without panniers mounted and the scaffolding of the 'classic ADV' luggage looked like a bunch of little men were in the middle of renovating the bike and hadn't quite finished yet. Now it's very much been "Multistrada'ified" wrt design... and that's IMO a fantastic change (XR is a comfy sport tourer with SOME ADV DNA just like the Multi). Now I'd like to ride it and see if it has some bit of the S1000RR ballistic top end maybe tamed a bit for better touring. I'd probably have that seat modified to flatten it A BIT. On long multiday tours it's REALLY important to be able to move your butt around (even with an Airhawk). Looks like the right fork is leaking... that's not encouraging on a bike with 1000 miles.
I'm not big on the trend towards adventure styled sports tourers, and this is a little guilty of it with the stilts, beakish front and hand guards. Good to see it still performs on the sports side of sports touring though. Probably still lean towards the Super Duke GT myself (or the R model, and just make do with soft luggage, no wind protection and manual suspension adjustment), because I love the sporty v-twins. Kawasaki's Ninja 1000 is another great value option, although perhaps just a little too sensible to really excite me. Also their H2 SX, although I haven't even seen one yet, let alone sat on or ridden one.
Great review once again! This bike is now on my wish list. So many tourers to choose from! This one looks like the winner. Question, what settings do you use for your helmet mounted cam?
Great Vid again. Your opinion on this Vs a new 2021 GS1250? I rode the GS for the first time a few weeks ago and it is the best bike I have ridden in the 24 years of my riding life. I’m getting off a Ninja 1000SX sport touring which felt on edge all the time and gave me bad vibes through the pegs seat and bars. I am looking for my unicorn bike. Please share your thoughts. Thanks!
Hey Chopsy what phone mount were you using for the S1000XR that put the phone exactly above the riser clamp? And where did you have it mounted! Cheers mate
Hey, I am planning to get one this week… 2016 are selling for $11k and 2020 is for $15k…. I had s1kRR for last 4 years… is it worth paying extra 4 grand for newer model ?
Entertaining review as always 007. I remember reading about the ride in PB with big John McAvoy, the XR and the Multistrada on a jaunt to France. Vibes through the bars was a bit of a complaint then if I recall. And didn’t you have to go shopping because you left your trousers at home? Nothing much has changed then 😉
Shiftcam: if the XR is about torque, couldn't they mod the engine for more torque and use shift cam to retain the top end? Would be ideal for an inline 4.
I tried the first version of this bike and loved it. I didn't get the infamous vibes other people got whilst riding it and I rode it most of the day. I was seriously thinking of getting one as I thought it was comfortable, easy to ride, Banzai fast and a licence looser. I bought a KTM1290 Super Duke instead😁
Hey Neill I’m in the market for either the 2020 bmw s1000xr, the Ducati 1260 multistrada, ,and the KTM 1290;super duke gt. Since you chose the super duke over the bmw s1000xr ,could you tell us why?
The easiest answer is that I love V twins, but you need to demo a few bikes yourself and see what floats your boat. I had a Multistrada Enduro but it kept breaking down so I was in the market for a new bike. The BMW was an excellent bike but once I had tried the KTM - I was hooked🤘😎😁
Great review chops but I'd take the Kawasaki H2 SX SE over this. It has a far more engaging engine with that supercharger and a much stronger low and mid range as you would expect. Take care mate and ride safely.
Today I used that Calimoto for the first time. After 30kms of Finnish gravel roads on my CBR600RR I had enough and deleted the app.. Like I'm riding a sportsbike not a Toyota Yaris WRC..
I'd love to have seen a review of the panniers......

No not with the luggage it's too high even for me!
Yet to try the XR, planning a review on it compared to my GS1250
Thanks!
Great review with a quick question. If you had to choose one bike that does it all between the Super Duke GT and this, which would you go for?
Great vid chops
Review of Greg's 890 r sounds tasty
the xr is a sweet bike m8 thanks for the vid!
Great video as always. Please can you tell me where you got the small aftermarket wind deflector screen from, and the cost? Many thanks 👍
Thank god they’re giving it the HP color scheme.
Hey Chopsy what phone mount were you using for the S1000XR that put the phone exactly above the riser clamp?
And where did you have it mounted! Cheers mate
Good stuff, can you tell us what the screen set up is?..
Hey, I am planning to get one this week… 2016 are selling for $11k and 2020 is for $15k…. I had s1kRR for last 4 years… is it worth paying extra 4 grand for newer model ?
Thank you. Great content.
Awesome. So pleased that you had a comfortable arse! Keep on keeping on. 😃💥
Entertaining review as always 007. I remember reading about the ride in PB with big John McAvoy, the XR and the Multistrada on a jaunt to France. Vibes through the bars was a bit of a complaint then if I recall. And didn’t you have to go shopping because you left your trousers at home? Nothing much has changed then 😉
Haha good memory 👍👍 yes bloody trouser fiasco 😂😂
Shiftcam: if the XR is about torque, couldn't they mod the engine for more torque and use shift cam to retain the top end?
Would be ideal for an inline 4.
12:30 When you quick shift up in cruise control it doesn't disangage wow 🤨 I didn't know it can do that never tried on my F850GS 🙄
Great bike, good review.
Quality review as always Chops 🙂👍
Enjoyed that, thanks Chopsy.
I like the BMW cup holder !!, great vid 👍👍🇬🇧
CANT WAIT TO SEE YOUR 890 DUKE R REVIEW..😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I tried the first version of this bike and loved it. I didn't get the infamous vibes other people got whilst riding it and I rode it most of the day. I was seriously thinking of getting one as I thought it was comfortable, easy to ride, Banzai fast and a licence looser. I bought a KTM1290 Super Duke instead😁
Hey Neill I’m in the market for either the 2020 bmw s1000xr, the Ducati 1260 multistrada, ,and the KTM 1290;super duke gt. Since you chose the super duke over the bmw s1000xr ,could you tell us why?
Thanks
The easiest answer is that I love V twins, but you need to demo a few bikes yourself and see what floats your boat. I had a Multistrada Enduro but it kept breaking down so I was in the market for a new bike. The BMW was an excellent bike but once I had tried the KTM - I was hooked🤘😎😁
Neill thanks 👍
Great review chops but I'd take the Kawasaki H2 SX SE over this. It has a far more engaging engine with that supercharger and a much stronger low and mid range as you would expect. Take care mate and ride safely.
Today I used that Calimoto for the first time. After 30kms of Finnish gravel roads on my CBR600RR I had enough and deleted the app.. Like I'm riding a sportsbike not a Toyota Yaris WRC..
Haha, yeah dont go for the super twisty option! It's not great for sportsbike, brilliant for supermoto!
What would you have this or the mt10 and which would you say is a comfier ride
Good to see you are eating a healthy breakfast - need that nutrition for the long ride :)
