Respectfully, that song stinks :). I get it, you guys like sad songs, but the song is nothing special. "Youth gone wild" and "Slave to the grind" are great.
I was at a rock festival in Sweden in 2005 where Sebastian played. The concert was awesome (I am/was a long time fan of Skid Row). Afterwards he held a meet and greet and my brother and I were first in line. He asked my name and I said Rikke and then he immediately sang the first verse of 18 and Life for me - switching "boy" with "girl". I was speechless. He was so sweet, kind and humble to talk to and I will never ever forget it.
Sebastian Bach is, in my humble opinion, one of the most underrated rock vocalists of all time. I hardly ever hear him mentioned when people mention the greatest vocalists or greatest frontmen.
Agreed. I think part of the problem is Skiw Row just gets lumped into that generic last wave of hair metal trying to hang on while grunge was taking over the world. A lot of those bands don't really get judged on their own merit but as weird products of their time. Sebastian Bach definitely stands out as one of the greater talents from that scene.
Scotti Hill is even underappreciated by the cameras. They concentrated so much on Dave Sabo because of looks that they barely even show that Scotti played this solo. Killer guitarist that usually played the slower melodic solos like this, Wasted Time and so forth.
@@ericm4426 They had different roles. Dave is more Staccato and Scotti Legato. Matter of taste, though Scotti is for me also "better". I think the skill level was about as even as a guitar team ever was or could be.

Please do Skid Row “Wasted Time” next. Baz is probably one of the best singers at “coloring” his vocal lines, meaning, he uses every technique he has, to paint almost every single word with the emotion he needs to convey the meaning of what he’s singing.
These are some of the most genuine reactions to great songs I've seen anywhere online. I love watching these videos. Elizabeth, the nuanced metaphors and phrases you use perfectly describe the changes in tone and pitch, and how the singer achieves them. Like, the cupcake sprinkles metaphor - it's so silly, but it explains it PERFECTLY! Keep 'em coming! :D
Youth Gone Wild & Slave to the Grind were the two other singles that got me into Skid Row along with 18 & Life, so there is always a soft spot for me there! Seeing him perform at a small club a couple years ago he still sounds killer live.
Watching you listening to some of my favorite music for the first time makes me relive listening to it for the first time again. I can’t thank you enough for that.
Impatiently waited all week for this one since your heads up comment & it didn't disappoint 😁Thanks for doing more Skid Row, please please please make Wasted Time the next song by them 🙏 as for your comments about his future, while I personally consider him one of the greatest singers I've ever heard, age wasn't kind to his voice & his career became more obsession with what he lost when kicked out of Skid Row, but fortunately we got 2 great albums & plenty more music videos to review of them 🤣(in no particular order) Monkey Business, Quicksand Jesus, Slave to the Grind, Youth Gone Wild 🤟
So glad to see so many other people giving love to Quicksand Jesus. I think Wasted Time is probably the best marriage of songwriting to vocal performance, but just isolating Bach's performance alone, Quicksand Jesus might honestly be the better example. It's really damn close. I need to listen to that album again, like right now. :)
I knew you'd love this. His voice here is probably one of the most incredible I've ever heard. The range on this guy...! "Youth Gone Wild" is also incredible.
I waited so long to hear you review 18 and Life and I was not disappointed. I think Wasted Time should be your next listen. Everything about 18 and Life is turned up one more notch in Wasted Time. It has everything.
@@DrRyan81 I'm clearly hearing different things than you, because I haven't heard anything decent live for the last decade, and many of his contemporaries sound excellent
Sebastian’s voice is my all time favorite to listen to. There’s so much emotion, character and range. Every time you listen to a song, even after 30 years, you can hear something new and amazing. He is one of the most gifted singers of all time.
Hi, crime author here. First off; thanks for being you. I've recently learned that I can sing (my SO introduced me to where my voice is, she had some choir training), and I've been following your channel and learning a lot. Keep doing your thing! Anyhow, your comment about "why do guys keep guns in their pants??" I can (sorta) explain that. That style of carry is called "Appendix carry" or "Mexican carry". Yes, it's associated with criminals and yes, it's as dangerous a way of carrying a gun as you'd imagine for all the reasons you can think of. And yes, plenty of criminals are admitted to hospitals across the country from self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the...groin area. Why people do it; mostly its so they can throw guns away if police are chasing them and have no connection to said gun - after all, if the cops don't actually catch you with the gun it isn't your gun. Also, it apparently feels "manly" and "badass" to have a gun shoved down your pants. I don't get that part any more than you do, but apparently it takes all kinds.
Incredible, incredible vocal performance aside… over time I had forgotten what a simply well written and produced song this is. From the transitional bit between the first chorus and second verse, to the transition from the second chorus into the bridge (love how featured that bass fill is!)… Speaking of that bridge… what a bridge! Those unison single-note guitar lines build such tension, releasing into the vocal climax of the song, and a great, melodic guitar solo to follow. And Bach’s (fantastic) vocal gymnastics in the outro are underpinned by a fairly significant dynamic shift in the music… the acoustic guitars sneak back in under the electrics, and that beautiful counter-melody by the lead guitar, culminating in that brief outro solo. What a tune! One of the first I learned (poorly!) when I first started playing.
Wasted Time, Quicksand Jesus and In a Darkened Room. All amazing! I was 17 when this song came out and I was blown away by this beautiful man with this mesmerizing voice. I still listen to Sebastian. The album he just put out is great.
Absolutely correct in saying Sebastian has navigated a long and broad career with stratospheric highs and doldrums of the rigors of his profession. He’s a very intense personality and is a true blue rock and roll hero, but his own worst enemy at times
@@jeremiahrose4681 Actually, you can't trust mobile phone sound. I've recorded gigs on my phone that sounded great live, sounded great on soundboard and yet sounded horrible on the video I recorded. Phones have specific types of mics that emphasize certain sounds and cannot capture dynamic range.

Seeing your review 2 days after it aired, most comments have already mentioned the best songs by Bach for range and talent. The one that stuck with me for dramatics and instant change, is Monkey business. I believe their 3rd album. Skid Row were typically the loud, hard and heavy music you listened to when you wanted to blow off steam, but the ones mentioned in most of the comments showcase his talent and abilities. Great review!
I like your description of how to breath when singing. When I was learning to play the trumpet, one of the things our teacher was very adamant about was breathing. Being able to open your throat and taking in as much air as possible. He taught us techniques for breathing. it helped a lot in being able to sustain a note or bar.
Following this up with Warrant's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" would be awesome. Though I usually prefer live videos, I'd strongly suggest the official video - the imagery helps to tell the story and define the emotions in the song.
I saw Sebastian Bach as the lead in the Broadway play Jekyll and Hyde here in New York City in the early 2000's. And he KILLED IT! He was so good in it
Girl, I love what you do. I usually think you rush some anlysis videos, but you could have spent more time on this one. Don't ever stop doing what you are doing!
THANK YOU! Not that I Remember You is a bad song in any shape or form, but doing a "first time hearing Skid Row" and NOT doing 18 And Life is CRIMINAL! So thank you for making up for it! 😂😂
Skid row was my first live concert i went with a few friends and was just blown away. Sadly one of my closest friends who was with us died in an accident at his grandmothers two days after the concert. Every time i hear Skid Row i think of him. 13 years old is far to young to lose your life. R.I.P. Travis wherever you are.
So sorry for your loss, I lost my best friend Logan to cancer @ 27. Thankfully, we still have the songs that help keep those memories alive and soothe our soul. Peace.

You should totally interview Sebastian Bach. I’m sure he’d be up for it (I mean don’t want to speak for him, but he’s a cool guy). I’ve seen podcasts with Dave “snake” from Skid row. It was great.
I was a teenager when this song was new. The first time I heard it, it was a great rock song. The second time, I heard the words. If a song made me cry before that, I don't remember it.
My first thought for so many of your choices is hoping that the artists themselves are able to take in your analysis of their performances. I think most would be honored and really enjoy the detail and enthusiastic respect.

Wasted Time should really be the next one, the lyrics are very good, his vocals are fantastic & so is the emotion he sings it with. Here's some more as well In A Darkend Room, Quicksand Jesus, Monkey Business
I’ve been singing since high school, and I have a very good voice, but SB is one of a kind. The range, the control, and the way he phrases with his grittiness is so amazing. My talents could never come close.
This Skid Row era of Sebastian Bach was definitely amazing to experience. I check out his newer stuff from time to time because he's still a great singer, even though it's not the same level.
Sebastian Bach was called the "pretty boy with the golden voice". I never really liked hair bands or metal very much but I really liked a lot of Skid Row because of Sebastian Bach's voice. He said in an interview that his vocal style is an old Italian style called bel canto and it was taught to him by a man named Don Lawrence.
Quicksand Jesus!!! Sebastian NAILS the entire song and then keeps giving more and more as the song is fading out!! Would LOVE to see your reaction to it!
I was fortunate enough to see him sing this live in 1991 when they supported GnR and he was even more impressive live. The fact he was really just a kid when he sang this is incredible.

Elizabeth, the nuanced metaphors and phrases you use perfectly describe the changes in tone and pitch, and how the singer achieves them. Like, the cupcake sprinkles metaphor - it's so silly, but it explains it PERFECTLY! Keep 'em coming! :D
Love love! So glad you did this song. Easily my favorite SR song. Still gives me goosebumps 35 years later. Love the videos. Keep them coming!
When I first heard this, it blew me away. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, the storytelling, it’s a perfect song. What a voice!
Wasted time and in a darkened room are both stunning. Skid row has always been a favorite of mine. My daughter absolutely LOVES their 2nd album.
His voice is amazing and I’m so glad you covered it ❤❤❤
Another vote for Wasted Time from me, also check out In a Darkened Room
Impatiently waited all week for this one since your heads up comment & it didn't disappoint 😁Thanks for doing more Skid Row, please please please make Wasted Time the next song by them 🙏
as for your comments about his future, while I personally consider him one of the greatest singers I've ever heard, age wasn't kind to his voice & his career became more obsession with what he lost when kicked out of Skid Row, but fortunately we got 2 great albums & plenty more music videos to review of them 🤣(in no particular order) Monkey Business, Quicksand Jesus, Slave to the Grind, Youth Gone Wild 🤟
Quicksand Jesus or Wasted Time, honestly it's amazing how much they improved from their 1st album to their 2nd album. Most bands don't do that.
I agree with both of these. Wasted Time is the one most people thing if for the big notes, but I think Quicksand Jesus is more interesting vocally
Agreed, and it's sad that he normally doesn't fit these into his live shows anymore. Limited time, etc. I get it, but every so often would be great!
Quicksand Jesus may be one of their best songs
So glad to see so many other people giving love to Quicksand Jesus. I think Wasted Time is probably the best marriage of songwriting to vocal performance, but just isolating Bach's performance alone, Quicksand Jesus might honestly be the better example. It's really damn close.
I need to listen to that album again, like right now. :)
For sure the second album is a masterpiece.
I've seen your last 2 reactions. They were great as usual. "Wasted time" would hit the trifecta.
FOR SURE
Sebastian Bach was untouchable in his youth! He still sounds great at 56 and will always be THE voice of Skid Row, imho.
Sounds good with a studio behind him, hasn't been good live for years
@@thrashandanarchyhe had lots of great live performances
Isn't Lzzy Hale the latest artist to try?
@@DrRyan81 I'm clearly hearing different things than you, because I haven't heard anything decent live for the last decade, and many of his contemporaries sound excellent
@@thrashandanarchy listen to his lives in 2011 then or Sweden rock 2012
One of the greatest hard rock songs ever written in imo. What a singer and what a band!
I liked skid row and Bach's voice before but now I have a next-level appreciation for him and his talent.
Sebastian’s voice is my all time favorite to listen to. There’s so much emotion, character and range. Every time you listen to a song, even after 30 years, you can hear something new and amazing. He is one of the most gifted singers of all time.
22:10 "He's alien" LOOOOL
he is!! 👽
Thats my favorite part till the end vibrato... you can feel the anguish and emotion on bachs high notes.. my eyes teared up
Hi, crime author here.
His brand new song "Hold On (To The Dream) is phenomenal. Really worth a listen to see how great his voice still is.
I've heard some live stuff, and he did not sound great, they can do a lot with autotune today. I don't trust it.
Never been big on Skid Row, but MAN that guy has some pipes. "18 And Life" is an excellent song.
So...What are you big on?
@@johnnyandersson5622 From that era-ish... Sabbath with Dio, Maiden, Priest, OG Metallica, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, etc. Also Enya.
"Sebastian Bach is a satisfying cupcake with sprinkles" - Elizabeth Zharoff-07/13/24
Truly one of the greatest voices to grace this planet. For more Skid Row, "Wasted Time" is one of their very best, or "In A Darkened Room"
Following this up with Warrant's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" would be awesome. Though I usually prefer live videos, I'd strongly suggest the official video - the imagery helps to tell the story and define the emotions in the song.
Or blind faith
Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a great song, regardless of genre. I Saw Red as well. Unusual phrasing and a great melody. Jani Lane was a talented writer.
Agreeeeeeed. One of my karaoke jams. Warrant was so much more than cherry pie.
I saw Sebastian Bach as the lead in the Broadway play Jekyll and Hyde here in New York City in the early 2000's. And he KILLED IT! He was so good in it
Sebastian has always been my favorite singer. I am planning to buy his latest album on vinyl as soon as I can.
Girl, I love what you do. I usually think you rush some anlysis videos, but you could have spent more time on this one. Don't ever stop doing what you are doing!
the ULTIMATE front man when they hit the scene. i played those first two albums to death back in the day. the end of this song gives me goosebumps.
Peace.
I love skid row and am so happy you are listening to them. Sebastian has such a beautiful voice.
While not all of our music tastes are the same, i really enjoy your analysis of the music, and your enjoyment of the abilities of certain artists. Your enthusiasm is delightful. 😊
Historycaly good
Youth gone wild is another one you need to do. Catchy chorus
She may not pick it next, but when she does, it will likely be her favorite.
We in Gen X didn't know how good we got it musically. I blame big hair and shoulder pads for skewing our perception.
Nah, I knew. It was f-cking EPIC!
Coulda been all the residual Hairnet mist in the air leftover from the 80's
I dunno man. I mean Poison is a great Rock band so is Tesla. Tom Keifer plays like 17 instruments. Hair metal got a bad rap. I mean if you listen to Something to Believe in or Life Goes on and tell me that dude can't write or sing I just can't talk to you
Skid Row Monkey Business, is a banger.
underrated song
My favorite song by Skid Row.
Love this song. Monkey Business and Youth Gone Wild are my personal favorites.
You read my mind
It's the groove, and the guitars that make this one kickass, actually. Taking nothing from S.B.
OMG, a 2nd Skid Row review... love it! I honestly believe Sebastian has one of the best rock voices ever. I know you've covered 'I remember you', but as everyone else is saying in the comments, review 'Wasted Time'! Let's have a hatrick of skid row videos :)
i really enjoyed your analysis, Sebastian's voice is incredible and i liked how you perfectly described the bits i noticed too!
Justin Hawkins reacted to her analysis of I Believe in a Thing Called Love. It was super fun, they also did a video together but it's long and I haven't had time to watch it yet.
@@StealAwayTheStars Will check out. Thanks!
You're reaction channel & your actual reactions to the music, the vocalist, band & to a great guitar solo is awesome. I've rewatched your old & new reaction videos over & over. This reaction channel is ABSOLUTELY the best on UA-cam, well def my favorite. Ty for what U do.
Anyway you're 100% right about his vocals, just oustanding. I was like 17 when the song came out & it still gives me goose bumps during certain vocal parts & I love the guitar solo but your comenters/comunity are right Youth Gone Wild off the album 18 & Life is on & almost anything from Slave To The Grind, their 2nd album.
Brian Vollmer (Helix) has credited that learning bel canto theory saved his voice. He teaches that theory. Would be another great Tea Time as well.
“Child blew a child away” I was waiting to see your face when he hit that
Diphthong!
Such an underrated vocalist! Sebastian is one of the best rock vocalists EVER, and he just doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
I caught them the following year when Pantera was opening for Skid Row. One of the best concerts I ever attended.
A concert that I still regret missing for some stupid reason
Same! I saw them at the Cap Center in DC and then 2 nights later in Hampton Va. Still the very best concerts ever. Saw them several more times over the next few years. Always put on the best show. Great sound, and Sebastian was just vocal perfection. Glory days for sure
1990 for me in Sydney. My friends weren't really into Skid Row, but I had to be there.......
