Everyone is telling you about all of Kevin Kline's movies which are so good...love Soapdish! But, he's also in one of the most heartbreaking movies, Sophie's Choice (along with the amazing Meryl Streep). It's a hard movie to watch, but well worth it.
Kevin Kline gave a ferocious performance in Sophie's Choice. (It is also one of Meryl Streeps most astonishingly amazing performances.) Another Kline film I absolutely love is The Emperor's Club. It is very underrated, and usually overshadowed by Dead Poets Society (because both movies are about a teacher at an exclusive prep school), but The Emperor's Club is definitely worth a watch.
Such a wonderfully underrated comedy. I've adored this movie since the first time I saw it as a young teen. Dave's speech after firing Bob about feeling powerless to help the country just feels more real as time goes on. I hope everyone strives to be like Dave in their lives: pleasant and selfless and finding joy in the happiness of others.
"Silverado" (1985) is a good, solid western starring Kevin Kline and with an excellent supporting cast of Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, Linda Hunt, and Brian Dennehy: if you are now ready for more Kevin Kline. But you can also find Kevin Kline in the story of a group of baby boomer college friends reuniting after 15 years who gather together for the funeral of yet another of the old group (corpse played by Kevin Costner). Costarring Glenn Close, William Hurt, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Berenger, & JoBeth Williams, this 1983 comedy drama has an outstanding sound track of old time rock and roll. Oscar nominated for Best Picture, someday watch "The Big Chill".
The fact that she didn't realize Kevin Kline was playing both parts at first, or that he had played Otto in A Fish Called Wanda, is a testament to his talent and skill. Next, she should watch French Kiss.
When i was a little girl my family went to an Orioles game and they happened to be filming the scene of Dave throwing the 1st pitch, so I'm in the stadium somewhere.
Unbelievably cute when you didn't know they were the same actor, great fun watching as always! I hadn't seen this movie in a long time, it's like watching it with a friend!
Ben Kingsley(Vice President Nance) won an Oscar for "Gandhi." Ving Rhames(Secret Service agent Stevenson) is also great in "Out Of Sight," with George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, Don Cheadle, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Ever since I stumbled across this channel I thought 'Hmm, Dave is a movie that Cassie would love...' and I'm glad to see it show up. A wonderful and charming film.
Cassie you're not the only one who "wants a Dave" for President i.e. someone who doesn't put their own interests first, and who is definitely NOT a criminal.
Kevin Klein won an Oscar for playing Otto in "A Fish Called Wanda." Very good actor. The chemistry between him and Sigourney Weaver in "Dave" was outstanding.
Bright Angel, Miss Cassie, you're 100% right. We desperately need politicians who are like Dave. Being nice to others, showing compassion, being humble, and helping others when needed are all attributes of a selfless person. Many people love living a life of greed and power and care less for the greater good of others. Serving themselves instead of the people who they should represent. Dave is a dream we all wish for in our hearts for our country.
Well, that's an interesting detail I had forgotten - Nance is sworn in as number 45. So, the fictional former shoe salesman is president, and the real former president 45 is now literally a shoe salesman.
Cassie, I wondered if you'd pick up on Otto. So glad it was "after". Great action/comedy with Bruce Willis called RED. Also the sequel RED 2. All star cast, and I'm not kidding. Invite Carly for this one. -Thomas
I'd recommend "Life as a house", "The Big Chill" and "Sophie's Choice" as other good Kevin Kline films. And don't worry Kevin Costner in 13 Days plays a great role, and that should also segway great into his role in JFK.
One of my favourite movies! Severly underrated! Also, all the cameos are due to the fact that Ivan Reitman is the director and they were all in his previous movies (Beethoven, Kindergarten Cop). And yes, that sandwich looks AMAZING.
I can't believe you didn't mention that the secret service guy was Marsellus Wallace from Pulp Fiction. (he looks odd with hair, but that voice is unmistakable) Oh, and if you want another role from 'Dave' you like, invite Carley over and check out 'French Kiss' with him and Meg Ryan. ...you'll both love it. It'll rank ALMOST up there with a Kevin Costner movie. :)
This has been one of my favorites for close to three decades. My wife and I watch it a couple of times a year. Had a lot of fun watching you react to it.
I've seen this movie more than a few times over the years, but I was pretty young when it first came out, and clearly it's been a while, cause I'm just now realizing that was Laura Linney playing the secretary, wow. I smiled big when I saw this thumbnail, cause I knew this would be a fun and sweet movie for you Cassie, and watching you enjoy a feel good movie makes me feel good. Catch you on the next one 😉
As soon as this showed up in my feed I got excited. I love this movie, but more than that, I knew instantly that Cassie would love it and will have a great reaction.
Though it is out of my normal genre of movies, I watched this back in the 90s, and though it almost never came up since, I've never forgotten it. When I saw you were reacting to it. Must See!
In 1993, when this movie was playing in the theater, there was also a movie called Rudy, starring Sean Astin as a college football player. At the same time, Rudolf Giuliani was running for Mayor of New York against Democratic incumbent David Denkins. Bill Clinton was photographed wearing the promotional hat for the movie Rudy while jogging. This gave some Republicans a big laugh. So Clinton switchhed to wearing the promotional hat for this movie.
"They don't actually do this in real life, do they?" They do this all the time. Politicians, celebs, they do this and a lot more that can't be said here.
Oh my god. You don't have special knowledge - you haven't seen anything the rest of us aren't privy to. Almost nobody looks so similar to another person that they can fool an entire crowd. Don't embarrass yourselves so easily trying to force the Real World down to match your desperate delusions.
I just realized that, at the end of the movie, when Dave ran for office and it came out that he was dating the former first lady there would be pictures of them together. People would notice that Dave is almost a clone of the former President. That would probably cause some issues.
Oh wow, I've had that theme tune stuck in my head for 25+ years! It was used in a TV advert but I couldn't remember what for. Now I finally know where it's originally from. Thanks!
Here are 2 suggestions for future movies: 1. A Walk in the Clouds 2. The Sea of Trees "Dave" is a classic that I saw when it first came out. Truly a "Feel Good" movie.
I just showed this film three nights ago to my 93-yr old mother for the first time of her seeing it. IT's one of my all time favorite movies. She loved it!
I saw this movie last night with my family. I couldn't stop smiling for the whole film, and laughing with a warmed heart. Such incredible acting too! Definitely what I would call a feel good movie. And we need more films like this!!
Never judge great actors by their characters. This shows Klein's fantastic versatility. One of my favorite political movies along with Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and another presidential romantic comedy The American President that came out 2 years after this one.
Yes This was a good movie. Might I recommend a few others around the same release time? Sneakers with Robert Redford and Ben Kingsley (The actor who played the VP in Dave), Searching for Bobby Fischer, Defending Your Life.
Love Dave and the ideal of an actual civil servant who honestly just wants to help people. Ivan Reitman really progressed as a Director but from Stripes, to Ghostbusters to Kindergarten Cop, he always managed to balance comedy with heart. I'm happy to see that his son is carrying on that tradition. Cassie, be proud of the your fellow Canadian.
It's raining here. This wholesome, funny movie takes me back to my childhood like a warm blanket. Your reaction is so sweet and it makes it even more enjoyable. Like movie theater butter on, well... popcorn. Love the channel and looking forward to 13 Days!
Ving Rhames who played the secret service man was in Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise, maybe all of them, at least more than any other actor. I don't think you recognized him but his voice is unmistakable .
I think you would love this other movie and love theme, a hidden gem, please dont miss it - Continental Divide (1981) Helen Reddy - Never Say Goodbye (Love theme from Continental Divide) I dont know if you will look back & see this message but i just have a feeling from movies i see you have watched that you will love this movie Dave reminds me of it as it was a great feel good movie which brought 2 people together who would otherwise likely never have come together and i just really think you would like it
Good choice. This is a real underrated gem, and a great story. Kevin Kline is one of my favorite actors - he was the bad guy Otto in A FISH CALLED WANDA. A couple others he was in you might like are THE BIG CHILL (1983), SILVERADO(1985), I LOVE YOU TO DEATH(1990), and WILD WILD WEST (1999).
It's funny that she found what Oliver Stone said about a conspiracy funny given that she almost certainly does not know that 1) who Oliver Stone is and 2) that Stone is a conspiracy theorist particularly regarding the Kennedy assassination.
Interesting that a whole bunch of movies came out in the 1990s that were either presidentially themed or had the U.S. President as one of its main characters: Dave, The American President, Air Force One, Independence Day, Nixon, JFK, My Fellow Americans, Primary Colors, Wag the Dog, Absolute Power. Even Mars Attacks.
a huge fan from australia, your are my favourite of the reaction genre, you have watched all my favourite movies, I have enjoyed watching them again with you, I love your reactions, emotional ups and downs. Thank you very much
I love this film and the whole cast. "Bob Alexander" Frank Langella was a real hunk early in his career. His performance in the lead role in "Dracula" on Broadway had the ladies swooning. Another great Kevin Kline movie you'll like is "In & Out" (1997). Other fun POTUS films I know you'll like are "The American President" (1995) and "My Fellow Americans" (1996).
Thank you, thank you, and thank you for selecting "Dave". If there can be anything more enjoyable than watching this movie, it's watching the first time reaction of someone else watching "Dave".😊 I love the quiet little scenes that outline Dave's personality and character. Dave bicycling home, his signature secret sandwiches, and his scrapbook of his presidential adventure. It was ginger funny when the president, at the public event, made you decide that he needed to work on portrayal. In the police pullover scene, the officer thought the first lady "needed work". And all those cameo performances-wow!
I have loved this movie ever since it came out. To this day, whenever there is talk in the news about balancing the budget, my best friend and I turn to each other and say "they just need to call Murray and get some hoagies up in here". Problem solved.
Thank you for finally watching DAVE. I've asked plenty of times in the past for you to watch and I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's a favorite of mine. Here's a list of films that you have to watch with Kevin Kline. Silverado 1985, has a HUGE cast of actors you know well from all the films you've watched previously. In & Out 1997, The Big Chill 1983, Cry Freedom 1987, Kevin's first Feature film Sophie's Choice 1982, and Grand Canyon 1991, All good films with Kevin Kline that you will also enjoy. You can watch all of these with your sister. She'll enjoy them too.
This is one of my favorite movies! So happy you liked it too! If you want more of Kevin Kline as a good, likeable guy. Try Silverado. A western, where Kevin is a guy who seems to take life as it hits him. No worries. And John Cleese has a role as a very British sheriff in a small town in the wild west. So they meet again, as in A Fish Called Wanda. But in the Silverado case, Kevin is the likeable guy. And John is... well, not unlikeable, but... going by the book.
Yayyy! So glad you reacted to this movie. My husband and I saw Dave in theaters on our first date, when we were 16 and 17 years old. I remember thinking how ironic it was we were going to see a movie with the same name of the guy I'd just broken up with, so I could ask my husband out. Lol! Clearly, I made the right decision, as we're still going strong almost 31 years later. Love, love, love this movie and your channel! ❤

“Uh oh, where your friends go BOB!”😂❤ High five!🙌🏼
"I would have taken a bullet for you." Such a good line.
33:35: "How can this end?" -- the best part of every narrative!
I love Silverado so damn much. Such a great movie.
Total agreement on Silverado - good flick!
The fact that she didn't realize Kevin Kline was playing both parts at first, or that he had played Otto in A Fish Called Wanda, is a testament to his talent and skill. Next, she should watch French Kiss.
Dave was weirdly one of me and my brother’s favorite movies as kids. That line, “Thank you for being here, Ellen” always cracked us up.
Jackson.
The next movie that Ben Kingsley was in after this movie was Schindler’s List
Ever since I stumbled across this channel I thought 'Hmm, Dave is a movie that Cassie would love...' and I'm glad to see it show up. A wonderful and charming film.
5:35 when she realizes it’s the same actor…..Priceless💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦
Cassie, we love you, but wow that took a little bit longer than I would have expected.
Cassie you're not the only one who "wants a Dave" for President i.e. someone who doesn't put their own interests first, and who is definitely NOT a criminal.
Amen to that.
Being nice to others, showing compassion, being humble, and helping others when
needed are all attributes of a selfless person. Many people love living a life of greed and power and care less for the greater good of others. Serving themselves instead of the
people who they should represent. Dave is a dream we all wish for in our hearts for our country.
"They're not after me. I'm just standing in the way." 🇺🇸
Well, that's an interesting detail I had forgotten - Nance is sworn in as number 45. So, the fictional former shoe salesman is president, and the real former president 45 is now literally a shoe salesman.
Cassie,
I wondered if you'd pick up on Otto.
Life as a house . I remember my Dad watching it… I never saw the man cry but that movie made it happen
Dave is the president every country deserves.
One of my favourite movies! Severly underrated! Also, all the cameos are due to the fact that Ivan Reitman is the director and they were all in his previous movies (Beethoven, Kindergarten Cop).
And yes, that sandwich looks AMAZING.
Oh, I love this movie! We quote it often in our family. ❤
"We're walking, we're walking, and we're stopping." 😂😂😂
The music of this movie is SOOO comforting.
I can't believe you didn't mention that the secret service guy was Marsellus Wallace from Pulp Fiction. (he looks odd with hair, but that voice is unmistakable)
Oh, and if you want another role from 'Dave' you like, invite Carley over and check out 'French Kiss' with him and Meg Ryan. ...you'll both love it. It'll rank ALMOST up there with a Kevin Costner movie. :)
Holy fuck! Sorry, I meant h*** fuck! Obviously, about Mr. Wallace.
This has been one of my favorites for close to three decades. My wife and I watch it a couple of times a year. Had a lot of fun watching you react to it.
This was such a great film! One of my favorites from the feel good era of the 90s
We might have a "Dave" Kovic in >Tim Walz< he sure seem's like the same kind of Real and Nice guy
That what I thought too.
5:27 We better see this moment again at the 2024 Popcorn Awards - Year In Review
She even sort of did a Joe Pesci “ok ok ok” by herself there, without trying :D
Though it is out of my normal genre of movies, I watched this back in the 90s, and though it almost never came up since, I've never forgotten it. When I saw you were reacting to it. Must See!
One of my favorites. Dave for President.
"They don't actually do this in real life do they?"
watch:
"The Eagle Has Landed" (1976) Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, Robert Duvall
i miss the days when an IDENTICAL STRANGER was the oddest thing we could've had in the White House.
"They don't actually do this in real life, do they?"
They do this all the time. Politicians, celebs, they do this and a lot more that can't be said here.
Let's Go Brandon has quite a few.
I think you would love this other movie and love theme, a hidden gem, please dont miss it -
Continental Divide (1981)
Helen Reddy - Never Say Goodbye (Love theme from Continental Divide)
I dont know if you will look back & see this message but i just have a feeling from movies i see you have watched that you will love this movie
Dave reminds me of it as it was a great feel good movie which brought 2 people together who would otherwise likely never have come together and i just really think you would like it
Thank you for reminding me of Continental Divide. It was Belushi's only rom-com, and Blair Brown was great too. I agree Cassie would love this one. ☺️
"and we're walking, we're walking...."
I catch myself saying that sooo often
It's funny that she found what Oliver Stone said about a conspiracy funny given that she almost certainly does not know that 1) who Oliver Stone is and 2) that Stone is a conspiracy theorist particularly regarding the Kennedy assassination.
Interesting that a whole bunch of movies came out in the 1990s that were either presidentially themed or had the U.S. President as one of its main characters:
Dave, The American President, Air Force One, Independence Day, Nixon, JFK, My Fellow Americans, Primary Colors, Wag the Dog, Absolute Power. Even Mars Attacks.
You would LOVE the movie French Kiss with Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan. It’s a similar feel-good romance comedy
This movie is absolutely adorable. Dave is one of my favorite movie presidents.
This is in my top 20 favorite movies. Another great presidential movie is "An American President" with Michael Douglas.
You may want to check out Only You (1994) and Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
a huge fan from australia, your are my favourite of the reaction genre, you have watched all my favourite movies, I have enjoyed watching them again with you, I love your reactions, emotional ups and downs. Thank you very much
This is the kind of movie, I just know, Cassie would love
I love this film and the whole cast. "Bob Alexander" Frank Langella was a real hunk early in his career. His performance in the lead role in "Dracula" on Broadway had the ladies swooning. Another great Kevin Kline movie you'll like is "In & Out" (1997). Other fun POTUS films I know you'll like are "The American President" (1995) and "My Fellow Americans" (1996).
If you love Dave as President you will love him as a teacher in a small town. Watch, "In and Out." One of the funniest movies I've seen.
Oh, excellent choice. Truly delightful film. Thank you for reminding me of this.
Kevin Kline is amazing, this movie and In & Out are two of my favorite comedies. In & Out is a bit dated, but you might really like it.
13 days is AMAZING! Can’t wait for the reaction. And it’s pretty accurate with everything that was going on in the world at that moment.
I have loved this movie ever since it came out. To this day, whenever there is talk in the news about balancing the budget, my best friend and I turn to each other and say "they just need to call Murray and get some hoagies up in here". Problem solved.
It's so nice to see a notification for a new PiB video, see what movie it is and immediately know "Cassie is going to love this one!"
This was my favorite movie growing up.
I was a weird kid, but it's still a fantastic movie.
I would've never recognized the face of the Secret Service agent, but I immediately recognized the voice.
"Distinguished Gentleman" - 90s "Washington" comedy with Eddie Murphy. He had a lot of fun on that movie.
