That's not the real story, though. Actually Angle's neck was in perfect condition until that night. He hit The Hulkster a half dozen times with an aluminum baseball bat, but Hulk made him tap to a guillotine choke and broke his neck in the process. Angle shook his hand and said "Thank you Mr Hogan for teaching me some humility". Then before The Hulkster could leave the building he got a congratulatory phone call from Ronald Reagan.

He was trained to protect himself from shooters and fans. But he has said on numerous occasions that he wasn't a fighter and that this isn't a "tough guy" business. In his prime, a man that large with the experience he had would still be 100% formidable. Easily, the biggest class act I’ve ever worked against in my lifetime! Only real wrestling die hards will remember this lol: but when I wrestled Kurt angle at Bound for glory. It was a story in which I was supposed to go through every single main event mafia member one by one to build to get to me versus Kurt at Bound for glory. Which was Tna‘s version of wrestlemania at the time And on the day of the match after going through all of those other Hall of Famer’s one by one keep in mind and them doing the honors to help me keep in mind. Kurt, three separate times, went to Vince Russo and said to him “why would you not put Morgan over after building him this much throughout the year?“. And Russo‘s answer? “Because Bro, you’re wrestling AJ styles next month for the world championship and you need to come into that PPV , strong“. Tried another two different times in person to corner vince and tell him this is a terrible decision to have him go over on me. I’ll never forget that! As long as I live, I’ll never forget that. Sometimes the top guys in our business are selfish motherfuckers. And they only give a shit about themselves. Kurt? Completely opposite of that! If you left it up the Kurt, he would lose every single match to whoever the hell he was in the ring with him at the time. Because he understood, his overall staying power. He was in the business of trying to make other stars. Look no further than Desmond Wolf at the time when he was with us at Tna for my example. Just one of 100 others.
It was a terribly bad call by Russo at the time. But I’ll never forget Kurt going to bat for me three separate times right in front of my own face watching it happen. And those were the terrible calls that led to Tna’s demise ultimately back when we had the best chance we had with the roster we had, to really take it to WWE at the time. I would argue our roster back from 2007 right before Hogan and Bishop got there, was much better than Wwe’s. I know y’all think I’m crazy for saying that. But if you can pull up the roster from those years, I just explained raw and SmackDown roster where Jack swagger and shamus with champions on their various shows, come the fuck on. Not even debatable. for my money, Kurtz, one of the greatest of all time no question about it! Not just because what he did for me personally. But because what he was always willing to do for everybody that he saw the future in at the time and take the rocket that was always given to him every company he worked for, and try to help attach that same rocket to a town he thought should get it, though we had dumbass writers that would get in the way of it because their marks
    *
I’m using talk to text so if there’s any grammatical errors, hopefully have your Matt Morgan Decoder ring on you at the moment lol *
Any of you guys that watch Kurtz podcast, and if they allow you to ask questions live to Kurt? Ask him that specific question. He’ll tell it to you himself. He went to bat for me three separate times that day when we were in Anaheim, California for our bound for glory trying to do the right thing for a full year storyline in which booker T, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner , Sting, all eventually did the favors for me to build me to get to bountiful glory, a.k.a., our wrestlemania, versus Kangal, in which storyline wise, not being a mark for myself, should have had me beat him. But we have raiders that were marks for these legends, and never wanted to see them lose, continue to be in their good graces. Problem was, Kurtz not a mark for himself! And was completely against this from the minute he heard it when we got to the facility that day.

15:47 That’s something people don’t understand about Hogan. Vince didn’t say, “Hogan’s going to refuse.” He said, “He’s going to talk me out of it.” Hogan wasn’t like the Warrior who was equally egotistical but completely lacked tact and charm. If Warrior or Randy Savage refused to do something, it was sure to be a tantrum that turned everybody off. Hulk was a great politician. “He could refuse, piss off his boss, but leave you with enough faith in him that maybe your idea wasn’t all that great to begin with. Even Vince believed that “He’s Hulk Hogan fer cryin’ out loud. He’s not an idiot.”
If you think about it, “That doesn’t work for me, brother”, is a brilliant line. What would another wrestler say? They’d scream, curse up a storm, stomp away.

There’s a reason Hogan gets these crazy crowds at 71. He knows when to turn it on and off, when to say yes and no, and when to play the game.
Warrior didn’t. He’d go to autograph sessions and grumble. People don’t have good memories of dealing with him.
Hulk was the first wrestler to understand that no one gives a shit if you can fight in a board room. That’s why he and WWF got enormous

I don’t know why so many people clown on Kurt by calling him “Perc angle”. Drug addiction is an awful thing. And unlike most addicts, Kurt was in excruciating pain. Like he didn’t just start taking pain pills for the fun of it. Dude was wrestling with a fractured neck and other health issues.
I actually feel bad for wrestlers since their job literally puts them in pain. To the point that most of them end up needing pain killers just to get through the day.
However those same meds are absolutely poisonous and can form an addiction instantly. And unlike other drugs many people hooked on opioids aren’t taking them to get high. They are trapped in a vicious cycle where the only way to stop horrible withdrawals is to just pop another pill.
In fact most opioid users can’t even get high since the tolerance build up becomes so strong that they are basically taking pills just to feel normal and keep the withdrawals away.
Not everyone has 2 weeks to be deadly sick. Withdrawals interrupts your job or family life. So that’s why many just keep
Pushing them off by taking more. That and withdrawing off them is an awful experience. Imagine having the worst flu that won’t go away for 10 to 14 days. It’s miserable.
Point being I just feel a lot of empathy for Kurt. Him putting his body on the line for our entertainment is what caused him to need pills. But then those same meds take a horrible hold on you even if you take them responsibly.
So I just feel bad when people constantly remind him of one of the darkest times in his life with memes.

That being said not one sport have major injuries like wrestling it’s not debatable even if matches are fixed ( boxing, ufc ) it’s entertainment at their own risks so I respect what they do. To end I certainly appreciate the honesty from them after retirement because I stopped watching when the Hitman got screwed by Vince the “alleged” predator.
