Very humbled of you to share this Greg is a Legend !!

Wrestle DON'T INSULT THE WORD!

I met him at a Ace Frehley concert in NYC, and I went up to him and said, how you doing Champ? He was all smiles when I said that. He gave me a handshake and this guy is built like a tank. To me, he is one of the best IC champs ever
When I was a kid I liked watching Valentine wrestle. Lots of good matches. He was a machine. Not as big as some of the other wrestlers, but tough!
Valentine and Beefcake were my favorite team as a kid
Greg was a gravy train off his old man. Johnny was AWESOME and I loved watching him beat the sh#t out of Fritz Von Erich.
Figure 4 leg lock! What a submission hold by the hammer
@@carlryan608 That was always a great move / Finisher! 👍
@@carlryan608 He copied Flair. Dude gravy trained his old man Johnny who was an AWESOME wrestler. Kicked Old Man Von Erich's ass every time they wrestled a FAIR match that wasn't rigged.
The Greg Valentine/Tito Santana rivalry was one of the best ever!!
Valentine promos/interviews are classic
Freaking blood baths with those two
Valentine and Chief Jay Strongbow in WWWF was epic as well
@@HoboDave12 His matches with Wahoo McDaniel were bloody as hell
Tito Santana lived in my town, after wrestling he had a hair salon in the next town over. Met him several times. Super nice and very humble guy.
I worked in Tyrone Mall in St Pete years ago & would see Greg with his granddaughter there & would talk with him while she ran amuck in a store. Enjoyed it because he’s real people, and treats others that way.
Used to go there when there wasn't a mall. Just Sears. They built the mall onto the Sears store. 😁
Ate dinner with him and his wife at a sushi restaurant in Madeira Beach Florida back around 2003 , 2004... really nice down to earth guy talk to me and my wife the whole time
He's my uncle. If you liked him you would've loved my grandpa.

You know a territory-era wrestler when he refers to the WWF as "New York" and GCW as "Atlanta." Love it.
Yeah, Yankee crap and Southern good stuff.
The old school territory guys are the best wrestlers and always have the best stories.
The "Hammer" was right, I respected the Road Warriors, but like "The Hammer" said, you couldn't have them wrestle for extended periods of time because of their limited amount of wrestling moves. Overall, I preferred WWF over the other wrestling territories, but I liked wrestling better when they had the territories. I have almost ignored wrestling once everything merged into one WWE.
Those were the days and they are sadly long gone
WWF and WCW have always been referred to by those respective towns
The Hammer was so underrated. Such a solid wrestler and able to sell creative story lines. Easily in my top 10 of all time.
Greg is still married to the same woman since 83!? good for them. I like Greg even more.
Me too 👍
Flair had a crush on Greg's wife while he was married to Beth.
Im 42 n this coming year will b our 25th anniversary married with the same women n Thank God everyday Im a very lucky guy
@@andrescatelan6474 who are you?

Valentine was a glue guy. With all the gimmicks and such the WWF needed wrestlers who could wrestle to counter balance the gimmicks and create matches people would want to see more of. He was one of the best at that.
Valentine has one hell of an memory. He had a long career and he remember almost everything even timelines💯💯
This man needs propers for keeping a marriage alive for 50 years in the wrestling industry.
Kyle, you are damn right
No kidding.
He's now one of my favorite wrestlers. Was never a fan before I knew this.
It's like droz, he's just a good dude. D lo brown broke his neck and paralyzed him (droz dorsnt feel this way. He says it was his mistake.). And the very first thing he could say to anyone was to d lo to not feel bad. They're friends to this day. Thibk about that for a second.
Beyond amazing considering all the rats and crazy shit going on
You're right... They pretty much went on tour like rock stars, being away from home for long stretches at a time.
I met Greg at a small gym in North Carolina, mick foley and the freebirds was there. This guy is a class act.Hammer Hammer Hammer!
Greg Valentine wasn't the wrestler you wanted to see, he was the wrestler you needed to see.....Just so solid in the ring. You couldn't ask for a better all around, Jack of all Trades type. To this day, nobody can make an elbow drop look as good as 'the Hammer'
Greg was a true old school shoot wrestler, as was his Father the great Johnny Valentine. Love this guy!
I used to see Greg all the time at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles.
Iconic and certainly one of a kind..
NO DOUBT.
It's nice to see a veteran wrestler who isn't completely bitter and hateful towards most everyone they worked with. Hearing him say how he's still good friends with a lot of the guys is very cool. He seems like a humble guy who just did his best to get along with everyone.
Greg the hammer Valentine looks like a real sincere guy 👏 . I use to do his moves when I was a kid and kept a toy wrestler that I found on the street. My parents were poor and only purchased clothes from second hand store or the bins in Alexander Department store. I would of like to thank this guy in person.
Greg looks great to be 69 years old with a full line of hair
And he's still alive

Met Greg when I was 15 very down to earth man and friendly.
Greg was such a solid heel back in the day. People like Greg, Don Muraco, Bob Ortin ,Adrian Adonis, Stan Hansen and the list goes, we’re such compelling heels and made the product almost seem real. Greg worked a couple of programs with Bob Backlund ,at MSG, that were absolute, kayfabe, golden year masterpieces. The best days of the WWWF......
Valentine and Muraco and so underrated. Solid heels and performers.
Still married and in love... many blessings to you both
Hammer!! One of the all-time greats.
Talk about a legend! The first time I saw Greg was in the early 80s on WWE TV managed by the late, great Grand Wizard of Wrestling!
Mcmaaaaaahon!
Ernie Roth was great. They don't make them like that anymore.
@@MrK623 He was very cool and always dressed in style!
Hated this guy as a Kid, but he seems like a cool down to earth dude !!!!! Great Heel !!!!!!
Well if u hated Greg when you were a kid he did his job as. Wrestler
Same here, I hated Arn Anderson too in my youth. Love them both now.
@@chrisdriver2178 I totally agree. If only wrestlers today could do that !!!!

I never noticed Valentine as a 'smaller' wrestler dude. When he came on TV, it was . . cool man . . 'Greg the Hammer Valentine,' which meant a guaranteed win by the figure 4 leg lock. I don't think I ever saw Valentine lose on Saturday morning WWF. But I have to say, he was a 'villain,' and I liked guys like McGraw, Snuka, and Backlund. Wow. Those were the days, being a kid and you could watch cartoons til 11AM or noon, and then it was pro wrestling.
Saturday morning was the best in NYC area wrestling nwa was on at 8 am 9 am wccw 10 am wwf ..11am awa 12 noon glow then 6 to 8 nwa on tbs then 1x a month Saturday nites main event..then sports radio 66 wfan. had there wresting show with Jodi mac life was great 👍
Old man hair goals.
Underrated. He was a staple for so long and always did business right. Makes a lot of sense him and Hogan are buddies. Similar mindsets.
Always loved The Hammer. First saw him tagging with Flair, late 70s, mid-Atlantic. What a heel!
Same here and with Bob Caudill as the announcer I believe
That does ring a bell. Timekeeper’s bell. One more piece of fun, but useless info. Sting and Ultimate Warrior were a tag team known as The Blade Runners.
i saw Flair/Valentine take on Steamboat/Youngblood at the Richmond Coliseum 1980 for my 14th birthday also remember Paul Jones tagging with Baron Von Raschke got to see a few future legends that night... Snuka, Orndorff, Ken Patera... one of my best birthdays
Early 80s. Valentine and Strongbow at Boston Garden. Took the Chief out on a stretcher. Good times.
Figure four leglock!!
I met the hammer in person. He has a very strong handshake. Saw him and Jake The Snake in 1998 at a BBOW event in Missoula Montana at the Dahlberg Arena. Also saw Doink, One Man Gang, and Michael PS Hayes and one of the other freebirds too. Jake and Greg were both class acts despite being on something. I remember Jake after the show was in the parking lot with Greg pissing into a bucket before getting into an older RV. WIsh I could have met Jake but he was not meeting anyone or signing any autographs at all then.
Greg Valentine was a Wrestlers wrestler , Master of the Art, Inherited from his Father/Trainer and The Hart's, I Could Understand Why Greg Valentine Had Problems with Otherb Wrestlers because Many of them Are Transplants from other Sports like Football, Bodybuilding, Bouncers , Singers/ musician like Hogan
Such a laid back storyteller. Could listen to him all day.
Man, some of the names he mentioned in this video brought back some fond childhood memories. I was never into team sports as a kid, but damn if I didn't make sure to watch WWF matches every chance I got.
Before the availability of old wrestling videos on UA-cam, I had no idea Valentine and Flair were a tag team.
I loved this dude when I was a kid!!! The hammer!!
I had lunch with Greg once. Real easy going guy.
West Milford high school in 1984. He wrestled Tito Santana and I followed him to his Caddy in the parking lot. And I actually shook hands with him. Incredibly nice guy. Couldn't believe it. Kinda changed my attitude towards heel wrestlers
Always loved The Hammer.....
Greg Valentine was Hulk Hogan’s opponent when he was on the A-Team That’s high praise
He never changed legend
In 1977 my buddy put another friend of mine in a figure 4 leg lock.
There was begging for mercy going on.
We laughed our ass off
The Hammer and Piper were my guys back in the day. They were friggin tough and legit real entertaining wrestling to watch.
The Hammer could make you look really good or put you out cold.
🤘❤🇨🇦
He was in Buffalo New York three years ago still wrestling
Greg The Hammer Valentine!!!A Class Act!!!
Mr. Valentine! I’m happy that you are still married to the same woman Mrs. Julie Valentine! Congratulations!!
Always enjoyed the The Hammer vs Rugged Ronnie Garvin rivalry. Stiff as hell.
That is my favorite one and most memorable one.
So underappreciated feud The Hammer Vs Garvin , great matches.
Mad dog was a very close friend of mine and I miss him, he was truly a father figure to me. I was only 5 years old when i first seen him In Illinois, Mad Dog and the Crusher.
I remember when Brutus the Barber tried to cut the Hammers gold locks off. It meant War ! What a show !
one of the few wrestlers that I honestly think is shooting straight when telling a story
As a kid I loved watching Greg "The Hammer" Valentine wrestle, even though he played the bad guy he was technically sound in the ring.
Coincidentally, my first ever trip to Florida was via People Express airlines (now part of UAL via Continental) back in the early 80s. Good clip.
Love the Hammer.
Greg Valentine's hair is still on point.
Always liked the Hammer!
Intresting Guy to listen to. Good interviewer
Nice to see The Hammer. I remember him. Brutal wrestler.
Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine
Yet another Legend the WWE treats like crap. This man should be training the next Generation, he is a Master technician and has the Heel Psychology that today's Wrestlers sadly lack.
I met him when he was in NY. What a nice, down to earth guy. I had to double take a bunch of times before I approached him. He just didn't come off like some celeb or some pompous narcissist. No, he was the real deal. Really great guy.
They showed clips of Hogan Vs Valentine from the Spectrum in his episode of the A-Team........great match!
Everytime I see Greg I can only think of the Mean Gene blooper video with him. PASS THE F##KING POTATOES LOL look it up if you haven't
Saw The Hammer get into it with a fan as he was entering the ring during a show in Lowell, MA in the mid-80s. Guy slapped The Hammer who laid the clown out with one shot, then proceeded to the ring for his match like nothing happened.
Wow great story!
This is one of the rare times I hear someone say something nice about terry bollea " hulk hogan ".
Why is he the only legend who doesn't dress like a homeless person?
Him and flair
It's because he likes to style and profile like the Nature Boy Ric Flair
Somehow hes more recognizable in a well dressed suit.if I had seen him in normal clothes I'd say who is that
Its his Sundays best! and coffin clothes all in one... a suit for all occasions!
he wears the homeless look on his face
Thanks for the memories Greg👊
Fayetteville, NC on the check in! 🙌🏾
Damn he still alive, wow he put so many people over. Wow
When I was a kid I met Johnny Valentine at my fathers business in Houston. He amazed us by dropping a half dollar through his wedding ring. I have never seen hands that big . Like Paul Bosch said he was a rugged individual.
Met him at Powerhouse gym Seattle in the early 90s. They were in town for a match. Warrior, Hercules Hernandez, Hennig, Lex.. whole bunch of them, except Hogan
Greg Valentine fan for life
Those wwf stars from the first wrestlemania kicked it. They ran the wrestling world
LOL @ People's Express. My first time ever flying in 1985, I flew People's Express from Newark to Los Angeles. It left at 3 AM and arrived at 6 AM.
Finally somebody had something nice to say about Hogan
This guy came to my FOB in Iraq and hung out and met with soldier's, they had the Saint Louis Rams Cheerleaders there and no one gave a fuck everybody wanted to meet him.
Best faceplant in the business!
The Hammer was always one of my faves!!
Dude bleaches his hair into his 70's.
That's some serious effort.
The Atlanta that Hammer is referring to is Georgia Championship Wrestling before the Briscos sold their stake to Vince and went to work for Vince. Jim Crockett Promotions(Charlotte)was also on TBS at the time. They ended up losing their time slot on TBS when WWF bought GCW. To get back on TBS Crockett bought GCW from Vince. So in a way the Crocketts inadvertently helped fund Wrestlemania 1.
Greg is a solid man
Valentine is the f-ing best! He reminds me of my old alcoholic Grandma! Ironically, her nickname was the Hammer as well.
I saw Hulk defend against Valentine at the Capital Centre in September 1985, a rare main event for Valentine, who lived in the DC area. Same like he says, old school, drawn out, long , yet exciting, even bout, with Greg getting 2 and 3/4 counts on Hulk. Much better than most cookie cutter Hogan defenses at the time.
Gregg is a real Brother , Brother !
Greg the hammer valentine was a beast in his days .
He played the villain so well.
What a legend
Nobody mentions the Hammer's greatest submission move outside of the Iron Sheik's Camel Clutch: THE FIGURE FOUR LEG LOCK!
This guy's badass....no doubt.
Mr. Valentine is an awesome storyteller 😎
Greg the Hammer. My boy !
Was on SWA flight and Greg is walking down aisle carrying briefcase , I point at him give him thumbs up 👍 he sees me and puts finger to lips , like shhhs !
THIS MANS GENERATION OF WRESTLING ALL STARTED IN AND AROUND MY HOME TOWN. THE STORIES MY GRANDADDY'S TOLD ME OF RIC FLAIR AND DUSTY RHODES AND MY MOM REMEMBERING HOW BIG BLACK JACK MULLIGAN WAS.
I met Greg In Las Vegas at good guys auto
Man we talked for about a half a day
Great fucking guy
🔥 one up
Good day
Was a huge fan of His Dad Johnny Valentine an the Hammer also.
I ONLY watch the Greg videos with his commentary.... almost every other wrestler is FULL OF IT.
Calm down, mark
Valentine only had one match against the Road Warriors? Wow. I could have sworn I saw a match between the LOD and Rhythm & Blues on a Coliseum Video tape. I guess not.
I've never seen a pic or video of Valentine where he doesn't look like he could whoop some ass.
@@paws_offury absolutely.
Hogan and Valentine had a wicked match in Philadelphia I think. One of Hogan's best.

So happy ICP gave him exposure to a new audience.
At least they knew the headlock.
