Andy, Dave & Kirk "A.D.K" set out to be just three guys with varying tastes in rock and metal that will give our honest opinions on tracks and try to discuss key points along the way.
About the New York and London accents in different parts of the song; Neneh Cherry’s is Swedish with a Sierra Leone born father, Ahmadu Jah, who came to Sweden to study engineering but instead became a musician. The famous jazzmusician Don Cherry is her stepfather, Eagle-eye Cherry is her brother and Mabel is her daughter. Lots of music in that family. Her sister Titiyo is also a singer. Anyway, she basically grew up in Sweden, but on and off they lived in New York, because of her stepfather. At 16 she moved to London on her own, pursuing a career in music. Having spent a lot of time in both New York and London she was familiar with both accents, and jumps a bit between them in this song for contrast.
Great song and great memories of the 80's. Bring them back! 😂🇺🇲
This is a certified tune! Definitely one of my 'guilty' pleasures.
This song samples Buffalo Gals by Malcolm McLaren hence the title
beautiful woman
A *juicy* MTV classic.
I love this song. I was 17 when it was released. Still sounds fresh. The outro is great: that repeat musical phrase. Enjoyed your vid.
Buffalo was an urban fashion movement / trend in the 1980s. Think Nick Kamen and his little brother, Barry. The Buffalo Stance is a pose, standing side on, arms crossed, with an expression of cool/attitude. Neneh pulls off the Buffalo Stance at 03:08 seconds. The song does have an empowerment edge to it, with the singer rejecting doing anything for money or meeting some pimp's expectations.
What's so 'guilty' about it? It's just a great 80s pop song.
Why a guilty pleasure? Isnt is simply a great song?
Don Cherry the jazz trumpet player is/was her stepfather. This song is considered hip hop. React to her songs Manchild, Hearts and Kisses On The Wind please.
Guilty pleasure is such a dumb expression. It's an 80s pop song, it's not Mein Kampf.
