    I have 57 that I’m trying to use to record a resonator guitar with it doesn’t pickup much sound unless I throw an overdrive pedal in line and extra cables. I researched a bit and read about some people trying mic boosts such as the fethead, cloud lifter, and SE DM-1. Do you have any opinion on if that’s the way to go

    Thanks for this. I found myself riding my bike in the local wetlands and wishing I had something to record the cicada's, wind in the trees, wild geese on the water etc. I didn't want to invest a lot nor have much gear to carry. It's for spotaneous recordings of nature and other things that I can add to my super newbie beginner ambient tracks that I make purely for my own amusement. I found a buyers remorse one online for around 60% of retail in mint condition. I took it. This review just reassures me that it's fit for purpose, and I may or may not get into field recording more seriously so it's a decent beginners kit that I can easily sell on for not much should I no longer play with it. THe bonus is I have a basic home music studio with another mic for recording my acoustic instruments. I can now also try recording those with multiple mics just to see what happens.

    Do you still recommand the oktava mk12? I dont know which one to choose between the oktava or the at4053b. Can you help me with that. Its mainly for corporate interview🙂 thanks for your video. They are great and you know how to keep your audience captivated

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 2 дні тому

      Hey thanks! Well, the 4053b is a really nice mic and very easy to get. The Oktava MK-012 is also a great mic but Oktava has quality control issues. It’s also a Russian mic. Some people dislike that. That part is up to you. The Oktava is cheaper. But all said in done, not by much. If you DO get an Oktava, and you get a good one (meaning it works and has no noise issues) then you’ll have that one for life. Just keep it dry. The 4053b is a less fragile mic. Better quality control and sounds great. For dependability reasons, I’d choose the 4053b. Hope this helps!

    • @danyforget1081
      @danyforget1081 2 дні тому

      @ thanks it help a lot! I'll pay more, but I'll be sure to have a microphone for a long time 924$+txs vs 590$+txs for the oktava and I was thinking of pairing it with the rode ntg5 for outdoor interview. What do you think of this combo?

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 2 дні тому

      @ with a good mic, any combo would work. Just a little EQ and it’s good. The 4053b went up in price. Or maybe I’m remembering the price wrong. I just looked it up. You’re right. Much much expensive. Let me be clear: if you get a good Oktava, it’ll last you forever. You’ll know you’ve got a bad one right away because it makes a lot of noise. But if you get a good one, it should last you forever without failing.

    So... This morning I half awoke from a crazy dream, mumbling incoherently... “da, da da, fet, fet fetish...TPS, TPS, video” ... My wife was shaking me, trying to jolt me out of my stupor. “Wake up, wake up!,” she shouted, “You’re having a bad dream, you’re stammering, not making sense.” “Stammering, stammering,” I mumbled, half aware. Suddenly, my mind snapped awake. “That’s it, honey, stammering! STAM! I was dreaming that I was about to purchase the Dachman DA FET 47 but it was a nightmare because I had not yet received my pre-ordered STAM SA-87i!” “Damn straight,” she said. “You know the rules. Only one mic at a time! Give me that credit card!”

    The Two mic's used in your A/B test are not even close. The mic you cut the lows on wound up having less lows than the comparison mic because you engaged the low cut switch. Which means they were closer to being the same before you made the change. so that makes me wonder if you can trust what you are hearing in your monitors that made you decide to make the change. But your proximity to both mics are different as you mentioned in the vid. So? .... im running Sterio flat EQ direct to KRK-8inch

    I don't know, Ned, but I think you are wearing the wrong hat? And I can hear you.... ;) If this was made right from the original Neumann schematics, is there any patent issues?? I trust the patent is expired? Of course it sounds great! You appear to be like me when it comes to a pocket knife. They are just too handy to not have on you. You seem to have come to the same conclusion as I have as to size and style. You also never know just what else you would be using it for......such as audio adjustments.

    • @TheRecordist

      Hey, man! Hahaha. Oh yes. The wonderful Three Amigos! I’m not sure about patents, but I think Dachman is safe because they’re not the only ones doing this exact same replica. No one else get sued. Great question though! Oh yes. I must have a pocket knife! I’ve had that one for 20 years or so! I’ve used it in a pinch more times than I can count! Audio adjustments too!

      Yep. You’re absolutely right. The Atlantis is a very special mic. Agreed. The Dachman DA FET 47 is also a very good mic, and will be a top (and much more affordable) choice for a lot of people. But on my voice, the Atlantis is king. Now, I wonder how I’ll like the Eden!

    Crocs story: I used to be a tiny bit negative about Crocs. Probably just like many other people. Then I saw a pair on sale and I bought them ONLY because they were my favorite color, bright yellow, lol! They are now my favorite shoes and because of their simplicity, I think they are a perfect design. I wear thick socks with them, they’re very comfy.

    11:00 Oh wow! You have me thinking now of using my two Røde NT1 5th gen mics for field use. Why? The extreme low noise of the mics combined with the low noise of the preamps in a Sound Devices MixPre should give me a good quality recording of the quieter sounds of nature. It would be a big kit and I’ll need to make some sort of windshield and windscreen, but it would save me a few thousand bucks so I can hold off on buying a stereo pair of Sennheiser MKH 8040 mics. Little bit funky, but hey, I bet it would work great. Thanks!

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 7 днів тому

      Oh yes! It works! The only issue is if you’re looking to pick up low frequency sounds from a distance, cardioids are not optimum. Omni mics are much better at that. Other than that, they’re great!

    • @tybrady4598
      @tybrady4598 6 днів тому

      @ Good point, thanks, I didn’t think of that. I do like fuller sound of omni mics. However, I’m planning to combine the audio with video, so I want the sound to come from the direction of the video, but I’m not set on that. I may still need to consider the Sennheiser MKH 8020 omni mics. Some people might only listen to my videos for relaxation/ sounds to sleep to. Or maybe I’ll stick with the two Røde NT1 5th gen mics if the kit isn’t too bulky and cumbersome.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 6 днів тому

      @ why go for that expense? Here’s an amazing pair of omni mics: Pluggy Omni Mics (Field Recording) ua-cam.com/video/2HKQq4MqyJ0/v-deo.html There’s also the other version called Clippys: CLIPPY Lav Mic Review ua-cam.com/video/1GIkMYMZhj8/v-deo.html Or there’s the LOM ones: LOM BasicUcho Omni Microphones ua-cam.com/video/cAIf6dtvg6w/v-deo.html Or there’s the Line Audio Omni1 mics which I have yet to review. Haha.

    The Pluggy Omni Mics or the LOM basicUcho? Which ones are better?

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 7 днів тому

      I prefer the Pluggys because the low end is rounder and they’re warmer. But if you like a lot of high end detail, then go for the basic Uchos. They record even way past 40kHz.

    The mic you are using does it have the high output installed I heard it’s so you have to use less gain and what the difference about the grills besides the colors and look

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist 9 днів тому

      The mic I used doesn’t have the high output option. It’s the basic model. The difference in the grilles are just the colors and potentially the type of metal. It effect nothing of the sound.
