@@JM00237Macho Man was a controlling prick that treated his wife (Ms Elizabeth) like a possession. Don’t really care if he liked Jim Hellwig. By most accounts, Jim was an insecure loner that got into body building, and started wrestling for the money. Vince McMahon smitten with his physique pushed him to the top despite the fact he didn’t wrestle like a professional, and couldn’t care less about his colleagues, or the blood sweat and tears they shed to earn their place in wrestling. I’ve seen his older internet posts about his history in the business, and most of the time it’s just long drawn out rambling. In later years, I think Jim had some introspection about his career, and the people he worked with, and made peace with several of the people during his induction. For that, I do respect the man. Honestly if he gave a shit about the business, the people he worked with, and strived to improve his technique, nobody would have anything bad to say about him.
@Newrounder Absolutely no one kicked out of finishes back then unless it was something like the main event of WrestleMania. Sid had an issue with Warrior kicking out of his finish on house shows.
@Newrounder because warrior was known for kicking out of finishers in a very no-sell way, like he was just too powerful for moves to truly hurt him. its dumb and didnt help the business one bit @ that time, when kayfabe was still relatively strong.
What I gathered was the fact it was constant, rather than a different way of ending the match. Since Warrior kicking out of the powerbomb, especially with the way he would do it, would just shit on Sid. I got the impression his issue was the same finish that made him look weak.
You do know that wwe changes the crowds reactions all the time, right? I don't know about this particular incident, but they've done it a lot in the past
@@alabasterfigueroa4431 Yeah, but I saw WM6 live on PPV, and unless they were pumping cheers through the speakers live, then there's no question in my mind that Warrior's win went over huge. I get that skepticism when it comes to wrestling: I question it every time Jake Roberts talks about how you can't do the DDT safely anywhere but in the ring, I question it whenever Hogan talks about not knowing whether Andre was willing to do the job at WM3, and I question the legitimacy of several famous shoot moments. But given what you can still see and hear at the end of WM6, combined with Bruti's tendency to defend Hogan in any situation, it just makes more sense to believe your eyes and ears. And that's not a slap at brother Bruti, either. I always liked the Barber character and enjoyed his matches more than others seem to.
I don't really care much for Ultimate Warrior but Beefcake is full of himself. I was at the Skydome. When Ultimate Warrior won the match the place went absolutely bat snot insane for him!
Your right they were also cheering for Hogan because real fans appreciated the fact he did the job for Jim. There were no boo's at all. Beefcake and ex-pac are 2 of the most full of shit wrestlers ever. Beefcake will put Hogan on a godly pedistal every time and ex-pac has been at every major event in wrestling sense 1945 lol
What i find amazing is everytime I watch interviews of the older wrestlers, which are better than any of the new ones, they seem to be all about doing what is good for the business. Don't hear that today. Sad. God I miss the "old days".
Rarely ever heard anything good about Ultimate Warrior. Most guys said he was from another planet and difficult to work with. He legally changed his last name from Hellwig to Warrior. His 2nd wife's last name is Warrior & his 2 kids are little Warriors!
I was a Brutus Beefcake fan as a kid, but nobody would ever claim, on any level, that Warrior didn't reach the heights Beefcake did. Warrior became one of the most transcendent characters in wrestling history. Beefcake was over, absolutely, but Warrior was on a completely different level and always will be.
Barry McDonough I don’t know where you were living or how old you were in the late 80s, but there was a stretch where Warrior was probably the most popular wrestler in the WWF.
Warrior is the best ever. Forget everyone else. He made his own character and was totally different from anyone else....and he was his own man and made a lot of money.
Warrior was my all time favorite for so many reasons. First, before you even see him, you hear the name. The Ultimate Warrior. Damn! And then you see him. Every kid in school wanted to look like him. Physique, long hair, make up. The interviews, although most people talk smack, I thought they were outstanding. Clever, creative, thought provoking, unusual and very intense. The music was perfect. Late 80s guitar driven hard rock that you have to run to the ring. Shaking the ropes and creating more electricity. I just wish he was a better wrestler. But he wasnt. He was just there to kick every ones ass.
Exactly. As a kid I was into Piper as a brawler, Jake and Rude as showmen, Perfect for technical ability and swagger... Warrior made up for all of that with that psycho power gimmick. All I wanted to see was him run down there and destroy people for 20 seconds and when he did it was fucking magical.
Funny that all anyone can say about the warrior was his name and look because his wrestling skills were absolutely horrid and he was by far thee most overrated garbage wrestler to have ever existed..
Calm swag is a whole different type. Flair's swag was a hyped up style. Warrior's swag was maximized intensity... But Jake had this calm intensity that would be very hard to fake. All 3 are legendary, so different, so awesome
They are great, but I'm not sure how much I believe him all of the time. This story, I believe, as he's told it before. It's coherent enough to be true and he changes slight bits to account for memory drift, whereas if it was a lie, the story would either get more hugely embellished or stay exactly the same.
Lolol!! On a serious note though I waited on Brutus and Greg Valentine. Brutus was a cool and a humble guy, Greg Valentine was in his own world and on his phone the whole time. Beefcake too was sporting some stretch pants and the infamous "fanny pack" that all the wrestlers and body builders wear.. 😂👍
July 18, 1987 in Toronto. I was 14 yrs old. Me and my buddy used to go to several shows a year and always wait out back afterwards hoping to run into wrestlers on their way out. This night there were about 4 or 5 teenagers waiting when out walk The British Bulldogs with the Ultimate Warrior (still Dingo Warrior then). All excited, we followed them for a few steps when under his breath, Warrior said "fuck off" to me and the other 3 or 4 fans. Scared shitless and shocked, we stopped in our tracks. Having met plenty of wrestlers after shows this was the ONLY negative experience I ever had. End of story.
12:50 to 14:15 Greg The Hammer Valentine spoke great about Ultimate Warrior! He was the ultimate businessman, & made sure everyone got there Fair or share..
it was crazy listening to him . but that was his character and he fucking nailed it , it does make sense if you're paying attention to what he's saying !! warrior man
As someone who grew up watching guys like Brutus the barber Beefcake and Jake the snake Roberts and even Demolition when they wrestled in their prime it’s sad to see their older selves. Everyone gets older I guess but I’d prefer to see their wrestling persona’s as I remembered them 🙂
Demolition the only people who showed some class in their comments. And greg valentine looks exactly the same as he did 30 years ago. Plasticy and chubby lol. Good for him
20 minutes of shooting on the Warrior and the most entertaining part of the whole thing was Jannety trying to tell a story about a banana eating contest with a straight face.
The thing that many people fail to realize is the intelligence of the Warrior. He played by his own rules and knew that Vince is/was/& always out for himself and whatever money he could make off the men who make WWE what is is. Warrior made people mad because he was able to out maneuver Vince with the personal merchandising when he changed his name and retained all the rights to his own likeness. Dude wouldn’t roll over for greedy promoters and got himself and a few others paid. You have to admit it took balls to play the WWE game and win. I had the pleasure of meeting Warrior at a signing and he was amazing to all the fans that were there. The guy took the time to have actual conversations with every person that was in line to see him. His character worked. The WWE hall of fame induction was long overdue and you could tell what his family meant to him. RIP Warrior.
I like what you wrote. I never was that much into the WWE, and never met any major wrestlers. the Ultimate Warrior was so unique and his body so damed shredded and ripped. I always considered him the most exciting wrestler to watch IMO. RIP indeed! God bless!!
The guy didn't WIN anything. The idiot could've had a long career with a lot of big paydays but he was too focused on the short-term. Now that's probably because he had no talent or love for the business, and maybe he was smart enough to realize that eventually promoters would catch on that he couldn't put on a decent match without a metric ton of help. So if that was the case, then yeah, he was smart in getting paid and getting out. But in terms of the money he could've made if he was willing to play ball, he lost out on a fortune by being an untrustworthy man-child. And really, the only good thing he did for the business was fuck off fast, and make way for guys who Actually give a shit and can wrestle.
@Sinister 1 wrong. Warrior died on my birthday an hour after I cut my birthday cake. He died of a heart disease while walking to the car from his hotel room with his wife. Don't need steroids to get a heart disease.
That is great to hear that he was great with the fans. I met Savage once and he was a grumpy dude who acted like he would rather be anywhere than be with the fans...it wasn't just one fan. It's too bad because I loved him as a wrestler and I only met him once so this is my lasting memory of the guy.
@@trebillis7399 i had the opposite interaction with him. I was a kid but he was great. Several pictures and he decided to get up and come around and do some poses. Held me up in gorilla press position, on his shoulder while we held up number one ☝️, and he held me by my ankle with one arm and flexed with the other. It was tight. One of the reasons I stopped watching WWF exclusively, and would watch WCW sometimes. I must’ve caught him on a good day.
Valentine could be thrown into any match with anyone and be credible as an opponent. Well, until he signed off on the Rhythm and Blues gimmick. The man could flat out work and the fans respected him.
I've posted this before but I like your comment and you're right and at the risk of being redundant: I know Greg well and he'd be the first to tell you that he's not that high energy spot guy and never was but he was, especially in his younger days, a very reliable hand. He was always a believer in less is more. He could go out there and do little as possible for a 20 minute match and draw great heat for it. He could work with just about anyone and make it a decent to good match too. He was a good worker that really understood what the business was back then.
I met The Honky Tonk Man at a convention in Long Beach a while ago. The picture I have of us STILL hangs in my living room. He was such a really pleasant & wonderful man & I'm soooo proud to have THAT picture STILL hanging up. If I have a bad day, THAT picture cheers me up like no other.
Honky Tonk Man in wrestling wasn't really someone I thought much of, but after seeing his interviews he has to be hands down one of the most interesting guys to listen too.
Beefcake's take is the most delusional thing I've ever heard. I lived through the whole era and at his height, Beefcake was a sidecar talent at best with a haircut gimmick. The warrior eclipsed the sun and the entire business with his popularity and you better believe the Toronto Skydome went insane after he won the titles. It was the furthest thing from being booed out the door lol..
i never heard one kid in school wanting to be the beefcake.... not one he's hogans buddy and is jealous because all beefcake did was ride on hogans coat tails
Beefcake has jealous AF written all over his forehead.......if you look at his interviews...he never talked shit about Warrior when he was alive...all this comes after he died.....he continually bashes Warrior now every chance he gets
I remember thinking, when I was a 10yr old WWF Fan, that Ultimate Warrior was the BAMF EVER because he beat guys so dang fast! All my friends and I would say the same thing...'He HAS to be better than Hulk, he beat ____ in about 2 minutes!' after these matches, now I know it was because he was not a good worker & Vince was smart enough to hide his incompetence. It worked on us little kids of the 80s-Early 90s.😳 These interviews are amazing. I can't get enough, it is so compelling and nostalgic. Bravo, gentlemen. 👏👏👏
Going 80-90 MPH down side streets... Ultimate Warrior was "Hell Bent" on taking shortcuts to get to the arena, in a town he knew absolutely nothing about...!!! *LMAO* 💙
I love seeing Marty Jannetty in interviews. He always seems so cool; and he's so funny; and he always has the best stories. I'd love to meet him someday.
@@emmettallen9438 that WWE dvd was pure shite. McMahon trying to destroy the image, legacy of Warrior in Wwf as he s done with other wrestlers that left Wwf/Wwe
Who would play him? The problem is it is hard to find people with the physique of these wrestlers. I think that is why we don't see many wrestling movies. You can see the problem on Young Rock.
Does Beefcake think its still 1982 and we can't fact check these thigs?! He wasn't booed, certainly not overwhelmingly at all at Mania 6. And he did reach higher heights than Beefer ever did. Total envy
I really enjoyed this very nice and wide varieties of experiences and impressions of Warrior. One of the best and most revealing I've seen! I especially enjoyed the story of Warrior's banana joke. Of all the sides of Warrior, that's one you don't really hear about and have trouble picturing, of making a fun and clever joke like that! Hard to even imagine Warrior joking around; I would have loved to have been there to witness it!
Brutis Beefcake, I was at Wrestlemania 6 , 18 rows back from the ring....NOBODY was booing the Ultimate Warrior! The crowd was 60-40 Warrior and about 90-10 for the Warrior when he won. The booing was when you defeated Mr Perfect!
"Perfectly put" I sense you agree with me that booking Perfect to lose this match destroyed Perfects push as the greatest heel. Terrible decision that only Beefcakes family wouldve agreed with.
Love how Brutus said they changed the ppv at the last second for Warrior to beat Honkey Tonk Man, even though HTM has said multiple times they planned it months in advance. Just shows how out of the loop Brutus was 😂
They had a TV taping in providence, ri right before warrior won the belt at summerslam- it was a rehearsal for it, because honky challenged anybody, and warrior came out and pinned honky the same exact squash. He was taped as the ic champ for the show, and Jack Tunney later reversed the decision. Once beefcake couldn't appear, the plan changed, but it wasnt last minute.
Say what you want but when you were a kid you also love the Ultimate Warrior and his intense energy. Didn't matter if the things he said made sense you always understood what he meant anyway.
As a wrestler the Ultimate Warrior was, well ultimate. He had such a cool look. He had the face paint and the tassels. He had the cool intro music. He had a super hero physique. He was a star in the business. As a person, the Ultimate Warrior was pretty self absorbed. I will always be a fan of Ultimate Warrior the wrestler. As for the person, not so much.
@@zne29m37 In Ring Ability: 1 out of 10 Charisma: 8 out of 10 Appearance: 10 out of 10 Professional wrestling isn't just about wrestling, it's entertainment. Ultimate Warrior was a star in the business. He sold tickets and made the company a lot of money during that time.
@@zne29m37 Well then I'd say Roman Reigns isn't a star either. Nor is Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Goldberg, Jon Moxley. and quite a few more because they all lack in 1 of the 3 categories.
These interviews are so much more entertaining to me than even wrestling. Some of these ex wrestlers are such awesome guys and guys I could have a night out with any day.
The Ultimate Warrior is truly an interesting individual. I mean, it is really interesting because to me, he let his overwhelming success get to his head... I'm just glad he got his issues resolved with WWE before his death...
The Ultimate Warrior was fun to watch if you are just some kid at home watching TV. I actually got a chance to see him live and it was pretty wild. But from what I saw live it looked like it was a little too real with him, more so than the other wrestlers.
I'm not a gigantic Ultimate Warrior fan, but there was definitely something to him. That awesome theme song, the sprinting to the ring, just so much awesome energy he projected. But Brutus Beefcake is delusional if he doesn't or is ignoring the fact that the people went nuts when Warrior beat Hogan
Yeah, even Hogan said that people were more concerned with watching the loser leave the ring than with watching the winner get the belt. But what's fucked up nowadays is that unless you were there, and unless you had seen it on TV when it happened, you really don't know what kind of pop there was because SFX has added crowd noise post production on so many big events.
Jim Hellwig, AKA The Ultimate Warrior, was a legend in the wrestling business, with tremendous charisma and a massively intimidating and impressive physique and an excellent look. His character was a bit maniacal but I think it many ways it kind of fit. But there are too many wrestlers from different companies, era's, levels and styles pointing out issues with working with him for me to believe he wasn't problematic. As a father and a husband, never heard a bad thing about him. Fans never said anything bad about meeting him. But backstage, he seemed a WRECK. And maybe his idea's weren't the best in the world. I'm sorry but nobody's perfect. Hogan has problems putting people over and playing politics but is still a legend, Randy Savage has a reputation for paranoia and an overly-intense personality but is still a legend, Jake the Snake had a serious case of drug issues throughout a lot of his career but is still a legend and people do change over time but I think Ultimate Warrior had some serious ego and personality problems, even if he did to a spectacular job at entertaining.
The best part was when Beefcake said he never reached Beefcakes level...don't remember Brutus being anything but a mid carder. One main event cause he was Hulks buddy.
Funny thing is I have heard just as many wrestlers say bad things about Brutus as they do about Warrior. I like Brutus as a wrestler, but seems his peers did not.
I will give all credit to all past and present wrestlers no matter who they are, yes I have my favorite and yes some I do not like but that's me and for me to choose.... Some wrestlers did not get the push as others and mayby some just were as comfortable with that or some just did not have that, let's go attitude, I hear an read alot about the WARRIOR!!! WARRIOR was very much in TUNE with the FANS, just like HULK HOGAN was very in TUNE with his fans!! It's all bout getting your FANS!! US fans have the most power, We let them know if they will be legends or not, we let them know who will go on or not, they may come up with the character's but we let them know if it's a bust or not! Hulk Hogan had the energy and the FANS LOVED HIM and still do! Just like warrior he came out and just exploded and the fans LOVED IT!! so each one has there own fans and there own energy!!
The story of the Warrior reminds me of the old saying, "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power." The ugliness of his character that he was so compelled to exhibit after gaining some fame as a pro wrestler still doesn't outweigh the joy I had as a kid watching that era of wrestling. Maybe he changed his ways? Unfortunately, he never made any public comment to affirm the transition of his thinking. O well. RIP Warrior. I am not going to judge you.
At the time of WM VI, the audience was ready for Hulkamania to be defeated. I know it looks weird the way it worked out. Most guys who were really over had long, successful careers. But from 1988-1991, the Ultimate Warrior was an insanely hot character. In April, 1990, he was the guy to beat Hogan, and it made perfect sense... at the time.

Lol hate on him all you want even Randy The Macho Man Savage liked Warrior. He was also liked by Honkytonk Man and a few others. Y'all act like he was total scumbag which he definitely wasn't, listen to his videos here on UA-cam and pretty much everything he says is true.
Strangely enough, Sid is the most coherent interview in this compilation.
#Irony
@Newrounder Absolutely no one kicked out of finishes back then unless it was something like the main event of WrestleMania. Sid had an issue with Warrior kicking out of his finish on house shows.
You must have stopped watching after Sid with that asinine statement..
Uhhh, love Brutus but come on 4:00 no one was booing the Warrior when he beat Hogan. The place was going nuts. You can hear it when you watch.
Yeah just look the video!!!
You do know that wwe changes the crowds reactions all the time, right? I don't know about this particular incident, but they've done it a lot in the past
Example?
He tried to say the honky tonk run in win was bs. Lmao ya right!!! Thats one of the all time great moments in wrestling

I don't really care much for Ultimate Warrior but Beefcake is full of himself. I was at the Skydome. When Ultimate Warrior won the match the place went absolutely bat snot insane for him!
the first thing i thought of when beefcake said the fans were booing was, imust be thinking of a differnet match.
He is just a Hogan CRONY
Beefcake is Hogan's wife
Your right they were also cheering for Hogan because real fans appreciated the fact he did the job for Jim. There were no boo's at all. Beefcake and ex-pac are 2 of the most full of shit wrestlers ever. Beefcake will put Hogan on a godly pedistal every time and ex-pac has been at every major event in wrestling sense 1945 lol
No you weren't, shut up
What I gathered from this video is that Ultimate Warrior was very well liked and fun to hang out with.
Just one of the boys

Sid was one of the greatest (looking) heels *ever*
God bless Marty Janetty. He legit cracks me up and lifts my mood.
Watch him tell a story about the iron shiek, one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard
Brutus Beefcake looks like a guy who "parties," which means he just drinks alone in his car listening to Whitesnake.
What’s wrong with that.
Hell yeah
Hit the nail on the ol Head there bud.
😂 😂
He looks like HE WAS IN whitesnake!
WARRIOR WAS NEVER OVER HE WAS A HOGAN WANNABE
Barry McDonough I don’t know where you were living or how old you were in the late 80s, but there was a stretch where Warrior was probably the most popular wrestler in the WWF.
@@barrymcdonough344 You need to never speak about wrestling again with that dumbass comment.
Brutus talking crap here, and Barry.
Warrior was massive! Bigger than most wrestlers at that time.
Warrior is the best ever. Forget everyone else. He made his own character and was totally different from anyone else....and he was his own man and made a lot of money.
Anytime a wrestler says "I'm not gonna dog the guy because he's dead" look out!
Right 😂
Well.. most of these were recorded before he died.. This is when Warrior was going on a verbal warpath on everyone..
@@invade81 awesome! I agree. Loved Roberts and Rude as well. Piper too.
I came around the time he was fading but he looked like a superhero .
I thought he should've been in Spiderman rather than a ring. Great design
Funny that all anyone can say about the warrior was his name and look because his wrestling skills were absolutely horrid and he was by far thee most overrated garbage wrestler to have ever existed..
Warrior marks are the same as Goldberg marks...
Just trapped in their childhood.
This is just a great video. Brings back the memories of watching these guys when I was a kid. I'd be glued to the tv on Saturday mornings.
"His rantings and ravens were that of a lunatic." Pure gold by Kevin Sullivan.
Raving good sir👌
Yeah, but those ranting & ravings turned him into a global mesgastar
Got to love Kevin Sullivan 😂😂😂
Jake The Snake stories are the best. He has so much swagger. The way he smirks when the "Room full of Snakes" came up.
Literally just got to that......"shuffle your feet"
Calm swag is a whole different type.
Flair's swag was a hyped up style.
Warrior's swag was maximized intensity...
But Jake had this calm intensity that would be very hard to fake. All 3 are legendary, so different, so awesome
Soon as searched for jake and read your response to see what those said. I laughed. I loved his impersonation of Jake.
They are great, but I'm not sure how much I believe him all of the time.
This story, I believe, as he's told it before. It's coherent enough to be true and he changes slight bits to account for memory drift, whereas if it was a lie, the story would either get more hugely embellished or stay exactly the same.
When did Brutus beefcake turn into the honky tonk man
about 200 pounds ago.
Haha
Hahaha right? I thought it was Honkey Tonk Man when he first came on.
@Dutch3k5 i'm so glad i'm not the only one that saw that lol

"He was oblivious to time." Fitting, really, on a cosmic level.
That Marty Jannetty story of Warrior sums the personality up so well.

Always thought that The Hammer was very underrated.
I agree. Valentine was one of the greats
Valentine could be thrown into any match with anyone and be credible as an opponent. Well, until he signed off on the Rhythm and Blues gimmick. The man could flat out work and the fans respected him.
I know Warrior has the personality of a brick wall.
Valentine, he was a great heel back in the day, he was always working.

Beefcake's take is the most delusional thing I've ever heard. I lived through the whole era and at his height, Beefcake was a sidecar talent at best with a haircut gimmick.
Intensity always sells if its done correctly. Warrior and Goldberg had it
Yeah, even Hogan said that people were more concerned with watching the loser leave the ring than with watching the winner get the belt.

The ugliness of his character that he was so compelled to exhibit after gaining some fame as a pro wrestler still doesn't outweigh the joy I had as a kid watching that era of wrestling. Also tattoo products have come a longggggggggg way from these guys days
Sounds like something a pussy would say .
Tattoos are super ghey. Usually pussies get them to try to look tough.
@@yankees29 Tattoos stopped being cool or unique dacades ago. Now you just look like a trashy annoying hipster.
Sid had the craziest sycho face ever, he was nuts🤣
I don't know Brutus, the crowd sounded pretty excited when Warrior beat Hogan at WM 6 (stunned maybe)! Amazing Jannetty story, he was trashed!
