2005 Cadillac CTS V Long Term Review

- I have had my CTS V for a year now so I am posting a quick review of it. Overall I love this car, however, I go over a few of its weak points in the video. The only racing I do is autocross. My CTS V has the C5 z06 engine, the ls6, and it has been a glorious motor! Loads of torque at any gear and my V has never felt a lack in the power department.
Upon further research I found out that my reverse issue is due to a design flaw with the tremec T56 transmission. The motion of the shifter fork for reverse does not carry out far enough to fully engage the reverse gears. This can go unnoticed until enough wear is done and then you will find it difficult to use. I found good videos to fix this issue and I plan on doing it soon.
Check out my CTS V autocross videos!
Nice review. My 07 has never popped out of reverse, but getting it there is another story. Might try that hurst.
I have a 2005 v1 my self been my daily driver for the last 2 years I've put 50k of my own miles on the car since i bought it back in 2016 it now has 191,000 miles! Still runs like a beast! Still get 23mpg on the hwy! I swear by this car! If I need to go 2000 miles away from PA to CA i would hop in the v and go wouldent think twice about it!
Sounds like it's really reliable? Is it a car that you can work on yourself?
@@uriahaaron5177 yes it is! i can change the radiator in under a hour! Altenator is a little difficult to get too if you dont want to pull the radiator its dueable though very easy to work on for the most part
@@jontay2002 Awesome! Thank you for the quick reply! Am looking at getting one of these sexy beasts but that rear diff though.. Whatcha think of the 06 stsv?
Hows she treating you now a year later? Any issues($700+) at that age and mileage since your comment? Hows the interior holding up? Any hanging or cracking? Have a great day
Love the red! I've never had reverse pop out of gear but it is hard to engage. I have the creative steel short throw and stage two clutch. Love the V1s
Yo mane i know its old video but i got my 2006 v 3 years ago(around time video was posted) and you summed it up, i actually gained confidence from your video cause have had repairs recently (pilot bearing, pressure plate) & wanted to check reviews & honestly it is a great car & is reliable (if you dont jus hammer it) it is a cadillac so when something (anything) does go wrong it is pricey as a sports car should be ($500 to $1200/2000 including labor) but every video ive seen the good heavily out ways bad & everyone loves a cadillac wit a v8 & a great convo piece when they say “its stick!?” But never seen red/maroon before & your video was spot on as in its completely badass & have trouble hating on it besides what known already, i never comment but hope youre doin well & hope youre furry pal is too, ik its 3 years later and hundred comments but from indiana black v owner, i send my love.
Going to try to get financing for a 2005 ctsv tomorrow. Wish me luck
How'd it go? I financed mine back in November, didn't have an issue.
How did it go?
Well? Did you get it?
same trading my auto cts for a V
Did you get it?
Came for the car review; stayed for the puppy. XD
Too bad your selling, just got mine about 6 months ago and love it! Yours looks very well taken care of, good job! - Mo
Yeahh, I decided that I would really regret selling it if I did so I decided to keep this beauty!
It's a keeper! I'm not letting mine go eva! - Mo
Spectro Racing yea i love the dog in the back scratchin the seats lol
A full size spare with oem jack from a cts will fit perfect in the storage bin in the trunk. That’s what I did when I had a V1.
Only problem is v is 6 lug and regular cts is not
@@josephmorgan4108 I should’ve been more clear: find a “loose” oem 6 lug wheel for sale and use that as your spare
I own 5 he 2005 ctsv never had an issue with shifter popping out of reverse. I did however end up , upgrading motor mounts! Love ctsv!!
i had a 2006 CTS-V. Blew the diff up shortly after camming the car and went through multiple axles within the year i owned it. cut my losses quick and got myself a camaro instead. GM messed up and should have put better parts in the car instead of taking short cuts. other than that it was a good car.
What does your car run on the quarter mile? And is that sea level?
Where did you get those hood vents please a link 🙏🏼
I have an option to buy one of these with 147k miles on body and 85k on engine for $6500. I'm still saving up money but it my buddy at work. My original plan was a ls1 trans am
Did you buy it
My 2004 cts I need to no if I have a leaking rear differential can I just replace the seals is it good to drive it when its leaking but not on ground
Where you get that hood from? I have a 06 ctsv and I agree the stock shifter are trash upgrading mines pretty soon
The previous owner had it installed. I believe it is from extreme composites. It's been good and it's really light but the rise in the hood does block the windshield wipers from folding up unless you move them partway up the window.
Cloud10Adventures thanks I appreciate it bro and I really love how it looks
Cloud10Adventures I was just about to ask the same question, I have a black 2004 CTSV
I like the hood...who makes?
Astounding example of the English language
is that a stock grille if not what kind is it
Is this car lighter than a challenger srt8
Yes
im so tempted to buy one of these but im weary about the diff since i have heard the diff sucks and one should upgrade it.
yeah, if you get one it needs a diff swap to fool around. If you're not planning on smoking the tires you will be ok. It is sad though to not be able to do one.
I am not really planning on smoking tires too much, im just needing a LS car to pratice HP tuners, but i have always wanted a CTSV but my dream or one of my dream cars is the CTS V wagon. but those are so rare and expensive.
Oh yeah those are sweet!
Cloud10Adventures I have just always admired that unique crazy wagon Corvette powered station wagon. Wagons are coming back now a days, at the Dallas auto show in March they had a Jaguar wagon and a Buick wagon.
My buddy has a 2005 cts v with 147k on body and 85k on engine. Its a salvage title. I drives it spirited of course. He is still on the stock rear diff. He has cai, x pipe, and straight pipe muffler delete. I'm considering buying it from him. He is asking 6500.
How much did you get it for ? I'm looking to get one
i bought it for around $12,000 and just recently sold it for $11,250 with just over 180K miles.
Dammm im in houston texas i got mine for 4500 cash 3.6 lt 2004 cts
Victor Herrera lmao.. that's a $1,000 car bro.. there's a BIG difference between the base model and the v ..
Gave 5590 including tagging it 71k miles cammed, kooks longtubes,tb,ls7 clutch kit, 2 owner zero crashes. 5 diffs and muiltable axles later I'm still content
@@cloud10adventures19 Why'd u sell it was there problems with it or just wanted a different car im 18 tryna get one for my 20th birthday
Bro I have an 04 and I hate the cup holder issue it gets in the way of shifting well for me it does
I've never had issues with reverse in my v that I've owned for 5 years now. the stock shifter I agree is a turd, the radio buttons suck.... the main one is the diff. I'm still on the original one, but it scares the crap out of me haha
Yeah same for me! I wish the diff swap kits were cheaper on these cars.
I want one, but what happened with the timing chain
I have no idea, it was before I bought the car. All i know is that it failed and the motor was replaced by the dealership. The previous owner could not pay for the repair and the car was forfeited.
Nice car I got the same year/color/inturior. Love it. I got a maggie on my car with the beefed up Creative Steel Ford 8.8 rear. If you can certainly look into it for you V. Nice car and be sure to check out my videos!
I have a cts v ls6 and reverse doesn't ever pop out i have also never broke a diff or axles i do drift it side ways but not in a straight line cause of wheel hope but soon to get the 8.8 diff btw nice looking V
HOLY NOSTRILS
What the heck is this Band?
My 08 its 100%
There never was an '08 CTS-V.
I love the super sport buttom
I got a 04 GTO and just looked up both cars weight. The GTO is only 125 pounds lightier lol
So timing chain are a issue
After about 150k, you'd be advised to install new one depending on how the car was treated in the past.
They upgraded the dif in 2006 from what i understand.
Finding parts is a pain in the rear
You know if your car pops out of gear it’s most likely the synchro and/or the gear itself
Bro, i found you! LMAO. I sold him this car. Fuckin nice huh :D Check out my Vids and you'll see some of the others ive had. Also, I agree. I build these and sell them. Best car ever. I can answer ANY question about these vehicles if yall have one, just ask.
Austin Auto Post what to look for when purchasing a used 2008?
2008? That would be a second generation. But im currently selling my fully built one: ua-cam.com/video/ZEKH3HH_dUo/v-deo.html
The tail lights fall out in summer lol
How? Mine have 2 10mm nuts.
I know, who cares on a car like this, but hows the fuel economy on this thing LOL
I got around 22 highway in mine.
Cloud10Adventures how about city tho? Thinking of getting one as a daily, dont need another garage queen
The fuel economy is very questionable i’d assume.
Like the motor hate the car
