    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 4 роки тому +11

      I actually do prefer the prequels designs over the original. The TIE just looks way too impractical compared to the vulture. The vulture doesn't need a cockpit and it's much thicker legs have more than enough space for fuel while the engines can be in the pods. The vulture provides quite a small target. While the TIE has arguably even less room in it but is a much larger target from the side.
      Also the AT-AT looked really off to me even as a kid. I felt it was really underarmed for it's size and was extremely top heavy. The AT-TE is much better armed and much more stable.

Not unlike the clothing and architecture of Naboo, the N-1 (and J-type Nubian Royal Starship) are all absolutely gorgeous, clearly designed with just as much an aesthetic goal as practical. I’ve said this before but, as far as Star Wars designs go, the N-1 is pretty good. The bow mounted engines is a pretty dumb decision as it just increases the chance of getting hit. But it is more of a show piece than a military fighter given the peace going on and despite its role as security.
    The weakeness mentioned is pretty superfluous since it’s clearly not meant for air-to-surface engagements and anyone who tries to use it like that is either extremely desperate or a total idiot.

    • @francisco4benites

      Mecha-san that being said I wonder what you think of the larger x wing with the 4 wings and the larger size ship with 4 engines and guns on the end of the wings lol if that is so called the best ship I wonder why the naboo is hated on when it has a better design than any other with a small frame with 2 engines and having the guns in the middle same with the missiles I think compared to any other starfighter the naboo starfighter is hands down one of the best with only the jedi starfighters like the delta 7 and eta 2 being better but those are more of a smaller class while the only one in the same class as the n1 would have to be the z95 since it pretty much is a normal jet we see in our world besides the guns on the end of the wings rather than in the middle or on the front do you agree?

    • @DecidedlyNinja

      The importance of damage tolerance for starfighters is greatly overestimated. In the movies, even supposedly tough designs like the Y-wing almost always die when the enemy gets into a good shooting position. Mind you, I can't think of a good reason for the engines to be where they are, save for looks.

    One of the things I picked up in my amateur study of rocketry is the design of an aerospike engine. Whereas most engines have a cylindrical nozzle that limits their most effective impulse to a specific altitude (and boy howdy does THAT get complicated fast) an aerospike engine is more efficient across a wider range of altitudes.
    If going off of real aerodynamics, the N1’s engines appear to have this design philosophy in mind, which, with its aerodynamic, low-drag spaceframe, would indicate that it’s designed to be used in atmosphere just as often as in vacuum.
    I really dig the design.

    I always wonder why ships in the Prequel Trilogy look so new than in the Original Trilogy. Of course, the Prequel was made after the Original but what’s the in-universe reasons.
    After I saw “Book of Boba Fett” Episode 5, I finally realized why or at least for N-1 Starfighter.
    Short version: quality over quantity.
    Naboo ships are made domestically and used exclusive on their planet, even “hand-made” with addition of aesthetic design. Most ships you see (X-Wings, TIEs, etc.) are mass-produced from automated factories by galactic megacorporations for distribution to the Republic/Empire and various planets. Mass-produced ships are not made to look good just as long they are practical.
    The TIE-series is a perfect example of mass-production with low cost. I heard later in the war, the Empire resort to use recycled metal to build more TIE fighters.

    • @voltronimusprime3833
      @voltronimusprime3833 2 роки тому +2

      Ships made during the prequel era, (particularly in the beginning) usually had the luxury of time and resources, as it was basically the SW equivalent of a golden age.
      The original trilogy however is much more run down. The Republic has fallen and the Empire has seized control. The years of warfare predating this severally weakened most production based economies, (as Palpatine intended) and what was left was almost entirely under the control of the Empire.
      By limiting people's access to higher-quality materials and means of production, the Empire kept people in a poor and dependent state, limiting their ability to rebel.

    I would love to see a video on Halo’s Longsword. Barely mentioned in the novels so I’m not sure if there is other information in the other books/comics. Or maybe even the Waypoint Canon Fodder posts might discuss some of it.

    The Republic should have tried to mass produce this craft for their navy. This is a well rounded ship that would have done wonders I think and would have negated the ARC-170 and Z-95 types. It's a balanced fighter with a similar role to an X Wing.

    • @Jfk2Mr
      @Jfk2Mr 5 років тому +2

      Not necessarily - N-1 was quite expensive to produce and maintain due to small numbers of produced ships and production methods (they were more crafted than produced).
      Also Z-95 and V-19 were far easier to acquire en masse and maintain. Z-95 could be also used as CAS with stock equipment or after minor upgrade

    • @jaredw9171
      @jaredw9171 5 років тому +1

      @@Jfk2Mr It's expensive likely due to the small planet producing them as well as the fact that it was coated in valuable metal. I think if the ship was license produced en masse by a company such as KDY or something it would be significantly cheaper due to streamline of manufacturing and tossing aside the useless chrome finish.

    Now in EA's battlefront 2 I find myself always choosing the starfighter every chance I get on the naboo map, just sucks that though it's one of my favorite ships (like the y wing) it's in the worst prequel movie

    If we get technical, there are also another few details that make this a good space dogfighter. 1. Very small side, aft, and bow profiles making it hard to hit. 2. Nose mounted weapons instead of being mounted on the outriggers means it can shoot straight and doesn't need the cannons to have micro-adjustable gimbals. Also makes it harder to disarm

      50-60 age estimation wasn't far off. The N-1 was introduced in 33BBY. The model was discontinued just before 40 ABY. The Battle of Starkillerbase was 34 ABY. So it's safe to say that the N-1 is about 67 years old.

      The TIE was far more maneuverable than the N1, and had more powerful weapons, though the drawbacks would make the N1 win 7 out of 10 times all things being equal. Replace it with any other TIE fighter though and the N1 would be outmatched more often.
