Kim- a safety suggestion for you. Remove the plastic/carbon stick-on “T” logo from the steering wheel airbag. If you get into a crash, it will come flying off at about 500 mph and poke into the driver’s face like a Chinese throwing star. Ask me how I know….😅
ug why did you have to ruin a completely perfect surprise.
I mean I think some Chevy car have symbols in the same location
@@stevenmilsteen Well take your chances then genius
The seatbelt and the phone gave me mad anxiety being in Australian where you will legitimately lose your license if you’re caught, touching your phone twice, same with seatbelt
One issue i noticed with FSD that is scary is when it is entering on a highway with oncoming traffic, or if its in the first lane and someone is entring the highway. It doesnt quite have my confidance to avoid possibly causing an accident.
Have been together with my wife almost 20 years also 🎉. Seeing both of your interactions, I can feel the similarities in our relationship 😂. Wishing you two many happy years to come.
And if you're on Tesla insurance you can see your rates go up in real time!.. What a Dystopia.
Wow, that is awesome.
Agreed 100%, FSD in its current state should be 3-5k or maybe $100/month
Yes, that would be a more down to Earth pricing. Will Tesla ever drop the prices sometime after betas are completed? Only time shall Tell if they keep FSD as a very expensive luxury item. Or unless you want to be in debt for the rest of your life with this feature. Myself, I don't see a practical reason for having FSD, and not at that pricing.
@@dathyr1 I bet so, they dont want everyone using a Beta once its improved years from now why wouldn't they price so everyone is tempted to use
Its probably going to be a standard feature in the future when everyone else has FSD
Yes, it's sort of strange that they have priced it so high for general use. I really hope they come up with the solution of cheap (maybe even free) for personal use and then higher priced licence for RoboTaxi. It's not like a huge portion of private owners are going to be putting their personal car into the RoboTaxi pool, but it is probable that a large number of those same people would send their car away to find a parking spot, etc.
I disagree. But I also don't want a computer doing the driving. Self driving is for lazy people and people that don't appreciate the thrill of driving.
One of the only to sacrifice their fsd for a youtube video. Thanks alot. One thing I found interesting is that when it came up with the red hands, it didn't make the quick loud alarm as to "wake" the person up or something. Maybe it's different/changed for FSD vs regular autopilot.
Nope, it’s not hard to get put into FSD jail. The real issue is how do you get back in, no? My MY doesn’t like when I put my hands on the bottom of the steering wheel. I also noticed that the blue flash on the screen can be difficult to see in some sunlight situations…that is how I got a couple of strikes. These WERE NOT WARNINGS!!
You hear it yes?
Really appreciate your sacrifice for the demerits for all your fans. You guys ROCK! Thanks for the education and confirming what we suspect. BTW, I also got dinged by using nag defeat, not sure if it is still the case.
sacrifice? bro they make bank doing this stuff
I dont know if you have Tesla Insurance but if you do then you can see that your monthly payment is growing in real time every warning :D
Thanks, Kim, for this personal sacrifice. My 2017 model S does not have a cabin camera, so I'm only allowed 3 strikes. I also get strikes that should be identified as a "software error" but can still be counted as a strike. The only one week jail sentence is a blessing for me. It is much less painful, and more fair than previous rules.
I own a 2017 MS as well and I just got one strike even that my hand was in the wheel but knowing this it kind of make things easier.
@Kim Java You can get a strike by cellphone use, wait for the blue flash then grab the steering wheel to stop the blue flash, but start using the cellphone right away again it will strike you out immediately for multiple uses in short periods of time.
I also got a strike for adjusting A/C controls multiple times in a row, that was last year though.
Kim, thank you, you answered all my questions about FSD Jail. I recently got two strikes with my Tesla and didn’t know what would happen after the third strike..
Thank you, Kim! Our curiosity has been charged once again.
I have been using autopilot and it has some quirks . It seems to alway go off the painted traffic lines. But of course when there is construction there
may be old lines and new lines painted, this seems to confuse it. The center lane driving feels really creepy next to big vehicles and in construction zones when lanes may narrow. I have had it complain about lanes changes on an on ramp when I run out of on ramp and merge.
Hi Kim
We just returned from a 3199 mile road trip in our Tesla MY DM LR 2023. We drove about 80% on fsd beta. It made a couple of mistakes, but I was ready to take over. We drove from south Florida to Pensacola up thru Mississippi to St Louis. On the return trip we drove thru Atlanta on the way back to South Florida. We drove thru Atlanta on fsd with no intervention. We were impressed. As you know Atlanta traffic is bad 24/7. For part of the trip in Mississippi we took an alternative route off the interstate for an hour and a half on a 2 lane highway through the country. Lots of turns intersections and stop signs and traffic lights. One intervention. I doubted the car. It knew what it was doing, I doubted it.
Very impressed with fsd. Worth every penny (12,000)
I'm sold.
Thanks for the great video
Bob
until something DOES go wrong
I've been in FSD beta for nearly two years and you have to really try pretty hard to get five strikes. In my experience, it takes some pretty reckless driving. As far as the driver taking the seat belt off, I'm surprised that's only a warning and not a strike. Driving down the road removing your belt and messing with a coat or whatever is a very dangerous distraction. Also, I've never seen a warning due to eyes not looking forward; always seems to limit to hands-on-wheel.
The belt being undone is probably a strike if it continues for a set period of time. What if someone has clipped their jacket into the seat belt for instance, they need to be able to release that without a strike.
what the hell is the point of auto pilot if you cant do things like that? Worthless crap..and to pay money for it?
So after the week waiting period. Does it start you back up with 5 more chances?
I miss the days when cars were simple and people just simply drove them smdh😔
Cool. I'd also be interested to know if the car loses 'new' strikes if you reboot it right after the strike. This used to flush out the memory before it was stored, for safety score at least. Not sure if Tesla fixed that.
Damn, I should have tried that and tested that when I got my first any only strike that won’t go away!
Older Teslas without cameras inside only give you three strikes. I have had two what seemed to be random spontaneous strikes for a couple of months and I wish they would reset those. I hate to be unexpectedly cut off if I get a third strike. I have had FSD for almost a year so doesn’t seem those two strikes should go on forever.
Another way to get a strike, I had a case where the sun was in my eyes and after 3 warnings pay attention to road, it gave me a strike. And I was holding head angled down, to use eye brows to block sun. That generated 3 Pay attention to road. The 3 warning was autopilot jail and a strike. That started with 11.3.6
you loving that nanny state car? whats even the point if you are micromanaged like an employee
@@Spazzfrom.1989 Obviously safety means nothing to you, so who’s the problem here?
@theodorehaskins3756 ya I wanna spend 40k plus to not own my own features. Get lost lol
Very informative and interesting on what you can & cannot do to self driving regulations. Thanks from Canada 🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for taking one (well, 5) for the team
I just picked one up, but how long does it take for full self driving to unlock? It’s been about 10 days.
And I only have access to enhanced auto pilot, but I paid for a full self.
Great tests! Thanks for striking out for the community!
I paid $5k for EAP back in 2018 when I bought my Model 3 and then a few months later paid $2k for FSD. I wouldn't pay more than $2k for FSD again, so if I ever get another Tesla guess I won't be buying FSD because $15k is insanely overpriced, even $5k is too much!
I've been knocked off way too many times. The worst one. Driving at night on 55mph 2 lane. The car had been giving me stupid warnings about cameras and the car was clean and weather clear. It decided to do a reboot. The screen went black while the car was in motion. I let it slow to a stop. When the screen came up, it had me in Jail. Considering the number of times FSD fails and I take over, the car should be in jail. Fails on uturns on divided highways, fails at lane changes on the freeway., fails to get out of a barrel lane when it's closed, makes random turns against the navigation, exits the lane it needs to turn from, moves out of the right lane excessively. My last week suspended was while in Tesla Service. My wife thinks this car has a software problem independent of the FSD version.
"My wife thinks this car has a software problem..." That seems very very likely. Have you tried taking it in on a service call to troubleshoot *that*?
people driving around you are like, these are the two worst human beings ever 😄
I'm a Tesla investor, but Elon and Co. are kind of out of their minds charging $15k for FSD. It's not even transferrable. $3-5k should be the price. Do a discounted full install to FSD owners at time of update if FSD does, indeed, improve by orders of magnitude in the future.
Thank you for this, I was afraid to use FSD.
Ain't no way in hell I'm owning a car that tells me what I can and cannot do and punishes me for not doing so.. at this point people are just like make me a slave I don't care 🤦🤦
Fun video and thanks for taking one for the team. Also, how can I see PJ do his thing on TV?
He was on tv for about 20 years but left to join me on YT as of December. ☺️
12:04 nothing like playing in traffic putting others at risk in a construction zone 😬
8:42 - 9:21
I’d think such a smart car wouldn’t have let u drive around with ur blinker on so ling 😂
Hello Kim and Pedram! It's always a great Saturday morning when you release a new video.
Yay! Thank you!
@@ItsKimJava You are very welcome Kim. I too love Persian men!
Whoa!..., 😮, I didn't know that it has rules!....😲😲😲, interesting...
It’s almost as if you don’t actually own the car. Eff that.
The car owns you
Semi-autonomous system. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)
I can attest to the eye tracking. I bypass it now by wearing sunglasses. They can’t track my eyes that way and I get less blue warnings.
What is the point of auto pilot if you still have to pay attention like you were driving it like a regular car?
BETA
@@shimmy1984in beta since and still in 10 years. Cheap cameras in use. No real sensors.
@@feuerherz007 oh just stop this
If you get the subscription and you have a strike or multiple and you cancel your FSD beta when you start it up again your strikes are still there.
So if first time you get locked out for a week what happens if you continue to do this? Can you get a longer lockout or another week lockout?
Tesla FSD keeps giving me a false strike even tho my hands are on wheel. and sometimes when im looking at my passenger briefly. and couple times when the car hits a road dip especially before a bridge or tunnel. It's annoying and unreal.
Super interesting, thanks for doing this!
In the 'Sin Bin' for a whole week! A small penalty in reality.
However, some will struggle with that, particularly if they love using FSD.
I bought FSD in 2018 was activated in early 2022… one lesson i learned never pay for promised tech… it is fun to see the progress tho….didn’t buy it again on my next car;) also the other thing is the resell value of fsd is really bad… the market doesnt reflect Elon’s promise of higher value. All that said i loooove Tesla;)
Answers all my questions. Thank you so much for this video!
Regarding Tesla insurance, is it true that "points" are deducted, or the rate increases, if you take the car into certain areas at the wrong time of day/night? A reddit forum seemed to indicate they have to take their gas car to concerts at night or the Tesla insurance would be affected. True?
Just night driving in general can lower your score.
@@jasonfournier Wow, thanks for clarifying!
@@jasonfournier Really? Is that documented somewhere... i.e. by Tesla? Or is it just Internet babble? "I heard that someone heard that someone else heard that..." yadda yadda yadda.
I want FSD to add speed options: let us input a “cruising speed” - i.e. +5% over the speed limit, and a “passing speed” - i.e. +10% over the speed limit to pass another vehicle. FSD already allows us to offset speed limit % for normal driving, so why not allow different percentages in different situations? If I’m doing 70mph and a car in front of me is doing 69mph, it’s a lot smoother passing them at 78mph and briefly being in the passing lane vs. passing them at 1mph and clogging the passing lane for much longer.
Do you really think Tesla will give anyone the ability to programme FSD to break the law?
I almost got rear ended because I was paying attention to the road and I didn’t notice the blue flash and the car slammed on the brakes 😢 be careful out there hope Tesla pays for any accidents they caused by not safety stopping
Do driver takeovers count as strikes? Thanks!
My Tesla Babe in Jail....
I better hone my Viking sword and get a good deal with Elon for your freedom.
I already in touch with the Grimsmo brothers on this Saga story...
Best Regards from Norway
why would you talk on the phone when you have your phone connected to your car?
What is the point of a self driving car if you have to over see all it's driving abilities ? Why would anyone put their life in the hands of a computer and pay to do so ?
It's a beta, while it's still being trained you MUST pay attention, if you don't wanna do that, get an Uber
That's a Spanking @9:47 LOL
Thank you for this test, the community appreciates it. I was really curious to see if the strike out info is available immediately
Im floored you dont have more subs. Its criminal
Thanks for this great test and video. I’m surprised no one else put this on YT. Neither of the two Teslas I purchased have FSD because it is too expensive for what it does. I’d pay $3-4K max.
I’m very disappointed with model S autopilot not performing lane changes using directional signal. Please don’t ask me to pay $6K more. My EQS 580 performs that perfectly and it was included in base price. We also have a 2020 MB E450 convertible that performs very smooth autopilot lane changes.
"I’m very disappointed with model S autopilot not performing lane changes using directional signal." Haven't had that happen once in four years with my M3. A vehicle-specifc issue like that would warrant scheduling a service appointment with Tesla to remedy that?
Great video! I’m 2 strikes in. 1 week is do able.
Very brave having a kid(s) and choosing the white interior 😮
First of alll press of the pedal when the ghost braking activates. Someone is going to hit you if you dont.
If you strike out, will you get FSD back after a certain period of time?
Cancel culture sure is getting carried away...
G'Day Kim+PJ and WOW coz this FSD video exercise was brilliant. Great info that we would love to be a part of. BETA Coming to Australia any year now! imho
That's entirely too much control of something a customer is paying for !
Looking ok for city and highway use put it were i like to drive- ride you have to look backwards almost to see traffic and you watch the road from either side of the car but they should raise the standards of some rules but letting you go and look out all windows so you can go through the back woods areas
AP is great. FSD is amazing on hwy, sucks on two lane roads and is unusable on side roads. Current version is worth $50 a month max…. I’m killing my subscription on the 22nd have done at least 5,000 miles with FSD since may 23.
Kim’s model 3 is sooo tricked out. I want to do the swivel screen from T Sport
Here it is tinyurl.com/4evts2ru

@@ItsKimJava sweet thank you!!
Thank you for your video.
Question did you got it back right after one week or it was more than one week and what happened after did you need to go through the whole driving score or it was automatically got activated
How long does it reset to 5 more strikes ?
Once you said, “If you’re lucky enough to have access to the Beta program………..” I was done at that point.
You need to do this again with the newest update/recall.
This video was so funny I've seen one quite like it!😂😂😂
Thanks Kim & Fam!
Taking one for the team like the legends you are. Thank you!
How long do strikes last ? Forget clear up after time?
Somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
But there is no joy in EVille-mighty Kimy has struck out.
They should be paying us to beta test FSD for them.
Great job! Guys. One of your best UA-cam videos. Thank you very much for this content.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have four strikes I'm almost afraid to kick it in again some of the strikes I don't even really know when they happened. It would be nice if you had a log or something to reference or if they sent you an email explaining what happened. Are you saying if you get five strikes after a week you'll be reinstated. Do you get the latest version or do they keep you back a few? Great video Thanks for doing one like this It verifies some things. Thx ✌️
Yes, it was restored 7 days later.
@@ItsKimJava Hi! can you please explain how it came back, did it just show up exactly 7 days later, or a software update? etc?
I just rented a Model 3 for 3 days in Vegas (for a trip to Utah) and when I learned that this car didn't only have Autopilot but also FSD (!) Shortly after I started using it, I was still learning the ropes and missed the window of the blue flashes and got a strike (D'oh!). I was really concerned that I might put FSD at risk with the owner of the car, but I was very relieved at the end of this video to discover that even if it completely strikes out, he'll get back a week later.
He has the app and monitors for everything happening with the car, so he probably knew what happened. I'm surprised he didn't contact me about it (I'm more surprised that he even let FSD be enabled, for a Turo rental). BTW, it was my first time driving a Tesla and I can see why people feel like never going back to regular cars after doing so! Wish I could afford one.
mine comes on but no longer alarms for Lane departure or displays blue borders lines 😢
Need to know if it actually came back after 1 week or did it take longer
Came back on the 7th day with the message in the cabin saying it was restored.
Thanks for sharing, 1 week in Tesla terms you never know haha
When it stops you can keep pressing the accelerator and it will steer as long as you don't take control
my question is what period of time does the 5 strikes occur? is it 5 strikes ever or per what. After the one week do you get a reset to 5 more strikes or does every strike thereafter cause a loss of FSD.
It’s very easy to strike out if you’re wearing a hat. The car doesn’t like that. I had my hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and I put a hat on because I didn’t want the camera to see my eyes and that’s all it took for me to strike out. I recorded the whole thing. Love my Tesla, but they make you feel like big Brother is watching when using that beta FSD.
Interesting
We used to say Big Brother was conspiracy nonsense. Wait until this is combined with a social credit score and the car limits your driving into certain areas. What about Superchargers refusing to charge if you're on the "bad" list. Lots to think about because the mechanisms are already in place.
Just curious: You need a hat in a car because....? Especially if the beta version of the FSD software in your car has issues with it? If a hat makes the "paying attention" monitor in the car less able to accurately assess whether or not a driver is paying attention - and, consequently, is a threat to others in the car or in cars nearby - your problem with that is... what... exactly? You're helping to train it and to protect others. Do your part.
@@patricksweeney6334 If “my part” as you see it involves helping Big Brother have further control over me, then no thanks. You’re not doing your part by supporting anything that’s going to violate your right to privacy or something as simple as wearing a hat. If it’s not sophisticated enough to be safe while driving with a hat or glasses then it shouldn’t even be in a fully released beta. Having to defend to you my right to wear a hat while driving is an example of that and something I won’t do. I have a right to opt out and I choose to do that instead. that’s MY part.
@@aussie2uGAExactly!
I wonder if all this info about strikes etc is sent to the insurance companies to determine rates. Similar to the devices they have to determine driving habits of drivers. I would like to know if they charge higher rates for fsd usage, since the driver is not in full control of the vehicle?
Who the hell would want a car like this...
What happens if the driver gets head while driving, is that a strike or warning?
Is the picking up/using your phone warning only because it might be tethered via bluetooth?
FSD should be linked to the account (profile), not the car. This would solve all problems. You could even rent a car and have all your preferences with you in the profile.
A single offense will not count as a strike, but If you perform the same offense multiple times during that drive, it will cause a strike. i.e. removing your seat belt multiple times during a drive.
Nice video. What vertical glass smartphone support mount are you using? I can’t find one anywhere and I would like to record some videos. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for all this testing for "when do you get strikes vs warnings".
My question is do all these warnings/strike information get logged and sent back to home base somewhere??? Maybe to determine you are a really bad driver if all this continues to happen.
Also, what does FSD do for warnings or strikes if you get a "Phantom Braking" issue and is not your fault????
It is nice that the system is more forgiving. I do not own a Tesla at this time.
Thanks again for this video.
I was already in the Enhanced Autopilot is fine but probably not Full Self-Driving camp because part of the fun of driving is to actually drive.
FSD is going to make people be lazy slugs who have no skill when situations develope. Just like GPS has helped make people deficient in map reading & navigation/trip planning skills.
Now that I see the in-cabin, Big Brother camera is mandatory, forget that noise. Enhanced Autopilot can assist me but the FSD isn't wortb coat in either $ or invasion of privacy (just like Tesla Insurance keeping track of every drive).
How many warnings can you trigger at the same time, and what happens when you do?
Ejector seats...
And what happens after one week? Does the strike count reset?
Does summon your car from LA to New York mean the car would drive itself from LA to NY?
How would it charge itself along the way?
I recently got my one week suspension after 6 strikes. my question is: when the suspension is over do I get 6 new strikes, one strike or some other number when the suspension is over?
Let me answer my question. When Suspension is cleared which toolk a little less than 7 days in my case, I got 5 new strikes allowed.
Thank you for the great content. I recently got a Tesla Y and live in Murphy, NC (About 2 hours north of Atlanta) I use the standard autopilot for my commutes to work. When traveling in the left lane, there are a few times that the car will jerk into the left hand turning lanes on highway 64/74. Also the car brakes abruptly due to corners and hills. I would be interested to see how FSD performs on the stretch from Spur 60/64 to the Casino in Murphy if you ever get up this way. 😃
Did you get it back?
Yes
