Are bands missing a trick by not going after mass merchandise sales
Been to 17 maiden shows. The best live vocal performance at a Maiden show was Blaze. This was in a theater in Denver so it was a small show and turned down volume and all. Blaze owned Hallowed be thy Name and when it came to the oncore . people were yelling Blaze Blaze Not Maiden maiden they came back out and played blood on the worlds hands for the finale it was an epic vocal performance that even Bruce and paul would have loved. I was blown away never thinking he was that good but he was the main man that night. and everyone afterwards outside were in shock.. saying the albums did not do him justice.
This was an enjoyable thing to watch. The good expression of thoughtful opinions is always interesting and usually enlightening as well. None of the three of you are elitists or gatekeepers. I may have my own quibbles with some small things by either Andy or Kirk on occasion, but they are insignificant, and they do not include either of those criticisms. (In fact I remember one occasion where Kirk corrected himself about a comment he made within about one minute, which was cool of him (he said he thought Sara Menoudakis was "using her head voice too much" in a song, but then realized that was inaccurate, and he corrected himself.) Occasionally Andy's immediate reaction to something that is not what he expects or is used to is negative, but he usually corrects himself after he has time to digest the new idea. You, Dave, are almost always spot on. A good example of you being open minded is the way you adjusted your opinion of Ningen Isu after you got used to where they are coming from, which was very cool and self aware of you. You also have excellent radar for picking up on things like the great song writing of Quarter After Three's Andrea Menoudakis, or the current outside pollution going on with the Warning's writing being outsourced. So overall, I think the three of you do a fantastic job!
Chin up Dave, such is life, at least you're trying...
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
The first time I listened to Neuronal Fire, I sobbed. It's such an emotional song. Not Nothing & Wayward Eyes are both spectacular as well. Then A Bleaker Sun is a mind blistering track. There's so many fantastic moments on this album, I love it as much, or more, than Moment (which I actually loved).
Blaze is a great singer, he just wasn't the right singer for Maiden. That's on Steve. It all worked out in the end though.
Can't wait!!!
Youre missing the point entirely bands should at least be paid petrol money Book a headliner that will have a pull with a guarantee of money, then pay the supports fairly regardless. My band would only ever take an unpaid show if its for charity
@@danoliphant6574 not missing the point. I do understand. So for a small venue if you book a headliner that will fill the place and is willing to play the small venue, their feet is going to be most of the money you earn off the door once you take out the expenses so again your unable to pay bands elsewhere on the bill. We are also in bands ourselves so do get the other side of the conversation. Problem is bands are saturating the scenes with not many people attending local shows due to cost of living so they are selective on when to attend a gig. It's also very hard for bands to gain a loyal following as there is so many bands and so many channels to try and cover when promoting. This is why we started doing shows
I was drummer in a few bands between 2005-14 & earnt bout £30 in 9 years - £10 for 1 gig, and £20 for another. i put on 2 gigs 10 yers ago; for one of them, I paid each of the 4 solo acts £40 each. I'm just starting* (again) as a live promoter. I'm trying to stick to the 'if you can't afford to pay them ANYthing, you shouldn't be doing it' rule. My first* event is for charity, at a 70 cap venue. The venue is letting us use it for free as it's for charity - all ticket money > charity. I'm going to give the performers - 5 acts; 3 solo, a duo & a 4 piece - perhaps £30-50 each - out of my own pocket.
Have disagree with the logic. If your paying out of your pocket and losing money every show then you wont do it for long and its not sustainable. The best thing to do is a symbiotic relationship with the bands so that they share the show to ensure their fans are aware whilst the promoter makes sure that people local to the venue know about the bands that are playing. If noone comes to the gigs then the promoter loses money and the bands dont get money either however if the venue has a good crowd then the bands get paid, simple logic, if noone wants to see the original band why pay those bands, they have to build a following through non gigging means so that when they do have a show there is a demand for them. Then they can get paid for doing those shows. People wont book them if noone comes to watch them
@@adkrockandmetal obviously, you wouldn't book only the exact same (5) bands for the same venue every week / month ...
Blaze voice sucks.
First time watching the channel. At 15:07 Geoff Tate was mentioned as a contender vocalist, I will have to give a hard NO on that choice. Though Tate certainly has the range the sound would be too awkward. I also don't know if personalities would clash, no shade towards anyone but still just sayin'.
Really good interview guys
Despite what digby pearson of earache claimed on his blog there is actually 1 degree of seperation between billy corgan and morbid angel. He played in a band when he lived in florida with a guy called Ron who is a david vincent collaborator (played with dave in a few industrial projects etc).
"Man on the edge" has been in the set since Bruce rejoined for a long time, according to a interview with classic rock Bruce gave years ago its one of the two blaze era songs(and the clansman) he'd love to have a go at re recording.
Blaze is amazing. Saw him last year and he's excellent. His maiden albums are so underrated
I wonder if they sold that bass?
Pitchshifter was the shit!
this is sooooo great and from 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮 beautiful song❤❤
Everything is a matter of opinion in what you think and like. Personally I do not like the punky sound of DiAnno, to me born in 75, Bruce is Maiden. Blaze is nr 2, he is a damn good singer bug no Bruce. But X-factor is damn good record, love dark theme from Steve due to his seperstion from his wife.
I was introduced to them by seeing them live. All For Metal is summarised in one word: "FUN". It was one of the most enjoyable gigs I've ever been to. And there is room in metal for fun.
"Metal Metal Land" by GWAR. Most metal song ever!
Bruce definitely did a version of this live
Maiden is over since quite a while.
I absolutely adore this live version of Burn, it sounds way better than it did on The Crow soundtrack (and that was great) IMHO. Powerful performance.
I liked them both but then trivium did a song about Matthew Shepherd and that was what made me like them over Bullet
The more I listen to you guys the more I think your jealous, why you comparing him to someone else.
I disagree with you guy this kid is incredible.
Couldn't agree more about Blaze. I thought he did a great job, but listening to the album, I just kept thinking how it would sound with Bruce.
This is the only song that I like from the album. Blaze sounds ok, but as a big Maiden fan this was a big let down to me. Blaze does not belong in Iron Maiden.
Sucks that they let his out of tune singing make it to the album. Otherwise, he had a good sound that worked with the band overall.
Thank you for the review and your kind words!
Glad you like it guys! I agree about the live sound to be honest, I think there are some areas for improvement for the band in that sense, it's very tricky to get a good sound when you're tuned that low.
There are only 2 songs from the entire Blackbriar catalog I never liked. This is one of them lol.
Merda 💩 👎 💩 👎
The X-Factor was the first album I heard by Maiden. I was 13 at the town gym with the big guys showing me the ropes and blasting Iron Maiden. I was too shy to ask what the music was, but a few weeks after that happened, I went into a CD store and immediately, like guided by Eddie himself, walked to the disgusting cover, grabbed the album, and asked the store clerk to let me listen to it. He smiled, knowing what was about to happen, and I immediately recognized it from the gym. I bought the album immediately, and over the next few months, I spent all of my allowance and earned money to buy all of their albums. I've seen them live 7 times now and can't wait to see them again in November.
Me too. November 2nd and 9th. UP THE IRONS.
Wow! Thank you for this reaction to our ancient, low-budget video! 😁 There was no green screen, we just had zero professional gear, so we got what we got. We likely agree with pretty much everything you said 🤭, especially the poorly crafted name (we tried to fix it by changing it to Tales of Dark... +name of album, but let's be honest - the name was BAD), and we're glad you enjoyed at least some bits of it. Cheers!
Eles têm potencial para tomar a frente
No emotional connection? That’s a you problem.
It is indeed. Songs I connect to emotionally others won't it's all personal connections hence why Kirk does connect with the band but I cannot seem to.
A Good listen this, Simon the Singer really helped us out with artwork n other stuff back in the early 1990's ..he also did backing vocals on our 2nd demo.
Brave New World and A Matter of Life and Death are great albums - definitely the two NOT to avoid from the latter period!
It's a Murray/Harris song - you're right Harris rights a lot about films, but musically it has Murray all over it
Awesome Tune !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Harris does not hate Bring Your Daughter - he coerced Bruce into using it for Maiden, as it was originally only going to be a solo song! Steve loved the song
The song was used as soundtrack in a Freddy Krueger movie and then released on the 2006 re release of tattooed millionaire
It is a pity that they kicked him out. It took time to integrate and to all of them to get used to each other and their capabilities, but his peculiar voice was a fit and sufficiently different from that of Bruce to give a twist to the band on a new track. In a short time also sound engineering would have changed, replacing good M. Birch with shitty K. Shirley, and also covers were not made by D. Riggs anymore. So it was greatly evident that Maiden needed and were already on a different track. Blaze is a great song-writer and knows well what metal is - his current solo albums are all way better and tougher than any Maiden product since Brave new World. From the return of Bruce, it has been a long spiraling down into a prog-rock nonsense, with unsingable and unappealing lyrics, IMO. Huge stages and lives keeps them alive, not the new music they do.
Check out Lord of the files 😊
You know Harris said if I ever would have to replace Dickinson it would be for him
Really interesting and informative interview
This guy with glasses was so pathetic that I don't know, should I cry or laugh, but hey, we all have opinions each of us and sometimes they are as important and rare as A-holes...
It's good to have different opinions, it makes it so much fun to see the arguments... Sorry I meant discussions
@@DaveDoesmoviesandmusic It makes life a much more colorful for sure, butter better... I don't see that coming ever in some cases...
@@MarkoMakela-kk7qfsometimes everyone has the same opinion and sometimes people take it personally and sometimes people are having a bad day. Watch the videos where the guys are all together rather than on zoom it's much better
@@DaveDoesmoviesandmusic Well we all have explanations to how we act personally and why others act like they do, but in most of the cases people don't even understand themselves.
Songs that Bruce sing are written for Bruce and those that Blaze sing are written for Blaze and not vice versa.
