Peterson Strobostomp HD Tuner Pedal | 3 Different Tunings
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 кві 2023
- Most of the time we tune to E-A-D-G-B-E but Peterson has created several presets that manipulate the pitches slightly. In this video, I'll record the same passage 3 different ways, Equal Temperament (Most common), Sweetened (Peterson's recommendation), and the James Taylor artist tuning (My personal favorite)

I hesitated to make this video because these tunings are SO subtle! I asked my wife to take a listen while I played and she also preferred the James Taylor preset. It’s not supposed to be drastic but it seems to be MORE in tune as you play. What do you think? 🤔
How do you get the James Taylor tuning on the Strobostomp HD? Is it already on there or do you have to download it?
@@paulv.6040 it's already there
I can say….
I am so glad I got one,
Been wanting one for years.
I can say I will be enjoying playing again.
Very nice, very interesting. Thanks 🙏
Great video Chris .
Great video. Thanks
Thank you! 🙂
SBJ = Sweet Baby James
Thank you!
Thanks for watching! 🙂
The video is very interesting. You show that the device has added value, who doesn't want to sound like JamesTaylor?
On the other hand, I had no idea about these tricks, for me an alternative tuning is Joni Mitchell. I'm glad to find this door. It's for a Jazz Bass but I have a J 200 that will be very happy!!!
Thank you !
This SBJ sweetener, where can I find that one for the Peterson Stroboclip HD?
Thanks for that comparison. To my ear the GTR tuning sounded the sweetest on your guitar. Having just purchased a StrobostompHD myself recently, I must say I am disappointed that it doesn’t have an option to show the “cent” value. (After purchase I found that this feature is available on their StroboPLUS desktop unit and on their iOS Strobosoft software) This feature is E-cent-ial when designing your own sweetened tunings that you want to upload to your StobostompHD. So that was a big opportunity missed by Peterson IMO, and as well the tempered glass screen protector should be included with the product and not have to be bought separately. But as far as the rest of the features go it’s a good tuner IMO. I also own and previously used a BOSS TU2 live. Now I am in the process of using the iOS strobosoft to calculate the cent offset for my own sweetened tunings, inputting them into Peterson connect on web and then uploading them into my StrobostompHD. Once their all in it will be great and save me a lot of live headaches. But I do notice that my iOS strobosoft software gives a less steady reading than the StrobostompHD. So yeah it would have been good if the design team had included that in the StrobostompHD. It looks like the lcd panel is not configured to display cents so that means even a firmware update won’t fix that particular deficiency.
And while I’m at it, 😂😂😂, having the cent feature also would have enabled us to easily discover what their sweetened presets actually were instead of just blindly tuning to them, and given us an insight into this area of tuning. Anyway thankyou again for taking the time to do this comparison.
I agree that cents would be very useful! Presonus Studio One has a tuner plugin with the cents value on it. I used it to tune my major thirds to sound sweeter but it might not be as reliable as a paid for tuner with cent values. I use my boss pedal in live situations just to be quick. Thanks for the comment!

They come loaded on the tuner but most of the presets are not visible by default. Use the manual to find the artist tuning you like and it can be enabled! You can also delete or hide tunings that are not useful to you. Check this out: www.petersontuners.com/products/stroboStompHD/presets/

@@heychrisgreen Thank you. Found it just as you said. What a difference!
@@heychrisgreen thanks for the link! =)
Is this digital Strobe Tuner as accurate as the Peterson mechanical tuners?
Sorry I don’t have any experience with the mechanical tuners 🤔 I wish that the pedal tuner had a “cents” readout on the tuner.. that would make it much easier to use and judge the accuracy of it
SBJ sounds great on an acoustic guitar.. JT tunes it that way because he uses a capo a lot and the string thickness varies more on an acoustic guitar than an electric guitar.
👍🏿🤘
Thanks for taking time to make this video. It is interesting to see the Peterson and BOSS tuners side by side.
Although I hear slight differences between tunings, I think your guitar needs some intonation attention. The first tuning was quite off, and things improved by the time you got to the James Taylor tuning. However, all of the examples sounded quite out of tune; especially as you play further up the neck. Just saying.
I have a new Strobo tuner. It's very good. Not perfect, but very good, likely current best out there. Yes, the whole band needs to use the SAME Model and brand tuner or you will be...well, out of tune relative to each other. I angle it up on the board otherwise it can be hard to read. I chose the color BLUE for the display. Could have better confirmation on the unit- never sure if my changes "stuck." Should be able to e.g., Select 444HZ, then hit ACCEPT=OK or something like that. Currently, you select it, then wonder if it stored. I think it does if you do nothing or hit menu. Owners manual is decent but the UI is meh. It does seem to make me sound better so that is the main thing. Some times the display is slow to register the note being played. I keep it in Monitor mode. I like the USE LAST or LAST SETTING feature with regards to the MUTE function. It use to open muted which was annoying.
Prefer boss
James Taylor is definitely better on that open chord.
Sir first off your using a Strat shock most Gibson guitars is inherently out of tune !!! Try a Suhr or Tom Anderson or PRS those guitars are in tune completely! The Peterson is the best !
I have all three, Suhr, Tom Anderson and PRS. My favorite is the partscaster I made with Lindy Frailen pickups, VegaTrem Gotah locking tuners and brass spring claw. ✌️
I read an interview with James Taylor a few years ago, and he said that he tunes it like he does to compensate for how much harder he hits the strings in live shows. He explained that with the excitement of playing live most of us play a Little harder, which makes the instrument a little sharp. So tuning down a cent or two will remedy that, it's the idea anyway.
I thought it was to help when you have a capo.
@@jayartz8562 that's what I thought too. Until I saw the interview.
I still think it is partly why he does it. How many of us actually fret a string as hard as a capo does....? I know I don't.
I haven't used a capo since I first learned how to play, so what would I know.....😂
