Very high procurement budget per fighter. Personal shield, personal droid, personal FTL, personal torpedo launchers(x2). Probably leather interior too. Meanwhile TIE Fighter looks like a scooped out droid with expendable pilot crammed in.
I read/heard that N1 is non-FTL ship. Mando's N1 has aftermarket FTL engine. To travel between systems N1 required a carrier to which it would connent via it's back spike. Pilot would spend the travel-time in cockpit and disconnect from the main ship after exiting the hyperspace.
It's also worth noting that many Naboo weapons and vehicles were made by the Sullust-based SoroSuub Corporation, including the ELG-3A blaster pistol (Padme's sidearm), the Flash and Gian military speeders and the S-130 Shelter speeder. The Sullustans seem to share a similar taste in aesthetics as the Naboo, with SoroSuub producing many elegant designs throughout its history.
My gripe with the Mando scene os that the set designers clearly never visited an auto-shop. We need lights EVRYWHERE so we can see what we are doing in those dark places. Sigh.
I think the bigger Naboo ships were all 1 of 1 because in book of boba it was mentioned the n1 was hand built insinuating the other ships were as well and every time you see one it seems to be a different ship.
The N1 Starfighter would have been a perfect Jedi Starfighter in the pre clone wars period. Even the philosophy behind it would have suited the Jedi. They would have just painted it red instead of using Chrome. It ticks all the boxes in terms of capabilities, and having a inbuilt hyperdrive instead of needing a hyperspace ring is far more useful, and removes a severe vulnerability when doing remote investigations and missions to potentially hostile territory. While not as manoeuvrable as the Delta 7, it still was capable and had stronger shields and weapons. If needed, the _N1-J_ could have had instruments stripped out to save weight for a Jedi pilot. It would be a ideal craft for Sentinels style missions. But then the Jedi Order should really have used a bunch of highly modified Corellian Light Freighters... when suitably upgraded they are apparently the most powerful ships in the Star Wars universe...
Just noticed that the Nabooian's large Starship looks similar to the real-life German Ho-229 and B-2 Spirit Bomber. While the medium starship looks more like an artistical Me-262 German Jet fighter due to the engines being lower to the fuselage.
Fun fact, the Blackbird had a bomber variant. Two were made and used but due to costs they were canceled for further production. They also made one the had a drone that would launch off the top lol. The SR-71 family was very interesting and an amazing piece of aviation history.
Yeah, but the SR71 design was purpose built to carry a camera, not weapons. It could be adapted, but those always felt "wrong"... sort of like using beskar to make a spear, just not what it is for ;)
I love the N1, it might even be by favourite Star fighter in all of Star wars. It reminds me of the Spitfire. It's a simple, yet beautiful little interceptor that will absolutely tear you up if you get on the wrong side of it. Little side note there, the Spitfire started out as a floatplane believe it or not.... And the N1 has a boat shaped hull. Nothing in that in sure, just a little observation that occurred to me.
N1 Starfighter is always a favorite of mine. The ship is so much form follows function but also a work of art. Small, fast, agile, with a decent amount of weapons on **centerline**.
The point not touched on is the Naboos Ships sound. There is a running thread between atleast the large ships. They sound like large, multi radial engine powered aircraft. Radials have a distinctive sound, so Amadalas ships always sounded like DC-3s or B-17s to me
Naboo is just build different. Love the design of the N-1. And also the Naboo Bomber from Battle of Naboo. I wish Naboo ships, and not just the N-1s, were in more Star Wars media. They are just so cool.
The fact that Nubia exists and isn't just rolled into Naboo, thus making us have to call Nabooians that monstrosity of a word REALLY irks me. The two planets are basically clones of each other.
When I saw Episode 1 for the first time, I instantly fell in love with the N1. And I still consider it amongst my top favorite starfighters in regards to design alone. But yeah, Nubian ships just hit differently for me in comparison to the obvious classic fan favorites. Their sleekness, those curves, those engines, the addition of chromium as a means for symbolism of royal affiliation. Hell, even the N-X (Naboo Police Cruiser variant seen in the Ep.1 Battle for Naboo game) was a delight, even if it was painted blue. Even the Bomber variant (NB-1) from the same game was oddly visually appealing.
I've always suspected that the manufacturer for the J-Type from Phantom Menace was specifically picked by Uncle George to make a Star Wars -specific answer to the question "What's a Nubian?" from Kevin Smith's film Chasing Amy.
I haven't read the Darth Plagueis book, but I've read Queen's Peril/Queen's Shadow/Queen's Hope about Padme from pre-Episode 1 to pre-Episode 3, and there's a lot of talk about Naboo being a very artsy planet that cares about not only its own environment but that of other worlds. Makes sense that their ships would be so environmentally friendly and aesthetic.
I absolutely love small militia/local units. From the Umbaran Zenuas 33 Starfighters to the amazing ginivex 33s and pau an Porax 38s. Its something id love to see more of
This is where my assumptions came from as well. I assumed most of the Naboo spaceships were also at least semi functional in/underwater as well. That explains the aerodynamic/hydrodynamic designs.
One thing the Prequels really amaze me are their ships. TPM: N1, Padme chrome ship, Republic Consular Ship, TF landers, Darth Maul's ship. Now I play Starfield to try to replicate the experience of flying one of those ships.
Farkkk I always Loooved Naboo ships! They look like the far future evolution of WW2 era fighters and space race era experimental planes. They look fast sitting on a pad man, beautiful design and really really cool
It’s always better when every faction, planet, nation, company has their own ships in science fiction. Makes the universe bigger and means we get more videos on UA-cam talking about them.
I feel in love with the N1 when Phantom Menace came out. It's the most beautiful app in the Star Wars universe. It's also that only ship that could actually fly in real life.
The richness and diversity of the ships and such in the prequel/clone wars era vs what we see in the OT really conveys a sense of having lost culture under the Empire. its really cool
Fantastic ship designs in general, not even just within Star Wars. I always loved that four engine platform from episode 2, I wanted an armed version so badly, something with turrets and some cannons in front
Naboo ships have always been my favorite. I get that star wars' general aesthetic has always been chunky greebled blocks with engines slapped on the back, but I really appreciate vehicles with a sense of style and grace in their shape. I especially love how far back the cockpit/bridge is, reminding me of porsches and fastback sports cars in a way. Naboo ships are ships with class.
I had an idea for my own Star Wars OC where his father came from Naboo and his mother came from Alderaan. In the battle of Coruscant he would steal his father’s N-1 just as Anakin did years earlier and would join the fight alongside the clones. Eventually he would make it onto the Invisible Hand and brush shoulders with Anakin and Obi-Wan as they fought Dooku and Grievous before being apprehended by an IG-100 Magnaguard. Then the entire invisible hand would start to come apart and him and the Magnaguard he had been fighting off up until that point would have to join forces to get off the crumbling ship so they would make it back to the hangar and fly back home where he would be in a world of hurt for his dangerous stunt. In that time he would make friends with his droid companion and come to realize that the Republic is rapidly becoming an autocratic police state. This would create a divide between his mother and his father. As the Empire formed his father would become a staunch loyalist while his mother would lament the old republic and desire more democratic reforms. He would go from spoiled rich kid to smuggler and scoundrel, doing whatever oftentimes illegal smuggling activities for local Hutts and criminal gangs to make a quick buck which he would almost always invest into his ship, now a heavily modified Gazonti class cruiser. He would also come across a valuable business partner, a Trendotian bounty hunter who would become one of his crew. He would also find a young Twi’lek girl whom he freed from slavery and together they would join the rebel alliance to fight for the Republic they all long to return.
Except for the Tie fighters all the ships have so much exposed. I realize they were done this way for the movie to make them look interesting, but the realist in me thinks that all these pipes and conduits being exposed to space and to weapons fire make them more vulnerable. The big military cruisers that will never (supposedly) enter the atmosphere of a planet, it kinda makes sense. What bothers me is ships like the Millinium Falcon being able to regularly land on planets should be more aerodynamic but no, it has so much on the outside that the friction from the atmosphere should make it hard to handle and different sections would heat up and probably be a weakness and probably the cause of many systems problems. I'm tempted to remake models of these ships to make the Falcon more aerodynamic at least to see what it would look like.
6:17 I still say this fighter is a complete mismatch for Dinn, it would be ok if he also had some other craft that the fighter could dock on/in but as a bounty hunter a fighter severely limits the type of jobs you can take, no cargo movement, no prisoners you know the largest number of jobs available to a bounty hunter as most jobs want targets brought in warm I mean it’s not like you can just strap a prisoner to the outside of your fighter (though it would be funny if they had an outtake/deleted scenes of Dinn strapping a guy to the nose of the fighter and landing with the bounty at the location “”oh….. well he was alive when I took off! That has to count for something?””
I agree, there are so many cool light freighters out there they could of given him. I was really hoping to see a ship from legends come out. Some people theorized he would get a G9-rigger like Anakin had during the clone wars. Me personally I wanted him to get the HWK-1000 or even a E9-Explorer.
Yeah but Dinn himself digs it and all that custom aftermarket hot rodding gave him a get out of jail card with the crazy sublight acceleration. Recall back in season 1 and 2 he kept getting pulled over by X-wings and have other bounty hunters on his tail that he has to get rid of with fancy flying. These days he just punches the turbo button and it's see you later. Plus he's more famous now and probably doesn't need to take small jobs for quick cash anymore. The only recent one we saw him do is in BoBF before he got the N1 and in that case he cut the guy's head off anyway. Axe Woves was probably making way way more money than Dinn when he was doing his mercenary thing and if Dinn needed money he could always tag along with them for a while now that they all get along, or at the minimum borrow one of their Gauntlet.
I am using stripped-down N1 starfighters in my RP game, set during Dark Times. This fancy outer hull would realistically be first thing to go, if N1 would end up in Rebel hands (much like Y-wings were stripped down to ease maintenance and reduce weight).
My favorite fun fact about the N-1 is that the first appearance was *not* in The Phantom Menace or related tie-ins like the Starfighter game seen in the video. Instead the very first appearance of the N-1 was in the original Rogue Squadron game on the N64, where the N-1 was one of the secret craft you could unlock. The game was released months prior to the film and since this was back in the days of games being on cartridges rather than online, it was in the files at release rather than being a DLC or update later on.
I love naboo ships so very much! Like, ya, the best part of Star wars is the "dirty used world" look it has, but man, the sleek design of naboo ships was seriously cool!
If I had to pick one thing that I thought the prequels did exceptionally well, it'd be the general vehicle and droid designs. They're all sufficiently different from the OT to convey that this is a different time period with different technology and factions, but they don't feel out of place in the universe, plus they did a really good job showing how all of this technology transitioned into the technology seen in the OT. The N1 starfighter in particular was always a great example to me of the prequel's interesting design philosophy. Comparing the N1 to an X-wing feels like comparing a '60's Sting Ray sports car to an '80's Delorian and it just feels right to me as a natural progression in terms of design aesthetics. The fact that the Disney sequels didn't bother doing something like this in order to keep them feeling familiar is a big part of why they feel so soulless to me.
That is literally a design component of R-series Astromech droids, the Head/Dome and other major components are separate from the Body/Legs. There are a few designs where the droids head needs to be detached to fit, a few that come to mind are Delta-7 'Aethersprite', N-1 and Alpha-3 'Nimbus' (V-Wings should be fitted with a Q7, but R-Series can be used). Look-up the Cross-section of the N-1, you see the 'Neck' extended with the body right at the bottom and head at the top.

@@qjo1999 accoring to star wars encyclopedia I read as a kid, the quad engine ship had front docking ports for those escort N1s.
the N-1s are my absolute favorites, but as someone else commented, now i want to see nubian capital ships and cruisers
The artwork in this video was excellent. I really enjoyed the video and how you linked up what you said to the visuals. It was very enjoyable.
The N-1 supplanted the X-Wing as my favorite fighter. It's just perfectly designed.
The n1 will always be my favorite star fighter, it looks like a space p51
I hate the yellow but the Mandalorian sleek silver chrome? Chef's kiss.
You dislike the yellow? How come?
I admit the pure chrome Din has is beautiful. Could use a bit of body work but it's great.
It's probably because in 1999 when Phantom menace came out special effects were more advanced than when a new hope came out in 1977
It's also worth noting that many Naboo weapons and vehicles were made by the Sullust-based SoroSuub Corporation, including the ELG-3A blaster pistol (Padme's sidearm), the Flash and Gian military speeders and the S-130 Shelter speeder. The Sullustans seem to share a similar taste in aesthetics as the Naboo, with SoroSuub producing many elegant designs throughout its history.
I’ve always wanted to see a larger possibly capital ship class Naboo or Nubian ship, all their products just feel handcrafted.
Mon Calamari ships canonically are individually handcrafted.
The footage from the old Starfighter game gave me a serious nostalgia trip. I've played that so many times.
The J-type 327 looks like it had holes for laser cannons in the photo you showed before the SR-71
It's also one of my favorite ships
From the moment I saw Episode 1, the N-1 became my favorite Star Wars ship.
Man, seeing those super stylish atmosphere entry shots really makes me want to go and do another rewatch of the prequels!
My gripe with the Mando scene os that the set designers clearly never visited an auto-shop. We need lights EVRYWHERE so we can see what we are doing in those dark places. Sigh.
I love how the royal skiffs and yacht have that ample, wide, gliding elegance that fits, say, the long trailing dress of a monarch
Naboo starship maintenance crews must be some of the highest paid people in the galaxy. Imagine having to polish those things all the time
Imagine if you commissioned the Nubian ship builders to build a battleship, it would be gorgeous!
It could be adapted, but those always felt "wrong"... sort of like using beskar to make a spear, just not what it is for ;)
Really liking the backgrounds on the recent intros! Keep it up!
I like the idea of planet specific design analysis; look forward to more like this
I love the N1, it might even be by favourite Star fighter in all of Star wars.
I absolutely love the Naboo ships, they're just straight up beautiful!
Its something id love to see more of
With so much of the planet being water, I wonder if the ships shared designs from pre-space flight ships and subs.
This is where my assumptions came from as well. I assumed most of the Naboo spaceships were also at least semi functional in/underwater as well. That explains the aerodynamic/hydrodynamic designs.
The Naboo thinkin' deysa so bombad.
N1 was always my favorite fighter, i just really enjoyed the shape of them.
I feel in love with the N1 when Phantom Menace came out. It's the most beautiful app in the Star Wars universe. It's also that only ship that could actually fly in real life.
Man! Starwars Star Fighter was such a goated game. So glad footage was used
The Star Wars Starfighter PS2 Game made me appreciate the N1. It was my favorite of the 3 player ships in that game.
The richness and diversity of the ships and such in the prequel/clone wars era vs what we see in the OT really conveys a sense of having lost culture under the Empire. its really cool
I’d love to see a video about Umbaran ships and vehicles
And then there's the Gungan mantis shaped starship they made with the Naboo. xD
The N1 is iconic. Thanks for the video.
I hadn't thought about it like that. Thank you.
I always loved the yellow fighters. Very stylish. I remember a GameCube game though we’re then being so fragile was so frustrating
The N 1 is my favorite Starfighter I absolutely love it
6:17 I still say this fighter is a complete mismatch for Dinn, it would be ok if he also had some other craft that the fighter could dock on/in but as a bounty hunter a fighter severely limits the type of jobs you can take, no cargo movement, no prisoners you know the largest number of jobs available to a bounty hunter as most jobs want targets brought in warm I mean it’s not like you can just strap a prisoner to the outside of your fighter (though it would be funny if they had an outtake/deleted scenes of Dinn strapping a guy to the nose of the fighter and landing with the bounty at the location “”oh….. well he was alive when I took off!
The N1 is my number one favorite Starship in all of Star Wars. Hell even in other sci-fi fictions as well.
Naboo domestic market of starships is the best. Tuners from all over the galaxy are craving those NDMs
I have a very clear memory in childhood when I first saw the Naboo Starfighter, I thought it would look better turned around LOL
By different you mean the best-looking, and I'm not wrong
the N-1 is probably my favorite starfighter in Star Wars...Outside of the Buick.
6:41 yes I am most definitely looking at the ship manufacturing going on
I am using stripped-down N1 starfighters in my RP game, set during Dark Times. This fancy outer hull would realistically be first thing to go, if N1 would end up in Rebel hands (much like Y-wings were stripped down to ease maintenance and reduce weight).
N1s aren't heavy, they wouldn't need stripped down. Y-Wings were medium duty fighters, the N1 is smaller than an X-Wing.
NEED a video on the Sith Infiltrator Maul uses in episode I! Such a cool looking ship.
The Mandalorians N1 beefed up was pretty cool 😊
the Rolls Royce of starships
I love the designs of the naboo technology
The fact that the Disney sequels didn't bother doing something like this in order to keep them feeling familiar is a big part of why they feel so soulless to me.
design flaw in the naboo fighter is the droid in the back must have a giraffe neck as their is no room for its shoulders
So glad to see the N-1 return in the Mandalorian.
My favorite starfighter in all of star wars
