Anybody who claims Superman isn't relatable has never actually experienced a good Superman story. Beyond superficial appearances, when he's actually handled properly, he's far more relatable to regular people than someone like Batman because he's just a wholesome farm boy with old school American virtues who just wants to help and protect people.

@@Tyler_W I think the interesting part about Superman is that his struggle is not the one to protect HIMSELF - he is, after all, nigh invulnerable. Rather, it's the struggle to protect OTHERS. With his powers, he could easily sit back and live a life of ease and luxury free from any concern. But that's not enough. Further, even with others he has to strike the balance of protecting them without doing everything for them. Stated that way, his goals can seem almost impossible. It's something every parent understands and grapples with.

The thing that Peterson and Klavan are not saying is that value is imputed. When someone says: "The Earth would be better without humans on it," it is a value judgment that could ONLY be imputed by a sapient being, and humans are the only creatures we've yet encountered who fit that definition. In a world without human beings there would be no creature left on Earth capable of appreciating or even disvaluing this state of affairs. The only creatures capable of imputing value to the Earth would be gone.

Technology and morality are not by themselves mutually exclusive. However, for the past few generations, there was a strong focus on technology, all the while forsaking morality and spirituality. Indeed, you are not the only one having an urge to return to basic value that created an homogeneity of society. We can live without modern technology (the Amish are a good example), but we cannot live without morality.

I always thought that superhero movies exist in a no man's land between fantasy and science fiction, lacking the aspirational qualities found in both. In fantasy, the universe essentially has different laws of nature that, with effort, can be used for moral and dramatic effect. In science fiction, this is accomplished rather through an extension of the real universe instead of an alternate one. But in superhero movies, virtue and ability are fixed and the domain of a select few, with ordinary humans as the hapless backdrop.

The entire episode was fabulous. A great rapport between you two.
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." We have nothing to boast of before God. We get into loads of trouble when we exalt our own doctrines above a living God when it is God who, being sovereign and pure holiness, has chosen us, weak and frail and faulty to be His temple. Our earthen vessels is where He has chosen to reside - He wants to be no further away from us than in our hearts. He loves us that much, as though the God of the universe cannot get close enough to the creation He loves so dearly. 'I'll reside in their hearts and write their names on the palms of my hands.' Who can argue with Him on this point? He loves us.
We grow into the stature of Christ. Not an AI machine, not the doctrines of men which are vanity and chaff...no, but into Christ Himself:) Many can't handle that truth so they choose to make up doctrines to abide by. A waste of time and empty of real love.
My fav part of the main episode was JP talking about his son, how to make him unbreakable and no longer fragile but able to withstand anything - and in the process robbing him of his humanity and the very thing that endeared him to his son. The same holds true for God, as He is our Father with the exact same sentiment towards us, giving Himself for us in our fragile state, even encouraging us that He will come alongside us without judgment or ridicule and 'in our weaknesses show Himself strong'. Beautiful and powerful~

The majority used to at least be good and were occasionally but not infrequently really good. With the exception of maybe two movies, everything after the ending of the main story in Avengers: Endgame has just been a hollow, ideology riddled shell of their former selves. I'd be very interested in Klavan's thoughts on the Amazon series Invincible. With a few mild aspects stereotypical of our time, it's as good as it is because it takes the superhero narrative and handles it with a great deal of emotional realism, complex characterization, and a commitment to stakes and consequences, and it does it all while being sincere and without being cynical like The Boys. I think it actually has a soul because the creator of the comic (one of the best of its kind when it was coming out) is one of the main writers and producers. The 144 issue/chapter comic is mostly excellent, too, but the show has been a quality adaptation that proves the genre still has a wealth of good stories to tell if only the people telling them were actually interested in telling compelling and meaningful stories with cool ideas instead of propagandists using them as a ashallow soap box or hacks incapable of telling stories that resonate with the human experience.
As far as the drunken Noah story, I've heard the phrase "he saw his father's nakedness" was an ancient Middle Eastern euphemism that implied that Ham took advantage of his father's drunken stupor by sexually violating his mother (or step mother) in order to shame his father and assert dominance over the family. Noah then cursed his bloodline because if the shame he brought on the family and because his child would be
the product of incest. Assuming this has any bearing on the truth of the text, I wonder how that might fit into Jordan's explaination.

This here conversation is in large part what motivated Dr Moira MacTaggart to join Orchis, initiating the Fall of X comic run. MacTaggart participated in the massacre of the mutants. The remaining mutants ( who once collectively had the ability to resurrect their dead) were livid. The only two remaining who are sticking up for both humanity and mutants is Kamala Khan and Captain America. Iman' Vellani's comic run is doing really well.

Making the morning wake up at a time followed by a habitual routine sets up reflexes that eliminate what is a chore for too many. Habits and reflexes that are good for them in the long run. What Dr. Peterson misses here is that Ham lost his right to the Priesthood. This involved the garment of priesthood that Noah wore. In some Jewish documents its referred to as the garmemt of light which was passed down from Patriachs going back to Adam and going forward to Joseph whose coat caused enough jealously and envy that his brothers attempted to kill him and keep his coat.

The problem with some hero movies is that the antagonistic isn't a big threat, and no one cares if they are beaten because it's anticlimactic, and the hero didn't have to overcome in the traditional sense. A good hero movie example is star wars. Darth vader is threatening, huge, and terrifying. Luke is young, inexperienced and by the return of the jedi, he's a completely different person

Some people (many people to be honest) act like Superheroes such as Superman and Batman among others show their worth by being unwavering and incorruptible and somehow this is suppose to be the highest form of moral, human storytelling. Not everyone actually makes this claim but often times unbeknownst to them they are turning Superheroes into deities, objects of veneration instead of parables of people like us who despite their failings find their way back. The modern Superhero is the lowest form of escapism, meant only to pacify. I don't really think any great storytelling is going to come out of that machine until that inane ideology can be put to rest. I think stories are better when they carry the spirit of what came before without having to be a representation of said thing.

Ummm...no. Maybe some people can't tell the difference, but most can. As I see it, talking about the good Marvel movies up to Endgame, the superhero movies (Marvel anyway) are about making difficult choices and the need to make sacrifices to help other people. It's exactly what we all have to do. Things are just dramatized by them having various powers, which I see as analogous to all of us having various abilities and weaknesses.

Crystals grow when molecules that are alike get close to each other and stick together, forming chemical bonds that act like Velcro between atoms. Mineral crystals cannot just start forming spontaneously - they need special conditions and a nucleation site to grow on.
Nucleation site: tiny crevices where free gas-liquid surface is maintained or spots on the heating surface with lower wetting properties.
Similarly, human beings become capable of passing on the traits of what it is to be human when they are in an environment that allows them to grow as they ought. “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” (Ephesians2:19-22.)

Anyone can look back in history with any excuse for dictators like Mao or anyone else. Western civilization were also had dictators which were monarchies and they still exist today and try to exert power behind the scenes. Groups of people from different countries shouldn't use history except not to fall into the Same mistakes. All people living in a corrupt society have problems even Peterson. In fact, most of them learn about psychology but spend the majority of their time looking and analyzing other people's flaws then their own analysis and self improvement. Alot of psychiatrists are stuck on diagnosis than prognosis. The problem with prognosis is by the time people have fallen apart and have no soul or individuality they end of up as slaves to the system of tyrants. Prognosis would mean you would have to live with a person to recondition them enough to offset a destructive sociopath. And the present system doesn't offer that kind of long term environment and social rehabilitation. Sociopaths are generally fear motivated so they will resist relationship due to abuse from relationships from their past.
