I think that only the elves are aware of the deception by Sauron when he first puts on the one ring. The men and dwarves remain ignorant because the dwarves continue to wear them and yes I know they don’t dominate the dwarves as planned but I don’t think they’d continue to wear them if they knew. Also I hope they will do justice to the time where Sauron reigns as lord of men and the earth as “tar mairon or zigur the great” and his subsequent time in Numenor and all the trouble and true evil he exudes into the men while becoming an advisor there… SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR SOME DARK FANTASY THERE!!!!!

I believe the close up of the dead fish in Gil-galad’s vision is of the river in front of Eregion dried up, which is shown in a “later this season” preview at the end of one of the episodes. I think it’s def the mountain being blown apart in his vision too because gil tells Galadriel that the ring has shown him visions of “mountains crumbling, waters rubbing dry…”
The River Sirannon. It also gets dammed by the orcs (and Sauron) further destroying the land. It leads to the Black Pool at the western gate forming and attracting the Watcher in the Water (which I think is what Disa is hearing) The Sirannon also flows into the Gwathlo and the Glanduin, two key rivers in that region. The Fellowship note that its river bed is dry as (as well as others in Eregion) as they pass through that land trying to cross the Redhorn Gate over the Misty Mountains.
I don't find so. But either way I always watch breakdowns n spoiler alerts even if I didn't watch yet. It makes me easier to catch all the Easter eggs n don't miss anything
Many complain about the writing, but I like the idea that although Sauron cannot control the Dwarves--they are children of Aule--he can mislead them, thus awakening the Balrog.
Second seasons is a definite refreshment and new intake of energy compared to the first one. As a Tolkien fan, I do enjoy seeing the small details not entirely written.. like how Annatar actually exerted control over others, how he setup his plans one by one. A plan within a plan. Overlooking the fact that they put old elves as "old man elves" and not actually immportal beings where physical look does not dramatically change over the centuries, it kidna took the mistery off the elves and humanized them. Only person who appeared older was Cirdan, who was supposedly only elf with facial hair
@@emergencyawesome Also curious if we get to see the land of Harad located even longer down south, since they also pledged their loyalty to Sauron during third age
I still think that the forging of the Rings should’ve happened in the first season. I’d also like to see a re-edit with everyone in different periods of the Second Age. - So we have the beginning of the first age stuff. (And then for the next scene) - Sauron as Annatar arriving in Eregion (Air Reg E on) to get Celebrimbor to forge the Rings of Power. (In the next scene) - We see the Hairfoots and the Stranger. (With the next) - The Dwarves, Elrond, Gil-galad and Galadriel. (and finally) - Galadriel is sent back to Valinor. But jumps ship and meets Sauron as Halbrand and they go to Numemor, while there Sauron gives one of the Rings to Pharazon and plants in his mind the idea of Valinor being the land of immortality before living with Galadriel. (And jump back-and-forth) Otherwise, for those that read the books, we get 2,000 years happening seeming all at once with characters who shouldn’t have been born for the better part of that, living at the same time as characters who died millennia earlier, and with flashbacks to the early First Age to boot.
If I remember correctly the Witch King of Angmar was originally an Eastern King who dabbled in magic. Also remember that Sauron does not possess a Palantir yet, not until far into the third age.
No. Angmar is literally to the north of Eriador. It's original capital was Carn Dum. By the time he gets a Ring of Power from Sauron in the SA "his name has been forgotten" Tolkien writes. Angmar is a remote and harsh land difficult to access with many tribes of wild men. Tolkien does suggest that the Angmarim kingdom is a Mageocracy and possibly originally of Numenorean descent. Sauron uses the Witch King and his forces to crush Arnor in the north.
@@MCPrimetime It's almost certainly the same Balrog who ( within the show's deviating storyline ) contended with the Elf in season one and inadvertently created Mithril. I actually liked that scene, improbabilities aside, because it at least showed a hint of the sorcerous aspects of Balrogs, and comes as close as major motion picture/television adaptations yet have to something like the contest that Gandalf had with Durin's Bane ( Balrog ) over control of the door to Balin's burial chamber, a scene sadly left entirely out of both the Jackson ad Bakshi films.
My head hurts, trying to comprehend Tolkien's LOTR universe. I don't even know which language to explain my brain in: Elvish but either Quenya and Telerin? Westron, Adûnaic, Black Speech, Dwarvish, Entish, Old Entish, Valarin, Hobbitish, Stoorish, Black Adûnaic?
As for the Elvish languages, these two are the most important: Quenya (High-elven) = spoken primarily in Valinor and by the High Elves who returned to Middle-earth (e.g. Galadriel, Gil-galad, Celebrimbor) Sindarin (Grey-elven) = spoken primarily in Middle-earth by the Teleri Elves who never made it to Valinor (e.g. Thingol, Arondir, Legolas)
Sauron can only manipulate through the Palantirs in the third age when he has the Stone of Minas Ithil! He cannot manipulate them now when the Numenorians still owe them all cause it is Elendil, Anarion and Isildur who bring each 3, 2 and 2 with them; the 7 seeing stones 1 for Annuminas, 1 for Elestirion and 1 for Amon Hen; all in Arnor. In Gondor 1 in Minas Anor/Tirith, 1 in Minas Ithil/Morgul, 1 in Orthanc and 1 in Osgiliath!
@@DropBear_42 The Undying Lands a.k.a. Valinor are/is the home of the divine immortal spirits (the Ainur = Valar + Maiar) who are the most powerful beings next to God Eru Illúvatar. Mere mortals like the Númenorians wouldn't stand a chance whatsoever.
@@berlindude75 yes but the entire reason behind the great sundering and the destruction of numenor came from the ainur appealing to Eru because they were worried the numenorians would destroy their land and much of them. And this wasn’t even peak Numenor, hence my question.
Episodes seem shorter to me so I'm glad it's going on till season 5. I'm a LOTR noob so no theories from me. Thanks to all the smarter people in the comments helping me sift through the lore. Big up Charlie
I predict that Sauron will start making the One Ring at the end of this season, finishes it in Season 3, and the Fall of Numenor will be in Season 4. I could be wrong but we'll see.
The series COMPLETELY BOTCHES the lore of the rings of power, for which the series is named. The three elven rings were made by the elves alone AFTER Annatar was exposed as Sauron, They were made to fight back against the corrupted influence Sauron had over the previous rings for dwarves and men. Celebrimbor used some of the techniques taught to him by Annatar, but those three rings were never touched by his influence. This is just yet more disrespect to Tolkien.
That's wrong. The three Elven Rings were made after Annatar left Eregion, but _before_ Sauron made the One Ring. At that point of time Celebrimbor had no idea that Annatar was actually Sauron. Only when Sauron put on the One Ring the Elves knew that they had been betrayed, and Celebrimbor went to Lothlorien to ask Galadriel for advice what to do with the 3 Elven Rings. The rings were also not made to fight Sauron, they were made to prevent decay and preserve the beauty of the Elven realms in Middle-earth. The three Ring had not been touched by Sauron, but as Celebrimbor used the knowledge he got from Annatar to craft the Elven rings, the three rings would still have fallen under the control of the One Ring. That's the reason they did not wear the Rings after Sauron put on the One Ring.
But it wasn't just kings who got the rings, but also wizards and normal men. My favorite for the Witch King is the son of Ar Pharazon, Khamul could become the dark wizard, Theo could also be one of the Ringwraiths. Perhaps the third one whose name is known. As far as I know, three Ringwraiths' names were known.
For the love of god I hope they don't choose Theo to become the Witchking, he is way too badass to have been this weird kid in his prior life. I understand the theory but I still hope it won't happen.
The battle of the last alliance cannot jump that fast! He has to go to Numenor and loose his physical form…numenor invasion of valinor is before the battle Of last alliance.
Going to be a season or two until the one ring is forged. Because Sauron has to be at mount Doom in Mordor to craft it right? Theyll want him to have some fun with it in the show to show the audience just how powerful he was and how controlling. Then i think that will be the big build up to the end battle where Isildur cuts the ring from Saurons hand. I reckon they'll do a rings of power verion of the scene where Elrond's telling Isildur to cast the ring into the fire at mount Doom. Elrond still has shorter hair at the moment. So they'll have to let his hair grow longer and longer with each season too.
I couldn't find an episode 3 review to point out a detail: at the end of 2.3, Annatar clearly palms the mithril and possibly drops another ore in the stirrer.
I think its more likely to be the watcher in the water that she encountered. Sounded a bit eldged* vibes. Khazad-dum is occupied by multiple klans through the this part of the time line. I could see the doors being a nice set piece through a season or two and then destruction as it escapes.
Thanks for explaining everything! I was confused by how the assistant elf went invisible like Frodo because he hadn’t made that ring yet. I thought this was the best episode of the series.
In the books, Sauron already had a palantir that he used to manipulate others when they used theirs. And had to use HIS Ring to manipulate /control the other Ring-bearers. He has not made the Ring nor gained a Palantir yet, so how is he manipulating people in Numenor miles away?
I don't think Sauron had any influence on the seeing stones at this time. At first they were used for communication acrossed distances. Sauron wouldn't get one until the the downfall of Minas Ithil in the third age At that point it wasn't safe to use them.
Good old internet. One side and then the other. I can't think of a single show that is 100% like the source material. I was talking about Charlie explaining LotR.
I assume Season 3 will have the one ring of power. Because he has that before Numernor captures him. I believe the conflict around Eregion will last into season 3 and the elves need Numernor to help them push back Sauron. I believe The balrog will show up but it will be a plot that prince Durin will find a way to trap it again. Then in the next age it just escapes. I know it’s wonky but it will at least adhere to canon that Durin the 6th is slain by him.

I was waiting you to refer to Sauron putting on the ring as his "Order 66".
I really like the show. I understand the criticism in relationship to the books, but it really is a good watch.
I once had a dream where I was talking and nothing but Elvish language, but with an Elvis Presley accent
This Godamm show is so hard to follow, I’m so glad Charlie’s here for us!!
Thanks!
Nope, thank you! I would be sooo lost without ya!
I don't find so. But either way I always watch breakdowns n spoiler alerts even if I didn't watch yet. It makes me easier to catch all the Easter eggs n don't miss anything
@@carlos_picyweiner yes, we need people to explain things to us. we are people who can't count past 100. I can't even spell my own name.
Hard to follow?? Lmao 🤣 how in the world?
Definitely and improvement, it keeps heating up
@@user-tj5yg5pk8v Agreed! Let's be realistic the show starts looking like Tolkien stuff
Sauron is the perfect Politician of today's time.
She saw Sauron not the Balrog. She emphasized that he had been here and amongst them.
In the story of Beren and luthian, fenrod (galadriel's brother) have a battle using songs of power, unfortunately fenrod does not survive that story
Impressed by the actors playing Sauron/Anatar and Celebrimbor
Thanks for the breakdown, Charlie ❤
Thank you!
I hope his ill end is actually becoming the mouth of Sauron. And going through those gross mutations
Such a Weasley character
I was wondering if the creature was the Watcher in the Water - I saw the water go sploot, and that's where my mind went...

This season is so much fun. I can't wait till the Galadriel/Sauron reunion
What if she just saw Sauron’s presence … yeah you even say that.
That’s how I saw it.. for that reason.
So why are we taking it as a Balrog?
I love this friggin show!
Maybe we will se Khamul as one of the kings of Rhun
Safe bet!
(And then for the next scene)
- Sauron as Annatar arriving in Eregion (Air Reg E on) to get Celebrimbor to forge the Rings of Power.
(In the next scene)
- We see the Hairfoots and the Stranger.
(With the next)
- The Dwarves, Elrond, Gil-galad and Galadriel.
(and finally)
- Galadriel is sent back to Valinor. But jumps ship and meets Sauron as Halbrand and they go to Numemor, while there Sauron gives one of the Rings to Pharazon and plants in his mind the idea of Valinor being the land of immortality before living with Galadriel.
(And jump back-and-forth)
Otherwise, for those that read the books, we get 2,000 years happening seeming all at once with characters who shouldn’t have been born for the better part of that, living at the same time as characters who died millennia earlier, and with flashbacks to the early First Age to boot.
I have a fever and the doctor prescribed more balrog
A backstory episode for the Balrog would be fun.
Gil Galad sent the ships prepared to go to Mordor to Numenor instead.
My head hurts, trying to comprehend Tolkien's LOTR universe. I don't even know which language to explain my brain in:
Elvish but either Quenya and Telerin? Westron, Adûnaic, Black Speech, Dwarvish, Entish, Old Entish, Valarin, Hobbitish, Stoorish, Black Adûnaic?
As for the Elvish languages, these two are the most important:
Quenya (High-elven) = spoken primarily in Valinor and by the High Elves who returned to Middle-earth (e.g. Galadriel, Gil-galad, Celebrimbor)
Sindarin (Grey-elven) = spoken primarily in Middle-earth by the Teleri Elves who never made it to Valinor (e.g. Thingol, Arondir, Legolas)
Sauron can only manipulate through the Palantirs in the third age when he has the Stone of Minas Ithil!
He cannot manipulate them now when the Numenorians still owe them all cause it is Elendil, Anarion and Isildur who bring each 3, 2 and 2 with them; the 7 seeing stones
1 for Annuminas, 1 for Elestirion and 1 for Amon Hen; all in Arnor. In Gondor 1 in Minas Anor/Tirith, 1 in Minas Ithil/Morgul, 1 in Orthanc and 1 in Osgiliath!
Comparing the Numenorians invading The Undying Lands to "suicide by cop," absolutely sent me. LMAOOOOO
Wouldn’t they have won if they were at their peak?

Sauron the gaslighter
This episode was pretty good, if it continues in this direction that will be great…
The series COMPLETELY BOTCHES the lore of the rings of power, for which the series is named.
Pretty good episode!
The Iron Crown backstory for the Nazgul for the Rpg they used to have the license for was quite good!
i like Elonds new hair. loved the shot of him tearing off his cloak while running like a total bad-ass....i think im in love
Thank you
Welcome!
Thank you i was waiting for the breakdown.. NYC one ❤️
I don’t want to get my Star Wars card pulled, but Sauron is just like Palpatine
For the love of god I hope they don't choose Theo to become the Witchking, he is way too badass to have been this weird kid in his prior life. I understand the theory but I still hope it won't happen.
Would be a stupid move. He is from a completely different region to the WK. He could be an heir of the line of kings from the Southlands.
I understand the witch king maybe from or a descendant of Númenór. I’ve read three rings were given lords of the .Númenórean
The battle of the last alliance cannot jump that fast! He has to go to Numenor and loose his physical form…numenor invasion of valinor is before the battle
Of last alliance.
Yeah he has to go and corrupt Al-Pharazon and enhance the Morgoth cult worship which prompts the invasion of Valinor and seals the Numenoran's fate.
Outstanding episode perhaps the best of the show overall its finally settling into itself.
I couldn't find an episode 3 review to point out a detail: at the end of 2.3, Annatar clearly palms the mithril and possibly drops another ore in the stirrer.
Never say balrogs are stronger than Sauron
Bloody loving it. I just want more. I really hope we do get 3 more series! And thanks Charlie! 🎉❤
Awesome Breakdown.
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
I love how Sauron always looks so focussed, showing almost no emotion. I quite like the actor
it was Sauron / Annatar that the smith saw in the forge
I can’t believe he murdered the most handsome man on the show 😭😭😭😭 idk if I can keep watching without him
I think its more likely to be the watcher in the water that she encountered.
No problem!

In the books, Sauron already had a palantir that he used to manipulate others when they used theirs. And had to use HIS Ring to manipulate /control the other Ring-bearers. He has not made the Ring nor gained a Palantir yet, so how is he manipulating people in Numenor miles away?
We don't know that he doesn't already have one. He has already been to Numenor as Halbrand.
I wonder what would happen if Sauron put all 20 rings of power on his fingers and toes
That's some Thanos energy right there.
He does not need to right? That is what the one ring is for.
@@Tarquin2718 well he did spend time and effort trying to get all the rings back for some reason. Who knows
asking the real questions.
He'd be able to fully control himself. Great if you're trying to quit smoking or abstain from red meat.
I don't think Sauron had any influence on the seeing stones at this time. At first they were used for communication acrossed distances. Sauron wouldn't get one until the the downfall of Minas Ithil in the third age At that point it wasn't safe to use them.
Thanks.
So glad to hear what's going on.

@@carolc.776 mate I’d go for 5% at the moment but we can’t even hit that

I assume Season 3 will have the one ring of power. Because he has that before Numernor captures him. I believe the conflict around Eregion will last into season 3 and the elves need Numernor to help them push back Sauron.
I believe The balrog will show up but it will be a plot that prince Durin will find a way to trap it again. Then in the next age it just escapes. I know it’s wonky but it will at least adhere to canon that Durin the 6th is slain by him.
