Girl I am 46 years old and back in the day I did this. Nobody actually showed me I just figured out by trial amd error. And I can say this is exactly how you do it. Absolutely great video to teach people the proper method. There are no short cuts to it. ❤️❤️❤️
Me too. In the morning, I just litely finger comb my hair and then wet it and apply a leave in conditioner or oil and let it dry naturally. Or in the summer, I might sleep with wet hair so it re-curls/clusters & there’s less to do in the morning.
I'm a 21 year old guy and I have fought with my incredibly curly hair all my life. Grew it out for 18 months. And started using techniques just like this and it really has been a game changer for me I used to cut it super short because I hated how much of a hassle it was. Pretty good tips in this video. thank you.
Haha! I tried the upside down thing just now and my sinuses are screaming! I’m lightheaded and have so much sinus pressure now. Let’s hope these darn curls turn out right. 😄
I’ve been really embarrassed of my curls for such a long time and I never wear my hair naturally anymore. But after watching a few of these videos and realizing, I want to embrace my curls again. THANK YOU!!!
You’re beautiful! I love your personality. Whole package right here! I’m starting to embrace my waves because my 4 year old has curls and she asked me why I always “fix” my hair and why I don’t fix hers. I love her curls so that broke my heart. I told her mom was going to start leaving my hair the way God made it and she was so happy. Thanks for the tips!
I think I did this routine by accident once back in 2013🤔 and my hair was amazing for that day!! But you have succeeded in repeating your perfect hair day process. Pray for me to find my hairs perfect curl clumping routing so I can look as amazing as you every day 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have low density hair, and I really appreciated that you mentioned in your IG post that the goal may not be 4 huge clumps. If I have larger clumps, I have less volume. I have had to learn to accept that my hair has to be broken up a bit more to look the best it can.
I'm so happy I found this video! First time trying your method, and I am LOVING my curls! I did a few things differently: I washed my hair and vinegar rinsed it the night before, wet and used Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner the next morning, then used home-made flax gel afterwards, all on wet, wet hair! I didn't use the "praying hands" method like I usually do, but the scrunch method; I think this made a big difference too, as I now know (through you) that the praying hands method loosened my clumps rather than setting them. I plopped for about 20 minutes, then left it alone for about a half hour. I then blow dried in sections, leaving the dryer on each section at least a minute. When about 90% dry, I stopped. After it was dry (using your finger testing method) I used Icon India Oil to scrunch out the crunch. OMG. My curls look wonderful! Thanks for the tips!! Your hair is great, by the way! :)
I’m about two years into letting my curls be free, but only got my first dry curly cut in September. My previous stylist had been doing my hair for over 20 years and we watched it go from coarse and wavy to smooth and “holy cow, what happened?!”. We actually watched as the transformation moved up from the nape of my neck where she pointed out to a colleague that “it looked like I used the pink rods on her” (those are the smallest ones, I guess) to finally fully encompassing my whole head in about 4 1/2 years. What I didn’t know was the biggest mistake she was making as she was trying to control the frizz was using the thinning shears on my very thick hair. When I decided to try getting a dry cut, the stylist was sure to remind me that one cut wasn’t going to magically make the frizz go away because of the layerings M had done. I, in turn, pointed out that this first cut was like the first day of puppy obedience training. Some work was done, I was given “homework” to do as I navigate taking care of my curls, and the next cut will be lesson two of curl obedience training. Lesson 2 is in about 3 weeks, having given the remaining thinning layers a good three to grow out further. Wish me luck! My curls are 2C/3A with a few 3Bs.
i have been upside down styling FOREVER and i've never seen anyone else do it the way I do it! i see that some people think they can't do the whole routine upside down, but you don't have to! wash/cleanse rightside up, condition, detangle, use a comb to part your hair (if you do), then flip to rinse and apply product. at this point i do some finger coiling to the back of my hair where i don't have as great of a curl pattern. then i scrunch scrunch scrunch and wet plot in an old cotton T. leave it for 10 minutes, then out, scrunch, position curls, and air dry. my curly specialist stylist had never heard of upside down, but it works!!!
My hair would be so heavy and stiff if I used all that product. I'm actually jealous your hair can handle all of that. I'm low porosity high frizz and I am still trying to find my perfect balance.
Hey! Just thought I'd mention that Shea moisture has a sulfate silicone and paraben free line specifically for low porosity hair, including shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner. I'm not sure if it includes stylers, but I'd check it out if I were you!
it seems like a lot...but that is the purpose. you should just give it a try once. After its dry and casted, you scrunch out the crunch. Frizzless and beautiful! I use this method on my curly clients all the time. they are always shocked at how much product the hair actually needs.
Low porosity hair just can't take a lot of products. I have low porosity hair. It's not very common and it's not like other hair (ie the hair of the majority of people) I think. I can only put on one product. If I put on more my hair gets very heavy and weighed down and feels and looks greasy and sticky, it doesn't matter which products I use. Low porosity hair just won't open up no matter what you do to it, so there's no way it's ever gonna suck up any product and the products just sit on top of the hair shaft and weigh it down.
God bless you, Courtney, for putting out videos on how to care for 2 type, barely wavy hair. You are a Godsend. I was getting so frustrated with my hair and was about to get it cut shorter (my is is almost shoulder length, so I was just about to get it cut even shorter), when I saw your videos and few months ago and started the curly girl journey. I can tell that it is getting better with every wash day. I don't have a brush like what you use, but I do have and use a Denman type brush to distribute the conditioners throughly and to brush the front of my hair, to get it to clump and get my hair to part and off my face.
I'm a 2C/3A girl. I just started this in order to fix my color damaged/flatiron dry, dull hair and to bring out the natural waves/curls that I've been trying to straighten for twenty years. I solved my prob in one day which shocked me. I used Marc Anthony Hydrating Curl Creme on wet hair and it shines now, is soft and curly to where I'm 3A everywhere almost now. Even after six days I still had some ringlets which shocked me and very little frizz even six days later. I highly recommend it if anyone hasn't tried it.
Thanks for all the techniques and tips, you have helped me along. 3 months in and I no longer am panicky every morning wondering if I will be able to have good enough hair to go to work. (I always did) This is a journey of acceptance as well, but I love rocking cherub curls and waves after years of blow drying. And a little frizz is NOT the end of the world, I've said I'm having a bad hair day and she's said no, I can't even see what you're talking about. Always seems like I get complements right when I need them. So thank you!
This video has been a game changer for me! Thank you SO much for putting the time and effort into making it and going into such detail about your routine. It was exactly what I needed. I stumbled across the video while searching for tips on getting and keeping curl clumps. With my high porosity, med density, fine 2b waves, I can get my hair to clump beautifully, but it's keeping the clumps intact while I flip my head right side up (I also wash my hair bending over the bathtub, rather than in the shower. Maybe that's why I found your video so helpful!) that I really struggle with. If i do manage to save a few of those precious clumps, they start falling apart as my hair dries. It always ends up looking stringy with small ramen noodle- looking Curls. That's the way it used to go. Now, however, I follow your video step- by- step, with a few tweaks to make it better suited to my hair, and I am blown away by the results!! My big, beautiful, fat clumps are still intact, and my hair appears very uniformal....uniformed..??. The Curls and waves are basically all the same shape and size. That's huge for me because my hair usually looks like it belongs to 6 different people. There is little to no Frizz! My curls are well defined, there's some volume at the root (but there can always be more volume, amirite?🙂), and maybe it's just me, but i think my hair is even a bit shinier than before!! Someone in the comments below said she had been focusing on buying and trying different products, hoping one would be The One, and hadn't been giving as much attention to application technique. That's EXACTLY what I've been doing! I've been spending crazy amounts of money on hair products and then rushing through my wash day. I was using the techniques that I had read about without understanding why they worked. I also haven't been paying attention to my hair...I wasn't listening to what it was telling me. But once I slowed down my routine some, took my time, and really took notice of how my hair reacts to different products/ techniques, it has made all the difference in my hair... and in my attitude about it. (I've been following the CGM for about 3.5 months, and have been on the verge of throwing in the towel for, at least, the last month). Seeing the results of following your routine has given me enough hope and encouragement to keep at it... at least a while longer. So thank you again! Keep doing what you're doing!
Wow, I was like her hair is similar to mine when wet. It was amazing you were able to turn it into those curls. These tips were very helpful. I hope they work and your hair is gorgeous.
Such good tips and I'll definitely try this. I feel like its hard when you have wavy/curly hair because its so easy to break the curls/waves apart and just obliterate them. I just feel like its so time consuming and with my dyson, i can have my rib length hair blow dried straight in 15 minute, lol.
Don't be. Curly hair sucks to take care of and most go throughout life wirhout figuring a proper routine out and making it look presentable. At least with stick straight hair you can brush it and be on your way.
I thought I had straight hair. Then I had been keeping it in braid out waves. After about 3 months of doing it on repeat, I have random bits of hair forming ringlets and most of it being wavy even after being washed. It’s kinda wild.
This seems to be a big problem for a lot of people but I have the opposite. My curls clump no matter what I do (as long as they're wet). If I'd let them my hair would be in 3 or 4 massive clumps. It means I struggle to distribute styling product on them so everything gets super frizzy when dry.
Just finding your videos after a lifetime of straight hair which has now become about a 2b wave. My hair has completely surprised me and I’m trying to figure this wavy thing out! Thanks for the upside down tips-totally works and I’ve been looking for a good leave-in, so I’m going to try your rec, too. Turns out I’ve been both dry ‘plopping’ and pixie diffusing as it seemed intuitive. Gonna say that after a lifetime of straight that got weird and yucky with just about any product, I’m slowly integrating just a leave-in and an oil. Going to continue with the rest of your curl tutorials! ❤️
You showed lifting the hair away from the back of your head in another video, too. Until I saw that it was something I never really considered important for my shoulder length hair, but it was a total game changer for me. It really helped the clumps form and stay together. Funny how a seemingly minor detail can be so critical to good results! Thanks xo
Your hair is beautiful curled, really lovely on you. I wash my hair every day, using my homemade shampoo bar, nope no damage. If I had to do that process everyday I would never get out the door, but it is lovely. Thanks for your video. Darlene
While I don’t have your exact products or the brush you used, I followed the rest of your recommendations and my curls FINALLY clumped! Thank you for sharing your routine!
Blueberry bliss is my fave leave in. I also like sleeping in the cast so I can scrunch the crunch in the morning. It really locks in my curls and waves for the next 4 days.
Amanda D I pile my hair on the top of my hair in a bonnet ( I can’t pineapple it causes headaches) but I can say most of my hate has a good amount of cast left in it by the morning to scrunch out. I do have to fix some parts if they just don’t look right. I’ll just spray with a little water and restyle. It’s usually the front piece. My curls/waves like to go counterclockwise almost everywhere and almost all wants to be In my face! Lol 😂 its a love hate relationship... but when they are on point I do love my hair.
Jennifer Foster can you please please please share what gel and also what bonnet? Trying to do this in the morning and get out of the house on time is IMPOSSIBLE for me. I’m a night shower person anyway. Thanks for your insight!!
Excellent informative teaching video! I started the curly journey a year ago and still have lots of frizz. I will definitely use your instructions tomorrow when I wash my hair. Thanks for sharing!
After fighting my frizzy curls for years, I am finally embracing natural curly/wavy hair. One big question for me is how do you detangle your hair between washes!
Wow okay so i followed this with some different products here were mine: Curl as I am shampoo Blueberry bliss leave in conditioner Curl and flora curl activating lotion Curl and flora volumizing foam As I am curling jelly So I missed a step where you squished it in really well and made like two thick strands of hair, but I have to say my hair is even wavy at the roots so I’m super pleased with this method as it is. I think I’ve finally found my happy place with my hair, I used to really really want tighter curlier hair and I still have some of that, but I think I’m really owning big waves/curls and I love how they come out :) clumping is a big yes! Thank you!
Courtney, this is really fascinating! I recently discovered I have 2a wavy hair. My straight hair changed with menopause, and I've been a little confused about how to work with it. Looking forward to trying your suggested techniques and products. Your hair is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! This is a big portion of priceless information. No hairdresser could ever tell me all these tricks, that basically are to be or not to be of my curly hair. And all that served in the kindest way I could imagine. All the best for you, Courtney!
Hello from Russia and thank you so much. ❤ I was shocked 4 days ago when finding out my hair isn't considered straight, haha. Two proper "curly method" hair washes - and it's already type 2B-2C, that I'm having with my hair. So fun!.. And I'm so much amazed by the results 😍 Your tips are helpful - I will try them.
I take back what I said about porosity in the other video. If I used that much KCCC and gel, I would have such a rock hard cast I'd be finding crunchy pieces 3 days later! LOL I have low porosity.
Christine Kofman I get a cast from KCCC but I have high porosity because my hair gets soaked very quickly and dries fast. I honestly don’t need any extra gel. It’s crazy. I’ve not heard anyone else say they get a cast from KCCC alone
Courtney - you are amazing! I have been struggling for 6 months to "really" get my 2B - 2C waves under control. I will admit, I never even knew I HAD waves until 6 months ago, when I really looked at my wet hair right before I blew it straight. But anyways, I have studied your videos, and I watched your curl clumps 2.0 several times - and I got it! It wasn't so much needing to change the products I had been using, but changing my technique! Wow! I am so impressed, and SO thankful! And, your info on protein was life changing, as well. Keep it up!
I recently started the method & absolutely love it, my hair feels way better But i still haven't figured how to style to improve curls on my 2b*2c hair, thanks so much for creating this video
I'm sooo looking forward to your video on scalp issues. The past few weeks I've been noticing a lot more itching/tenderness on my scalp. At first I thought it might be certain products I'm using but realized that it was happening even when I switched up my products.
No I haven’t used any deva curl products. I thought maybe it was the tea tree triple treat shampoo but I started the curls hair wash repairative shampoo and had the same results
I found I had terrible scalp issues with the CGM, I changed products etc but it seemed to be the fact that my scalp hated being wet for so long during the "squish to condish" and plopping sessions. I stopped with the extra moisture (dripping wet hair with added excess conditioners) and no more sopping wet hair piled on my head for ages and my scalp no longer itches or feels "boggy".
@@melaniespears8195 yep, that's exactly what I do now. I squeeze the excess water out then apply Cantu curl cream and diffuse or air dry. It's made the world if difference to my hair using less moisture and products. My curls got droopy and like chewing gum and my scalp was soft, squidgy and itched horribly. Now I have bouncy happy curls and a healthy scalp again 😊
@@cynara8230 - Environmental factors do play a roll, that's for sure! Courtney nearly lives in the desert, so when her hair dries out it's truly dry. I used to live further west than her and we only used towels as a "modesty shield" as we were dry, hair and all, by the time we got acrosss the hall (three steps!). Now I live further east and if I dont use a towel to dry off I'm liable to start growing mold. 🤦♀️
Late to the party, but wow!!! I have been manipulating my poor hair into staying straight for over 20 years now (I am 45) but after following your tutorial step by step I can honestly just say WOW!!! Although I don't have the shine and bigger waves you have I am sure it will come back with time, but as for today, I can honestly just say WOW!!! I forgot that I had super wavy hair💜👌💜👌💜
You are so fun! And I love that you explain things quickly and clearly and don’t keep repeating everything. Gosh, that was a lot of products you used. I have no problem buying them all but I just bought a bunch of stuff already. And your routine is quite lengthy. All that aside, your hair is gorgeous!
Beautiful results! I wound up with a stretched out ponytail for church yesterday, so it’s definitely time to dunk my head and try something new! I need to start timing my wash days better
I feel like my hair is falling flat and getting really frizzy (which is frustrating), but your curl pattern looks so much like mine on one of my rare good hair days I’m definitely going to try this out! I’ve seen SO many videos where people are oohing and aahing over the Denman brush or finger coiling and I don’t get it. I have tried both of those so many times and the results have been sad. I’ve also had some bad results washing my hair upside down, but the way you lift your hair off the back of the scalp might work for me.
Your hair is my holy grail!!!! It's so healthy & GORGEOUS. I keep trying to get my curls to clump, it's not happening for me yet, but it does kinda feel ropy when I squish to condish. I just really like a soft hold & I'm terrified of hair gel but I am working on the courage to try it
Thanks for sharing these techniques! The last few months I've really been trying to get my curls back and getting clumped curls has been a huge challenge for me. I'm so jealous of my son's 3C curls that automatically ringlet at the slightest hint of moisture.
I know this video is a year ago buf I found by accident washing my curly wavy hair at night while doing my own process(similar to yours but much shorter) and leaving the cast on after diffusing 50% dry to air then air dry totally changed my mind on morning washing as it came out so much better and lasted longer curly and style wise inbetween washes. BTW Love your hair and presentation.🥰
So yes I used to get a "funky" area in the back of my head as well. The thing that really really helps was to rake the hair off the back of my head and add a touch of water to the back of my head, and really really turn my head from side to side as I add products. And not being afraid to really gently shake the hair off of the back of my head either. Really reach around in the back and scrunch! Haha, what do you think?
I’ve watched all your videos pretty much and I always shake off the hair, and use a brush at the back now to make sure the product is distributed but it still is just a whole section that isn’t responding🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I never do. That's the curliest part besides right where bangs would brand by my ears. It's like huge big awkward curls that if I break the up they're ruined...ugh...
@@rachabeff3212 - Have you tried finger coiling? Sometimes I can get that to work and sometimes not, but it's worth trying. Manes by Mell has a video on it. Root clipping works for me too but I have to remember to remove them after only a few minutes or it looks like an alien sat on my head! 👽🤣🤣🤣
I found your channel a few weeks ago and I‘ve watched many videos -they are soo informative! Your videos made me realize that I really should think about my haircare routine. I‘ve done the curly girl method for like 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it! I love my waves, I love how hydrated my hair is and it just makes me so happy. Thanks for letting me know about all that 😊
Omg I just want to thank you so much. My hair is so much like yours, mine is just a little bit tighter but I noticed it looks similar. After a hair masque, squishing in all my products, and using lots of water (cuz water is our friend) my hair looks amazing. My hair is already really healthy I just needed some extra moisture and guidance thank you Courtney!!!
i know this video is old and i doubt you’ll see this but i recently started my hair journey on what i THOUGHT was wavy hair. however this method helped my hair clump up into LOOSE CURLS! thank you for being so informative and thorough, it really helped me :)
I don’t diffuse at all. I put on that same curl leave in conditioner. Then I have several small hair claws and twist up the front and sides into about 4 of them while damp from the shower (after a 20 second application of the curl leave in conditioner), then twist up the back and clap it together with a big bun claw on the top/back of my hair. It’s dry the next morning, and then I separate into smaller clumps. Takes less than 5 minutes. I always get asked where I bought my curly hair extensions! I never turn my head upside down, either. Lus shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, then just the one leave in conditioner (the blueberry stuff), twist up and pin with small hair claws, and you’re good to go in the morning. Easy to sleep in, won’t fall out, gets it all up off your scalp so they can dry in their twist.
Your video is the only clump tutorial that has worked for me and I am so stoked!! Thank you so much I recently have been dabbling in curly techniques and nothing has given me definition like your video has.
I'm still in transition and one thing that still confuses me I guess is gel. I know a lot of people new to CGM are scared of hard, crunchy gel. The last time I tried using gel and mousse in my hair again I felt like it made my hair really dry and feel unhealthy. My usual wash day is devacurl or a clarifying shampoo and conditioner, the blueberry bliss leave-in and Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom (which I highly recommend, protein cream with lighter oils) and that gives me some softer waves and good hydration. I'd like to get more hold out of my waves but I don't want to dry out my hair. On a related note, could you do an updated product favorites with your more moisturizing or balanced products you've been liking since your last video?
I'd recommend trying devacurl's B′LEAVE-IN, it's a good one and done styler (after your leave in) that plumps like a cream and holds like gel. Or try finishing with a light defining gel and make sure your hair is very wet when you apply it so it will lock in some moister and be hydrated and soft when you 'scrunch out the crunch.'
I want to thank SO much because this has saved my life. My hair was always stringy, very dry and no definition etc. I always thought I had 2c/3a thick hair, but I have WAVY and very very thin hair (with some ringlets). That's why the other tutorials never worked, but with this routine my hair looks AMAZING. thank you so so so so so much
Hi! They are in the description of this video. If you hit more right beneath the video the section will open up. The products are near the top. I always try to make sure those are there. If I can I will post discount codes as well. 🥰
Thank you for creating your videos. Based on your descriptions of how your hair behaves, what it looks like visually, and the types of styling products you use, I get the impression that our hair texture and skin oiliness is the same. I appreciate knowing what someone like me could do to get my hair to clump nicely. Level 2 hair comes with its own special challenges when trying to create definition. Thanks again for sharing!
I know this video is a couple years old, but I'm so excited to try this. I have decided you will be my curly hair mom and I will soak in all the information on your channel.
Jennifer leann Hennon do you plop of any sorts when you sleep or do just go to bed with your hair down? Also do you sleep with it wet or do it like she does and wait for it to dry first? Just trying to find different methods
I just started doing this and it works, so now I am doing my hair at night instead of in the am. Sleeping with a wet head is no fun but I have tried everything else.
@@averie5030 I have a silk bonnet I found on etsy.com I use my defuser till its maybe 80 percent dry I have a lot of hair lol I get impatient but I found throwing it in my bonnet before bed even if it's a little damp it works out pretty good :)
Your technique and verbal instructions are easy to understand and watch. Thank you for sharing. My biggest thing is watching these videos and thinking 🤔 these products are better than mine. I have so many that have been set aside. It’s ridiculous and I don’t know what to do about that. 💕
omg... thank you so much for your video. Gives me so much hope! My hair is exactly the same like yours on your day 4 hair.... I never knew this was possible to get those curls with it!! I'm gonna try this :)
What I found is my hair gets more curl and more fun a few days after I wash it! I’ve been using organic clean shampoo for two years now. But I’m going to buy a conditioner as soon as I can! I need to hydrate my hair! Thanks so much.
Do you want freedom from frizz? ➡ bit.ly/freedomfromfrizz
I like how you're speaking softly in the voiceover, as if to not scare the curl clumps away 😂
Ok have fun 👍 😄 ☺ 😊
1. wet hair thoroughly
2. 1:15 shampoo: scrub the scalp and make sure there's consistently enough water
3. 2:10 apple cider vinegar rinse: scrub the scalp and don't detangle, then rinse
4. 3:20 hair mask! detangle with it, scrunch to apply. squish to condish. make suuuuure to have a lot of water in your hair.
5. let it sit for 30 minutes
6. 5:22 leave in time: now we're starting to style the hair; creating clumps.
7. 6:22 curling custard: Squish and pulse with lots of water
8. 7:33 jelly time! roping to distribute, squish and pulse to form clumps.
9. 9:04 plop for 30 minutes
10. 12:23 diffuse until 90% dry and let it air dry to 100%
11. 13:58 scrunch out the crunch with oil!
Thank you!
You, are, awesome! Thank you!
You are the true hero here. 🙌
Thank you!
Thanks 🤗
Girl I am 46 years old and back in the day I did this. Nobody actually showed me I just figured out by trial amd error. And I can say this is exactly how you do it. Absolutely great video to teach people the proper method. There are no short cuts to it. ❤️❤️❤️
I gave up because I'm dumb lol. Only now 15 years later I'm learning how not to have crunchy curls
My problem is this would only last one day. My curls get messed up every time i sleep
Same! I sleep with a cap on a satin pillow case and I wake up with a rat's nest no matter what I do.
@@girlie0226 have you tried a satin bonnet?
Laura Whetsel that’s just how hair is... trust me I tried everything in the book. I just got used to it
Me too. In the morning, I just litely finger comb my hair and then wet it and apply a leave in conditioner or oil and let it dry naturally. Or in the summer, I might sleep with wet hair so it re-curls/clusters & there’s less to do in the morning.
I sleep with my hair in a high, loose ponytail (pineapple method) and then spritz with water and some sea salt the next day to help reactivate product
Outta all the curly girls I watch you have the best routine and the healthiest most gorgeous hair ever
It really is gorgeous though lol

Brenda Nittinger haha totally understand. It oddly has actually helped me in some ways. 🤷🏼♀️
Haha! I tried the upside down thing just now and my sinuses are screaming! I’m lightheaded and have so much sinus pressure now. Let’s hope these darn curls turn out right. 😄
Bahaha these comments made me chuckle ☺️
Just watching makes my back hurt!

same i'm lazy too i have adhd & probably more wavy hair
I know right. I wonder why I haven't learned how to take care of my curls and then I watch videos like this and remember!
oh and a mom which tells you to brush your curls😭
I’m lazy af, that girl is unique
My curls are 2C/3A with a few 3Bs.
i love how real and genuine your videos are, it makes trying your advice so much less intimidating
i have been upside down styling FOREVER and i've never seen anyone else do it the way I do it! i see that some people think they can't do the whole routine upside down, but you don't have to! wash/cleanse rightside up, condition, detangle, use a comb to part your hair (if you do), then flip to rinse and apply product. at this point i do some finger coiling to the back of my hair where i don't have as great of a curl pattern. then i scrunch scrunch scrunch and wet plot in an old cotton T. leave it for 10 minutes, then out, scrunch, position curls, and air dry. my curly specialist stylist had never heard of upside down, but it works!!!
I did this technique in the 90’s. Had no idea there was a name for it and now a video.
I’ve been flat ironing for years. Im just starting to learn how to take care of my natural texture. I can’t wait to try this method. Thanks
You got this!
just WATCHING this made my neck hurt 😭
I noticed they discontinued that product
Low porosity hair just can't take a lot of products. I have low porosity hair. It's not very common and it's not like other hair (ie the hair of the majority of people) I think. I can only put on one product. If I put on more my hair gets very heavy and weighed down and feels and looks greasy and sticky, it doesn't matter which products I use. Low porosity hair just won't open up no matter what you do to it, so there's no way it's ever gonna suck up any product and the products just sit on top of the hair shaft and weigh it down.
Girl saaaame lemme know what you find 😁
Thank you so much!! I love this!
Wow, I was like her hair is similar to mine when wet. It was amazing you were able to turn it into those curls. These tips were very helpful. I hope they work and your hair is gorgeous.
The way your hair moves is absolutely out of this world. 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much 😀
Such good tips and I'll definitely try this. I feel like its hard when you have wavy/curly hair because its so easy to break the curls/waves apart and just obliterate them. I just feel like its so time consuming and with my dyson, i can have my rib length hair blow dried straight in 15 minute, lol.
I have naturally stick straight hair and I’m incredibly jealous of those with curly hair! Your hair is beautiful!
slick straight hair is beautiful too ❤️
Thanks xo
Im try the curl clump and its help my to get more definition.
I can’t get over how shiny and healthy your hair is 😍
Blueberry bliss is my fave leave in. I also like sleeping in the cast so I can scrunch the crunch in the morning. It really locks in my curls and waves for the next 4 days.
How do you sleep on it in such a way that it doesn't ruin your hair? I can't manage it 😭
Amanda D I pile my hair on the top of my hair in a bonnet ( I can’t pineapple it causes headaches) but I can say most of my hate has a good amount of cast left in it by the morning to scrunch out.
Thanks!
I don’t know why it said hate... I intended to type most of my hair has a good amount of cast. I sure you understood what I intended to say. 😂🤞😉👍
Jennifer Foster can you please please please share what gel and also what bonnet? Trying to do this in the morning and get out of the house on time is IMPOSSIBLE for me. I’m a night shower person anyway. Thanks for your insight!!
Wow I've never seen your hair more shiny and smooth!! Looks amazing!
Excellent informative teaching video! I started the curly journey a year ago and still have lots of frizz. I will definitely use your instructions tomorrow when I wash my hair. Thanks for sharing!
Really beautiful! I layered my hair when I was 18. I didn’t know I had curly hair. I called it “bumpy hair”
After fighting my frizzy curls for years, I am finally embracing natural curly/wavy hair. One big question for me is how do you detangle your hair between washes!
My goodness you get no hair fallout! I could name my hair fallout every time I wash my hair especially after 4 days. JEALOUS
Wow okay so i followed this with some different products here were mine:
Curl as I am shampoo
Blueberry bliss leave in conditioner
Curl and flora curl activating lotion
Curl and flora volumizing foam
As I am curling jelly
So I missed a step where you squished it in really well and made like two thick strands of hair, but I have to say my hair is even wavy at the roots so I’m super pleased with this method as it is. I think I’ve finally found my happy place with my hair, I used to really really want tighter curlier hair and I still have some of that, but I think I’m really owning big waves/curls and I love how they come out :) clumping is a big yes! Thank you!
The only part of curly styling that I find physically impossible is not touching my hair while it's drying.. just not possible
What I do is if I see that my hair is frizzin up real bad, I add a real small bit of Argon Oil to my hair and it acts right!
Me too!! I have to mess with the roots, and that just breaks up all the curls!
I feel your pain, lol. I scrunch while my hair is pretty wet and even periodically as it's air drying. I can't help myself.
sis put on a really good movie it helps distract u!!!
I think why this curly hair thing isn’t working well for me. I can’t stop messing with it! Prior to this my hair was always up in a ponytail
I liked your BEFORE. I think your natural texture looks GREAT
Courtney, this is really fascinating! I recently discovered I have 2a wavy hair. My straight hair changed with menopause, and I've been a little confused about how to work with it. Looking forward to trying your suggested techniques and products. Your hair is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Scrunching put the crunch with oil is such a good idea! This is when I always get frizz. But I need them softer I have to scrunch out the crunch!!
Thank you so much! This is a big portion of priceless information. No hairdresser could ever tell me all these tricks, that basically are to be or not to be of my curly hair. And all that served in the kindest way I could imagine. All the best for you, Courtney!
Hello from Russia and thank you so much. ❤
I was shocked 4 days ago when finding out my hair isn't considered straight, haha. Two proper "curly method" hair washes - and it's already type 2B-2C, that I'm having with my hair. So fun!.. And I'm so much amazed by the results 😍 Your tips are helpful - I will try them.
Hello
I take back what I said about porosity in the other video. If I used that much KCCC and gel, I would have such a rock hard cast I'd be finding crunchy pieces 3 days later! LOL I have low porosity.
Christine Kofman I get a cast from KCCC but I have high porosity because my hair gets soaked very quickly and dries fast. I honestly don’t need any extra gel. It’s crazy. I’ve not heard anyone else say they get a cast from KCCC alone
jmm I get a cast from KCCC as well.
Your hair looks so shiny and healthy!
Keep it up!
I recently started the method & absolutely love it, my hair feels way better
But i still haven't figured how to style to improve curls on my 2b*2c hair, thanks so much for creating this video
@@cynara8230 That makes so much sense! Maybe instead of plopping I'll just squish out as much moisture as I can and diffuse! I hadn't thought of that!
The amount of product and steps you take... you are a superhero
All that aside, your hair is gorgeous!
just have to say, I use devacurl mostly, but when I added the blueberry bliss leave in, clumping got WAY better! thank you!
Your method is the best! My hair is perfect every time! Thanks ❤️
Awe yay!!! Thank you! I am so glad it help you!
Beautiful results! I wound up with a stretched out ponytail for church yesterday, so it’s definitely time to dunk my head and try something new! I need to start timing my wash days better
Oh I feel you there! Timing wash days are the hardest!!
The best video about curly hair 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉, thank you!!
Yay! Thank you so much!
So much positive energy I love it. It makes me happy.
Awe, thank you!
Thank you for introducing me to the Curls blueberry bliss leave in, it smells SO good and has a great protein/moisture ratio❤️
BTW Love your hair and presentation.🥰
you hair looks incredible in this video Courtney! Thank you!
Does anyone else have a “funky” area in the back of their head? Any tips for that?
The whole back of my head is funky. I just wanna throw the whole hair away
Finally someone whos actually sharing good information. Ive been struggling..
My hair is already really healthy I just needed some extra moisture and guidance thank you Courtney!!!
what is the wet plopping technique? does Courtney have a video on it?
Can’t take my eyes from these impossibly shiny hair, so enviooooous
🙈🥰🤗
i know this video is old and i doubt you’ll see this but i recently started my hair journey on what i THOUGHT was wavy hair. however this method helped my hair clump up into LOOSE CURLS! thank you for being so informative and thorough, it really helped me :)
Which products did you use that acc helped
Rae products matter less than your technique
@@Raetsmar hty
Wow amazing routine, but i would not have enough time for all this! Hair looks so so good though!! 10/10 for effort and results!! Xx
Giiiiiirl your hair is so shinyyyyy! I love it !
Wet ploping really helps my hair!
Your hair is STUNNING!
Awe, thank you!
How do you sleep to protect your hair for second and third day hair? How do you refresh?
My back is hurting watching it. You have so much strength to do this.
Can you do a wavy next day (or 3) curl refresher tutorial?
She's so pretty omg
Your video is the only clump tutorial that has worked for me and I am so stoked!! Thank you so much I recently have been dabbling in curly techniques and nothing has given me definition like your video has.
Glad I could help!
Or try finishing with a light defining gel and make sure your hair is very wet when you apply it so it will lock in some moister and be hydrated and soft when you 'scrunch out the crunch.'
look for flaxseed gel diy on yt, it's really moisturising and has a good hold
I want to thank SO much because this has saved my life. My hair was always stringy, very dry and no definition etc. I always thought I had 2c/3a thick hair, but I have WAVY and very very thin hair (with some ringlets). That's why the other tutorials never worked, but with this routine my hair looks AMAZING. thank you so so so so so much
Also the trick with raking the back and brushing the front while styling is AMAZING for volume holy COW. so excited and thankful :D
We each have our own habits of doing things our way, when doing certain things. If it works for you, keep it going!
Can you please list the products you used in this video? Thank you.
Hi! They are in the description of this video. If you hit more right beneath the video the section will open up. The products are near the top. I always try to make sure those are there. If I can I will post discount codes as well. 🥰
How do you have 0 frizz?!? I’m just mesmerized
Omg, I'm exhausted just watching. My arms would be worn out and my back constantly hanging over a tub to put on 6 products....yikes
Tricia E I’m assuming she might have done it that way rather than have to do shower photography
I know this video is a couple years old, but I'm so excited to try this. I have decided you will be my curly hair mom and I will soak in all the information on your channel.
I do this! Its amazing! :D
I sleep in my "crunch" and the next day it looks amazing!
Jennifer leann Hennon do you plop of any sorts when you sleep or do just go to bed with your hair down? Also do you sleep with it wet or do it like she does and wait for it to dry first? Just trying to find different methods
@@averie5030 I'm also learning that part
I just started doing this and it works, so now I am doing my hair at night instead of in the am. Sleeping with a wet head is no fun but I have tried everything else.
@@averie5030 I have a silk bonnet I found on etsy.com I use my defuser till its maybe 80 percent dry I have a lot of hair lol I get impatient but I found throwing it in my bonnet before bed even if it's a little damp it works out pretty good :)
@Jennifer leann Hennon thank you! Those are great tips
Thank you for this video!!! I did this yesterday and finally clumps are back!! ♥️
Yeayyyyyy!!!!!!
Wow! A lot of products but I can’t deny the beauty at the end. Lovely hair!!!
What I found is my hair gets more curl and more fun a few days after I wash it! I’ve been using organic clean shampoo for two years now. But I’m going to buy a conditioner as soon as I can! I need to hydrate my hair! Thanks so much.
Ohhh conditioning will be a game changer!!!
I would love to see you try the bowl method. It made such a huge difference for me and my waves.
