- ECU Tuning is any change you make to your ECU to optimize performance, drivability or performance! It can involve adjusting and modifying many values and settings, but the main focus is usually to optimize fuel delivery and ignition timing. The topic of ECU Tuning is vast with a massive learning curve. This video should get you started on that learning journey.

From an educator, this is the absolute best and most concise fundamental explanation for students that ask this question all the time. Well done!!!!
This means a lot, thank you!
where does someone go to learn? very interested as I've been working with cars ( not much mechanically) for about 5 years and love racing, and somewhere down the road want my own tuning shop and race ream for said shop. but as I was saying where does someone go to learn more in depth, is it schooling? or is it more of an online courses type of thing? appreciate any insight.
@@ZipFigler I think he's a university professor; there are bachelors and masters degrees regarding automotive engineering here in Europe
@@ZipFigler you don’t need any special schooling. Read internal combustion engine fundamentals by john b heywood. Get a shit box and learn how to tune it
from someone who sits on the other side, i concur.
One of the best content creators on this platform, I can't believe you haven't blown up yet, I'm sure your sub count will go through the roof!
I appreciate you brother!! 🙏
Hes about to, trust the process
@@iPixelFace 2nd opinion: not likely. This is my first video but I'm honestly disappointed. I have nothing but compliments for his content, presentation, and ability to break down complex processes...but this did nothing to explain the tuning process lmao.
Title should have been "Engine management explained" and honestly anybody who didn't know any of these basics already should not be in charge of deciding whether they need a tune or not.
I'm far from a pro at anything but I went from knowing squat about tuning, to unskillfully being able to reverse engineer ecu programming(the first step into tuning a stock ECU) in a matter of 2 months all because of a NATS failure which has nothing to do with tuning...
And to prove how much of a pro I am not, last night I discovered the NATS failure was brought on by loose harness pins...I "learned" how to tune for nothing but even i can recognize this video is pointless for its intended purpose
bought a car with ECU tunedup aftermarket, car came withthe original ECU.can i just put original back no problem Or program?checkengine on that’swhy
@@MZopyrus just subbed lmao this dude was right
Wow man, I just took an ECU tuning course that was about ~3+ hrs long and you summarized the majority of it very well in under 10 minutes. Really easy to follow information, and sure some of the terms used later on might throw people for a loop but you explained everything in a concise way while still getting the point across. Was a great way to establish the fundamentals as a starting point for getting into tuning!
Hi, I want to take the course too.. can you help me ..?
Gave me a headache trying to understand them big words :O
What big words?
Two easy questions……
Is it possible that the ECU programming cause the engine to start knocking ?
Is it possible that the factory mapping could become corrupt or partially corrupt and cause engine knocking ?
Thank you !
I have to say, as someone who didn't know anything about tuning before this video, you have a talent for explanation.
It's been so hard to find a video explaining ecu tuning. This is by far the best video I've seen on this, thank you!
Hey man your truly have earned me as a subscriber. You got the answers but without geeking out and going in to too much detail on one concept or mechanism. If you ask me you’re answering questions I have perfectly.
I was looking for a long time on learning how to tune or at least some basic on how it works and you are one of the first person who explain tuning well enough to understand. Your channel is very underrated.
This is pure gold, simply explained basics, and this goes for all your content, feels like season one of an epic show with a lot of room to expand! Looking forward to your future posts!
Learned a ton thanks. Finally someone teaching the basics in a clear way with diagrams.
It's amazing that each of your videos attracts someone to watch them, your videos are engaging and educational. Thank you
Put down the music a bit :)
a lot😅
Just bought a 2020 Focus ST 2.3L Turbo. These videos are helping me understand what is actually happening. Cheers & keep up the good work mate!
Exactly the content i was looking for, straight to the point and factual, complete with diagrams.
I really like the fact that the presenter is giving us facts not opinion trying to educate us on this topic. Great video.
This video was my introduction to you. Following this, i just binge-watched all your other videos!
PS : you've just rightfully earned yourself a new suscriber!
My God in Heaven this was the best tuning video I have ever seen! Wow!!!
Great work!
I'm not too knowledgeable on tuning yet but I must say this is one if not the best and most friendly, easy-to-follow video I've seen discussing the topics. Thank you for this vid/content, Instantly subbed!
Thank you! I appreciate it
I clicked on this thinking I'd learn something new and damn right I learnt something new! Very informative, short and to the point. Wish such stuff was taught in colleges.
Man, great job on this video. Glad I found it. One of the best and simplest explanation of timing I ever saw. Thank you.
Yet another masterpiece! Loved each and every second of that video!
Thank you for the informative and entertaining content, keep it up!!!
Thank you so much!
Hey mate ! Love this kind of stuff. Trying to learn more about cars everyday with very little knowledge already. Thanks heaps ! keep up the great work.
Thanks man! Glad you're learning something from my videos!
@@MZopyrus can I pot each in my car
As a pilot I struggled to understand this course in my Aircraft Technicals. I'll pass this to students Pilots. GOOD AWESOME EXPLANATIONS. THANK UUUUU
Keep going man. When the UA-cam algorithm hits, you will blow up. Your videos are so nicely edited, very smooth, and very relaxing.
I literally couldn't watch you talk about this for hours 👍🏽 good job !
Definitely subscribed after this vid. Super informational and you are very knowledgeable!! I'm currently a MechE student so seeing content like this gives me so much motivation to follow through with school and strive for my passions. Thank you so much!!!!
So glad that I found your channel. You deserve way more followers
This is by far one of the best educational automotive channels on UA-cam, so congratulations on that, man! What is it that you do for a living or how did you get that vast knowledge about cars? Cheers!
I don't normally comment on videos, however, this video and the content was so well explained that i just had to comment. I also don't subscribe to anyone, however, this man has earned my subscription. Everything makes perfect sense now.
I don't know anything about tuning, but completely understood the whole video. Awesome content, congrats!
Great video as always. You explain things very well and I'm so glad that I found your channel.
Keep it up man.
I appreciate you and thanks for the support!
Best explanation of ecu tuning I have ever come across.
Thanks.
This is one of the best videos explaining the fundamentals of engine tuning. Well done.
I'm glad I found this, I've been curious about efi tuning for awhile now and this video helped give me a better understanding of it.
I have been interested in cars for around 5-6 years now and ive always tried to understand what tuning is, i havent left a video that i havent watched abt tuning but thanks to your video i finally undestood in a clear manner
Thank you so much so hard to find someone that actually brakes it down properly for people much ❤
I can't believe I just found this channel. Great work man.
Wow, you truly opened my third eye when it comes to engine turning.
Before, I thought that engine turning was a waste of money that would alter the OEM equilibrium of your engine and that, as a result, you would get ten additional hp, but your engine would blow up in 5k miles.
Now I understand the purpose of engine tuning. It's basically an art of balancing all the parameters of an engine to reach the best performance, which doesn't necessarily mean blowing up your engine
Awesome Video Man one of the best videos explaining how tuning works and what the Technician is trying to accomplish. Thanks dude you just earned a follow from me!
Absolutely the best explanation for anyone curious. Really good content.
I have been educated, been looking for the ABC's of ECU tuning, but this is amazing........
this is the best way of explanation i have seen so far great work!!!
Straight forward and to the point. Nice man. I will soon be trying to learn how to tune. Gonna be reading everything I can get my hands on and watch everything involved with tuning. I won't go back to OTS tunes and my tuner has become more and more difficult to work with and dyno tuning in my area is a joke. So hopefully this time next year I'll be able to at least tune my own car.
It's honestly not worth it bro, most of these places don't let you use their dyno if you paid them for liability reasons. The equipment and software to tune is thousands of dollars (the computer, specialty connectors, multiple software licenses) and not something you should be changing constantly. If you want to tune, get a carbureted vehicle like a motorcycle or an old truck.
The best understandable video i've seen. Please make tons of video like this 🙏🏾 thank u 👍🏾
bro you are seriously underrated, i watched the video twice its so good.
Really glad you liked it 😊
This video was fantastic, you explain tuning in such a simple way, thanks!
Brilliant. After ALL these years, I finally have a pretty firm grasp as to how a modern automobile is configured to run - and- how "run optimization" can me coded !!
Hey Dude, you really are a master teacher, your explications are deep and clear , thanks.
Best content creator for cars thank you for your help
I'm really glad you mentioned that "power runs" are a small part of engine tuning.
Your explanation in your videos are bloody awesome. I learnt ALOT from it. Keep it up!! 😊
Do you think you could make a video explaining the differences and benefits of twin turbo setups vs single turbo setups and vice versa? There's a lot of conflicting info out there, and so far your videos have been some of the most educational videos I've ever seen.
twin turbo is less stressful on your car while single turbo is more stressful you're welcome
Single turbo setup= one snail boi
Twin turbo setup= two snail bois
Companies will usually do one big turbo or two smaller turbos. Having one turbo is cheaper to manufacture and will usually suck in more air than two small turbos. The negative of a single big turbo is that it has lag (which is the time it takes for the turbines to spin fast enough to make boost).
Twin turbos are smaller, but their smaller size lets the turbines get to that fast speed needed to suck in air for boost. The negatives that come with a twin turbo are more expensive manufacturing costs and less power at high RPM.
The way companies fix this is they have a twin turbo setup that has different sized turbos, a small one for low RPM, and a big one for high RPM. I’m not super educated in how it works and I don’t want to spread misinformation, but that’s the general idea on single vs twin turbos.
@@balakay1538there are 2 types of twint turbo configuration. Pararell and compound. In pararell you split the motor in half. Lets imagine an i6 you would have a turbo for each 3 exhaust outlets. In compound you have a smaller and a bigger as you said. Hope this helps.
Manufacturers use them for different reasons depending on what they want. There is no one answere is right to it. Two is obviously able to do more than one for efficiency. Sure there could be 2 tiny ones compared to 1 big one. But 2 share the work. I know some manufacturers use ons for acceleration and 1 for top end speeds. There is various purposes for it. 😊
You are just making complicated things easier thanks man
Incredible explanation, proud of this guy!!!
If you like cars this is a mandatory vid. Awesome vid my man.
Bro, that was PHENOMENAL!
Good instructor you are .. from an old man who tuned cars in the 70s manually .. you are good ..
how... HOW are you explaining soo well... ive now watched a few of ur vids, all of them are sooo good
I knew a little bit about ECU tuning... Now I know more, thank you!
One of the best videos ive watched in my life !!!! Thank you funny thing is it just poped after a music video 😂😂 as a csr guy must say id like to give you my car to work on and take it to the limit
Very nicely explained. You are getting a subscriber for this video alone.😊
Subbed! Quality video mate, this appeared in my recommend and I’m glad I clicked!
Bro your a genius! Appreciate your video and your a true master.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Stratified Tune gang stand up!
Great video!
This channel is soooo informational. Keep it up
Unreal content. So informative and entertaining
Very interesting! UA-cam is a great source for learning in depth.
Great video the best one I've seen for a breakdown on the basics, I've been trying to tune a 2015 XP 1000 with a 1065 big bore kit with air extreme and stage 6 trinity full exhaust with only a dynojet pv3 and power core software. The shop that did the 1065 upgrade sent the tune to go with it but after flashing the ECU with it, the machine won't run and backfires when idling. I'm in the process of making a custom tune for it because puting it on a Dyno is not possible in my area and was told by dynojet any tune I try from any website won't do the machine justice because of all the extreme modifications or upgrades my options were Dyno it or create a custom tune. So I got creative and this video answered a few questions I couldn't get answers to, so thank you
crazy good explanation i couldnt find elsewhere. thanks! subbed
This was so well explained! Great job on the video man, you just earned a new sub.
Thank you for the support!
I actually knew it was something like this but this just mase it so much clear in my head thanks dude
New sub
Best video I seen in a long long time. So well explained 👍
Bro, where you been all my life? Amazing video. I often wondered what tuners did to my car when tuning it. Thanks☺️
You're a really great guy to listen to.
Dude, awesome video! You explained all of this so well
Really great video. Full of knowledge, interesting form. Thank you!
There is definitely nobody on this planet that could explain this in a better way this was clear and to the point best explanation yet!! You whole channel is very instructive and delivers just what one is looking for.... Much love all the way from SOUTH AFRICA!!
I genuinely appreciate this! Very encouraging 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Wow, this was so clearly explained! Thank you!
Awesome breakdown man! Would love to have seen you address some of the software turners use for different applications. Maybe you already did this in another video. Either way - outstanding. Cool vibe and kept in interesting.
So happy to come across your channel and this video, This video is a gold mine for tuning enthusiasts. Happy motoring💥💥💥
so much information compressed in to an easy to understand video, thankyou
Wow, what a great explanation. thanks for taking the time to explain this.
Love your video. Made tuning simple to understand 👏
Awesome video thank you so much, warm regards from Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Thank You for the information. I' saving up to do a Kswap into and older Civic and tuning is gonna be helpful. I'll be watching more of your channel.
Simple and short explanation. Excelent content!
Trying to learn how to tune my own car, this is pretty helpful, thanks!
Good stuff. I’m gonna ecu my 1984 bmw 733i and this definitely helps.
why don’t you have million subs yet wtf ur videos are so high quality
They'll come in eventually 😂
You educated me about it, then set my brain ablaze 💀🔥
Just subbed after this first video I now know I’m in the right place
Just subbed, im sure I will use lots of your videos in the future! Thanks
You actually need 4 things for a motor to run Air fuel spark and COMPRESSION. Great video learned a lot.
Great video and i did learn something. I learned that i have a LOT to learn.
Your information is so valuable much appreciated
Thank you! I've been looking for information on this for a while. I knew there was a rabbit hole around here somewhere but all I was getting from general searches was bolt on a turbo and put in a cold air intake 🤣
Great video man, Im in the process of about to tune my BMW to stage 1. Just got my cold air intake, charge & boost pipe, aluminum coolant flange, and brass bleeder screw. Valvetronic exhaust system with a VRSF intercooler & race downpipe! I can technically go straight into stage 2 with the part mods but going to see how stage 1 feels first this video really breaks down the process and concept of tuning and gave a more clear understanding of whats happening to my ECU. I plan on using bootmod3. 😃
That intro really was hyped 🔥
You explain things so well i just dont understand why people just dont subscribe and like
Right? And it's free 😆
Good Basic information for Tuning , Thank you and I love it
thank you. really apricate and enjoy your voice/tone/pitch.
