Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry is still a banger to this day!!
I just asked alexa to play it … wow flash backs to my childhood here in NYC ♥️
agree 100%!
Halfway to house mix is killer!
Yes!!!
Facts
Neneh Cherry is a pure example of an INTERNATIONAL Star. Just because something doesn’t take flight here in America, does not mean it isn’t doing well elsewhere. We’ve been programmed to only pay attention to Billboard and how high a certain song or album charts. If it doesn’t reach the top 40 here, it isn’t considered a success. Again, that doesn’t mean the song or album isn’t doing well in places like: Jamaica, Sweden, Italy, Japan, etc. Plus, just because it charts high on Billboard, doesn’t mean it’s a good project. Billboard measures sales (or streams in modern times) it does not weigh critical acclaim. Therefore, Billboard measures commercial success.
Exactly
Good point, another example would be Wizkid, take away Essence, how many people know him outside his audience?
Look at David Hasselhoff. He went from owning a talking car and life guarding the beaches of southern California, to pop super sensation, equivalent to justin bieber, in Germany and other European countries in the 80s and 90s. Hes still idolized to this day.
@@ballerboy2381 That’s only in Germany. That’s a country not Europe
Right?! Not only about how you chart in the US
I respect the lane she carved out.... She was different.. She was beautiful.. She still is... Glad to see she's good
I feel the same.
She came back with a new album, "Broken Politics", and new single, "Kong", a few years ago...
@@NellieKAdaba and she was the pioneer of the punk /ska /metal style and type of music that inspired both black and white female artists to this day
I still listen to "Buffalo Stance" to this day.
Me 2
Its seven seconds 4 me
that still my jam
I've Got You Under My Skin is the song that I still listen, to. Serious subject, but I love the track.
That song and Buddy X. Neneh Cherry is awesome.
She has aged absolutely beautifully.......
FUN FACT: one of her daughters is a signed artist called Mabel and seems pretty successful in her own terms
All 3 of her daughters are very talented musicians and artists. Her daughter Tyson just dropped her debut album
No way. You're lying. She's really Cherry's daughter for real? Wow I didn't know that. I like Mabel's anxiety song "OK" I can see where she gets that talent from. Thanks for sharing.
@@judahandtheasantetribe4life I was just as surprised when I found out
Mabel looks so much like Neneh! Both gorgeus woman!
“No money man can win my love it’s sweetness that I’m thinking of” 🎶🎶 ❤️
If it wasn’t for MTV Classic 80’s videos I would never have known who she was! 😂 such a catchy song
Lol rite but I remember this video being played on MTV and BET back in the day I was like 5 yrs old smh
Yep. Definitely a childhood staple.
She was huge and I had a huge crush on her 😍
@@thetruesoulofanaquarius9302 o ok nice. I wasn’t born yet lol
@@TheRetroWoman80 lol MTV CLASSIC is the onlyyy reason I even heard of this song, wish I was born sooner
Also should note, her daughter Mabel is one of the biggest popstars in the U.K!
YESS MABEL!!!! My FAVE artist of the moment! She’s so underrated here in the US 🙄😒
Who?
oh wow I didnt know that !
@@sparkswolverine She literally told you. Go away and stop being annoying.
Mabel is her daughter?!?! omg yass Gawd!
Funny fact, Neneh was the only female artist Madonna ever said she found intimidating.
I find that hard to believe...lol
Madonna was known for saying silly things she didn't even believe.
@@tom11zz884 It was a Rolling Stone article. Around the Like a Prayer era. Neneh rapped & sang & M said she couldn’t compete with that. I’m a hardcore Madonna Stan so this is no shade towards her.
Madonna also imply this about Whitney Houston? Lol.
Well her non-singing ass should've found a lot more singers intimidating, because many female singers could sing circles around her
@@tshidi129 And she’s still the Queen of Pop today. I can see you feel some kinda way about that! Keep hating. That negative energy suits you!
7 seconds is still a song I still a jam. Thanks for giving me my daily dose of nostalgia.
Love Buffalo Stance, 7 Seconds, Love Can Build A Bridge, and When I Walk Into This Room.
@@NellieKAdaba damn you sound like my kinda girl.
Imagine losing to Mili Vanili!
Riiiggghhhtttt!!!! Smdh !
I love milli vanilla 😄❤
@@lisamaxie9909 Good for you babe .
She got second to no one
Seriously wtf
I think she is absolutely gorgeous
Because she's half white. BP think all mixed women are beautiful
@@vivalalirpa her being mixed has nothing to do with her being beautiful . Tf kind of comment Is that?
THANK'S SO MUCH FOR THIS!❤️🕑 STILL ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE MUSICIANS THAT WAS UNDERRATED FROM THE '80S.
Manchild is timeless.
I love that she was leftfield and of African descent in the 80s
Love the sounds she helped bring into existence eg Trip Hop
london is of course SUPER mixed it was completely normal
7 SECONDS is such a good song and was so underrated in the Western world. I'm really glad it was an international hit.
I still love that song.
@@ricardoanderson5005 Me to
@Devil Man So true.
My favorite
It was massive in the UK.
How Seven seconds could barely scratch the hot 100 is beyond me; say's more about the US just not recognising good music for what it is. That is my favourite Neneh song along with Manchild. Great artist.
Love that song, didn't know it was her though. With the Arabic fellow I think
It's an incredible song! It brings me to tears without fail! Dido did a great job of it for Live Aid too 😊
@@mCblue79 you ll find he is from Senegal and famous since 1990 all over Europe and Africa
Practically the whole planet was slowdancing to the magnificent seven seconds while in the states everyone went crazy with the horrid macarena
@@reneperez2126 Ah the stupid Macarena. 7 Seconds is amazing.
Definitely a talented artist who deserved more recognition.
I agree.
She reminds me of Kelis. They have that vibe were they’re true to craft and crates unique music.
Defiantly
I hadn’t thought of that but yes, so true!! ❤️
Well Kelis was probably influenced by her as she came before!
Latrese Cherry: True, but Kelis is more "R&B" than Neneh Cherry. Kelis' R&B hasn't been properly promoted...
Absolutely!!!
I love Neneh Cherry!!! I still listen to 'Buffalo Stance', 'Kisses On The Wind', 'Buddy X', '7 Seconds', and 'Manchild'!!!!!!
I still have the cassette singles of “Buffalo Stance” and “Kisses On The Wind”. Such a unique person and artist. Always enjoy her efforts. 💖🙏
I still have the 45
@@dreameryoung38 OMG!!! Really??? Wow. I wished I had that. I’m a vinyl junkie. And that would have been an awesome part of my collection. So cool! 😎
i loved her videos....how it looked like she was going by all of london and cambridge
@@Chuck_EL Yes indeed. Very colorful and artsy. A visual masterpiece.
She was my girl crush 😍 she's a beautiful lady and I respect what she stands for. We need more people like her in this world.
I was such a massive Neneh Cherry fan back in the day! I loved the fact that she didn't fit into a box because that's where I was at during that time. Loved this!
Shame really, I thought she was relatable to all races as a pop artist. Too bad the brass back then tried to pigeonhole her.
@@ronj9933 - It was the radio formats and the audiences, too. Music isn't nearly as segregated today (by race or genre), and there isn't as much reliance on radio play.
@@loki2240 lol now seems way more segregated or homogenised
My mum liked her music.her daughter is Mabel a UK singer. Love Mabel’s voice
I love Neneh since the late 80s-early 90s, and also Mabel. A few years ago, I didn't now that Mabel was her daughter.
True. They really should have mentioned that. And I think that most of under 25 year olds only know of her, bc she's Mabel's mom and only clicked on this video, when they saw it in their suggestions bc of that fact.
Is Mabel popular over there?
Basically, she took a break to bring up her family in England and now this talented artist has picked up her career and is doing what she wants. The debauched lives of celebrities never cease to shock.
When I was doing a lot of traveling in Europe I heard Seven Seconds and fell in love with it II bought the single and took it back to the states One of the best songs I had ever heard to this day Plus she is beautiful
She is still a breath of fresh air as an artist.
7 seconds is such a beautiful song
I hope you do a story on Eagle-Eye Cherry soon!!
Yesss
Yes. And also to her duet partner Youssou N'Dour, if it's spelled correctly.
I love, "Buffalo Stance!" They should give that 1990 Best New Artist Grammy to Neneh Cherry!
Yes
Ironic how after Milli Vanilli won it, they had to return it. In a nutshell, she was robbed of it!
Maybe bc the people who actually sang on their recordings now have it, I don't know.
Buffalo Stance still slaps 30+ years later!! 🎶 🔥🔥
She would unfortunately lose to Milli Vinilli 🤣 Buffalo Stance was definitely a bop and she was/is so pretty ❤🔥
The industry really get on my nerves when it come to women being pregnant
Aggravating ASF! Like it's a crime to be pregnant and successful. 🙄
@@danavixen6274 Right
@@NellieKAdaba 👍🏾😁
Seems that she should have won by default, imo after the milli vanilli fiasco
@@QueenBthatsMe777 Strongly agree!
can you do one on loose ends?
Loose Ends.......it should be capitalized. No caps means just that, loose ends.
I love Loose Ends and still listen to them. I wore out my sister's Zagora cassette tape, my junior year of high school. Wish I could have caught them in concert.
Loose ends wicked.
Neneh continues to be one of my nostalgic faves! Coming of age as a quirky young Blk girl watching MTV and other music video shows, she and her music were refreshing to me.
She represents the essence of a fullfilled artists life in balance with family and privacy. No stories of getting lost in drugs or sex or whatever insane attributes we often see tied to a popular musical career. That brings out an inspiring maturity which meets my heart since she hit the stage till today. Adorable.
YESSS! Thank you for doing a feature on Neneh! 'Raw Like Sushi' is timeless! "Manchild," "Love Ghetto," "Phoney Ladies" and "Outré Risqué Locomotive" were my jams 🔥🔥🔥
"Kong" and "Natural Skin Deep" from 'Broken Politics' are my faves
The video for Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry was on heavy rotation on MTV!!
Her song with Youssou N Dour will forever be iconic, and her brother Eagle Eye was a good ass singer too
I remember her making me conscious of Lyme disease back when she was diagnosed in the early 90s.
Gosh, I LOVE this channel! Always great artists featured. Thank you.
Where is a picture of her mother?
Another great video from you Keep them coming
Can you do a piece on KLF? Does anyone remember KLF Is Gonna Rock You!?!?!
Ancients of Mu Mu!
Yes I remember KLF. Did they do a song called 3am Eternal or something like that?
@@brandyburke5325 Yes, that was the song with the lyric "KLF is gonna rock you!"
@@brandyburke5325 Fall 1990, my first year in college. That was a HUGE one hit wonder in the USA, then they disappeared!?!
@Nolie Told ha ha, I wish!! In the early 1990s ('89-93) Black British Pop was so massive in the USA.
"Kisses on the Wind" was by far my favorite song of hers. I still have the cassette single.
Eeew going to look that up ,never knew she had any other song
Yes my favoriete too along with buffalo stance ❤
She is awesome! I enjoy her music especially her song Buddy X! I still remember seeing her on the Arsenio Hall show.
I would love to see stories on Rappin' 4-Tay, Ras Kass, Keith Murray, Sylk Smoov, Tuff Crew, Kool Keith, Above the Law, Richie Rich, Rottin' Razkals, Da Youngstas, etc.!!
Yeah, Ras Kass was my dude. ATL, and Keith Murray would be good stories too
No dysfunctional rap music pls.

Fun fact, her youngest daughter is a popular singer by the name of “Mabel” here in London xx
I wonder if the Recording Academy ever gave that "Best New Artist" Grammy to someone else since Milli Vanilli had there's revoked. I remember they had theirs revoked but, never thought about what happened to that award until now.
I wasn't a fan of her music, But, I like that she followed her heart and that she doesn't have a tragic ending.
I remember Buffalo stance as a kid l loved that song. Wish her nothing but the best
The remix of her song buddy was the very first time i heard biggie smalls and didn't even realize it. Great song!
The Buffalo Stance video is 33 years old and this is the 1st time I've noticed her background dancers dancing like Elaine from Seinfeld, but on cocaine.
Very good biopic. I am Neneh's age. Never knew she had such an interesting childhood.
Thank you for this video! Just wanted to add that singer/songwriter Marlon Roudette is Neneh Cherry’s step son. He was in a group called Mattafix and then went solo releasing two albums. He co-wrote his sister’s Mabel UK hit “Finders Keepers,” as well as Ne-Yo’s latest single “What If.” 🙂
He also appears on Neneh’s video for “Manchild.” I forgot to mention that, haha.
Yes! I was going to mention Marlon but thought to first see if anyone else did ☺️
I liked her. I believe she remade I got you under my skin but about the AIDS crisis. It was a beautiful video.
Still absolutely beautiful ❤️
She is keeping up the good work! Buffalo Stance is still a classic hits to hear!!!
Never clicked so fast on a video.
Her sister Titiyo had a great record called “after the rain”. I still have it.
Titiyo is Neneh's half-sister, actually.
@@andrewbloom7637 yeah and?
They got a category for her it’s called “pop music” …all Categories exist and the pop charts are from Rap to metal to country.
Its debated that pop isnt technically a genre since its actually short for popular thus why the pop charts have such diversity in sound themes and influence
Wow , how could I have forgot about her ????
OMG "7 seconds" is my jaaaaam!🙌🏿
No mention of her cooking show, or the song she did with Cher, Eric Clapton, and Chrissie Hyde.
i'm surprised you didn't talk about her blowing up Lenny Kravitz's touring shenanigans that lead to his divorce from Lisa Bonet.
Yeah, he's the reason she wrote Buddy X.
I was never that into her music first time around but I've learned to appreciate it in hindsight.
i still bop to buffalo stance, neneh style of singing and rapping was ahead of her time,
honestly that’s why record labels and the music industry had a hard time marketing her art, they should have just put the music out on all genres: rap, r & b, alternative, indie,
and just let good music be good music,
anyway she still made her mark salute to
you ms. Neneh Cherry
Love these videos so much!!
She was truly overlooked, i would love to hear some music from her now, so talented
so many female aritsts especially in metal, hip hop and alternative were inspired by her outfits, style and music
I really liked her song "Buffalo Stance" definitely her biggest hit. I have her song on my favorite lists on utube
I remember reading that Jimi Hendrix' music was also considered "not black enough" at his time; I believe the same happened to Miles at some time
I still have her cassette
Love Nenah Cherry 7 seconds away!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🤎👍🏽
Was something as natural as pregnancy still viewed negatively? Why must it be hidden or done in secret to this day?
She has always been 1 of my favorite artists . Homebrew is amazing !!!
She also did in the UK a few episodes of cooking African/Caribbean food with her good friend that were simply fantastic and funny!.
Thank you for a wonderful little bit of history and trajectory of Neneh..I truly enjoyed it,
Thank you for this awesome can you do Soul II Soul?
Tina Turner spoke about how record companies in the US wanted her to sing only R&B songs. But Tina wanted to sing rock and pop songs. So glad both ladies followed their own path.🧡🧡
Very informative video on Neneh.
Love the background track by
Donald XL...beautiful
She had just done a song with the Avalanches entitled Wherever You Go last year. Definitely an anthem for the year of 2020. Neneh is an unsung talent. I love Lenny Kravitz, but Buddy X is a banger. ♥️
I fucken loved Neneh from Buffalo Stance but to hear she did work to support the Black Trans movement I live for her 🖤
Color and race were spoke of when the l000 reign were given.it was spoken after adam and eve were kicked out the garden of love for human kind. Satan joy and pain.
Buffalo stance, is still rocking on my playlist on a daily!! On a different note, can you do Blackstreet, i always wondered what happened to them.
Buddy X is still my jam! ♥️ (I heard it was about Lenny Kravitz.) My favorite video is I've Got You Under My Skin. ♥️
What a fantastic artist and great human being! I always loved her as a child!
Before Kelis, there was Neneh Cherry
Loved seven seconds Away.. that part that Yousou sings is incredible.
I remember her well, I was stationed in Aschaffenberg Germany at the time. Afro centric / euro soul was big then. I was in love with her.
Honestly she didn’t make it big in the States because she got pregnant during her “Buffalo Stance” promo. She was pregnant in the video. Back then if you got pregnant at the peak of your career it was suicide. Lauryn had the same fate. It’s was very frowned upon. Unlike now where Cardi B & Summer Walker were actually able to thrive during their pregnancies and album promos. Maybe if times were different then we would of gotten more music from here.
Thanks for sharing😊
You’re videos are awesome. New subscriber and happy to find you!
If you love all types of music you'll love her music.
Apart from music she also did a cookery series on the BBC, neneh and andi cooking together, it was a good series, shame there wasn't a book to accompany it but never mind.
I'm also mixed raced woman 19.God she was so beautiful 😍❤️
I never knew she did so much. I grew up in Brooklyn. We were all about hip hop, r&b, reggae/dancehall. I was a teen when buffalo stance hit the airwaves and we made jokes about it. Our community wasn’t really feeling her like that but to each his own. Good story.
Thank u for this video I am such a fan of Neneh's music
Buddy X is still my jam. Crazy how much she looks like her step father.
I absolutely still love this song. It takes me back to my late teen yrs when life was good. Na I mean huh
Woman saw her having a top 10 single again in the UK top 100. Beautiful song. You gotta listen to the wonderful Feel It from the same Man album.
I never had any problems with what she done through life but at the end I find it hard to reconsile her "No investments into a black family life" with promoting black Trans.
Lol I like how you pronounce her name. We pronounce is as “knee’ Nah”
I remenber her, she was cool
