- Welcome to another edition of pet peeves/rants/things that annoy me - artist edition! Obviously this is from the perspective of an illustrator/animator and there are many other forms of art with entirely different problems, this is just my list of 8 things that (most) artists hate, so if you have anything to add feel free to drop it in the comments! :D

Storm Brewed Noodles that is true pain, my friend
@@Jazzsics a fellow artist, I commend your resilience.
oh nooooooooooo, such pain and suffering! TnT
Storm Brewed Noodles
Aah thats so true 😂
Whew, thank god I'm a girl ;)
"How do you able to draw like that?"
"I practice"
"Some people are just born with talent"
"I said I practice"
"I bet I won't be good at this ever"
"PRACTICE!!"
I once got asked about this and when I told them how bad I used to be and that I just practiced all the time, they said they would never be good since they had already practiced for weeks and hadn't made much progress. WEEKS!!! Like I know it might make people impatient but art takes years to develop and even after about 4 years of drawing with the goal of improving, I'm barely "intermediate" (in my own evaluation according to my goals) even though I consider myself a fast learner.
@@ellafox382 yeah I totally agree. I get constantly into situations like that I am always like "bruh, practice means years and not weeks"
I started drawing before i even started studying
PRACTICE
Just cuz' ya started last week it doesn't mean yer gettin any better
so frikkin true
my mothers just like "oh im so glad GOD gave you this amazing talent to draw" "no mom i practiced for years, the first thing i was happy about drawing was a stick figure" "nope, you better thank jesus for your gift" smdh
Looking at my old art is my worst nightmare, I look at it and younger me thinks "ye this is good"
Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Younger you was proud of those pieces.
Imagine if they gave up on art because it didn’t look good. You wouldn’t be where you are now.
Laugh at your old art, but find positive aspects of it too. They were made by you, remember.
Love yourself ✨
Fr
@@LeoparDusk this is true
But I want to add this if you don’t see your mistakes you’ll never improve them but you should still love yourself like you said thanks for putting that out there
This just shows that you have improved over time 💜 the fact you can be critical of your previous work displays your personal progress
I cringe at my teenage work alot lol
That's good. If you go and think of the million ways to fix that drawing and know how to, it means you improved. If something you made a long time ago still looks good, (in one part or the whole) it means you didn't improve much or at all in that aspect of the drawing. Laugh at that art and know how much you were able to get so much better.
My artist horror story: Random people trying to grab my sketch book and look though it. “Is it a diary?? OOH YOU MUST’VE DRAWN INAPPROPRIATE STUFF! HEY! SHE DREW INAPPROPRIATE STUFF!” Like bro- no- I just don’t want to show you my art💀
Fr!
Just because someone has boundaries doesn't mean you did something bad for not showing it.
That's like saying "I don't want to tell you where I live"
"Oh, you must've murdered someone then.
Hey police! He won't doxx himself so he must've committed crimes!"
That's happened to me last year, a friend of mine tried to look through my sketchbook (which was this small little notebook from the dollar tree) and he wasn't respecting my boundaries with it and asked if I drew anything inappropriate, very uncomfortable moment
That happens with my tablet like my Sister and my cousin want to see whats in there and then i say"no i dont want to show you" and then theyre like "oh you dont want to show us bc u got inappropriate stuff?" And then my minds like"gurl i just want to have some privacy"💀
SAME!!!
When everything in your sketchbook sucks, then you draw a "masterpiece" on a random piece of notebook paper at school.
😅yeah
Prrrrrreeach
Edit: this actually happens so much that the first four pages in my sketchbook are pieces of paper that I drew on during school taped inside lol
Relatable...
I feel you
Happens way too often
"When someone tells you that art is not a career and you should be focusing on a real job..."
-Artist problems #1
Me: THEN HOW DO I GET UP GO TO WHERE I DRAW MAKE MONEY LIKE A JOB HMMMMMMM??!!!!!
"You cant get a job if you keep drawing"
First if all, I already have a job and you dont so dont tell me what I can and can't do with art
My parents always say that to me... I'd love to work with digital art and/or music, and they always say "it's your life and your choice" but don't support me at what I want to do at all T~T
My parents always tell me that
Its my problem at school in general ;-; no course for art, the closest is architect
when I was about 9 or 10 I had a really thick drawing book where i kept ALL my drawings, yes all the cringy 2018 drawings. One day in school I went to the bathroom and when I came back three boys were looking through the book. They were laughing and showing it off to the rest of the class. And there was this girl who asked me to draw her multiple times so there were drawings of her in that notebook. For the rest of that year people thought I liked her, and till this day I don’t understand where the teacher was at that moment.
I'm sorry :(
sorry
This just proves how bad high school really is
@@willstewart3391 but she was 9-10....???
that is very sad
At school people would watch me draw I would feel very uncomfortable about people looking at my original characters. I don’t know if this actually happened or not but I think one time someone showed my artwork to the entire class and I felt super embarrassed.
I like drawing random suff, often i draw Stands from JoJo's, and when people ask me "what are you drawing? That's beautifull!" I have no clue of what to say.
@@user-ld8lw7ff7o That is the perfectionist side of your mind.
In 3rd grade, this happened to me.
I learned my lesson and covered my drawing if anybody got even close to me.
I hate this I always get so tense and I have to keep on erasing because I’m making so many mistakes
I was forced to show the class my art, the one time. the ONE FRIKING TIME my friend said, "Didn't you used to be a furry?" that was the worst. I don't have a hate towards furries, but my classmates sure do😭
Problem 1: The other eye
Problem 2: Hands
Problem 3: THE OTHER DAMN EYE

And can't find which one it was
omg fr
Yup be done that, I was like_ WERE DID I PUT THAT?
LOL dog we share a spiritual connection.
this is why i like GIMP. you can group layers. you can group layer groups too. if you hide the group itself and the dot disappears, you have narrowed it down to that group. if it's not in front of anything that is also in that group, you can select that entire group and erase just the dot, and it'll actually work. i think it's a later version, so if your version doesn't have it, it will if you update. if you don't have GIMP, it's free if you want it. don't worry about google results. i was worried too, but as long as you have safesearch on, it wont give bdsm results. if you don't know what that is, good.
Omg yes
The deadly special effects layer
Scary fact: Once I forgot how to draw completely for 5 months and I had to practice drawing all over again
Oof size large
my god.
that is honestly scary, just.. forgetting not just a memory, but an actual skill. and not being able to remember it.
This has happened to me, I just forget how to draw in my style and have to figure it out again.
I would just end up dying at that point, but that's just me
my artist nightmare is when a drawing I worked on for hours gets done, and then I show it to my friends or post it on twitter, and no one responds, not even a simple “nice”
Would a long “oooooooo” where each “o” it gets higher pitch

Art theft (god)
LMAO
I was drawing a human so I started off with the basic foundation stuff and the person next to me goes, "Why are you drawing cylinders in the shape of the human? Can't you just make the outline and then add details?"
I'm a human, I can't envision what that would look like and be able to perfectly replicate what I am thinking of onto a peice of paper.
i've been sketching pretty much ever since i started drawing
a former friend of mine kept complaining about how her art looks so shitty compared to mine and i kept reminding her that 1. i've been drawing since kindergarten and 2. she doesn't sketch, does chicken steps and should sketch first to actually know where the limbs and clothes go ffs
her reply was always *"i CaNt SkEtCh!1!1!1!"* and i actually wanted to strangle her for it
My friend draws animes without sketching, and she’s like, 10
I have no idea how she does it....
Salty Waffles we all have that friend
Salty Waffles is her name Hannah? I have a friend that can draw anime without sketching.

Mine isn’t and we’re doing abstract art which (if you haven’t done it) is super difficult and you double that for ADHD and double it because i put high expectations on myself, I went through like 5 fully finished artworks before getting one I was OK with and I just stuck to a gay-coloured camouflage hippopotamus

These hit waaaayyyy too close to home 😭 does that mean after 19 years of drawing I truly AM an artist?
Congratulations
Yes (i think)
You're an artist the second you think/say you are an artist. Jesus, Damien Hirst pickled a shark, Slapped "the implausability of smeg" (or whatever it's called) on the tank and people flock to cogratulate the guy. I do the same to the neighbors Pomeranian and I'm "a monster". Art is subjective. (Don't panic, the dog story is a joke lol)
When ppl say
*”Is an artist even a job?”*
f a c t s, if youtube can be a job why cant art be one too =3=
Yo my brother said artists only get a penny. *and me being dumb back then believed that and stopped drawing for a while*
IMDEADINSIDE_1000 my uncle is actually an artist and he gets a couple thousand dollars per painting. Dont listen to what other people say. If you pursue the things you want to do in life, you could get recognized for your passions. Anyways, you can still be an artist. Practice makes Improvement, thats all that matters! ☺️
who on earth
If someone ever says that to me I’m going to throw them off a cliff.
Ever had a impulse to draw. Except you had no idea what to do. So you just STARE at the paper.
Happens to my beginner artist mind all the time.
This happens to me too often...
that happens so often aaahh
All the time. Sometimes I doodle little stick figures and immediately erase them, which only adds to the desire to draw something cool...
Happens to me too ;-;
Yep. I just stare blankly at my paper and I just get bored so I draw a crummy version of my fursona.
My horror art story…
I’ve been drawing for 5 years and I’ve had so much improvements. I have a whole safe full of art that I made or traced. In 6th grade I had this really cool and complicated character design that I made. I read one comment where someone said that people drew over a drawing. This basically happened to my character. Some random person in my class went through my sketchbook while I was in the bathroom and coloured this specific drawing that took months to make. Thank god I had a picture of it to trace again. The reason I have a safe for my art is because of my cat. She is a chewer and has a taste for paper. Recently I found a piece I made and colored and inked in the floor torn to shreds. Now I always make sure my art is in the safe. My last art horror story was during an art competition for my school. A girl seen what I was drawing and decided to copy it. Since her drawing style was much better than mine, everyone thought she was the original maker and I got disqualified. I don’t draw in public or throw away my pieces without ripping them up now.
im a ca therian and i eat paper so uhh is ur cat ded cuz i might be ur cat somehow
Moral of the story: people can die in a ditch
Just now I finished an art piece that i was very proud of,and I leave for 1 SECOND to get water and my brother goes and takes a huge marker and writes all over it
and imagine it being the only thing that took you the longest
kill him
i feel so bad for u
That happened to me before, but at school. See, I was drawing an awesome poster, markers, lineart, the whole shaboodle.
Then I leave it at my desk to go get some water in my water bottle, and when I come back-
SOMEONE TOOK IT AND RIPPED A THREE INCH HOLE IN THE MIDDLE! I might have gotten in trouble that day.
which is another rant about how school treats situations like this- that'd be too long tho so yeh :P
I hate those types of people
“Did you draw that”
No. I’ve been sitting here for hours staring at someone else’s art
Edit: guys please you're killing my notifications
Omg xD
Oml yes
I know, right? I HATE that question. This is how that conversation always goes:
Me: **quietly drawing something**
Them:**Looking over my shoulder** Did you draw that?
Me: Yes
Them: Cool
Me: **continuing to draw**
Them: What is it?
Me: **gives a complicated and long description of the character**
Them: Okay
And then they leave
It happens literally every time I draw something in anywhere besides my bedroom.
I swear
O o f
Drawing on the wrong layer and only noticing later in the drawing
Time to make a new layer and trace over the old ones.
I did this yesterday AND it was a one line challenge 😖

IT'S FRICKING EASIER LIKE- JDHSGDBWNWJ THEY AIN'T EVER TRYED IT, PAPER AND PENCIL BE EXPENSIVE qwq
@@angelakitchens5912 Neither is easier, it just depends on the person. I find traditional art easier because I can rest my hand, look at one point, digital art is harder but it's easier to make good drawings because you can edit/color and get whatever effect however you want
what i do sometimes is sketch traditionally, take a pic of it and move it to my digital art program
What? That’s ridiculous
I mean If it’s cheating then I can do it but i can’t because I suck at drawing.
I hate people who say photo shop isn’t art
My mom knows I like to do art but, she doesn't understand that I teach myself how to draw and paint bc I do it in my own way that no one else does. She always gives me her old art books and I end up never using them for this reason. My artsy friend also suggested I take art class at the school we go to but I always tell her no bc I don't wanna have to do art for a grade and be forced to do specific art when I don't want to. I'm just not like all the other artists and no one can understand that and it frustrates me that all the artsy people I know say that "drawing humans is easy and you should try it" except that IT ISN'T. Everyone is just trying to get me to do art their way and I hate it. Sometimes they make me feel like I'm not good at art just because drawing humans isn't easy for me.
"I'm not like all the other artists" /j
i cant keep my art straight for 2 seconds, youre great at what u do
also drawing humans is the bane of my existence
One thing I hate is when I get one proportion wrong with a character, and then I ruin the WHOLE drawing trying to fix it.

Fun Fact: Some artists will actively take elements from pop culture characters and blend them into their own. Sonic, for example, was equipped with shoes with buckles to represent Michael Jackson, with them also being red to invoke Santa Claus.
can relate to the motivation thing,i like playing games with my friends alot,so every time i want to practice art i imagine how much more fun would it be to just play clash mini with my homie, but the satisfaction from understanding something in art is so good

Art Horror Story of mine:
Was drawing something, it was for a school project due the next morning. Recently pulled the last grains of motivation to finally do it. Left to go to the toilet. Came back. Saw my sister drawing over it with a red pen as she normally does that with my art to help me improve. She’s a rlly good artist and often I come over to her and she grabs her red pen and starts correcting it. But that was my project I was nearly done with-
This animation is surprisingly fluid for what I was expecting lol
1. When nothing wants to look good
2. When parents tell you to do something other than draw
3. When ur eraser smudges ur drawing
4. When your pencil or eraser disappears while you draw
5. When the page wrinkles
So relatable ;-;
I was making a design in art class and I really liked it. But I made a mistake and had to erase on a thin sheet of paper... It ripped horribly down the center.

Top tip in art:
Don't feel forced into a style or type of thing just do what you want like if you wanna draw an epic dragon hybrid thing go do that don't worry about others pressing you just try your best and do what you want to do
I understand so much of this! Being an artist myself I sometimes get compared to others or sometimes I can’t think of anything though I am an animator and not a drawer so it’s probably abit different... the worst part of being a Speed Animator is that once you upload the next part of something people instantly think the next part will be out in like 2 days! Like animation, even speed animation takes long enough just to plan the movements and story let alone the actual animation...
Some things I hate:
*drawing an OC that looks nothing like me* "Is that you?" Why yes, of course I'm a male who's 6'6 and has silver dyed hair. Thanks for noticing.
*drawing the same OC* "That doesn't look like you." Do you really think I'm so self absorbed that I'd only draw self portraits?
*drawing a chibi, bonus points if on paper* "OMG! That's such a good GACHA EDIT!" Excuse me, not every chibi was made by Luni.
*got done with drawing* "Did you draw that?" Bruh, you saw me draw it!
"Can you draw me?" Sure. "Realistically please?" Suuuuure? But I'm bad... Maybe I could draw you in a Manga or CalArts style? "No! Realistically" Okay. *draws* "OMG EW UR SO BAD!!!11!!!!1" I tried to warn you...
"Can you draw my ocs?" Sure! *twelve seconds later* "LOOK WHAT I DREW!!!" B-but I made that...

The last two made my blood boil
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTAND THAT GACHA ISN'T ALWAYS CHIBI. I have always draw chibis (or what I think it was lol) and my sis keep talking about gacha when I showed her my drawing. So I downloaded the game and use it mostly for videos, drawing my OCs in different ways and for base. But when I drew actual chibis, I keep getting comments (from friends) "aww cure gacha character" like wOt yOu SaY bIsh. Aight I'mma go now-

ITSJALDKAKDW HOW DO YOU STEAL A POSE 😭
Except when you do a JoJo pose, when it's that people go like:
JOOOOOJOOOOOO GOLDEN WIND!!!
so it's a reference, not stealing something... i guess ? if i see Chip doing some JoJo poses i think i'll love him even more. and for the dumbass that keep telling you something like "hey you stole that from.../ hey it's like ... you're not original" Just answer "Hey i got Arms and Hands, you are just like me, so you are not original, cut them right off."
As well as color

THERES ONLY SO MUCH POSES HUMANS CAN DO?! ITS SOOO ANNOYING. People don’t understand they are humans. Not limbs that go everywhere. It’s just you drawing a human and a Karen comes up and says: YOU STOLE MY POSE
I hate it when you are sketching the base of a person or something and somebody goes like: IS THE DRAWING NAKED? no it's a sketch

Exactly...
I can never get the hang of online drawing (I’ve tried everything free but it’s not the same) but nothing beats the horror of finishing a five hour drawing only to spill tea or anything else on it 😥
This is why most my drawings are small because I am a clumsy person wearing baggy pyjamas while I do art
That last one is the one I most struggled with because I wanna do a comic or a nice art and my body was like "Nah you don't need to do that. Play games or do nothing" it's very very annoying so thank you for bringing this up (Not sarcastic aswell)

Yep I agree except that happened to my 30 sharpies a month ago... still haven’t found them I think that they’re gone for good
And then when you find it, its like meeting a loved one after a long time
Seen Hilda? Heard of Nisse? Pocket dimension house dwellers? That’s where that shit goes
As a horror artist, I find this very relatable. Also, the whole "redesigning your logo" thing I already have on full lockdown.
Issue with being an artist is that there is SO much art out there that no matter how different you try to make your own oc there will be someone else out there who has already drew it
One thing I can't stand is people asking "what are you drawing" and then "can I look at your sketchbook?"
Don't ever ask to look inside my child.
Omg same!
That’s part of the fear I have where I don’t like showing off any of my work.
I don't mind that with certain people, but my god does it annoy me when my grandpa just picks it up, flips through it and is like: "well they don't look realistic, they are too cartoony you should draw more realism" - no, no don't force me to draw in another style just because you dislike my style. Just don't look through my drawings if you are going to complain about how ugly they are because they are not the style you want them to be.
Girl grabbed my sketchbook like dude you don’t know what I draw (it’s not bad, but I like to keep it to myself) so I just took it back from her lol
Kai Studios Official one time a classmate drew on my drawing of flowey.
Honestly this may be a personal thing, but whenever someone wants to see my entire sketch book. And then just *GRABS* THE BOOK. like Nah dude, that's mine. It ain't for you
My sister always grabs my sketchbooks without asking. And damn I *HATE* when she does it. Especially since she tried to colour a WIP. And my art is often a bit...yeah... not for children's eyes?
YES THATS LITERALLY MY SCHOOL FRIENDS omy gooshh its annoying
I hate this so much, sometimes one of my schoolmates took my sketchbook from my hands with power and i couldn't do anything then she watched MY FUCKIN PERSONAL SKETCHES WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND I WANTED TO DROWN AWAY and 'cause i'm introvert my best friend had to ask my sketchbook back.
And after that, my drawing was messy. 2 annoying in one case.
Lol I feel you but my story's kinda different. I had someone take my sketchbook and use it to hit another kid and I was mad for days. The cover got ripped (luckily it didn't fall off) T-T
Very relatable. One time I was drawing at school, some random kid was getting SO close to me watching me draw, and is breathing DIRECTLY in my ear! I kept telling everyone to leave me alone, but they didn’t. At one point, I didn’t even realized someone was sitting next to me watching me draw, and then the other kids were like “So YoU lEt GiRLs WatCh YoU DraW, SiMp!”

I was drawing a really detailed drawing and I loved it so much. However it was 1am and I forced myself to get into bed. The next morning, I opened my drawing back up to keep working on it.
The horror.
*It was saved as a PNG file. The only file that keeps your layers intact is a RIF file.*
I had to continue the drawing without layers . . . it took me three days.
I think the motivation thing always stems from comparing what you should be doing, to what you're already doing or would rather do. So like, you mentioned how you dont wanna draw but by bed time you really do? Well you also mentioned your brain is too excited to sleep as well, and I've had insomnia my whole life because of that. I always described it as my brain being too interested in random stuff, but genuinely what I think it really is, is that my brain thinks of sleep as the boring end to my fun with literally anything. A compilation of memes I've seen 1000 times sounds better than just closing my eyes and ending my day. I feel like you might be the same.
Like yeah devoting time to art can be kinda blah in comparison to playing games or whatever, but devoting time to art instead of SLEEPING???? Oh HECK yeah I'm all for it! I've rarely met someone who would rather do literally anything else than sleep like me, so I'll admit it's nice to know others experience that same petty thought process. But I feel like there's a lesson to be learned in understanding why we do that, and maybe using our mental habits to improve our schedule/motivations.
I always do my most productive stuff late at night because honestly sometimes even chores seem better than just shutting myself off long enough to drift away. Kinda dumb if you think about it because the faster I get to sleep, the more I get to do the next day. But that's all it is, just a preference in short term benefit than long term. Even as I write this I'm sure it's just because I'd rather write out an essay on a 3+ year old youtube video at 4:30 am rather than just finally shut down

Things that annoy the frick out of me:
1. *If it’s not realistic art, it’s not good art*
I don’t know if anyone else has had this problem before, but I have. And I hate it with a passion. One time I showed some comic-like art to a friend because I was super proud of it, and they JUST THREW IT ON THE FLOOR. They didn’t even say anything! Wtf?!?! Seriously! It made me really mad, so I continued to draw their possible deaths. But when is show someone some realistic art of mine, which isn’t really my thing, they’re like, “OMG it’s so good!!” And I’m happy about that. But I want people to notice the thing I’m actually passionate about. Now that I think about it, a lot of people I know wave off my art.
2. *Commissions*
I’m not saying I hate them, no not at all. I just hate it when people expect not to pay. And when they ask for something I can’t necessarily do without being really stressed, like realistic art. And when I’m done with it, and they say, “That’s not what I wanted.” “Can’t you make it better?” “Why does it look like that?” IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THAT MAKE IT YOUR DAMN SELF! One time my close friend asked for realistic portrait of Lil Peep, and I agreed, for FREE. It stressed me out a lot, but I got it done. And I was super proud. So I gave it to him and guess what? “I asked for Lil Peep, not Lil Pump.” I ACCIDENTLY DREW LIL PUMP INSTEAD OF LIL PEEP. And he STILL expected another drawing, of Lil Peep this time, for FREE. And I said “HELL TO THE NAW.” And he never got a drawing again :)
3. *Old art*
Ok, say someone finds some of your old art, and then they say something like, “Why does it look like that?” “This isn’t good.” “What happened to it?” EVEN AFTER you tell them it is old art. It’s old art stupid! Of course it’s gonna look worse! And it doesn’t mean that’s what ALL my art looks like! And I already know that it looks bad. Thank you very much!
4. *Comparing*
I hate it when someone looks at your art and says, “____’s looks better.” WELL YOU COULD HAVE KEPT THAT TO YOURSELF. Thanks now I feel insecure about my art and will probably never show it publicly again. Don’t get me wrong, I love other artists works, especially people I know personally. But when you outright embarrass someone like that, NO. You’re basically reminding someone that they’ll never be better! And I know, there are many people that are better at art than me, but don’t rub it in my face!
Why is this so relatable!? My school "friend" asked me why my drawing of my oc wasnt wearing anything... I wanted to yell at her "well what do you think!!?" But I'm way too nice so I told her I wasn't done and then she asked do I only draw furries... She watched me draw a human before. I thought to myself, "is she fricking dumb??" I showed her a human drawing and was like "ohhh so do draw humans."
I hate people like that
My best friend compares my art to an anime artist (which was our friend) and said she drew better than me. I felt bad. Then she said "I'm just kidding" but were you really kidding??
Okay, that all I have to say
I never share my art with anyone only my dad and my best friend eve, I sometimes draw at school but I try not to give too much attention I have a "friend" he always says that hahaha you can't draw and says I am very bad at drawing now I am good at art he better at drawing but I am still upgrading to beat him but thank God I went to another country, but anyway every artist have to go to see this experience but if u don't want it just don't show off or bring too much attention don't tell anyone u r a good artist or something

im not an artist myself. but one thing i hate the most is when people tell artists to "hurry up" or "is it done yet?" if you make the artist to rush to make the character you want. they will end up have a weird design that you dont want. and they blame the artist for the picture they want and act like they did nothing wrong. the more time an artist has to create something the better it will be better than rushing or giving the artist a certain amount of time.
