2003 Audi TT 225 Quattro. Love this thing. Always loved the 1.8T since my 2003 20th anniversary GTi. I have yet to get it tuned but have all the bolt ons including a front mount. Woke it up considerably. One of the best engines ever built imho.

I'm driving a Sharan 1.8T with a build race block, fully forced internals, bored, flowed deck, race valve train good to 7500rpm. fluidamper crank pully and a whole lot more. TTE300 for now but later there will be a G25-550. Block can handle up to 800HP.
@@torquecars I only lose traction in the wet, in the dry wheelspin starting from 6000 rpm in 2'nd gear to 7500. It's quiet a heavy car so the power is good handling. I don't remember they sold the Sharan in the US. Of course I have upgraded brakes, single mass light flywheel with upgraded clutch, replaced the tiny stock intercooler with a much bigger version. Deleted all the EGR, 2'nd airpump and other obsolete engine junk. Peak boost is 1.7bar / 24.6 psi. 560cc injectors, R8 3.0T red top coils. The stock crankcase has been balanced as well, all new race bearings for better oil flow. The car has a much stronger diesel gearbox with upgraded driveshafts to handle more torque. Upgraded duel inlet and outlet springs and race valves. upgraded cam followers ARP heads and bolts, a stronger water and oil pump. Race distribution belt to handle the torque. catch can without venting to air, DW 65V drop in fuel pomp. ST coil overs back and front and probably whole lot more . you can check my channel with the 1'st engine start after new build and a few dyno sessions.
I have had a S3 210bhp std and tuned with revo to 285bhp many years ago. The 210-225 bhp versions were aluminum blocks and lighter. Best engine I have had. Forge Motorsport had some good intake upgrades aswell.
Stage 1+ spec Desert Green Pearl 01 MK1 225 AMU big plans for this car, super fun daily, 3 Angle valve job for better flow and upgraded DV currently mapped at 273whp 275tq hopefully down the road finish all the bolt ons re map to stage 2+ maybe a custom map to level out at 300whp 300tq ✊🏻! Beautiful motors, considering coming from the VR6 world!
I have a 02 Audi TT 180 Quattro with the AWP engine. Fun car, haven't done much besides a nuspeed intake and silicone hose pcv kit. Turbo inlet with a turbo silicone breather kit and fmic with forged diverter valve and new n75 along with a down pipe are on my list so I can remap it with some decent results. I plan on a tranny rebuild and clutch way before the map though. One thing I can say is the ko3s feels great comes on fast and hard but definitely feels like it's being choked up a lot by the stock inlet and outlet (down pipe) side of things getting to the upper rpm range. Low end torque is great though for daily driving around the city.
I have a 2005 MK4 VW GTI with the 1.8T I had an injector tip blow off and washed the rings out. This car dyno'd 351 hp last summer as per the previous owner's dyno sheet and my goal is to build it to make 450 hp reliably and efficiently. Reliably meaning I expect at least 150,000 miles with only routine maintenance.
I just bought the passat 1998 1.8t 20v yesterday, can't wait to tune it, the first tune is gonna be the exhaust, and this video is perfect for the preparation of the second tune which is the stage 2, ty for the info man, this vid helps a lot❤
My second mk1 golf was a GLi lol. Was 1977 with small tail lights and chrome around the windows. First it was painted the wrong colour then a dude welded the engine mounts in too low meaning first start shook it to pieces. Good times. Still miss that car. Second paint job was Porsche polar silver. Sky blue in sunlight. Loved it loads.
I know and to say my cars 18yrs old,8 owners but been well looked after. Paint work needs help but strong engine and body. Going to get front inter cooler,3”downpipe and alloy manifold. Car holds 16psi all day and pecks at 21-22 psi.
I have a 4x4 Skoda Octavia 1U5 1.8T 20v ARX engine code. Currently at 190.000 km, still on factory K03s turbo and factory fitted clutch. I am the third owner and the first owner claimed to the second owner that he had the car remapped to 200 BHP.
Wanting a mk1 Skoda Octavia again! I had the SLXi turbo and missing it already! Back hunting for a VRS😢 1.8 turbo is my fav! Mk1tt was awesome aswell loved it!
Just bought a 2001 Seat Ibiza Cupra with this engine. It was already tuned, so I'm looking at just fixing the car up and if I end up keeping it I'll see how far I can push it. These cars are rockets just from the tune alone.
S3 8l driver here. Got airtec intercooler, stonger rods, link ecu management system. Zinram 3" exhaust with valve. Original turbo running 272hp 380nm. Realy like the power but will probaly get a hybrid turbo.
Great video. My sleeper 1.8T is flowing 385g/s of air. I’ve worked on reliable power objectives. My remaining concern is the OEM gearbox. Any plans for a video? Keep it going!

Right now I have a 2004 b6 a4 that’s got a ko4 turbo with apr stage 2 tune and other supporting mods. I just fixed a boost leak so I’m enjoying the car making full boost but I do think the car has more potential.

2001 wolfsburg jetta 1.8t with frankenturbo f21 and 550cc injectors, eurodyne maestro 7. Still hunting for shorting injectors which is making me crazy but we'll figure it out!!
Cool video mate, I've watched you before and like what your doing. I got an a4 1.8t bex. Some idiot had put a k04 on without tune or supporting mods and it blew its self up. I am putting it right and have put a k03s bk on, new waterpump, thermostat, proper fully synthetic oil, changed the timing belt plus tensioner. New solid front subframe, brake calipers on the front, discs, pads on the rear. Getting a bit of overboost still, but will be replacing n75 for standard vag part. Really good cars if looked after properly.
It depends on what you need, personally I avoid those with a DPF as I do lots of short journeys. The TSi is better suited to me and I like the wide power band but my 2.0TDi pulled like a train and gave great fuel economy. With the same power the TSi will generally win in a race but the TDI running costs are generally lower and more reliable.
I have polo 9n3 gti. R8 Coil packs, water meth inj, full exhaust, hybrid turbo, fmic etc. Im at 312hp and 444nm. Stock internals, original clutch, 220 000km.

got a mk4 golf gti with the 1.8T and i love the stock power. i also own a quattro TT mk1 and that car even more fun. i wanna start modding my 05 audi A4 because its also quattro. I wanna see if maybe i can put the same tune as the mk1 TT in the A4 because the mk1 TT quattro makes 225 hp or sum with the same engine as the A4 that only makes the 170hp
2004 VW Jetta GLI 1.8t. Converted clutch to single mass, 2.5in exhaust from the converter back, ECS coils and Cold air induction. Rest of vehicle is stock. I live in the US and wish to know where would be a recommended location to get remap of the ECU.
Thanks for all the great info! Very useful when I am about to order parts for my 05 mk4... going K04 and shooting for 300hp goal. It has been so much fun removing the motor and breaking everything down. Doing some wire tucking and about to replace the main and rod bearings as well as piston rings. Looking to make it a great crater road weekend car. Do you think upgrading the fuel pump and injectors is essential to reach my goal?
1997 Audi A6 C5 AWD Quattro with the 1.8t 20v engine(code AEB) with 150hp and 485.000km. Still on stock by the factory with the ko3s turbo and I want to put it like 250 because i don't think the engine will go further with my following predictions.
Very good and explicit ! Just found this video. Quality info here. I've got 2 2000 New Beetles both are 1.8T 5spd. One the body is trashed the other the engine is spanked. Making 1 good one out of two. Ibelieve it's the APH head, where does that fall?
Just picked up my second 1.8 20v in the Mk1 TT Quattro 180. Previously had a Cupra BAM and fell in love. After putting the deposit down after hardly driving it I feared the trip home would be as smile inducing as the 225 but even with the faulty N75 it’s got a good grin factor. I’m wanting to do a little built with it and I’m just wanting to know if the AUQ (I think that’s mine) has VVT and K03s?
AH cool, good to meet you my friend. It is looking great. What is your spec on this? It sounded really nice as you left the show, sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you there.
I have an 01 Audi a4 1.8t FWD 5 speed MAF-less with a big front mount intercooler, atmospheric blow off, K04, methanol injection with 550cc (@3bar) injectors fuel pressure is stock 4 bar and upgraded fuel pump. Car currently has about 250hp at the wheels. Going bigger turbo soon, already have the parts just need the time. I personally did the tuning with Eurodyne Maestro. I also have an 04 A4 1.8t didn't do much to that one yet, and a 2014 A4 2.0T running a Intergrated Engineering stage 2 that my wife drives.
Nice spec, you are clearly a fellow Audi fan! Any traction issues? Nice to have you along for the ride and thanks for the support. I've got plans to cover these engines in more detail so stay tuned.
Who needs first gear anyway. Have you thought about a differential upgrade on that? It should help with traction, you'll probably find it's just one wheel spinning up most of the time.
@@torquecars I'd love to put a better differential in it! Unfortunately that is way out of my budget. My car didn't come with traction control but it was equipped with the EDL, but since my abs module is shoot it doesn't work. From my understanding it will apply brake pressure to the spinning wheel to force the tire with grip to get more torque. I do have another ABS module, just haven't put it in yet.
I really enjoy your videos I have a 1.8t mk2 audi 8p could you do a video on this engine as well 😊 you do amazing videos keep it up you are gonna do well !!
Got a 2009/2010 Skoda Octavia estate, with one of the Audi TT bam engines in it & looking for different upgrades I could do to the engine.. just ordered any induction kit off of eBay, but any suggestions what else I could change on it to increase torq or horse power?..
what is the headgasket thickness ? if i planning to use forged pistons etc, 600hp range is the goal. Do i need cometic or athena gasket ? or oem elring is fine ?
Hello Sir, This video was helpful to me. I live in India where the car culture is touching the peaks now. I am planning to buy Octavi vrs Mk1 which comes with the same engine which the video was all about. I need your further assistance to upgrade my car and will surely be needing parts for it. Please help me with it. Thankyou
Brand new in to tuning, just started to find out there's formulas for choosing turbos and such, but i've got a 1998 1.8t quattro audi c5 sedan, pretty heavy car tbh, although i'm still dedicated for it to make 300+hp, and i will be trying my best to figure out a way to get a bigger turbo in it. Still don't know if i'll need a IC or better injectors, practice makes perfect haha. Any tips would be much appreciated:).
Good video. I have a seat leon cupra r mk1.its a stage1 with all stage2 bits on.she is a fast car but id like to hit the 300bhp mack but in a sath way.
Had I 04 passat 4mo with a decent amount of work, stage 2 ra4 clutch conversion, ko4, 550cc injectors, 5 bar fpr, fmic, stage 2 tune with a local company. Full evap delete and and cold air intake with a box to cover the heat from the turbo and downpipe. Man she was mean sleeper that's for sure. But sadly trying to find massive boost leak led to a bad rear main seal. Before I could get to fixing it I made the stupid decision to race a car worker and through a hard misfire in 4th gear at 22psi and blew the motor. Just picked up a bone stock 03 passat with low miles but sadly it's fwd so I'm limited on how much power I can put to the wheels this time around
I've got a 05 Audi tt mk1 180 FWD but is mapped to around 210bhp. Anyone with the FWD versions the traction control issue is a big thing, my wheels spin like crazy if I floor it at lower speeds.

I recently got a Leon 20v cupra and it’s solid but there’s an engine light. When I scanned it it said the MAF signal is too high. Do you think cleaning out the maf will help or would you replace it? It’s at 120k miles
I am actually talking about the "entire engine block assembly" for ALL 1.8T engines but I had to go with the weakest common denominator for what is a very general introduction guide to tuning these engines, otherwise people will complain that my advice broke their engine or they didn't achieve the power I told them to expect. (NB: We include Seat and Skoda brand cars with this engine here in the Uk also.) Most will see power far above 350hp on this amazing engine without any problems at all usually around 500-600hp in my experience. I have a few reports from our members of issues around 400hp but these seem to be the exception rather than the rule and when I look into it there were other factors involved, typically poor tunes or low quality parts. I do tend towards a cautious approach to upgrades, so if your target is 350 don't worry strengthening anything, if you are going higher you need to do your research carefully especially on the parts fitted inside your block. I am working on some more in depth guides to these engines especially since there is more data and information for me to work from now. Regionally there are quite a few differences. Your comments and pointers will certainly be taken into account in the next video and I thank you sincerely for taking the time to pass this on to me.
Hi, nice video , I have a question, if I install a solid mass clutch instead the floated bi mass clutch could it generate more vibration or any issues? Audi a3 1.8T 8L
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the support and encouragement my friend. You will get more vibration, but these engines are fairly smooth and the transmissions are fairly strong. Ask around and see what feedback you get from the many forums, personally I would go for it but not too light on a road car.

I'm driving a Sharan 1.8T with a build race block, fully forced internals, bored, flowed deck, race valve train good to 7500rpm. fluidamper crank pully and a whole lot more. TTE300 for now but later there will be a G25-550. Block can handle up to 800HP.
That sounds like a real beast of an engine. Do you have any traction issues from that setup? Sounds amazing.
@@sniperviperman6400 somethings don't add up in you parts description here.
@UngluckInc I read through his build list, and I see nothing out of the ordinary. Why don't you be more specific with your criticism?

I will add this to the production list for you, they were pretty popular engines, and thanks for supporting my little channel.
@@torquecars No problem, i only just found your channel a few days ago, its good stuff mate, very interesting
Thanks for your support and encouragement my friend.
Wow what’s done to it?

14+ years, 260k+ miles at 450-600whp fuel/boost depending in a MK1 GLi
My second mk1 golf was a GLi lol. Was 1977 with small tail lights and chrome around the windows. First it was painted the wrong colour then a dude welded the engine mounts in too low meaning first start shook it to pieces. Good times. Still miss that car. Second paint job was Porsche polar silver. Sky blue in sunlight. Loved it loads.

@@torquecars first gear just spins but second gear hooks.
Are there true differences from say an audi 2.0 is vw 2.0..? Injectors, turbo, etc?

Hi I have one Audi A3 1.8Ts quattro 180 hp. Model 2000. Engine kod AJQ
which upgrade turbo can i have. I'm thinking about one K04. which K04 turbo fits my engine. Thanks 🙏
I recently got a Leon 20v cupra and it’s solid but there’s an engine light. When I scanned it it said the MAF signal is too high. Do you think cleaning out the maf will help or would you replace it? It’s at 120k miles
you talking about the conrods the block it's over 1000 horsepower rods 400 Newton metres is the max then it will bend
I am actually talking about the "entire engine block assembly" for ALL 1.8T engines but I had to go with the weakest common denominator for what is a very general introduction guide to tuning these engines, otherwise people will complain that my advice broke their engine or they didn't achieve the power I told them to expect. (NB: We include Seat and Skoda brand cars with this engine here in the Uk also.)
Most will see power far above 350hp on this amazing engine without any problems at all usually around 500-600hp in my experience.
