I wasn't happy with the hair stylist blowing out my wavy hair straight, even when I asked her to diffuse it, and then using the curling iron and watching the style fall out when I left the shop. So I started doing it myself. I used gel & set my hair using toilet paper tubes that I cut up. Yes, LOL I need something sturdier than that, but after removal I worked my hands thru my hair & it looked so pretty! I have volume I didn't have before and after sleeping on it, the curls relax into what you call "stringy". I don't mind that now because the warm & humid weather has arrived & my thin hair looks full. Now I'm a new subscriber!
The hair you think looks bad actually looks gorgeous and natural. Very French. The defined version you like better looks pretty too but looks more "done". So in my humble opinion, whatever it is you think you're doing wrong, keep doing it! ❤❤❤
@@Skeeter-vn5jt I didn't know about it until I googled it wondering what was going on with my hair! I typed in why is my hair curly when it was straight before and menopause popped up. And of course, that is when the curls started appearing!
I’m black, so I have coils hair., I don’t need to scrunch mine; it will roll up on its own if I let it. I am watching this to learn about different hair types. And a difference I see is that if I can get my hair to a point of being stringy when wet gives me beautiful curls. Most of my problems were solved using Curls Curl Paste on slightly damp hair. There is no noticeable gel caste. My hair just looks great. But, I think your hair looks lovely.
I’m only about 2 weeks into my wavy/curly hair journey (yup--I always thought I just had “bad straight hair”) and while I have scoured UA-cam for information, your channel is my favorite! I’m already seeing major improvements in my hair!
Ditto!!! My whole life I just thought I just had that stupid S curve on the back of my head😂. Hang in there, you may just be amazed how much curl you actually have. ❤
Keep going!! It took my hair about 5 months before I started seeing really good results (and cutting 6 inches off my hair). It's a journey but you can do it!!
Ugh. The people who push techniques as a blanket imperative. Thank you for acknowledging that we can't all brush style! I'm tired of feeling like I'm being called lazy b/c I won't do it!
Not sure if you'll see this comment because it's an older video, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing your wavy hair knowledge and experience! I definitely always thought I just have bad straight hair, but you pointed out what I didn't realize which is I just have wavy hair that I haven't cared for!
Love your channel... it's taken me 55 years to figure out how to look after my curls. I have learnt so much just in a week! I went to a curly hair specialist hairdresser and binging on UA-cam videos. You can teach an old dog new tricks 😅🤪
Well I am just doing everything wrong! Ok, update, I have started to use some of the natural products on my hair and follow these steps. Last night I deep conditioned. Today I just wet it again, conditioned & leave in conditioner & today I met my old friend & she just raved & raved about my curly hair!!!! With out being prompted!!!! I am still learning (& 50) but loving it!! Surprised at how clean my hair feels. Surprised at how it doesn't feel heavy after putting leave in conditioner in. Surprised at how little I need. Loving it. Thank you. Ordered your downloadable guide to go through. Great material!! & Love your videos!! Gonna understand my hair better before I spend the big bucks at Sephora.
I have a lot of fine wavy curly hair. First thing to do is to get a hairdresser who knows how to cut hair to bring out the curl. It makes maintenance and styling much easier.
YES! Not enough water and too much manipulation, whether scrunching or brush styling, will absolutely give me stringy curls. I can get brush styling to work if I constantly keep it dripping wet, but I don't feel the results are worth the extra time.
I love the verse that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”! It’s so healing and encouraging. Embracing my curls! Just found your channel and subscribed 😘
I am 66 & felt like I had to tame the beast every day. Then I learned to love them. It's waist long & I am seriously thinking I am finally going to go short. Scary.
I'm still in transition (6 months into my journey now) and have pH damage but I can see the wave pattern getting wavier closer to the roots now so just waiting out more growth so I can cut off the bottom damage. Seeing your in-transition photos again helps me be more patient.
Your hair at the beginning is what my hair has looked like for most of my life, and actually looks pretty great! I don’t mind how it looks. Now I know how to do better techniques, but my 3rd day hair tends to still look similar to this.
This is the first video I’ve watched trying to learn about my hair, which I discovered was actually wavy/curly after cutting it short for the first time. Now I am in transition trying to grow it out, learn products, techniques, and everything else. I learned sooooo much, thank you!
Me too! I feel like a teenager again learning and experimenting with products and styling. Videos like this are not just helpful, but also encouraging. Thanks Courtney!
It took me over 3 years to grow out the damage I had from dying/lightening my blonde hair. I just cut it last of it off last week. My hair is so healthy now. I’ve learned so much from your videos on taking it to the next level. I am learning so much about making my wavy hair curlier and looking so much better.
Thank you for these videos. I have recently begun my 2a wavy hair journey, and I have been really discouraged by how stringy it sometimes looks! I am still experimenting with products and methods, but it can be so frustrating - so your videos are so reassuring!
Last time I got my hair trimmed, she said I had basically no split ends or damage and my hair was super healthy, but she still cut off way more than we talked about. 😖
I seriously think some of those women are actually jealous. I've had my hair ruined by so-called professionals one too many times. Now i'm a do it yourselfer !
Does anyone else struggle with their bottom layer going straight? Drives me crazy when it sticks out under the waves and curls. I've yet to find a solution that lasts a whole day!
I got about 2 inches cut off my bottom layer recently just because of this same issue and I find it is so much less noticeable now if it wants to be straight and the top wavy
Curly Wavy Patty has a video about that she has different hair types and I think there are a few videos floating about regarding getting your curl types to match (Gena Marie)
I think your hair looks great. I am 64, hit menopause at 40, and my wonderful curly hair has never been the same. Extremely thin now, and if I try to let it dry naturally, as I did in the past it is frizzy, and the curls are stringy like a poodle. Perhaps this is a topic other natural curly gals have issues with. Thx!
Always had fine, lower density hair, that gets really easily weighed down and stretched, and it is lower density still going into menopause. Without knowing what you are doing now, no one could say for certain, but I can tell you that I have to go really lightweight, have my hair soaking wet (to use less product and encourage the clump), use mousse only at the roots, I actually use body lotion just at the ends for definition and hold, and then use a camping towel to scrunch and get the excess off. I then deal with those roots that like to stick to my scalp (ugh) or lie in funny directions. Good luck to you!
I actually like your hair at the start of the video too!! Probably because that's what my good hair days look like. I prefer a bit more of a looser wave and less definition on myself; I usually run a wide tooth comb through once or twice and I get so much volume! I've found the trick to combating frizz is to use two small pumps of the Curlsmith Full Body Thickening Lotion and it really keeps that frizz at a minumum :) Also! I finally bought a chelating shampoo as we have *extremely* hard well water. Haven't tried that yet but gonna try next week when I have my next day off!
Well, look at me solving hair issues like it’s my day job… oh wait, it is! 😂 Not really but, I’m thrilled this video actually helped! Now go forth and clump those curls like a pro! 🙌💁♀️
@allikasterg3021 I'm about to buy L'Oréal Ever Pure shampoo. I've seen it recommended for low porosity hair types, and it's a more affordable option than others often recommended. But you can also clarify using apple cider vinegar. For a gentle ratio, mix 1 part ACV to 3 parts water. For stronger solution, do 50/50. You can apply it to scalp and roots before you shampoo as a pre-poo, then shampoo, and then use it as a final rinse (after all products have been thoroughly rinsed clear).. you'll leave it instead of following up with additional water to rinse the ACV rinse out. Don't worry, the smell will fade away once hair is dry. It helps rid build-up and restore pH balance, and when used as a final rinse, it adds some shine and softness to hair. You can also just add a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo that is free of sulfates, silicones, and proteins. This will perform in a clarifying manner. I'm using the baking soda and ACV already, but I haven't been using the correct products for my low porosity hair, and I have lots of protein buildup so I'm going to get the proper type of clarifying shampoo in addition to using bs and acv. Now I'm on a quest to find other affordable low porosity products because the majority are so expensive
My hair is very fine and thin. I did all the things for over a year and most of the time the back looked terrible and it was super stingy. Every so often the stars would align and I'd have the perfect hair day. It's so frustrating not being able to figure it out. And with two little kids I just don't have time to devote to figuring it out right now. So I've just been washing with good products and doing the squish to condish for now. Maybe one day I'll be able to figure it out. Mine looked like your stringy picture pretty much all the time when I would style it.
Same 😢 fine and thin wavey hair. I’m in transition and all I get is stringiness. And I also have 2 little kids. With working full time, it leaves no time for a lot of hair care. Solidarity. 🩷
So... Watching your video, I have learned (after 40 years I might add 😬) that I have been doing every single thing wrong trying to get thick defined curls! It was so frustrating because every now and then, I would have the curls that I wanted, but the rest of the time, I would get stringy, nappy looking curls. Thank you SOOOOO much for making this video!!! I can't wait to see how my hair turns out after doing things the way you've shown ( and steering clear of everything I have been doing)!!!
I just followed your do and don't list and have one of the BEST curly hair days!!!! I'm so grateful that I found you. Thank you so much for helping me with my thin, curly hair 🎉❤
THIS is what my hair is like! Where have you been all my life? 😅 & I think post cancer treatment, my hair came back just as thick & wavy, but finer than before. So I still struggle with what I call “wildebeast” volume if I just let my hair dry naturally 😂 & I do have somewhat hard water, so clarify on occasion, but I’d really like to see what you do for your clarifying & deep conditioning routine.
*Healthy Hair First* . I discovered your channel when I was on a mission to just have healthy hair. I was going through menopause (hair fall-out), hard water and crappy product repercussions. I stopped coloring my hair, upgraded my products and got a series trim. I wasn't even attempting to embrace the "waves", but I did and have never looked back. I recently took off about four inches because pictures say it all. My hair had gotten to long to hold my 2B waves and looked sparse at the ends. Collar bone length works best for me as I don't have high density and I like to be able to put my hair up in a claw clip. I have yet to find a ride or die gel so I stick with mousse. T-shirt only for plopping and minimal diffusing works best for me. I only use distilled water for re-freshing and a bit of Aussie Mousse with Leave-In. Any time I have over manipulated my hair, it's not been a great wash day. I stay in my lane. It's a good wash day for me if my hair looks like yours does in this video. Thank you Courtney, you are a gem!
I just started my curly hair journey a few days ago, i always thought i had straight hair but i realised that my brothers and my mum have curly hair, and when i was a little kid i had curly hair too. The past few months I started noticing that in the shower my hair would naturally curl/wave when i conditioned it. Just tried using some curl cream in my hair the other night and oh my gosh, its really wavy, some loose ringlets but mostly stringy waves. My hair is bleached all over so it makes sense that its stringy and more wavy than curly. Im pretty sure that if i keep this up and get a few trims then it will become pretty defined. But i have also realised that my hair has stopped tangling so much after i let it curl! My hair always gets tangled at the back when i blow dry it straight. And id spend 30 minutes in the shower trying to detangle it. But tonight i washed it for the first time after trying the curly method and once the water soaked my har, i brushed my fingers through and there was ZERO tangles!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I’m at the beginning of my wavy hair journey and have done two wash days so far. I’m excited at just how wavy my hair is 😮, but was bummed with having curly fries on my head. I tried (without knowing how) to soften them up and break the cast, but unfortunately that just turned into a big frizzy mess. 🤦🏼♀️ I’m grateful of you taking the time to share your knowledge with us and am encouraged to continue. I live in Dallas and would be very appreciative if you would suggest a wavy/curly stylist I could partner with. Thank you again. 😊
I am watching this video for the third time in 2 weeks and thanks SO MUCH for mentioning transition. I'm very new into my curly girl journey and it seems like my curls just want to be stringy. I needed that reminder that it will just take time and patience in the beginning to get the results that I want. Thanks so much for putting things into perspective for me!!!
I have tried higher-end gels and I still can’t find anything that doesn’t make my hair feel kind of seized up (like bounce curl gel, orange marmalade, ouidad, etc). All the slip goes away. I end up only using a curl cream because of this, but then, of course, end up with very little hold for my delicate waves/curls. What’s the juiciest/slippiest/least seizing-up gel you have found for those of us that thought gels just aren’t right for us? 😝
Apparently UA-cam knows I have stringy frizzy curls. It finally did something right!! Love your curls! Going to try to incorporate these tips into my routine.
This is the best video! I've been getting stringy curls & I'm going to go down your list starting with a clarifying shampoo. I'm excited to try to get good curls now. Thank you.
I really thought that gels would not work on my hair. I was so frustrated that my curls would end up weird and frizzy. When you showed the xtreme gel and the LA looks gel as the culprits, I was shocked. Thanks for reminding us swavy curlies that it could just be the products. I'll search for new gels to use ❤
Really enjoyed watching this video. It has been almost 2yrs since I discovered I have wavy/curly hair. It has been a hair nightmare trying to get my stylist to help me figure it all out. Hoping to see better results with the help of your videos.
Like you, I got bored with my hair and bleached it! OMG! It was the Biggest mistake that I had made with my hair! It my curly/wavy hair went straight and damaged. I let my hair grow out and I got all of the bleach cut off. My goodness my hair is a lot healthier and it clumps better now!
Your hair looks great at the beginning of this video! I've been at this for 4 years now and still haven't figured it out. My hair looks like yours today. I clarified (Bumble&Bumble Sunday) deep conditioned x 5 mins with Curlsmith multi tasking (very fine, low density hair), rinsed, brush styled, mousse (Pantene which I use alot), gel (Ouidad red label) microplopped, hover and pixie diffused. Stringy parts, frizzy parts and lots of volume. UGH....... Sometimes this routine works great!
My curls got mad at me after I worked at a factory where I had to wear a hair net and put my hair up every day. They are really elongated. I also need a trim badly. It's nice to see you again. I haven't seen a video from you for a couple years.
I don't know why I feel like dumping my story here. My hair was the straightest when I was a kid, and as I started high school and went through puberty it started curling up, when I was around 12 years old. I didn't even realize I remember vividly in high school how a girl in my class would ask me all the time if I brushed my hair and I did (that was a mistake) I started dying it when I was 15 to 16 and went through a bunch of styles giving my hair no break, to then BLEACH the lower layer in 2022 (AND I JUST REALIZED WHY MY HAIR ON THAT LAYER DOES NOT CURL AT ALLL) I had that hairstyle for almost a year until I cut off all the dyed ends in APRIL 2023 I started to use some tips and curl cream in sept 2023, chopped it again in oct 2023 and now I'm finally taking my hair seriously. I've been doing intense research for the past 3 days and I am learning so much, whilst also considering experimenting to see what my hair likes or not, as I know how it reacts to some things already . This video has been of huge help, thank you!!
Thanks for this. I've been going nuts trying to get my hair to be full with curly definition for the past 2 months and I never know what my hair is going to look like. I was born with very straight hair but when I had my son (who has curls), my hair turned curly. I had no idea what to do with it so I just kept trying to make it straight again. I finally decided to embrace my hair and trying different products the past two months....it is exhausting, confusing, frustrating 😵💫. I guess I am just going through a transition - 6 more months to go .🤷
I'm in the long process of letting my hair dye grow out. Next month a year! I'm totally white! Today i had my hair dresser cut a good 4" off. I decided i didn't want to fight my wavy hair anymore. I'm going to love this new shoulder-length bob! I'll be happy when the dye is grown out. It's so healthy and shiny.
This video was so helpful for me! I JUST found out that I have naturally wavy/curly hair and am DEFINITELY in the transition phase. After years of damaging my hair with dye, bleach and TONS of heat, she is struggling..lol Thank you so much for this!
Thanks so much for covering g all the basics! I'm a total newbie going from strait to wavy & had no idea a Terry coth towel was a no no. Plus product info and product application/timing etc!! So helpful for this ol' gal!!❤
The microfiber towels from Curlsmith are my favorite. I own 4 of them. I am guilty of scrunching in gel like a maniac (mostly because I'm in a hurry). Ill try to back off of that. I was able to find the proper amount of sytling products to use on my hair using the teaspoon method. It really works. Don't have to use it anymore. All great tips.
Gurrrrll I needed this video. I just cut my hair to about shoulder length because I want to see if I can get my hair to curl. I’ve tried a couple times and it always looks stringy and I didn’t know how to break the cast of a gel product. Sooo glad I found you. I’m clueless as to what products to use but maybe I’m just not using them right. I hope you have a video discussing which products get the best results.
Thank you! I’ve been trying to make brush styling work for me, and yes there’s more definition but I don’t think it looks better on me. It can look a bit stringy. I found softer curls are more flattering for me. It’s hard for me to realize brush styling wasn’t working, cause everyone says to do it!
I bleached my hair 2 yrs ago Lost all my curl and finally gave up on it. Finally decided to get back on board and got 6 inches off it’s a little Shorter than yours. I have a little bleach left but it looks so much better. I’m in transition but hopefully it won’t last long. My hair is also about the same color as yours I do have some great curls coming out. Just gotta work on my tech and products my hair loves.
Great video!! 👍 This makes a lot of sense. My waves are very stringy and I see now that I am probably in the transition period. My ends are damaged and that's why the waves are stringy. Thanks very much.
Thank you for covering all the basis! This is literally the second video I see on curly hair as only just yesterday I realised I’ve got curly hair 😂 and since then I already made most of mistakes you talk about 😂 Now I need to see the video on proper washing and stuff… this is like a completely new and whole world this curly hair thing! Cool :D
Thank you for your video! I never comment on things but this was incredibly helpful for me. I’ve been sick for a while and my curls are just starting to come back but some are great and some are stringy so I learned quite a bit here. Thanks again!
1st off my name isn't Nicholas.... I am on my husbands youtube LOL... but I absolutely LOVED your video!!! A cpl ?'s for you though... 1st i heard you say "fearfully & wonderfully made" I hear you!!!!! Now to the actual question I have perm'd hair. I had straight straight straight hair growing up but than I started having a wave... in ONE spot... underneath in the back and than it slowly starting around the sides. I had horrible straight hair! So I recently got a perm & I am praying these tips will also work for my perm as it technically isn't natural!!!
My hair is SO stringy! I went from completely straight hair one kink that got wavier with each child until age 40 baby no 3 had ringlets at back 3 little ones 2 jobs and zero time to learn to style so either left naturally bumpy wavy bit frizzy or straightened for past 13 years. Now with perimenopause hormones its wavy to the root & very tight S wave but only wavy on top & sides when wet and clumps are SO stringy, in addition have been having bleach highlights for past few years with blow drying and flat irons twice a week and it looks frazzled when left to dry naturally or wavy, but it looks really beautiful & sleek and flattering when straight, personally I long for my straight hair back, but I can’t keep straightening because now due to a very major stomach surgeries impact on my digestion & vitamin absorption plus late perimenopause I have excessive hair loss I am concerned about, so I want to nurture my hair back to health with the wavy girl method and need to learn the styling, however the ultra stringy frazzled frizzy zero curls on top or side is really getting me down, i have a very public on display professional life and I like to look well groomed and always used to get comments on how beautiful my hair was it was kind of my pride & joy, now it’s a birds nest and getting me down, apparently I am over moisturised due to constant deep conditioning masks left on for ages every wash for a year but low on protein so am trying to sort that out, but any other advice? Having crap hair makes me feel really miserable I have always had lovely pretty hair I am finding it really hard to cope with the transition stage I have always given up trying to embrace my natural waves before after a few weeks but wasn’t aware of the importance of silicone free products us wavies need so am now trying again having spent £140 on all the products/equipment I need. And it takes SOOO long compared to wash dry straightening with ghd hot brush whole thing took 45-50 mins from washing to completion looking great & getting on with life, now it’s this whole drama that takes hours and the end it looks bloody terrible. Please help how can I help the top layer over heat damaged that just holds zero shape looks like straw/string but is soft fluffy frizzy & covers up the waves & coils underneath. Amy advice so appreciated your channel is AMAZING!!!❤
Sometimes it's the products, if you use drying or too heavy stylers, it can make a difference. I have noticed a diff when the humidity level changes. Where I am we have wet winters & very dry summer/fall. My hair is always better (more curly ) in the winter.
I just recently found out I have ✨Irish curls✨ and now falling down the rabbit hole of how to properly take care of my curls instead fighting against them.
Love this! Totally get it! It is a journey! I have quite a few videos for if you are just starting out including more recent ones. And a few resources in the video description. This is a more recent video for when you are just starting out: ua-cam.com/video/roMjPCZ-lbY/v-deo.html
You don't have to worry about split ends breaking off and doing regular trims if you take care of your ends with oil. It strengthens it so much that you can go at least 6 months between trims. Many are going even longer.
These video's I am linking should help! Also, in my more recent One Brand Wash Day video's that is mainly what I have been doing! ua-cam.com/video/EQp8kqRaSOY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Hg-nnbKcBZk/v-deo.html
Ypur hair looks great. This would be hair goals for me. But appreciate the tips. Super new to this. I just bought a bounce curl brush. I hope i didnt waste my money!
I truly lovvve that brush! I use that in most of my wash day videos. It may take a few try's to get the hang of it. But I have been on this journey for a few years now and have gone through a "transition" period with my hair a few times. I have quite a few videos for just starting out!
I, like many others, love your hair in this video. I did get a bit lost in exactly what you did differently on this wash day. I watched it to see how you got that volume. Could you do one explaining the different techniques for volume vs definition. Both are ofcourse ideal but probably not realistic. When I say please to a volume video, I don't mean the bad stuff obviously. I won't use Terry cloth towels or cheap, bad products. But perhaps different methods of styling that are also healthy for our hair. Thanks! Also, as I said in the fb pm I sent you. Thanks for the t-shirt tip! I now own sooooo many!
Hi Courtney! I’m a new subscriber, and thank you for your great tips! I have a question that I’d love your input on, please. If I occasionally blow dry and flat iron straighten my 2C/3A hair, do I completely reset the transition period? I feel like when I have to look “good” for an event, I can’t count on wearing my hair curly because it can look wonky and stringy. I also feel like I’m addicted, if you will, to my straight hair style which I can count on looking good (mostly from the benefit of the body my hair has from the curl). Please advise … do I need to completely stop straightening my hair to expect big, juicy curl clumps? xo
New sub! And still pretty new to curly hair. Thanks for the deeper explanations. Guilty for needing the terry cloth talk. I dont use one, but didnt know why so thank you my sister in curls and in Christ 😘
I know this is not how you choose to usually style your hair but India Batson would be so proud! So fluffy! It's cute for a change. A light serum or oil would cut down on the halo of frizz in the outer layer. I have baby fine fly away hair and use one drop oil or serum and thoroughly rub it into my hands then just lightly run my hands over the frizziest areas

Do you still need a chelating shampoo if you use a hard water filter?
I still use a chelating shampoo twice a month. This is what I use: amzn.to/48FJ4pw
The “ don’t “ result for you, is actually really cute and I like it
agreed! :) Not really stringy!
I thought so, too! It's cute either way!!
The hair you think looks bad actually looks gorgeous and natural. Very French. The defined version you like better looks pretty too but looks more "done". So in my humble opinion, whatever it is you think you're doing wrong, keep doing it! ❤❤❤
My hair turned curly after menopause. I went from completely straight hair to curls and I love them!
Oh my gosh! The same thing happened to me. I was totally surprised when my hairdresser said I had curly hair
@@Skeeter-vn5jt Isn't it a hoot? 🤣
Mine has turned curly since menopause, and mine was always straight
I wonder why nobody has mentioned about getting curly hair after menopause before
@@Skeeter-vn5jt I didn't know about it until I googled it wondering what was going on with my hair! I typed in why is my hair curly when it was straight before and menopause popped up. And of course, that is when the curls started appearing!
Your hair in todays video is, for me, a really good hair day!
You are so kind, I actually kind of agree with you. Looking back on the footage I'm actually surprised at how well it turned out.
Same here! 😂
Agreed, I’d be thrilled with that
I’m black, so I have coils hair., I don’t need to scrunch mine; it will roll up on its own if I let it.
I have thin, fine, low density curly hair as an Irish girl, and I also swear by some finishing hair paste

Me too! its been two weeks since I stopped straightening my hair. I just want to figure this out!
Courtney, your hair at the intro to the video is beautiful! I love the loose, tousled, less defined look.
Thank you so much!
Courtney, what I love about your hair with volume is that is it’s not frizzy, it’s still smooth. VERY NICE 😊
Thanks!
Ugh. The people who push techniques as a blanket imperative. Thank you for acknowledging that we can't all brush style! I'm tired of feeling like I'm being called lazy b/c I won't do it!

Same here- I’m 73 and have just, in the past 4 months, decided enough of trying to straighten! It’s a real learning process but I’m happy with it!
Your hair actually looks really cute lol
You are really kind! Looking back on the footage I see what you mean. It’s giving me 80s vibes in the best way. 😅
Yes haha at first I though it was the wanted result!
I’d love that much volume. I fight with my curls all the time. Looks great when it’s wet and then after it air dries forget about it 🙄
I agree! That's mine in a really good day!
I agree 😂
Problem is when you ssh if they know how to cut curly hair they say yes, and then don’t 🙄🤦♀️
@@OhhCharliee.. Agreed! That has happened to me several times.
YES! Not enough water and too much manipulation, whether scrunching or brush styling, will absolutely give me stringy curls. I can get brush styling to work if I constantly keep it dripping wet, but I don't feel the results are worth the extra time.
Your "before" is how my hair looks after styling exactly like you did you get the "after".
Same here.
Scary.
"Transition is one of those things that just takes time!" That'll preach, as they say. Love it!
Awe thank you!! I appreciate this! Glad the videos are helpful!
I really like that voluminous style on you though, looks beachy and cute 😊
I have the opposite problem. The top is more wavy/straighter and underneath is curly.
Curly Wavy Patty has a video about that she has different hair types and I think there are a few videos floating about regarding getting your curl types to match (Gena Marie)
My hair has a mind of its own. I literally have areas of wavy, straight, and curly. It's aggravating 😑
@@TheBaumcm Thank you so much--I'm going to start experimenting :)
If I could get my hair to look like your “before” I’d be thrilled! You haven’t seen frizz and stringy hair until you’ve met me 😩.
I actually like your hair at the start of the video too!! Probably because that's what my good hair days look like. I prefer a bit more of a looser wave and less definition on myself; I usually run a wide tooth comb through once or twice and I get so much volume! I've found the trick to combating frizz is to use two small pumps of the Curlsmith Full Body Thickening Lotion and it really keeps that frizz at a minumum :)
Also! I finally bought a chelating shampoo as we have *extremely* hard well water. Haven't tried that yet but gonna try next week when I have my next day off!
This is literally the most helpful video on addressing my hair issues I’ve ever seen. 👩🏻🦱🥰
Well, look at me solving hair issues like it’s my day job… oh wait, it is! 😂 Not really but, I’m thrilled this video actually helped! Now go forth and clump those curls like a pro! 🙌💁♀️
yes, please...info on clarifying and deep conditioning.
Please tell us how to clarify and get out hard water damage
And even though you tried to cause a sample of the "not good" it looks so amazing!
Solidarity. 🩷
I love your hair with all that volume!
Thank you! I thought the volume was fun too!
Your hair looks beautiful at beginning! So carefree!
Awe thanks!
I just followed your do and don't list and have one of the BEST curly hair days!!!! I'm so grateful that I found you. Thank you so much for helping me with my thin, curly hair 🎉❤
Glad this helped!
U had me at "fearfully and wonderfully made "
THIS is what my hair is like!
Thank you!
Omg! Loved this video a lot! I’m transitioning from chemically straightened hair to natural curly hair, and your tips are amazing! Thank you ❤️ 💁🏽♀️
I have tried higher-end gels and I still can’t find anything that doesn’t make my hair feel kind of seized up (like bounce curl gel, orange marmalade, ouidad, etc).
Glad you found this and it is helpful! Thank you!
Your videos are seriously SO informative. Thank you!
Glad they are helpful! Thank you!
My hair color matches yours, after years of highlights. I LOVE my natural hair color and now I’m learning to love my waves. Thank-you !
Love this so much!!! Yay!
Innersense brand gel is incredibly effective. It’s the first time my hair actually coil curls. Your hair looks amazing either way btw!
Try wearing a silk cap below the hair net if you can by any chance
I don't know why I feel like dumping my story here. My hair was the straightest when I was a kid, and as I started high school and went through puberty it started curling up, when I was around 12 years old. I didn't even realize
I remember vividly in high school how a girl in my class would ask me all the time if I brushed my hair and I did (that was a mistake)
I started dying it when I was 15 to 16 and went through a bunch of styles giving my hair no break, to then BLEACH the lower layer in 2022 (AND I JUST REALIZED WHY MY HAIR ON THAT LAYER DOES NOT CURL AT ALLL) I had that hairstyle for almost a year until I cut off all the dyed ends in APRIL 2023
I started to use some tips and curl cream in sept 2023, chopped it again in oct 2023 and now I'm finally taking my hair seriously.
I don’t ever blow dry. I air dry. Still lose the pretty curls when I use wet comb.
This video was so helpful for me! I JUST found out that I have naturally wavy/curly hair and am DEFINITELY in the transition phase. After years of damaging my hair with dye, bleach and TONS of heat, she is struggling..lol
Thank you so much for this!
Honestly? It looks amazing on you! ❤
Oh thank you!
Enjoy that natural hair color while you are young
My hair looks just like your before stringy photos. This video gave me so much hope that one day I can have pretty hair like yours 🥰
Its a journey for sure!
Thanks so much for covering g all the basics! I'm a total newbie going from strait to wavy & had no idea a Terry coth towel was a no no. Plus product info and product application/timing etc!! So helpful for this ol' gal!!❤
Happy to help!
I actually love your hair just like that! It's lovely!!
I have a lot of hair and i find layers help a LOT!!! rn my hair is one length and its definitely weighing my hair down
The microfiber towels from Curlsmith are my favorite.
I bleached my hair 2 yrs ago
Lost all my curl and finally gave up on it. Finally decided to get back on board and got 6 inches off it’s a little
Shorter than yours. I have a little bleach left but it looks so much better. I’m in transition but hopefully it won’t last long. My hair is also about the same color as yours
I do have some great curls coming out.
This is literally the second video I see on curly hair as only just yesterday I realised I’ve got curly hair 😂 and since then I already made most of mistakes you talk about 😂
Now I need to see the video on proper washing and stuff… this is like a completely new and whole world this curly hair thing! Cool :D
For all the DIYers we'd like to see an updated haircut tutorial!
Thank you for your video! I never comment on things but this was incredibly helpful for me. I’ve been sick for a while and my curls are just starting to come back but some are great and some are stringy so I learned quite a bit here. Thanks again!
I like the style that you call stringy better. It looks loose and easy. Corkscrews look too bunched up in my opinion
Awe thank you!
Hey, I just donated my hair to Children with Hair Loss as well! Love them! 🥰
This is the most helpful video I've ever watched about the CGM!
Oh, geez. I didn’t know any of these things. Thanks!
Absolutely! Glad this helped!
I love your video, so much information. I'm 35 and I have never been told to use microfiber towels on my hair.
Many haven't!
Who do you get your haircut by? Someone familiar with cutting curly hair? Someone who uses a specific technique, such as Deva Curl or Ouidad?
I’m sure my hair is in transition. I didn’t have curly hair until chemo. So I’m a complete newbie and here to learn as much as I possibly can.
DIY moisturizing and/or keratin have really helped my hair heal from processing.
You don't have to worry about split ends breaking off and doing regular trims if you take care of your ends with oil. It strengthens it so much that you can go at least 6 months between trims. Many are going even longer.
I would love more information about clarifying and deep conditioning!
These video's I am linking should help! Also, in my more recent One Brand Wash Day video's that is mainly what I have been doing!

Your natural color is really pretty
Awe, thank you!
Thank you! I wasn't using enough water, I was letting my hair get mostly dry before adding gel. I think I need to use more gel too
That may definitly help!!!
Oh wow! I feel so much better in the first 3 minutes. Im definitely still in transition from decades of straightening my hair.
I think it looks good!! I wish I would’ve seen this video when I first started my curl journey!!
Not all microfiber towels are great, either. I've learned that the hard way lol. Thanks for this awesome info!!!! 💜
True!
Please advise … do I need to completely stop straightening my hair to expect big, juicy curl clumps? xo
Helpful video! How do you clarify and decondition your hair?
