He always comes out with something new for me to think about. He's a good salesman really when he touches on something i want to know more about then cuts it short and encourages you to buy his book.
He made several good and pointed at the problems we are facing as a society. I've read his book and he try to explain things with unique perspective. Really a brilliant man
I feel like the proper ending to the Auschwitz joke would've been better if it was: Jewish man throws his arm over God patronizingly and says, "Don't worry, you had to be there to really get it"
OMG such a definition for Christianity's atheism, that it made me understand my own recent atheism. "The secret core of Christianity is precisely this acceptance of being on your own as a divine gift. What's the Christian's answer when you feel alone, abandoned by God, just depending on yourself? The message is that this is God's gift to you, this is the freedom that God gave us". wow

"Religion is the opium of the people..." is a misunderstanding of the original quote. The full quote from Karl Marx translates as: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people". Often quoted only in part, the interpretation of the metaphor in its context has received much less attention. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium_of_the_people
You also need to consider it had the reputation of Marijuana back then as well. All the best western writers used it to "clear their minds," from Poe to Jules Verne to Conan Doyle to Sartre, in Marx' circles opium was at least a useful tool in a philosopher or writers repertoire

He's onto the key issues with identity politics and maybe the grand issues with society, a smart man but tough to follow with his tick. He mentioned that in the narrow circles Slovenian officials are less anti immigrants than on public. That means he calls to admits that immigrants problem is come up not as he likes to call it "the discrete" event, but a sequence of tries to change the Middle East and North Africa. And by populists claiming that post-communists and other regimes which dominated in Middle East and Africa served challengers to start let's call them "active supporting actions" towards changing those regimes the same populists have to recognise main reason-consequence chain which brought West Europe to the flood of immigrants. 2. Just found him, great satirist on serious complex issues, full of knowledge and wisdom, honest and unaffected, 'cuts through the crap', original and charismatic, good communication between Interviewer and Slavoj, open to new information, incredible clarity and articulation as an ESL, natural comic style. I wonder how they ate the 'Bread and Fish' under those conditions. Today, we sanitize our body and our environment with pharma-products while our health is going down-hill. Exactly. Aura Borealis has clearly not read Strunk’s Elements of Style! The lack of rhetorical restraint on a Zizek video is offensive!!! Good for you letting this person know how stupid they sound three years later. May Cicero guide Aura to terse banality.
@Chodex I'm not sure who are the intolerant liberals that you are worried about. If they are young people then they are very silly. That generalization that liberals are the most intolerant is not true. Christian Nationalists are quite intolerant as well. But these are distractions from the existential threats facing humanity. Cunning people create chaos to have more access to power whatever label they have assumed. I like Zizek because he is very kind, pleasant, funny although he is often proclaiming how hated and horrible he is.
@Chodex I am not upset. If you are not upset about the liberals the why are you complaining so much? Don’t try to project your feelings of anger, fear, and rage on me. Please stroke your own hair first.
This man has always been a true master at marrying a strong, thought-provoking real world concept with a somtimes shocking, provocative and hilarious joke.

I want to jus say that I am Orthodox Christian and a bishop at my church was explaining his reason for believing in God in this way "One cannot say he does not believe in God when he believes in miracles. That I speak and that you understand what I have said. That you speak and I understand what you said. This is a miracle." I just want to say that Slavoj does not disappoint as a Christian atheist. He is as good as the well-read theologians. He understands religion in a way Christopher Hitchens and the flock never could, however many bible verses they memorized.
Zizek vs. Peterson would be like Mayweather vs. McGregor. It wouldn't matter who won; it would just matter that they fought. I spoke to Zizek in NYC last October, and he said it was "disgusting" that Peterson hadn't responded to his invitation. Peterson's recent taunt completes the picture. That said, the debate would be much more painful to watch. Peterson would expend so much painful energy, and Zizek would just enjoy the whole thing. In that sense, Zizek would "win," since the point of a debate is not to win over your opponent but to win over your audience.
I was thinking exactly about this very same analogy before I read your comment. Peterson, Being the equivalent to McGregror, would be the one coming from another discipline (psychology) into one that, while he uses and masters to some degree, isn't his profession (philosophy), thus getting beat by sheer experience rather than skill or strenght.
Sadly, the intellectual scene has become this deplorable spectacle where the clash of egos seems more interesting and appealing to the masses than the actual exchange of political or philosophical views. Instead of pursuing greater knowledge or a different grasp of reality, often, it seems like we are trapped into this narcissistic way of experiencing things that blind us to the truly sustancial of the matter. The words and comparisons that we use when we talk about a possible debate between Zizek and Peterson mirrors what we really expect from the discussion. What most people are keen to see is a fierce dispute rather than a clean debate. Maybe is down this road when ideology takes control and serious conversation vanishes. Maybe we need to stop idolizing figures and start assesing arguments instead. I know that knowledge cant be detached from his source but we should at least try to reach a level of objectiveness. As you said, both autors taunted each other. For me that's the point of no return. If you cant respect your so called "opponent", probably you wont respect his arguments either. Shots were fired and when that happens you cant go back. Intellectual honesty is compromised. This is clearly not a UFC fight. The analogy might be funny or enlightening in some way but no... In this case, you need a moral ground base (thats a basic respect for dissent for me) if you hope to arrive somewhere. Sorry for my english. It's not my first language.
5:50 in my mother tongue language (which is Mizo) we have a term for what you are saying, when a person acts that way, "inngaitlawm chapo" basically meaning: prideful humility/humblenes. This would be a literal translation.
It's really hard to keep track of what he is saying, especially because he talks about really complex things. Anyway, I'm eager to see him debating Dr. Peterson next month

I’m not saying you should accept the ridiculous use, overuse, etc, or even that you should accept their use at all; I’m saying you should consider the nuances, and maybe attempt to sympathize or empathize with someone who actually has PTSD (as opposed to a “snowflake”, or whatever).

@Chodex This is a Zizek thread. A thinker that specifically said he does not believe in tolerance as a concept. Who is persecuting you?
@Chodex I'm not sure who are the intolerant liberals that you are worried about. If they are young people then they are very silly. That generalization that liberals are the most intolerant is not true. Christian Nationalists are quite intolerant as well. But these are distractions from the existential threats facing humanity. That I speak and that you understand what I have said. That you speak and I understand what you said. This is a miracle." I just want to say that Slavoj does not disappoint as a Christian atheist.
@@peliparado94
