Then instead of paying attention to their mistake, WCW bought up allot of these old guys, and did great with the nwo, but overkilled it, instead of naturally ending it, and buried that young talent, that brought allot of Superstars to the wwe

I was at the 92 Rumble. And Sid couldn't be more right. When he tossed Hogan, we ALL went wild. And by the end, Hogan got booed so much, I thought I witnessed Hogan turning heel. I couldnt wait to see Supertars only to see that history had been re-written. While Sid gave notice that night, I gave notice as a fan within the week. The last time I spent money on a WWF event..And yes I said "F"
I stopped watching wrestling at about 11 ...1991 ...but I can not get enough when it comes to seeing what these men have to say about the 80s wrestling

I was at that match in Providence , Danny Davis was a heel referee at the time. Jake would pull his own hair and fall down & the Ref would admonish Hogan LMAO it was awesome. I worked at the airport & that day I saw both Jake & Hogan arrive in RI. Hogan ran right thru the airport to his car avoiding everyone including kids. Jake who was traveling with Moolah actually took time to take pictures with kids and sign autographs & he was a heel,I never forgot that, Jake is a great guy

I could see Sid Vicious/Justice looked particularly strained at Wrestlemania 8 even though he was a main eventer. Now I see the whole picture. He had longed prepared to tender. I loved him back then till now in his Justice run. It's phenomenal.
He was over Mid South wrestling I watched as a kid and I saw Jerry the King lawler beat the “Hulk” one Saturday morning only to see Hulk Hogan emerge up north in WWF a few years later and become the main event
And Ric Flair, Steve Austin Scott Steiner, Triple H, and Jesse Ventura also were heavily inspired by Billy. Flair was so "inspired" by Buddy Rogers that he took his name. Sting was so "inspired" by the movie "The Crow" he basically cosplays as the lead to this day. Wrestling is full of people taking heavy inspiration of those who came before and other popular cultural things. It isn't what you are inspired by, it is what you do with it. People just like to trash Hogan because they don't like him, not because he is deserving of it. He may not be the best individual, but that doesn't change the fact that he was one of the most impactful wrestlers to ever enter the ring; he accomplished more than Billy Graham ever did.

It turns out, he told the higher ups that his shtick would blow up huge if he could be a baby face, but I guess they thought they needed to start new, since they always used him as heel. So they gave Hogan all his characteristics except as baby face, so Hogan got to blow up big. And yeah, he is humble now, but dude went off the edge with drug addictions because he couldn’t handle his character being given to someone else and himself made irrelevant.
Just my opinion but Lex comes across as that Great Uncle that you only see at cookouts once a year who shows up and tells the grandkids road stories for hours while they're all sat round the fire just rapt with wonderment. So friendly and soft spoken
Tony atlas said Hogan was a self made wrestler/entertainer. Hogan in Japan actually wrestled but in the states was a entertainer. People said companies wanted Hogan for drawing power not in ring ability.
That was Sid's time because fans tired of the "face" being too goody two shoes all of time. Sid was big, had the look, the demeanor, was a terrific actor and was at his best when he was in a rage yelling about something. The problem with Sid is that he had to be a villain and would have had no real competition to keep the belt for a real long time. It wasn't until Austin came about as a bad ass villainous face that wrestling fans took to him, and it worked brilliantly and kept us watching.
All of them made the WWF what it was back then, but regardless of what they say, no one could carry the WWF like Hulk Hogan as the main icon in those days.
Hulk just wanted to be in the main event status therefore he never agreed to put over many wrestlers who were damn more talented than him so....... Hulk Hogan sucks

Hogan was the man. Vincent McMahon and the current WWF/WWE owes alot to Hogan. Boxing had Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson, NBA had Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. Wrestling had Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Steve Austin and Buddy Rogers and Bruno Sammartino before them
Melvyn Singleton except those other sports were not predetermined or choreographed. Vince made the conscious decision to make him “the guy” and he took the opportunity and made the most out of it. Unfortunately his ego ran wild and he stood in the way of pushing the business past himself on several occasions not allowing others to be bigger than him, even when he was older and past his prime. Which leaves us wondering if he did more harm than good.
Sid is right. When Hogan threw him out it made Hogan look like a heel and when Hogan got pulled out by Sid he acted like a cry baby heel. They should pulled the trigger on a heel turn then. It would have made Sid.

What Hogan did to Sting at Starrcade was all I need to know about Hogan. That was a travesty and ruined a years worth of momentum for WCW, the company that wrote his checks.
hogan is a important part of wrestling history, bar none. but let's not get it twist. hogan doesn't love the business. he loves the money he gets from the business. i can count on one hand the number of wrestlers he's put over, warrior being the most notable. but how many times he's put himself over others? i'd need my extended family to count them all.
I think, especially in the 80s and 90s, that there was only a certain amount of money WWF was willing to pay out to all the wrestlers. And it wasn’t as much as the superstars make today. So Hogan wasn’t going to help bring new talent in that would dilute the amount of money being paid out to everyone. Of course he was looking out for himself, but he had been screwed over by promoters in the past and wasn’t going to let that happen again.
I like Hogan, hes always been super cool with fans and treats them with respect at signings etc. With regards to his professional/financial life, thats his business not ours.

I was there at RR92 live, it was my birthday present. The fans were mixed on the Hogan elimination. There were many WCW fans in the crowd happy that either Flair or Sid was about to win the WWF championship. Hogan fans far outnumbered Flair/Sid fans. However, the majority of people did not like Hogan's reaction after being tossed out. Point is Hogan's time was far from over and it wasnt the majority cheering he was out. WWF clearly did not expect Flair to bring as many fans with him as he did.

The truth and actually sad thing with jake though, being a heavy drug addict then, meant that making more money would have meant more drugs. It wouldn't have made much of a difference. Don't think he wouldn't invested ,saved or helped others or even himself. Mo money mo problems was almost certain with him. It would've just meant more drugs for him. I wanted Mr Perfect to beat Hogan, back in the day, he was my favorite, I was a outsider in high school and I didn’t fit in the crowd, I liked Mr Perfect, because you was supposed to hate him. I miss old school wrestling, I did didn’t know about 72 different genders back then, and calling a woman, The Man is something, I couldn’t comprehend back then.

The best thing I ever saw about Hogan was something Nash said. Nash and him talked in a hotel parking lot for over an hour, with Nash explaining how Hogan was keeping the other guys down and not letting them get the right opportunities, and to Hulk's credit he sat there and listened to Nash say his piece, but in the end he just said "Brother, what you're proposing will cost me money." Nash just shook his hand, and said alright man.

Rick was/is an interesting man and sadly as he died far too young, We have and will never get a career shoot interview obviously but every story I've heard told by others about him makes me wish that it wasn't that way. As a kid, Like 6 years old to 8-ish, I always thought Freddie Mercury due to the tache and hair colour/style but not homosexual and absolutely shredded. Watching wrestling in the 80s and kinda into the 90s it was Hogan and Warrior. Iconic. Of course there are many others but these two were my favorites. The Rock and Austin are right behind these two imo.

@marquanes williams The Rock might be the most well known amongst people who have no knowledge of wrestling prior to the year 2000. That's it. And it's due to acting in movies. He is in no way the most famous wrestler of all time. He's a great actor both in and out of the ring but really didn't do anything for the sport and certainly didn't sacrifice his body or sanity for it like others have. Many wrestlers gained much wider notoriety prior to 2000. Wrestling was HUGE in the '70s and really was at its best in the '80s and '90s before drugs, murder, suicide, and learning about damage to the human body really started to tame the sport. Look into Dark Side Of The Ring, Beyond The Mat, The Resurrection of Jake The Snake, For All Mankind, The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling, and I've forgotten a few others but you get the point. Many others were known farther and wider for their actual wrestling careers as opposed to movies.

I loved Hogan in his early career and in the 80's but I simply could not stand Hogan later on when he joined the NWO. I also could not stand that he showed Ric Flair little to no respect when they wrestled. It was always about Hogan and how easy it was to beat Flair.
Seemed plenty passionate to me, but also refused to let people push him around. Had there been more big stars like that, Hall, Nash, and Hogan likely wouldn't have ran WCW, and there would've been better competition in the WWF

You are forgetting the biggest superstar. Andre The Giant was the very first universal superstar. World renowned, and loved. Plus, too this day, no one that knew him says a bad word about him.

Sting was so "inspired" by the movie "The Crow" he basically cosplays as the lead to this day. Wrestling is full of people taking heavy inspiration of those who came before and other popular cultural things. It isn't what you are inspired by, it is what you do with it. People just like to trash Hogan because they don't like him, not because he is deserving of it. He may not be the best individual, but that doesn't change the fact that he was one of the most impactful wrestlers to ever enter the ring; he accomplished more than Billy Graham ever did.

It turns out, he told the higher ups that his shtick would blow up huge if he could be a baby face, but I guess they thought they needed to start new, since they always used him as heel. So they gave Hogan all his characteristics except as baby face, so Hogan got to blow up big. And yeah, he is humble now, but dude went off the edge with drug addictions because he couldn’t handle his character being given to someone else and himself made irrelevant.

That was Sid's time because fans tired of the "face" being too goody two shoes all of time. Sid was big, had the look, the demeanor, was a terrific actor and was at his best when he was in a rage yelling about something. The problem with Sid is that he had to be a villain and would have had no real competition to keep the belt for a real long time. It wasn't until Austin came about as a bad ass villainous face that wrestling fans took to him, and it worked brilliantly and kept us watching.
All of them made the WWF what it was back then, but regardless of what they say, no one could carry the WWF like Hulk Hogan as the main icon in those days.
Hulk just wanted to be in the main event status therefore he never agreed to put over many wrestlers who were damn more talented than him so....... Hulk Hogan sucks

Melvyn Singleton except those other sports were not predetermined or choreographed. Vince made the conscious decision to make him “the guy” and he took the opportunity and made the most out of it. Unfortunately his ego ran wild and he stood in the way of pushing the business past himself on several occasions not allowing others to be bigger than him, even when he was older and past his prime. Which leaves us wondering if he did more harm than good.

I think, especially in the 80s and 90s, that there was only a certain amount of money WWF was willing to pay out to all the wrestlers. And it wasn’t as much as the superstars make today. So Hogan wasn’t going to help bring new talent in that would dilute the amount of money being paid out to everyone. Of course he was looking out for himself, but he had been screwed over by promoters in the past and wasn’t going to let that happen again.
I like Hogan, hes always been super cool with fans and treats them with respect at signings etc. With regards to his professional/financial life, thats his business not ours.

I was there at RR92 live, it was my birthday present. The fans were mixed on the Hogan elimination. There were many WCW fans in the crowd happy that either Flair or Sid was about to win the WWF championship. Hogan fans far outnumbered Flair/Sid fans. However, the majority of people did not like Hogan's reaction after being tossed out. Point is Hogan's time was far from over and it wasnt the majority cheering he was out. WWF clearly did not expect Flair to bring as many fans with him as he did.

Watching wrestling in the 80s and kinda into the 90s it was Hogan and Warrior. Iconic. Of course there are many others but these two were my favorites. The Rock and Austin are right behind these two imo.

He is in no way the most famous wrestler of all time. He's a great actor both in and out of the ring but really didn't do anything for the sport and certainly didn't sacrifice his body or sanity for it like others have. Many wrestlers gained much wider notoriety prior to 2000. Wrestling was HUGE in the '70s and really was at its best in the '80s and '90s before drugs, murder, suicide, and learning about damage to the human body really started to tame the sport. Look into Dark Side Of The Ring, Beyond The Mat, The Resurrection of Jake The Snake, For All Mankind, The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling, and I've forgotten a few others but you get the point. Many others were known farther and wider for their actual wrestling careers as opposed to movies.

Hogan is far from a perfect human being and yeah maybe he took that ball and rolled with it, but he sweats charisma and he's got the perfect voice and look as a face. But he never became my favorite wrestler until he morphed into Hollywood. He was the perfect heel always having his NWO minions do the dirty work for him. Vince was right to make him the guy in the 80's and his historic heel turn made the WCW relevant and is a top 3 moment in wrestling history.

I loved Hogan in his early career and in the 80's but I simply could not stand Hogan later on when he joined the NWO. I also could not stand that he showed Ric Flair little to no respect when they wrestled. It was always about Hogan and how easy it was to beat Flair.

Sad to hear these stories about Hulk Hogan. He definitely is the most famous of all time, and I loved him as a kid. I’m not American but sung his theme choon with all my heart when it came on lol. He did totally rip superstar Billy Graham for sure.
It’s not so much that he ripped him off, as it is that Vince gave it to Hogan. Graham was already an established heel for so long, they thought it would be easier to reboot than rebrand.
Hogan became huge in the cartoon era and helped destroy wrestling. Flair and Sammartino were were real wrestling superstars.
You are forgetting the biggest superstar. Andre The Giant was the very first universal superstar. World renowned, and loved. Plus, too this day, no one that knew him says a bad word about him.
