    UPDATE! Thank you everyone who explained the percentage to me! It makes total sense why % is the way to go. Going 5 mph over in a low speed environment like a school zone is a much bigger deal than 5 on a freeway. Awesome stuff! This is what this channel is all about!

  • @jzcjca000
    @jzcjca000 3 роки тому +26

    Why I use percentage: I set my car to go 10% over the speed limit. In a 25 zone, it goes 28, which is all I'm comfortable doing in a residential area. In a 45 zone, it goes 50, which is roughly the median speed in my area. On the highway, in a 65 zone, it goes 72, which again keeps up with most of the traffic. So, at least in my area of Arizona, most cars are going about 10% over the speed limit, so it's really handy that my Tesla has the feature to do exactly that.

    Just had my 2021 SR+ Model 3 for 2 weeks now and I learned that other than applying pressure to the wheel or playing with the scroll wheel to alert the car you are there during autopilot, you can also hit the gear stock down once and it will dismiss the alert message.

    How I handle the "nag" feature: When in autopilot, I always have one hand hanging on the steering wheel, either my right hand in the 4 o'clock position, or my left hand in the 8 o'clock position. The weight of my arm is always exerting a modest downward pressure on the wheel, so I never get nagged at. The big advantage of this policy is that, if the car starts to make a boneheaded move, my hand is always on the wheel, ready to take immediate corrective action.

    • @CfTesla
      @CfTesla  3 роки тому +1

      I agree I have always recommended the left hand 8 o'clock position. Of all the ones I have tried that one seems to work the best.

    A reason for the percentage: static and mobile radars have a % accuracy based on the speed your going at (at least where I live), meaning if you set it to a percentage you can be sure to always be within the margin of error of radars and you won’t get a fine.

    • @JohnVanderbeck

      Nope. Other than in the new UI your actual turn by turn directions will shift to the left if you bring the cameras up. But that will only show you the next turn, and you will lose the map completely.
      Many people want the cameras to auto come up when you put on the directional, then go away when you turn it off.

    Your tires are pretty badly underinflated...they should be 42 cold (when the car has been sitting for at least 3 hours). They will go up to 43-45 once you've been driving for awhile. Having them that underinflated will severely affect your Wh/mile ratings. Side note: when I had my Model 3 in to install the Homelink module, they overinflated my tires to like 46. Fortunately I keep an eye on that sort of thing, and I have a digital gauge with a convenient bleed valve to get the pressure right again easily.

    At 9:55 you said that I should hold the car icon until it says ' a hoy yah a hoy yah. ' and most long time viewers have done. I have not been a long time viewer so I don't know what that accomplishes.
    As a model 3 owner who has put lots of highway, back roads driver, I have noticed that when on autopilot ( auto steer ) on secondary roads there are two blue lanes one on each side instead of the single larger blue line in the middle of the display. Also I get the 'nag' about every 9-10 seconds unlike on the interstate where it is about 30 seconds!
    I know that I am in the minority because I prefer to drive only at the speed limit so I prefer the mileage on the battery and speed to be in miles versus % .
    Another observation that we have spoken about concerning the 'phantom' breaking at yellow flashing lights even when not in use. Whether they are on or off, if you watch the display as you go past the light you will see that it shows a normal 3 light signal light. So to be cautious ( default mode) it sees a yellow light and the red light will be next so it should slow as if to stop.

      The Ahoy Ahoy thing accomplishes nothing. It's just a Tesla Easter egg because it referenced what Alexander Graham Bell's first words on the Telephone where. Ahoy derived from the Dutch word hoi meaning hi.
      A single blue line on autopilot means it's in Navigate on Autopilot and will change lanes automatically. Two blue lines will only keep you in the lane. Often though the GPS data is incorrect and it will cause autopilot to go from NOA, a single blue line to the two blue lines.

    This video was well informed, even with the funny bits. But you did leave out a bit piece of information I feel is worth knowing (unless you're already aware of this.) At 16:36 when you mention how to lock the car, from what I know, that only locks the car from the outside so people can't get into it while you're inside unless you let them in. There is a child lock option for the car that keeps the doors locked from the inside, but of course, that only applies to the rear passenger doors.

    "Froggy day" Seattle town. Got my 1st COVID Vaccine shot at VA yesterday; raining in SD today so won't get to test out 2020-48.35.5 until it stops. Thanks for the drive-thru.

    Percentage is much better to use for your mph. There’s a big difference between 5mph at 20mph school zone than on the highway. Otherwise great tips!

    What are the list of possible voice commands? Has anybody worked it out or any officially recognised commands published by Tesla?

    “You will not hurt the car if you push the wrong way...” Thank you, Cody! You’re the first one who has said that (and, better, demonstrated that!!). I’m waiting on my Model 3, and that one little bit has relieved a TON of wondering and anxiety about me “breaking” my car, before I even receive it. Great job on these videos!
