    ‘Spit’ has nu-metal elements as well as punk, metal, goth... ‘Oracle’ was a straightforward metal album, and then you get to ‘In the Black’ which is the BEST Kittie album and their last full length release which are full of elements of thrash, doom, sludge/stoner rock, and the black metal-esque vocals. The guitar riffs/solo, drumming, bass, and vocals are such a 180 from their debut album it’s insane. And no band has progressed as much as Kittie IMO, and Morgan’s vocals have matured more than any I’ve heard. If you watch their live set from ‘99 and then their live DVD from 2017 and it’s enough to make you soil yourself lol 😂
    Amazing episode- you guys get along great and I laughed my ass off almost the whole time. Thank you for the entertainment and having the Queen Ms Morgan Lander on with you guys 💜

    I love Nu-Metal! So many fantastic bands that are no longer around or have moved on from that genre. I love that there is a revival with bands like tallah, tetrarch, Guerrilla warfare, motionless in white, new Static X ,and Omerta just to name some. I believe Nu-metal was created not just as a rap metal genre but that certain sound where you had this as yall said bounce yes but also a certain aggressiveness you didnt really have in death metal, hardcore metal, power metal, etc. It was emotional, aggressive, moving sound. and many of these bands were just focused on the rhythm of the sound. That was one thing i love about new metal is that you have this powerful message without any break with a random solo but this sick breakdown where you can just go into yourself and get crazy. bands like korn, limp bizcuit, nothing face, static X, deftones, early kittie, mushroomhead, motograter, mudvayne etc all brought this crazy emotion to the music that only some bands could have pulled off back then. even the less popular bands that i think helped push the genre into alot of metalcore style bands have grown from. kittie last two albums were very metalcore, power metal style, Spineshank's singer created silent civilian, slipknot even has grown from there more simple format into this nu metalcore band. It is exciting to see what the future holds for nu metal and maybe we will see a new wave of spiked hair, all black wearing, kids with pants too large for the washer. Exciting times

      Alot of people still think nu metal means rap metal which is totally wrong, rap nu metal is just a subgenre of the genre such as industrial nu or alternative nu "which is often more melodic"
      Also Bands like Skrape, dry kill logic were purely great but they didnt get the recognition they deserved, their first album deserved to go platinum and represnt the genre of nu metal "none of them has rap"
      Drowning pool is also a great band and didnt get what they deserve after their first album and death of their original vocalist, they didnt go soft/pop but remained pretty decent with a heavy/agressive/melodic sound from their second album to their lattest album Hellelujah 2016, its true they changed vocalist 4 times but each one was great

      Soheib kidouche agreed up until drowning pool. 1st album was great. 2nd album was eh, everything with the singer from soil was soil w a different name. Sorry not a fan lol. Love dry kill logic.

    Nu Metal was never a dirty word for me. I love it and always will. I miss Jnco! Maybe not the crazy big ones but the brand was awesome. Sure there's a bit of Nu Metal that hasn't aged well but for the most part it was one of the most interesting and important parts of metal period. Plus it was the most financially lucrative times in metal and was at the forefront of the mainstream. Never was there a time where metal had so many unique vocalists. Sure there are much more skilled vocalists from before and after but now days the vast majority of singers sounds the same.

    • @radioclash84
      @radioclash84 2 роки тому +2

      It was definitely a style of music. When Korn came up with the first few albums it was unique then everyone else copied them, not just musically they even copied their mannerisms you know the low guitars, bending knees, having that idiotic look on your face(it was cool when Korn did it) even bands like Machinehead copied them. It started becoming formulaic. It was and is a style.

    Great video, Morgan is always a really cool guest! I'm 40 and have seen tons and tons of metal bands over the years, including some nu metal ones : I only ever saw Kittie once (on their tour for "In The Black", I believe) and they. fucking. crushed. it. Waaaay better than the majority of nu metal bands, and one of the best metal bands period, imho.

    I've never understood the stigma that got attached to nu metal. It was always being pushed by the music media, and people allowed it to stick in their heads, which in itself, is an incredibly UN metal thing.
    I still think the first Kittie album is the best sounding and most enjoyable, and I'd love to see them go back to their roots for one more album

    • @nu-metalfan2654
      @nu-metalfan2654 2 роки тому +2

      @shreddherring. I think to better understand Nu-Metal you need to look at what was happening before Nu-Metal came to be and what it’s influences was.
      In the very late 80’s and early 90’s there was a ton of bands coming up that were doing different sounds, you had the Funk bands like King’s X, Faith No More, RHCP, Mr Bungle, 24-7 Spyz, Primus, Living Colour, Mordred, Ignorance, Jane’s Addiction, and Scatterbrain, during that time you had the early rap groups like Run DMC, NWA, Beastie Boys, House Of Pain, and Wu Tang.
      You also had Grunge and Sludge coming up like Melvins, TAD, Fudge Tunnel, Nirvana, Babes In Toyland, L7, Hole, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Gruntruck, and My Sister’s Machine.
      There was Groove Metal, Industrial, and crossover stuff happening like Pantera, Sepultura, Prong, White Zombie, Fear Factory, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Biohazard, Helmet, Quicksand, and Life Of Agony.
      All of these bands and sounds would influence Nu-Metal.

    I'm still proud of the fact that I made the first Kittie fan-site. There was a feature in the left frame called "Outrageous Guestbook Entries" of a bunch of assholes posting VERY VERY derogatory things about the girls in my guestbook, that were 16 or 17 at the time, just terrible, terrible stuff. Kittie will always be one of my favorite bands. I was 17 when I put up that webpage, I'm 41 now.

    I feel it can easily be seen as one would talk about historic periods. especially ones within the art world, that were basically cultural movements. I feel like nu metal for music was the same as eclecticism was within art noveau a 100 years before it xD As it was a blend of different genres together with a main genre (in this case metal) in an experimental way, while still delivering on heaviness and having a distinct fashion associated with it etc
    at least I have always viewed it that way and to me the genre makes perfect sense because of this comparison

    I totally feel what Morgan is saying about those first nu metal albums. I grew up on metal, and was already listening to thrash, and early death/black metal by age 7(1988). Even for me, when that first Korn album dropped... So did my balls. There was NOTHING like it previously, and really did reinvent the heavy wheel. I can't stand 99% of nu metal, but that first wave was excellent - the first 2 Korn albums(and Issues was highly underrated - it's like Pink Floyd interpreted by Korn), Deftones(I still love everything they put out - probably the only nu metal band I still follow, though I don't consider them nu metal anymore)... Soulfly(was already a huge Sepultura fan)... And a couple gems from the later wave, such as Kittie. The problem with nu metal was never the best acts, it's the wake of terrible acts that followed.

    New metal is an acronym for new metal sound and that’s exactly what the sound was it was a new kind of metal It’s like hip-hop where you had different types of one sound but all got lumbered up into the same name ands it’s the same as with new metal you had different types of new metal sound so I suppose the media that’s what they called it even if it wasn’t a new Metal band any band that come out at that time was labelled new metal

    im 36, i was a teenager when the nu-metal genre was booming, we where belittled by other metalheads as the softer wannabes who want to listen to metal but don't really know what metal is, and i agree with you guys, if you wanna strip down the bands whom where called nu-metal you would come up with new genres, for instance Deftones are clearly the shoegaze nu-metal, Korn first few album had this hardcore vibe of nu-meatl along with Coal Chamber, Godsmack are more of Nu-grunge. i wanna say Machine Head are a bit mistreated by you guys.. hear me out. there are so many songs that they have released that made them what they are! you can say whatever about a half assed Pantera or whatever but its true Logan Madder, Rob Flynn are really great musicians and made a lot of great effort to the genre! Kittie was massive in my point of view.. oh by the way, industrial Nu-metal would be Spineshank, Static X, Powerman 5000

    There's a thing going on, most of the bands and their fans don't like to admit they were or are nü metal (I think mostly about Deftones and Linkin Park). With that said, I definitely think Slipknot is not nü metal. They have a DJ and fiddled with rap in the first album, but the songs are much faster and the riffs have a stronger root (no pun intended) in thrash and death metal.

    • @fredd3233
      @fredd3233 3 роки тому

      Imho, Deftones never was a nu metal band. I'll concede that Chino Moreno sang the odd rap vocals on some verses here and there at the beginning of their career, but the riffs and song structures were wayyyy more evolved than any bands from the nu metal era, even on their first album. To me their sound is so unique and hard to pinpoint that they are in a genre of their own :)

    Nu-Metal finally "grew up"?
    Praise: Coal Chamber and Static-X; definately 100% bash: Orgy and Crazy Town.
    Pioneers that lit Nu-Metal's spark while not being Nu-Metal themselves imho were Faith No More and Fear Factory.
    And the most matured bands "starting at Nu-Metal" are probably Deftones and KoRn.
    Edit: Also the Tapeworm Gang happend at the Nu Metal Age - Trend Reznor, Maynard James Keenan and Marilyn Masnon, look it up. :D Their Industrial and "Math Rock" was kinda like a sun in the MTV solar system Nu-Metal orbited for the most time - at least on the side of stardom and questionable glamour.

      i wouldn't call Orgy nu-metal. electro-industrial synth rock, really. I sorta like the OG albums but they suck now.

    I'm lifting up Deftones. I'm dropping Limp Bizkit, but keeping Wes Borland(worst band ever, with best guitarist). Edit: I wrote this before Wes got mentioned in the video.
    PS: Godsmack is literally nu metal, lol she's crazy to think otherwise. 😆

      I like Machine Head (without being a super fan), I think, as Jordan said, their 1st two records were more akin to Pantera. Albums 3 and 4 were clearly influenced by nu metal, no doubt about that. Since The Blackening, they went straight up metal (with a hefty dose of thrash, as you wrote, David), with longer songs and tons of different parts in them. Those albums are really good and are well worth a listen (except the last one, Catharsis, which is pretty bad, tbh).

    nu metal is currently alive and well, but it's being made by hip hop artists, and most metalheads are close-minded when it comes to exploring music outside metal. check out: city morgue, ghostemane, etc. Hip hop is currently fucking with nu metal heavy! same for emo rap!

    Nu metal was like one hair away from being glam metal. Seriously, they were all similar, a lot of focus on image, a lot of them wore make up or masks or whatever, and then they all did the god damn 80s cover. ALL OF THEM. Also I do not know what people consider Korn and Deftones Nu metal. When I think of Nu metal I think everything that came out 1998-2003. Korn's first album came out in 1994. And yes God Smack can get flushed. Puke

    Omg... Omg... Who is that girl that lift ups Slipknot 😔😔😔even my grandma know them! They don't need any more fame.. Machine head is bad nu metal band?🤣🤣 Oh no.. oh my god... Machine head had nu metal influences, but I think that they are now just a heavy metal band with occasional nu metal vibes.. for example Halo has badass nu metal riff but the whole song isn't nu metal at all.. Now I lay thee down is great metal track but not nu metal.. most nu metal track is From this day... She is stupid or she knows only well known bands and she chooses from them..? I would put for example Ill Niño as a band that deserved more recognition.. but, you see, it's a matter of opinion, even Crazy Town has something appealing to somebody.. for worst nu metal bands I would choose Crazy Town or Reveille, but if you don't take it too seriously, it's great to listen to this sometimes.. Crazy town has great track take it to the bridge, Reveille what you got.. yeah, they're not the greatest songs musically or lyricaly but i can enjoy it... I think that pointing at something horrible from that scene comes from critics and all that gatekeepers that shit on nu metal and gave it this bad reputation.. it actually isn't bad genre as everybody expects to be.. you can hate some bands, but still.. you can hate them the same way as in any other genre.. for example I hate ac/dc 😃just annoying to me af xD
