I don't believe I would have complaints about the location of the power plugs since I already have the standard size Strobo Stomp for stage/studio use. I was considering this one for home or travel use give its smaller size and the convenient USB C plug that a computer or power strip could supply, Tonight I was tuning bass and guitar with a Korg GA-1 and got fed up with how it occasionally will not respond to certain bass strings unless you turn the tuners. So I'm probably going to get this one for home or travel use to replace the Korg Thank you for the wonderful review by the way-
Received mine this week and absolutely over the moon happy with it. I thought I was in tune before using another brand with a ‘strobe mode’ but the Peterson literally made my guitars sounds like new instruments- can’t believe how inspiring being truly in tune can be! Haha. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned is the buffer in these. It is absolutely gorgeous sounding. I use a coiled guitar cable, multiple effect pedals and patch cables and effect loop and this brought new life back to the signal. The others tuners I’ve used with buffers tended to compensate for high end loss, but the Peterson sounds like low end is also compensated for. It just makes the guitar sound more 3-dimensional. I don’t know how they did it but a wonderful and serious design.
Why have the power input on the side? Kind of defeats the purpose of having top mounted jacks. They should have put the usb on the the side of the pedal.
Perfect video T800 👍👍Your format is really really great and I love it. Had to laugh again (like every time) at the measuring tape part. And it's really nice when you don't rush the information, like in the beginning of your video, but are chill when you inform us; the relaxing factor also comes through then. I like these tuners. I would have liked it if you were more specific about the differences, maybe with a little table. But off course I can study all three of your video's to come up with that information myself. I think I will go in time for the large HD one and buy an extra clip like you mentioned. I already thought about connecting a microphone myself, but that clip will probably be more convenient. But I guess that all the software and update features are exactly the same on these 2 tuners. Only the large one can take a battery and the very little one only works on those 3202 batteries which will not be my choice. I just want one tuner that is suitable for all kind of instruments. Thanks for taking all the effort! and cheers 😊
Indeed. I struggled to find the differences other than size, battery, and top-mounted jacks. That’s it. It’s the same tuner as the StroboStomp HD but just smaller. Oh, and I think the mute-mode start-up is different, but that will come out on the HD with a firmware update. Yes. The clip will be perfect for acoustic instruments. I really love Peterson Tuners. I know it’s a boring thing, but I’ve gone through so many tuners in the last 30 years and I have never found a more precise and well-built tuner than Peterson. So my excitement, I’m sure, translates on screen. This should complete the Peterson series of small tuners. I’d like to turn my attention to the big ones in the future. But I’ll be back to mics and preamps and advice for the next bunch of vids. Thanks, as always, for watching!
@@TheRecordist It wasn't boring at all; on the contrary. I wonder if these tuners with a clip can be used to tune a piano for the Peterson piano tuners are quite costly. Looking forward to any other of your new video's. Cheers.
Yes. It does have the capacitor relay delay. That’s to stop any pops and clicks when doing anything-even unplugging and plugging it in while an amp is hot. It drains the capacitors of their charge before they cause the pop.
Really? I can get it to almost completely stop, but strings are ringing and as such, they wobble a bit. Try using your thumb to pluck instead of a pick. Also try tuning to your 12th fret harmonics. It helps reduce the bouncy vibrations.
My main question is how big are the notes on it. Like most people, I have to wear glasses and it's a long way down to a pedal board. Are the lettters the same size as the big one?
Thanks for the great review. 🎸👍 Earlier today, I placed an order for a Gibson Les Paul. My first guitar ever, so stoked! Anyway, I knew I wanted a tuner to go with the guitar and my Sweetwater Sales Engineer recommended the Peterson StroboStomp. He asked me which model I wanted and I told him the Mini. I had no idea that the Mini happened to be the 2023 flagship. So happy I went with the Mini. Your video is awesome as it covers everything that this little beast is capable of. So yeah, I super stoked and can't wait to get the guitar and the tuner.
Woo hoo! Congrats! That’s fabulous! You must be beyond excited! You’ve made insanely good decisions on your first go! I’d say you’ll have a great future ahead with gear! Just be vigilant of GAS. It’ll get ya!
@@TheRecordist Thank you much! Gas? What's that? ;) Just kidding, I know all too well with synthesizers. But yeah, I know what ya mean. I'm on the right path in planning, last month I got a bunch of pedals for the synths, but I'm afraid the guitar will now get first dibs with the pedals. ;)
I have not yet played live with this but I find it very fast. The only thing that’s slow is the capacitor discharge relay that prevents any clicks and pops. Like one second delay when you switch back. I don’t find that to be an issue. But your needs may differ.
You should really try the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. Also a strobe tuner with higher accuracy than Peterson. +/- 0.01. Also a super small company and made in USA. When you call them with questions you’ll talk to owner of company. Very friendly guy.
I have their stand alone desktop model in my studio and I have their clip on version for my acoustic guitars and I love them. I’m going to get one of these for my live gigs, although, not the mini version. Cause my eyes aren’t what they used to be 😂
Just got mine. I immediately have the question why in the world did they put the power jack on the side? That just makes the top loading in/out NOT a selling point. The USB should’ve been there. Such a strange decision.
@@TheRecordist yeah. Might be the future. But the power jack on the side completely negates the benefit of the in/out on the top. My right angle power cable (standard ones on the Ojai) takes exactly the same amount of room as my cable (a thin right angle one) does. Such a strange decision. As you say, might be better somewhere down the line. But why not put the usb and power on together (like a Ditto pedal)?
@@MarkCassano thats a valid point. You would email Peterson with that question/suggestion. They try to listen to customers and innovate with those suggestions/requests in mind.
@@TheRecordist Yeah, I asked them. Will see what they say. I also asked them if there is a setting to turn the display off when muted. I also said, minor nits aside, it's a really nice tuner.
@@TheRecordist I did that.... it's as we thought... "The 9V power section & socket would take up too much room on the top. Pedal power supply manufacturers are including USB sockets in their newest products, this is a good use for them." Their customer service is definitely very good. Yes I UA-cam instructions get painters esle and hit poss or neg. Ain't working. Not a fan of all this option stuff. Plugging into laptop to find others tunings. Just like simple. These tuners work really good but they're not true strobe tuners. They just have a display mode that looks like a strobe . There are no spinning discs inside of these units. So they are no different than other tuners that have strobe modes like you said previously
