‘Meridian network” refers to traditional Chinese medicine’s view of energy flows throughout the body and is the system whose stimulation is central to the practice acupuncture. Meridians allow for the flow of energy, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”), to circulate throughout the body. Meridians exist in corresponding pairs and each meridian has multiple acupuncture points along the pathway.
Confirm. The meridian system is central to Hindu-Buddhist medicine as well as to Traditional Chinese Medicine / TCM. When people use the word "meridian" in the context of the human body it always means TCM meridian. There are major and minor meridians. Meridians often relate directly to organ systems. A meridian is not a physical structure per se but more of an energy flow. You do not find meridians in human tissue under the microscope, so far as I know. A primary way to balance or stimulate meridians is via needle [ acupuncture ] on specific meridian points / acupuncture points that are found on the skin.
@claudiogallucci563 Me too, Dune Prophecy is great and all but there's something to be said about original IP's that literally are the source material where everything is a completely new experience for the audience. Dorotea is very clearly Lila’s grandmother, not her mother. She says something like “your mother isn’t here” and also the scene takes place around thirty years after Dorotea’s death. It wouldn’t be possible for her to be Lila’s mom, I’m pretty sure Lila isn’t supposed to be in her thirties.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking! Before, they mentioned that Dorothea was the granddaughter of Raquella. And when they talked to Lila, they told her that Raquella was her great great grandmother or something. Which means she can’t be Dorothea’s daughter since that would just make her Raquella’s great granddaughter.

There's a huge backstory before Dune Prophecy. Reverend Mother Rachella was firstly a medical doctor, working alongside her lover, Dr. Mohandas Suk. Rachella is also an illegitimate granddaughter of Vorian Atreides (Vorian was the first person to hold the Atreides name.) Dr. Mohandas Suk later created on his own the Suk School, after Rachella decided to stay in planet Rossak and become the first Reverent Mother of the Sisterhood. The events in Dune Prophecy happen way after The Sisterhood moved from Rossak to Wallach IX.
The voice not working on him had nothing to do with training from the BG. It's always worked on everyone. Even on Paul and he was more powerful than most. This is something else we haven't seen before.
Desmond says he was eaten by the worm, and when he emerged from its teeth, he wasn't afraid. That was episode 1. Desmond didn't just drink the water of life. He drowned in it like a sandworm drowned in water.

I’ve got so say, so far, I’m really digging this show. It’s starting off very political, which I like, but some people see this as “a slow start” (because there’s no explosions, fighting scenes or riding sand worms). There’s more to cinema than all of that! The plot is interesting and mysterious. The world building and scenery is intriguing and well done and the character developments are coming along. Personally, I think this is off to a very good start and I could see this becoming the next GOT, which also started off “slow” and political. I’m super excited to see how this show develops and evolves!
Sadly this show won't be a got type because it's only got 6 eps and they can only take this story so far till it's end since it's based of mainly 1 book, but it could be like house of Dragon, an anthology series which after the dance will apparently start a new arc ? I think Valya knows Jen is a plant, and is playing her , waiting for her to slip up. Remember in Episode 1, Valya asks her in front of everyone, “explain to everyone why you are here”, then she gives the story of slitting throats and ZFG. Then Valya’s strange look…
Jen could also be a red herring. She might be with Valya and is helping her weed out weak candidates by seeing who falls the most for negative views on the Bene Gesserit. Who better to seek out those who will betray you than a loyal student willing to play the devils advocate. She also seems way too obviously ‘bad’ if that makes sense, the writers would be incredibly obvious if they went through with that. Hello,Great video! I believe Desmond may have a connection to the Bene Tleilax, possibly as a Tleilaxu, shape-shifter, face dancer, or ghola. This would position him as a significant adversary to the Bene Gesserit. Gesserit and Thleilaxu are enemies in the books. Best regards,
Honestly I think it’s going pretty good overall in terms of acting. Desmond is clearly the most interesting character thus far, but almost everyone has been fairly captivating, and I enjoy the plot progression so far
Thank you, Charlie. I was hoping that you would cover each episode. You did nit disappoint. I love watching your recaps. You always catch something I missed. Your interpretations add so much to my enjoyment. Have a great Thanksgiving.
@bbmnb potentially I'm leaning towards him being a accidental quask heridrach prototype because the ix don't have advanced tech yet in the timeline and during this period the people who made gholas I forgot their name havnt perfected that cloning tech and still at most can only clone body parts, so if this show was set a couple thousands yrs later then the ix or ghola theories would be more viable
I think he's a Ghola or Face Dancer. In the books the Tleilax hate the Bene Gesserit and vice versa because of the Axlotl Tanks. Also, they know how to genetically manipulate their Gholas and Face Dancers to be immune to the voice.
It feels a bit slow in some way. Specially for being six episodes only. But don't get me wrong, I like it and can't wait for the next episode. And I'm just so happy we're getting more from the Dune universe. More!
I love that many of these comments prove to be useful when it comes to unraveling every single clue and theory that I'm not aware of even after repeated viewing, the same can be said to the recently brilliant Marvel show Agatha All Along.
I haven't seen anybody mention that Desmond says "Shai-halud took my eye and gave me a great gift" but I have no idea what kind of meaning could be behind it but it sounds important
I like to believe he's a protype quask hedrach so the sand worm maybe have partially fused some blood or something to heal him making him slightly sand worm like leto 2 later becomes, a popular theory is leto 2 went back in time to fuck with Desmond to make sure the Timeline goes down a certain path to ensure the events of dune take place
Hi Emergency Awesome ,l know people are excited for Sonic 3, but you gotta remember Kraven is also coming to theaters December 13; A movie that not a lot of people are willing to watch. We should give Kraven a chance, especially with its director and the number of reshoots they had; to make it more "comic accurate". Hopefully it's good, and I, for some reason, have a feeling that it's going to be decent. My question is: "Do you think Kraven, although the speculation of it's Box Office Opening, has a chance to be one of the better Solo Villain Spider man movies?". Hopefully that's the case. Final thing: You’re great, you make my day every time you upload videos. Thanks.
I’ve never read the books 😬 but I grew up loving 1984 Dune and the tv series. But I was always most fascinated by the bene. So I was chomping at the bit when they released the trailer for Prophecy. But bc of my lack of book knowledge, there’s a lot I’m missing and don’t understand. So this is my long way of saying thank you for your videos. Not only do they point out things I missed, they help me understand the Dune universe and my rewatch makes so much sense haha. So, thank you 🙏 Can’t wait for next weeks video 😂
I think the blue eyes in the prophecy vision are those of a machine. They resemble the eyes of the lizard, with the same shade of blue and glassy appearance.
since denis villeneuve has decided to adapt dune messiah, i'm guessing that it's almost guaranteed he'll be adapting children of dune and god emperor of dune as well. this spinoff show identifies itself as a prequel to the movies, and after watching ep 2, i'm even more convinced that the prophecy is about leto 2 but that none of the sisters in the show will actually read the prophecy correctly.
I don't think Desmond is a ghola, because Hayte was the first ghola to remember his past life as Duncan Idaho. I believe surviving the sandworm have Desmond the mental abilities he uses because of how immersed in the spice he was in such close proximity to the sandstorm.
"If you know, you know." I'd love to see the Butlerian Jihad but, man, would it be expensive to do right. I have got to get back to the books. I'm part way through Children of Dune. I think the ancestors scene was so well done.
Well if it is based somewhat on the Brian Herbert books, I suspect that Desmond Hart is one of the twins of Agamemnon that Juno activated. The twins Juno activated had their genetics enhanced and had other modified super human skills. Could also explain why there are 2 attacks on seperate ends of the universe.
Man even without Denis in charge this has been amazing. The cinematography, writing, political intrigue and twists have been great. Travis Fimmel and Valya’s actress are the big highlights but I’m loving all the Bene Gesserit stuff we’re getting. As someone who hasn’t read the books yet, seeing the world fleshed out is great
In the books they were allowed to keep the "family atomics" for self defense. They just agreed not to use them on one another. Paul finding the loophole to use it on the defenses of the city was legally sketchy at best. Also it was really Sarina's son being killed by the independent thinking machine Arasamus that started the Butlarian Jihad many years before Sarina Butler herself was killed. Sorry about name spelling errors, I just listen to the audiobooks.
My theory: Desmond is a thinking machine in Human Shape and form. And that's why he cannot be sensed of lying or even controlled by the voice. He can roast someone by maybe microwaving them from his parts.

My thoughts exactly. He's been a soldier who wouldn't have the time for that much training to become that powerful. If what he says about the worm is true, that's how he gained the power and someone else is controlling him.
I'm not a Dune book reader but the movies and this show have got me hooked. It's not too hard to understand, it's just you have to listen well. I got confused about the agony ceremony. Isn't the blue poison originally the sand worms blood?
I need this show to gimme more of the butlerian jihad. We have to get another (more threatening) robot too. Loving it so far. Got these videos on post notifications too 😂
I don't think ghola's had access to their memories until Duncan had his crisis about killing Paul. He could be a ghola trained to be this guy, but I doubt it. I don't know when facedancers became a thing, but I think he's likely to be an early version, and watching these people die makes him start to lose control, so his hand to his temple is him maintaining.
I'm pretty sure the bull stuff is meant to represent the Harkonnen family. The name Harkonnen itself comes from the Finnish name "Härkönen", with the root "härkä" meaning "bull" in English. This then informs the imagery in the original Dune. The Atreides family tradition of fighting bulls (and the death of Paulus) serve as a sort of visual storytelling metaphor for the Atreides fight against the Harkonnens. Big Spoilers for Dune: Messiah inbound I personally don't think that Desmond Hart can possibly be a ghola specifically because he remembers himself before his death. A major plot point of Messiah is the ghola Hayt eventually regaining his prior memory at the end of the story. Though this event ends up ruining a Bene Tleilax assassination attempt, the Tleilaxu see it as a win because they then begin using gholas as a form of immortality. This means that they won't discover this ability for another ten thousand years unless we plan to write the show so that they used to know and then forget how to do it. I think it makes far more sense for Desmond to be either a Facedancer, some sort of Ixian technological creation, or maybe even both.
I think the prophecy makes sense for Desmond being Vorian Atreides as he would be an ancestor to both Paul and Leto II. I know nothing about dune though just watching the show because the movies were cool
I'm so excited for this series and I love your videos. Correct me if im wrong though but isn't the landsraad and the emperor two seperate bodies. The landsraad balances the emperors power so he doesnt have full control. Which is why in the original dune book. He killed Duke atreides because he was popular in the landsraad. Also I dont think Desmond is a gola because the teilaxu wouldn't be around during this period
I also don't think that Desmond is trained in thier ways because the voice is a new technique here that valya creates as she mentioned in the first episode. And Paul used it against a reverend mother in dune part 2 and it worked just fine
The other option is Omnius. Those space eyes had a metallic electronic sound and feel to them.i also think Desmon is at least part machine and the Ixians are definitely involved
The prophecy here concerns Desmond, it is pretty obvious that he's the sisterhood's challenge they have to face to evolve and survive. I don't think Desmond knows about the voice as Valia created this technic and probably learned it to very few acolytes. The answers to that is something else.

Ragnor lodbrok best psrt of the show
I love the “I’m playing both sides, so I cannot lose.” That the Benes are doing.
Desmond is carrying this show so hard.
I agree. Which is ironic as he’s a terrible actor in every show except Vikings.
@@ttrestle Fimmel is terrible ? wait what??
Facts. Everything else isn't interesting which is crazy
@ ugh. You ppl are the worst.
Honestly I think it’s going pretty good overall in terms of acting. Desmond is clearly the most interesting character thus far, but almost everyone has been fairly captivating, and I enjoy the plot progression so far
I like watching your episode breakdowns because I can tell you have also read the source material. Thanks!
Thank you, Charlie. I was hoping that you would cover each episode. You did nit disappoint. I love watching your recaps. You always catch something I missed. Your interpretations add so much to my enjoyment. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Ragnar Lothbrook is still a visionary
i was thinking Desmond Hart could be a Face Dancers.
I also heard in speculating threads, that he could be a Ghola? Or Ix related, is that possible? sorry I haven't read the books yet.. 😅
That would be awesome
More!
Nice!
Thank you for deciding to do weekly videos! As a fan of the movies, your wealth of knowledge and the way you explain things helps greatly!
One thing is certain this series trumps house of dragon by far
Greatly Appreciate your Breakdowns for this very mysterious series. Keep up the good work.
Spice is a hell of a drug
Isn't Dorothea Lila's grandmother?
Mother
@@emergencyawesome But the current time period is 30 years after Dorothea died. Lila doesn’t seem that old
Dorotea is the grandmother, her great-grandmother was Raquella
@@johan1q Exactly
Yea I’m pretty sure Dorothea is Lila grandmother. I think Dorothea’s mother is still alive that’s why she isn’t there in the tomb.
Love valya tried using the voiced on Desmond and he just taunting him
Hi Emergency Awesome ,l know people are excited for Sonic 3, but you gotta remember Kraven is also coming to theaters December 13; A movie that not a lot of people are willing to watch.
Great analysis. You talked about things I didn't notice. Thank you!
Thanks!
glad you're doing this series
Meridian is a Traditional Chinese Medicine term it conducts the flow of chi
Thx for making these videos Charlie, it’s very helpful.
This episode was fantastic so much better than last week the spice trance was flawless cinema.
We can only hope! He is killing it so far with the dune series and movies
DV himself has said over and over again that he is finishing with Messiah and isn't interested in doing Children or God Emperor.
I don't think Desmond is a ghola, because Hayte was the first ghola to remember his past life as Duncan Idaho. I believe surviving the sandworm have Desmond the mental abilities he uses because of how immersed in the spice he was in such close proximity to the sandstorm.
"If you know, you know."
I'd love to see the Butlerian Jihad but, man, would it be expensive to do right.
I have got to get back to the books. I'm part way through Children of Dune.
I think the ancestors scene was so well done.
Thanks for the episode by episode breakdowns. These videos are so good
Charlie, you are on fire with this recap! Lisan al gaib level! 🙌 (edit: I don’t mean Desmond fire 😳)
As someone who hasn’t read the books yet, seeing the world fleshed out is great
WOW, many thanks for all the infos. Super interesting!
It's a great breakdown there's a lot about June I don't know so that added information is great
I can't wait for Dune 3
In the books they were allowed to keep the "family atomics" for self defense. They just agreed not to use them on one another. Paul finding the loophole to use it on the defenses of the city was legally sketchy at best.
Also it was really Sarina's son being killed by the independent thinking machine Arasamus that started the Butlarian Jihad many years before Sarina Butler herself was killed. Sorry about name spelling errors, I just listen to the audiobooks.
Travis Fimmel's character is like watching "Raised by Wolves" again.
Wait, there’s a new dune TV show? Definitely have to go watch that. I canceled cable but it’s still easy to watch
Great stuff as always Charlie. Thank you for doing what you do 😊
Looking forward to seeing Fremen on the show, they are badass👍
Great breakdown Charlie
My theory:
Desmond is a thinking machine in Human Shape and form. And that's why he cannot be sensed of lying or even controlled by the voice. He can roast someone by maybe microwaving them from his parts.
The Emperor is not safe on his throne
The Spice must flow, and the Show must go on. But the Empereor, maybe, MUSTN'T rule the known Universe in all Future. When the Kwisatz Haderach comes, he kicks the Ass of the Empereor. 🔥🔥🔥😈😈😈🔥🔥🔥#MeinBruderKommtMitVielenVIELENFremenkriegern 🔥🔥🔥
All he can do is ride the worm...
Thanks Charlie great update
No problem 👍
This is my favorite episode so far
I love this show so far now I know why Paul's sister is kinda messed up in the head
yep!
Shadow with 🏍️ motorcycle, and his gun 🔫 ✅
Space colony arc ✅
Eclipse Cannon blowing up half of the moon like in the adventure two battle and sonic X the TV show season two ✅
The only thing missing is the bio lizard rogue the bat and Amy Rose? Everything in the sonic movie three trailer that came out today
Olivia Williams portrayed the first live action Moira McTaggart. Emily Watson I remember from Equilibrium portraying the onscreen wife to Sean Bean the clerk.
You mean in "X 3" ??? 😮😮😮That was Olivia Coleman ? Or am I completely wrong now ?? 😅😅
@@michaelerb7316 X-Men: The Last Stand is X3. That is Olivia Coleman. Her role was very limited which sucked.
@Brook11223 yes, that's true, I meant "X-Men: The Last Stand". THAT is Olivia Coleman ??? 😳😳😳Unbelievable, I have to rewatch the third Movie. I never knew that. Thank you for the Information. 👍👍👍
Olivia Williams, not Colman
@@artbysabra My bad I thought I said Williams and it's corrected. LOL.
This show is off to a great start
Desmond wasn't trained, he's possessed by something that is
My thoughts exactly. He's been a soldier who wouldn't have the time for that much training to become that powerful. If what he says about the worm is true, that's how he gained the power and someone else is controlling him.
@@zane1374 do you imagine is paul atraides
I'm not a Dune book reader but the movies and this show have got me hooked. It's not too hard to understand, it's just you have to listen well. I got confused about the agony ceremony. Isn't the blue poison originally the sand worms blood?
I need this show to gimme more of the butlerian jihad. We have to get another (more threatening) robot too. Loving it so far. Got these videos on post notifications too 😂
Thanks!
The meridian network may be a reference to acupuncture meridians/channels/vessels in traditional Chinese medicine.
Boy the last scene was so satisfying 😂
Big Spoilers for Dune: Messiah inbound
I personally don't think that Desmond Hart can possibly be a ghola specifically because he remembers himself before his death.
I've read the books 5 times and this show is as confusing and nonsensical to me as it is to my gf who hasn't read them at all.
I think Desmond Hart is Cotton Eye Joe, all theory’s have been pointing to that so far
I think the prophecy makes sense for Desmond being Vorian Atreides as he would be an ancestor to both Paul and Leto II. I know nothing about dune though just watching the show because the movies were cool
THANK YOOOOOU Charlie!!!! 😊😊🎉
Meridian network isn’t the brain but more like the endocrine system - but for ancient terms its like the Chakra and Nadi system
Tell more
The prophecy here concerns Desmond, it is pretty obvious that he's the sisterhood's challenge they have to face to evolve and survive. I don't think Desmond knows about the voice as Valia created this technic and probably learned it to very few acolytes. The answers to that is something else.
