    I went with IE's Stage2 & DSG tune for my A3 8P 2.0T Quattro just because my buddy has had his B8.5 A4 2.0T tuned with them for two years no problems. Its been great so far and their tech support for tuning is awesome. Not sure about for the parts side, Ive heard that end has issues from another buddy and from others online.

    awesome knowledge drop! i'm in the school of thought that if you're tuned, you're pushing the engine more than manufacturer spec. in theory this should mean that oil could degrade faster, so more frequent maintenance intervals aren't a bad idea.

    I bought a c2 motorsports 630cc vr6 tuned ecu for my car originally, 2.8 24v GT3582R. For whatever reason it would try and idle at 10 AFR 250-300 rpm. I tried multiple MAF intake piping setups, super long, bends, no bends, straighteners, spent an entire day trying to see if my fuel system was at fault, another for electrical issues, multiple MAFs, pressure tested my whole system looking for leaks... got it to the point of no leaks and was still doing the same thing. It seemed to act up over the compression ratio. When I had a 9:1 spacer in it would start up normally. Went to 8.5:1 pistons and it never wanted to idle proper again. I had a 3.2 throttle body thought it was that, swapped a 2.8 one fixed a response issue but no more... I just messed around with everything. Some buddies told me the compression ratio didn't matter for the tune, is this true? Maybe it was tuned for stock intake manifold and I'm short runner... but ahh I don't know cause part throttle and WOT the car would function quite well but it also seemed like it was dumping too much fuel in, like the oil was completely contaminated with fuel to the point my oil pressure light would come on in 6th gear 80kph. I've gone standalone now because I was pulling all my hair out over this but I was wondering if you had any pointers. I really do believe I had tried everything up to that point.

    tbh i dont think that custom tunes are "bad" or even worst options than off the shelf ones. I tried several stage 2 apr/revo tunes on different cars. They are REALLY conservative. They just do that to ensure it will work in any car with any fuel. For example where i live, in argentina we have pretty decent premium fuel quality (equivalent to 93 oct USA). On stage 2 2.0tsi k03 engines apr stage 2 tunes makes anywhere from 260 to 275hp, being extremely safe on timming and a little bit on boost. On the same car, with a custom tune, and still relatively safe timming and a tiny bit more boost, i´ve seen 290 to 305hp and a much meatier power curve. We tested both cars against each other on the street and there is not even a chance for the APR tunned. The custom tuned is much faster.
    Here the cars scene is much more keen on the custom tunes than in the USA. First because OTS tunes are adapted to american fuel, and second because are spupidly expensive. 400dls for a tune, it doesnt sounds like much in the USA, but here where a "pretty decent" sallary is about 800dls per month, a custom tune that makes your car faster and cost you literally half the money is the only way to go.
    The only ones that use OTS tunes here are the guys with shitloads of money to spend and they just want the sticker "apr stage 2" on the trunk.
    Sorry for my english btw, not a native speaker

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  2 роки тому +1

      Custom tunes are more money generally so the OTS tunes make the most sense for most as their proven to work. Which is why I bring it up. If it's cheaper where you are for a custom tune then that's great for you.

    • @Garcheezy
      @Garcheezy 2 роки тому +1

      @@COMotorsports yeah, thats true. The problem with the OTS prices is that is a "international price", so we have to pay the full 400dls for a tune. For some countries with better purchasing power maybe is even cheaper than in the USA, but the rest of the world (and most of it) it´s actually more expensive. A really good "custom tune" (a base tune for that engine with some modified parameter specific for your car) were i live can cost you around 200dls and it actually gives you quite a bit more power.

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  3 роки тому

      @COMotorsports  3 роки тому +1

      Thats an ecu not tune issue. We've had a handful of ECUs where resistors/capacitors break off the board, in stock form as well. Nothing tune related. Now if someone socketed a chip to your board many moons ago then yes there's always room for error there as you're physically tampering with the ecu. Not the case now a days.

    I'd like to do a tune , I realize it's not gonna be a rocketship all of a sudden but I'd like a little more pep in her step.
    The trans has been serviced like 4x in 130k miles,I guess alot of folks rip on those transmissions because of strength so I don't really want to nuke it either if that's the case.
    Im guessing I'm better off to just send my ECU out to someone.

      You shouldn't have a blow off valve if you're running a MAF sensor which this vehicle has from factory. As for which company, my suggestion is to speak to your local tuner.
