Yeah I also commented something similar yesterday, but according to other people the Bene Tleilax do not exist yet in this form, but they also added additional information so I recommend searching for my comment and read the replies under it if you're interested.
From the show notes, Mikaela in the bar IS a descendant of the Fremen. But she's never been to Arrakis. Travis Fimmel said filming the burning scene with Charlie Hodson-Prior (Pruwet) was hard. Fimmel was so good in "Raised by Wolves." I got part way through "Children of Dune" and hit the overload point from reading Dune back to back. I'm going to have to get back to them once I finish "Nether Station" by Kevin J. Anderson.
Just a thought: the eyes could actually be Leto II instead, since he is the one who walked the golden path that Paul couldn't. In fact it would be an interesting twist to reveal this is all Leto II bringing his gaze backwards to ensure his own creation.
@@tgiacin435 Well, the Guild are also the true rulers of the Empire, they are far more political than initially let on. There is no interstellar travel without them, and thus no Empire without them. It was against this stranglehold on humanity's destiny that the Bene Gesserit waged their secret war, to create a super being to usurp the Navigators. Paul's final victory wasn't against the Emperor, it was against the Guild...holding the Navigators hostage by threatening to use the Water of Death to kill all the Worms and thus all Spice. Forcing them to disband the galactic fleet in orbit, trapping all the Great Houses to their home star systems, and shuttling Paul's Fremen to pick them off one by one. Paul's comprehension of Kralizec/Azrafel was incomplete initially, his Jihad across the galaxy was a prototype or watered down version of Leto II's journey/mutation/tyranny. I don't think the Bene Gesserit had any such inkling to this. At least not when their started their breeding program.
@ it wasn’t just the navigators. The imperium has millions of people addicted to spice. But that was a move mainly against the emperor. The guild try to remain neutral so long as nothing disrupts spice production. But Leto’s goal was mainly to kick start the scattering, and finally take humanity out of its stagnation in order to survive kralizec.
If he’s against the Bene Gesserit of course he’s a Bene Tleilaxu, as his eyes implied. Face dancer eyes. You should look up the story of Vorian Atreides and Xavier Harkonnnen, and what Abulurd does to earn his punishment. Corrino is the other branch of the Harkonnen line, they change their names at the Battle of Corrin.
Travis Fimmel Character Desmond Hart from watching first episode. Seem very similar to Caleb in the brilliant Raised by Wolves series, which unfortunately was cancelled after two seasons 😭
I hated how it was canned because of the merger. I hope in some way, they continue it because I was excited for what they were gonna do for season 3. You had Mother trapped, and Grandmother doing some messed up stuff to the colonists. Plus what kind of humans lived on this planet before Mother and Father arrived. Plus why did that fish creature take Tempest’s baby? And why did her baby have those mutations? So many questions
Would love if you did breakdowns by episode. They've already jam packed so much I love watching your breakdowns right after. Thanks for all your hard work. You're my favorite channel on youtube ❤
Please, please do keep reviewing each episode! - Yes, you're right about the Bene Gesserit driving force being control, so you could have mentioned the scene showing the young women in training, where the teacher (Tula?) is talking about control of body AND mind, which is (in the books, if not mentioned in the movies AFAIK) the _prana-bindu_ training, the ability not only to control the tiniest muscle movement, but also to read the muscle movement of others (and thence unmask Tleilaxu Face Dancers). Voice is an ability derived from _prana-bindu_ .
I think that Desmond Hart is clearly the precursor archetype of the Mentats. A less probable option would be a facedancer. The spice has been known to give the mentats extraordinary powers of calculation and to act as advisors to the Great Houses. When he holds his head I thought immediately - It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
If you are truly interested in the lore I would recommend the channel Quinn's Ideas for a more in depth and revealing analysis from a deeper perspective. The recent movies were well made, are good, though the third act in the second film fails terribly the characters of Chani and Jessica, there is so much more to the story than the style over substance of Deni Villeneuve's work.
This was fantastic! I've read a lot of the prequels, but not the one this show is based on, so I'm looking forward to getting surprised. I'm really glad they put some money into this, it has a lot of potential! Travis Fimmel was great, yes he's mirroring his character from Raised By Wolves (I miss that show) which itself mirrored his Ragnar from Vikings, both he and that show were amazing. All the cast seem to be first class actors, which is what this kind of production needs. Please review all the episodes, Charlie, Dune is more hard core sci-fi than most of what we get nowadays, but it (and Foundation) are some of the best sci fi ever written. They deserve live action high quality productions.
Literally obsessed with episode 1. Loved the vibe. I’ve read the first 4 dune books but not the one this is based on yet. Been debating between this & wool tbh. Anyway great first ep ❤
@emergencyawesome please do a video per episode, I rely on your commentary for better context! 🙌 Also, do you think that Travis' character could be a AI in disguise?
Could Desmond be a Face Dancer? That would explain the fact that he left the disk for the Emperor to see, Face Dancer always leave a way out for the victims.
Only someone with Herbert genes would name a main character Desmond after we were given "Duncan Idaho": my money's on him being a Brian Herbert prequel novel creation
This was a really fun episode to watch. I hope it becomes very successful and can be loved just as much as Game of Thrones so that we can get to see more of this show plus other shows and definitely movies about the wars against the machines.
I am not too familiar when the Bene Tleilax gained the ability to clone, but the first thought I had after we saw Desmond Hart dying was that he might be a Clone or Ghola.
Possibly a clone, if he was eaten by a worm, he’s not leaving a body. Though I do think he is a tleilaxu creation if he’s wanting to bring an end to the bene gesserit
@@EccleezyAvicii Really? According to the Wiki, the Bene Tleilax were formed After 1381 BG, so much earlier. (I only read Dune and Messiah so far, but this is what I could find online)
@@jaymr2795 [edited] in Herbert’s original novels, the timeline for when the Tlulaxa organize into the more spiritual/political movement of the Bene Tleilax is not clearly defined. We don’t see mention of Facedancers, Gholas, etc. until the time of Paul. It’s known from the non-Herbert books that the Thulaxa, the people from which the order would arise, were active early on as a culture obsessed with Genetic engineering and harbored fanatical spiritual beliefs. They got in trouble with the other houses for claiming to clone limbs and organs during the Butlerian Jihad, when later it was discovered these were taken from slaves. All that said, it does appear the direction this story is going to take. Since they would be a natural antagonist to the sisterhood considering they develop the axolotl tanks.
Just finished catching up watching all 4 episodes and this breakdown really did help me understand alot coming from someone who didnt read the books but watched the movies. Thank you for explaining! About to watch your other videos on the other episodes!
Great breakdown. Same for Part 2. Also, I would say, successful in terms of view count. Well deserved success. Keep 'em coming and I'll watch more installments.
A big part of what they are establishing with this first episode is that in the 10 000 years since the Butlerian Jihad, humanity has remained at a standstill. There has been zero progress in either life adaptation or technology in those 10 000 years, with the exception of the navigator's guild, and this only due to the effects of the spice melange gas.
I'd like to see an episode by episode breakdown. If I recall, the House Corrino and House Harkonnen come from the same family but the Corrinos changed their names to not be associated with Harkonnen. I would like to see a Butlerian Jihad series that shows what happened between Omnius, the Titans, and humanity. It would be a nice introduction into Atreides household and how they descend directly from the greatest Titan, Agamemnon.
Hey Charlie, please continue an episode by episode breakdown. The Dune lore/mythos is so deep that it would be so easy to get lost. Great breakdown, thanks.
I’m absolutely obsessed with Dune. I wasn’t too sure about this series & haven’t been able to watch much. Thank you SO MUCH for this incredible break down. I would have NEVER picked up on such subtle things…ie: the stars being Paul’s eyes. Even the more “common knowledge” stuff…your insight is just great. Please break down all the episodes. 💙✨
Please do reviews of each dune episode bc there is way too much that’s missed in each episode even after watching the episodes multiple times. Thank you for the in depth explanations. Keep every episode reviews coming! Candace
I also would like episode 2 breakdown, there was a few things I either missed or didn't fully grasp. And I think that will probably be the case for the future along with a lot of other people.
It will be nice if you are able to do an episodic breakdown every week but I know how much work that takes. Its been so long since I read the books, but they do seem to be adhering to the story, until we get to this random fellow Desmond in the mix. They picked a time period not specifically covered in the narrative in order to have the freedom to write the story like they wanted, but I do hope they stick to a story relevant faction for his origin. Face Dancer, Bene Tlelax, House (?) , or space guild none have been mentioned yet.

Mainly because of the scene where we see a greatworm consuming everything, wich is more in line with what Leto II eventually becomes
I agree mate
Absolutely is referencing Leto II
Literally obsessed with episode 1. Loved the vibe. I’ve read the first 4 dune books but not the one this is based on yet. Been debating between this & wool tbh. Anyway great first ep ❤
Amazing episode and video ! (Please do it for all episodes)
This was an awesome break down keep doing it if you can we love you respectfully
Please continue the Dune Prophecy breakdowns
Loved the video Charlie! Please do more......its so much better with your inside knowledge!!
Excellent breakdown! The first episode exceeded my expectations. Great visuals, awesome cast.
@emergencyawesome please do a video per episode, I rely on your commentary for better context! 🙌 Also, do you think that Travis' character could be a AI in disguise?
I was hoping you would do this series. So glad you did. Please do other episodes.Thank you.
Keep rocking the Dune breakdown please, Charlie! Many thanks for all your work - much appreciated!
Could Desmond be a Face Dancer? That would explain the fact that he left the disk for the Emperor to see, Face Dancer always leave a way out for the victims.
One detail I keep giggling over is Travis Fimmel (who is Australian) re-using his Vikings Ragnar Lothbrok accent.
Him saying "gods' gave me flashbacks to Vikings. Awesome dude.
Thanks for all your videos man. You must continue doing episode breakdowns!!!
Yes please do episode by episode breakdowns 🙏🏽
@ Yes that’s what I thought too
The Tleilaxu don’t exist till much later in the timeline.
Great breakdown Charlie
Thanks!
Thanks for the breakdown Charlie! Looking forward to future breakdowns for this series!
Glad you like them!
Do more! This Dune series is amazing
Hi.. please I'll lost where can I watch dune Parr one
So far the first episode was really good! So good seeing your review!
Hey Charlie, please continue an episode by episode breakdown. The Dune lore/mythos is so deep that it would be so easy to get lost. Great breakdown, thanks.
Bring on the Mentats, Guild, and Tleilaxu! Only 6 episodes worries me, unless they plan to release every year. Good so far!
No! Don't make us wait til the finale! More episode breakdowns, please!
Just happy our boy Travis F. is still alive and working 🐦⬛
great video charlie as always, interesting show the dune prequel showing how bene started control the event of the breeding program,
Amazing breakdown, please do more. It can be overwhelming going into this fresh but it’s fascinating all around! Appreciate the work put into this🙏🏻
Thanks!
The BEST part was your comparisons to LOTR & GOT. Felt like I just found my people. (Super new here). Thanks again. ✨
Please do reviews of each dune episode bc there is way too much that’s missed in each episode even after watching the episodes multiple times. Thank you for the in depth explanations.
Keep every episode reviews coming!
Candace
I love the Dune books.
Awesome!
Me too
So, is this show covered by Sisters or Mentats book?
Please do this on a weekly basis. For someone that just got into Dune I love your breakdown analysis. I just subscribed!
I also would like episode 2 breakdown, there was a few things I either missed or didn't fully grasp. And I think that will probably be the case for the future along with a lot of other people.
Ragnar in space!!! Yesssss
Seriously thank you for this!
No problem!
Thanks Charlie great update glad we are getting this story of how the proficiency got spread
Great breakdown, Charlie! Please keep them coming.
Desmon hart is definitely a ghoula using ixian technology!! 100% remember that
Absolutely loved your breakdown !!!!!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Damn good work, Charlie. Damn good work. Thank you.
Thanks!
Yes love your breakdowns I listen to them at work ! You make the shoes more enjoyable for whom haven’t read the books!
Thank you!
Amazing first episode… looking forward to seeing where it goes !!!
Amazing breakdown, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff Charlie. Always my goto for breakdowns and Easter eggs.
This show is very good. Thanks Charlie I love Dune
Nice!
Thanks for the recap, very helpful
I hope that you do every episode :)
Please keep em coming Charlie! Dune fans would deeply appreciate it!
Production value is at 💯. Costumes, cinematography, sets, perfect! Can't wait to watch this when work slows down.
Keep the breakdowns coming
