That guy at McDonald's:
"I'd like to order a Big Mac meal with coke."
- Okay, sir. That'll be $5.99.
"ARE YOU TRYING TO SCAM ME?! I WON'T PAY BEFORE I GET MY FOOD!"
@Oh Yeah Yeah McDonalds, by definition, is indeed a restaurant. Just because it's fast food, doesn't make it not a restaurant. It's actually the langest restaurant chain worldwide (measured on yearly revenue)
Kings Buffet is pay on entry
Nice

My daughter did this. She is really good. I felt so bad seeing how discouraged she became. Some people even stole her art style and claimed it as their own. They would request and not pay. Freelance work is crazy

God I feel so bad for all the artists who have to deal with this kind of stuff, I respect literally every artist who has the patients to do this kind of stuff, you guys seriously deserve more respect
Definitely relatable ~
But I will say one thing I feel most artist go through is undervaluing their work. Both because they themselves don't believe their quality and time is worth it and because they might reinforce that thought from a vocal complainer of the price or because they don't see much attention for their work/commissions being open.
Often the later issue is more because you haven't marketed yourself enough. Many a fledgling and even experienced freelance digital artists will stick with posting their work and communicating with their audience through one website and use only the posting feature to get the word out there.
You GOTTA market yourself. Post to various galleries not just one -- interact with various communities where your customers hang out in (could be a gaming forum, or a discord channel, or even a local friend group) -- art as a job is more than just making the art itself. You gotta get yourself out there~ and constantly~! (sometimes even asking people you know might be interested in some art from you rather than waiting for them to message you first)
As for the value of art itself, I hate when people think the value of an artpiece should be compared to an hourly wage earner's value (or dramatically less).
No -- the work someone doing retail (for example) for 8 hours and getting paid 11/h is NOT the same as an artist that spends 8 hours drawing an artpiece. There's the time it took to communicate with people-- the marketing involved-- the bookeeping -- gallery management (also let's not forget the various institutions that grab chunks of your commission pie-- like paypal transaction fees or government self employment tax-- which for me means all the money I take in is really 30% LESS than the front face price I charge someone. That 11/h worker has his taxes and other things usually accounted by the employer)
Then there's just the value of the work itself and the fact that those 8 hours are accounting for 8 FOCUSED hours of work. In most hourly jobs you have periods of "down" time that add up -- I think on average most retail jobs will have something like 4 hours of "focused on task" work and 4 hours of "non-focused" activity (be it chatting with an employee-- checking your phone-- or in general just walking around and not actively focused mentally or physically)
TLDR -- value yourselfs more digital aritists ~
"hourly work is not as hard as an artists work"
"buhuu i gotta do taxes by myself"
"omg im in an oversaturated market and cannot charge what i want as there is always another desperate guy doing it cheaper"
The reality is that art has no inherent value, meaning people can potentially value it at anything. And that anything usually happens to be $0 for the average Joe. When people commission a popular artist, they are buying a name, a brand, convenience and scarcity. They aren’t paying for your art. They’re paying for all of the esoteric, Skinner box Pavlovian conditioning concepts around the art. Marketing, baby. This scales from a rookie commission digital artist to van goghs in some billionaire’s art repository. Your art is only worth what you say it is IF PEOPLE BELIEVE YOU. And that is the hardest and most critical part.
I watched a video (forgot what it was) but a family in I believe Kansas bought an original renaissance painting unknowingly from a thrift shop for $30. They got it appraised later and were offered $50k. Once that painting was restored it was sold by the auctioners for hundreds of millions. Guess who never saw a dime of that money. Seriously, before you go into an art career, you need to take this into consideration. There’s a pecking order of ‘replaceable jobs’ and artists are somewhere at the front of that line, while farmers are at the back. So you’re likely going to be fighting tooth and nail for even decent pay for your entire career. I think it’s better as a hobby tbf

As a new artist thinking of doing commissions, this spikes my blood pressure. Amazing work!
Getting so many requests after closing commissions is relatable to me...from the other side. More often than not, when I find an artist I like and I want a commission and I have the money, when I go to message them, I see that they have JUST closed commissions. I spent about 2 or 3 years without getting any commissions because that just kept happening over and over.
“Artists are greedy”
Artists: PLS GIVE ME COMMSIONS I NEED TO PAY MY BILLS
And we need to eat (I don't do commissions but I understand my fellow artists)
As a musical artist, I felt this, I do commissions for cheap, I once did an entire 808 song for my friend for only $10, which is how much Chipflake charges for sketches
@@LunarTFM sorry man :'T
That's why art it's not marketable and doesn't afford someone for life
I know that feeling. I haven’t even sold a first piece of my artwork! :,(
“You artists are so greedy” says the person who didn’t spend half a day to get a bit of cash
It’s really rude too, it’s not like you spend hours a day just for $5-15 just to get rejected and not receive any money. but it’s EVEN WORSE when they do actually pay and then they just say they made it themselves
@@marrissa_x3 yeah its such a big cycle of shit. either you don't get paid for hours of work, or you gjet money but the person that got it makes more.... AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH1!!!!!!111!!
Or u get an actual job
@@the_Googie I mean I guess? But just saying "or get a job" is rude. Most artists that do commissions and freelance usually have a job, so commisions is like a way to earn extra cash. Its like a side gig.
Not to say people can't make a living off of freelance and commissions.
Saying that also implies that the artists work isn't worth paying the money, which is wrong. Artists spend hours for artwork. and its not like they can crap out an amazing drawing every hour. And this isn't even going into the, alot of practice, time, and money to even be able to even do the art in the first place.
Even funnier, "you'll actually earn a lot from it! you artists are so greedy" are contradicting messages
I really wish i had seen this video when it got recommended to me not only did you introduce me to what being an artist is like but you also showed me a lot of examples.
Thank you!
Meanwhile I'm here being the easiest to work with customer so I dont.give artists bs to deal with. Seriously, yall deserve respect for your work~
Same. I don't think I can afford to commission anyone currently, but by golly I want to! D: Having people draw whatever you want just sounds so appealing! And on top of that, you're supporting someone who needs it!
But again, priorities. Gotta think about my own finances first.
Charity is hard to come by when most mid-lower class people are struggling to pay their bills. Basically, NSFW makes so much because they’re playing the whale game. More people jerk off then build creative projects. The chances of hitting an art whale who is doing it for a creative process is very low, and if you do it’s almost always a business with a salaried position available for you. Draw p8rn and you’re casting a much, much wider net. Vastly wider. Then you hope and pray for a whale.

Im considering making commissions more and more
I felt this video on a spiritual level.
I'm not saying this because of the few clients I've had. Out of the 10, I think only 2 ended up giving me any frustration or trouble. The rest, mostly boys, have always been really nice and I thank them for that.
But I strongly identified with the frustration of customers never showing up, or showing up and leaving out of nowhere.
However, I never had a moment when I closed commissions and clients showed up :'D
I think I'm too invisible, considering that my profile with the most "influence" has only 100 followers, and I don't know how to get around that, I've been on the market for 2 years. I don't know if I charge too much for commission in my country (Brazil), or if my work is just not good enough, but no matter what I do, be it promotion or anything, I hardly have a customer.
I'm starting to give up little by little, but I think I can hold on a little longer, maybe it's worth it?

I do high quality 3D work now, so commissions are usually in the range of 200$ - 600$. I've got one client paying around 1,700$ for a full custom avatar.
Try using a broker service like squareup. It takes a little to get used to, but it helps ensure that once the client orders from you, there's a legal paper trail showing they did infact agree to the terms to pay.

do you actually not know what nsfw means
oh you sweet summer child
Pesky Bird
Dude your animation is FIRE🔥
The pain is all too real
4:38 is my favorite part of the video.
The distorted music, the little characters’ horrified faces, and the blurred artwork are just the best details.
The last face be like "oh lawd help me pls."
Its like Undertale Genocide, where the music gets slower and more distorted.

This means, there is official NSFW art made by chip... oh god
Yeehaw
Lazy Gamerz no, we must find it
WHERE IS IT?
*sinister grin*
I think chip really make the nsfw but he only make it for him self.
The animation is so heckin' good!!!!!!!!!!
Nice animation! Keep it up!
Its true, just add "NSFW" and combine it with furry art and you'll be the richest person alive
I can confirm this, saddly :(
Wow....... This is so accurate on so many levels😪
Yea "normal" people would want that furry cringe.
NSFW artists wish this were true, yet I see so many struggle to pay things such as rent or medical bills.
DoodleDan There are even some furries that will just give you like 50$ just to draw whatever.
“Maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea!”
*gets message*
“* t h a t s n o t m o n e y ! ! *”
thats okay too .--.
Aleron Wolf .-.
I love your animation dude! If I were a adult and this was a real situation I would’ve helped you and send you a picture of the character I want because you are a cool dude😎
Stay strong soldier... You have a undefeatable soul...
I TOLD YOU, I DON'T PAY BEFORE I GET MY FOOD!
Thank you for having me
I actually do sometimes because I want to be fast. But only if I know it was good.
@@huekeks2231 I also do, but because I'm afraid of forgetting to pay.
But in that case, it was like enter a restaurant, ask for food and leaving after eating the bread that was in the table
wai- oh shit your that guy
Not really a restaurant but. Mcdonalds. You get your art when it has been cooked to perfection and only such! No exceptions! Haha
I would like you to draw my character with a very big *[hat]* and a *[neckerchief]* having a *[great time]* with a *[long time friend]* and at the same time *[hugging]* her *[while he]* is *[telling her how much of a good friend she is]* and the *[girl]* has a *[really big smile]* with the *[nice things she's being called]* in *[that moment]* while his *[cellphone]* is in the *[camera mode]* *[so they can capture this moment that represents their long lasting friendship]* while both of them eating icecream.
See, it wasn't that bad
That what I call a hero!
Thank you. :D
yay :D
wholesomized
Bless you
