Moametal and Momometal provide backing vocals, harmonies (they were probably singing most of the backing vocals apart from that last bit where you stopped to take notice - that was, as you thought, on track which they do use for additional instruments like synth, piano etc and additional vocals like growls, screams and some harmonies) and are crucial to what makes BABYMETAL standout and different to just about every other band with their choreo which is both interpretive, relating to the meaning of each song or a lyric, but most importantly is designed to hype, involve and include the crowd. BABYMETAL's crowd engagement and crowd control is second to none. Momometal has been an official member since April 2023. Before that she supported Su and Moa as a dancer for 4 years since 2019. Original third member Yuimetal last appeared in October 2017 and left the band in October 2018 because of an ongoing (but undisclosed) health issue. The instrumentalists who support BABYMETAL in all live shows are the Kami Band. Here you saw Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums. They are the Kami Band of the West and first appeared in 2019 and have been ever present since April 2023 - the Kami Band of the East (the finest Japanese session musicians) first appeared in 2012, became the full time support in March 2014 and last appeared in January 2023. BABYMETAL have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last - and they are at their best live. You will get a lot of suggestions, you can't go wrong with any of them, just expect the unexpected.
About the Kami Band, the playing sequence on this night (Legend MM 2024) were Chris Kelly (guitar), CJ Masciantonio (guitar), Clint Tustin (bass), & Anthony Barone (drums). They form the the core of the West Kami Band, together with rotating bassists Ryan Neff & Matt Deis. Onstage, they are always positioned, from left to right as viewed by the audience: Kelly, bassist, Barone, Masciantonio. Kelly (Dark Vader), Masciantonio (Kyle Ren) & Tustin (Red Guard) were formerly part of Galactic Empire, a goofy Star Wars tribute band who donned villain helmets & played metalized John Williams music. That group originally comprised industry musicians (producers, engineers, session players, music teachers) whose diversion project went viral on UA-cam with comic book fans in 2017. BM then invited them (along with Swedish metal band Sabaton) to guest for a couple of their Japanese gigs in 2018. The trio, along with Barone from fellow-New England band Shadow Of Intent, subsequently accepted BM's offer to be their new road band in 2019. At that time, the longtime East Kami band (brilliant Japanese musicians) who had soared with BM were unable to commit to increasingly longer foreign tours, their own celebrity drawing other employment offers (the Kamis were always merely hired guns, paid only on short contracts), starting their own families, a couple of them also needing to heal nerve/tendon injuries. Currently, some West Kamis are touring heavily with other bands, namely Tustin (who is actually a guitarist but plays bass for BM, hence the unorthodox way he shredded in this clip) with Erra; Neff with Miss May I (he just quit As I Lay Dying a few days ago as well); Barone with All That Remains. Among the trio, Barone seems most committed to BM, never missing a gig even if he has to hurriedly fly over from the other side of the world. As for the other active West Kamis, Masciantonio has his own band (Tethra) & still records with Galactic Empire in the studio (but doesn't tour with them). Kelly has his own band (Alustrium) whose members gig with Galactic Empire, & also recently formed another (Hillhaven) to release some collaborated music. Deis (from All That Remains like Barone) only started filling in as tour bassist this month (Okinawa & ongoing South American tour) with neither Tustin nor Neff available. It remains to see if he continues with the North American leg next month, when Tustin is free. He seems very enthusiastic so far on socmed though, even though everyone associated with BM is required to stay cryptic off-stage in keeping with BM's imaginary 'lore'. Lastly, take note that the Kami solos is a separate live segment, & not part of the next song they segue into. Prior to Kagerou, the backing band used to get their deserving turns in the spotlight most famously before Rondo Of Nightmare (although that was short-lived), but more regularly before Catch Me If You Can, then Awadama Fever, then Yava!. Currently, it's slotted before Metali.

(Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) "Kagerou" is a word having 4 syllables like Ka-ge-ro-u [kɑ･gé･ro･ʊ]. Kami Band , the musicians with virtuosity, Chris (g), CJ (g), Anthony (d), Clint (d) (occasionally Ryan) have been dedicating their energy to BABYMETAL's international activities (including Japan) long and extensive enough to be called as our main band. They are amazing knights to protect our queen and princesses. (Of course, I love and respect original Japanese Kamis) I fortunately witnessed this very performance at the venue, this year 😍. Your interpretation of this song is correct. Su is singing about jealousy against someone using a metaphor of heat haze, "Kagerou". The hash emotion is shimmering from her inner blaze, and it seems to me that her emotion will not erupt but turn into magma deep down. It's scary😱 . This is the song featuring BM's heavy, dark, seductive and sultry side. The girls have grown up into ladies without doubt.

Hell yeah! Babymetal is absolutely amazing, one of THE best live bands around. Certainly, Japan’s most internationally well known band. Lead vocalist is Su-metal, with the handheld mic. Her vocals are always live, with some minor exceptions. Moametal and Momometal are on backing vocals with the headset mics. Their vocals are mostly live too, but they do use tracks in certain areas. They focus more on choreography and leading the crowd. And yeah, there may be 1 or 2 people in Babymetal’s fan base 😂. Besides opening for Metallica, they opened for Lady Gaga in their early years too. Later on, covered Judas Priest with Rob on stage, supported Korn and Red Hot Chili Peppers tours. Last year, toured with Sabaton and co-headlined us tour with Dethklok. They’ve been doing massive amounts of festivals this year, playing with Electric Callboy for their collab song Ratatata outside of their own sets. Babymetal just did KnotFest in South America. And Corey Taylor and his son are big fans. He cameoed Babymetal on his CMFT must be stopped MV. If you heard their early works, then you’ll notice that they’ve replaced that childlike cutsiness mixed with a more “classic” metal sound with a mature, bad-ass attitude, mixed with a more modern metal sound as they’ve grown in age and experience. I’ll surely do more, because now I want to discover them and see the evolution of the band compared to back in the days. My mind is still blown away by the fact that they are so present in the scene, but I haven’t heard of them in a long time.
Complementing @Ganimal83 comment, they played in Brazil with Slipknot on the 20th of this month, and also had a sold out solo presentation the following day, they will be playing in many Slipknot’s presentations and solo presentations alll throughout south and North America some of them will be first time ever concerts in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru, it will be their second time in Mexico. Besides that they already confirmed presentations in Australia and finally they announced and UK and Europe tour with 12 presentations on May of this coming year. So yeah, I think they’re kinda popular.
Ah, the "Legend MM" performance... one of the most amazing concerts they did (and they did a LOT of amazing concerts!). Kami Band (both, they have TWO Kami Bands, and very different ones, sound wise😄) is always shredding. Su-Metal (always in the middle, single pony tail) is the main singer, but Momometal (left side, most of the time, double pony tail) had her time to shine as a lead singer with this concert, too. "Legend MM" was HER birthday concert after all 😉 Moametal (she headbanged the hardest in this, pigtails) is a VERY good singer, too, and she had her birthday concert with "Legend M" in 2019, including taking over the lead for a song. The song is "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", and there are many special birthday versions of it. But you should watch Momometal´s version of it, at the very same concert. - Babymetal - Headbanger (Momoko ver.) (Legend MM 2024 Live) Eng Subs IMHO, the most amazing performance of this song. Well...the Kami Band backing Babymetal can shred. The girls sing and dance their asses off to it though! As for the fan-base, it is globally massive. Their big arena shows in Japan are attended by lottery and all shows worldwide sell out every time. The fan-base also ranges from small children to great grand-parents and everyone in between. Su-metal is the lead singer and the whole project was built around her vocals and stage presence. Original member Yuimetal and Moametal (now Moametal and Momometal) had 4 songs they performed as a duo to give Su a break when they were younger and still subject to child labor laws just as Su had 4 solo songs to give Yui/Moa a break.
It's a song about adult love, and it is rare for BM. If you like the song, please check out the lyrics (of course English translation is ok) for a deeper understanding after that. A feature of BM's songs, the lyrics of theirs are often very ambiguous and not easy to understand, even for Japanese, but that is part of their charm. By the way, but I wonder if beautiful and successful women still are also attracted to such dangerous love... But I don't want these ladies to experience this kind of painful love... One of my favourite Babymetal songs, maybe my number one. Their most grown up and sensual song, lots of girl power and confidence. It is about burning into fury after beeing cheated upon, and seeing them headbang together, you wouldn't want to be the guy in question. In Japan, their headline shows sold out the Budokan (14000 capacity), the Tokyo Dome (50000) or in this case Yokohama Arena (more than 20000). I'm German, and over here they sold out the Palladium in Cologne in 2024, playing for 4000 people. Next year a German Arena tour is announced, which would be a big step forward if these gigs are indeed BM headline shows. They might be, as Babymetal got lots of additional traction in Germany some months ago through their collaboration with German metalcore outfit Electric Callboy and the subsequent appearances at the Rock am Ring/Rock im Park festivals, where both bands perfomed their song "Ratatata" together on stage. They are well established in Asia, Europe and the Americas, having toured South America for the first time just recently. The Brazilian crowds were absolutely fantastic. Next BM reaction? You already did Headbanger, and if I am not mistaken plan to watch the Momobanger version. So ... With a view to the fans, I'd suggest a fancam of "Metali" at the recent Sao Paulo concert, on the channel of Eduardo Alessan. The fans knew all the Japanes (!) words and sang along louder than any BM crowd I know, causing the girls to smile spontaniously. I've been BM fan since 2017 and I still can't tell when they're using a backing track or not, sometimes it's more obvious then orhers. Apart from their early days the lead singer has never used backing track but the other two girls seem to rely on the backing track since they're in constant movement compared to the lead singer, so their breath might not be in best condition to sing.

The original trio used to sing live but when one of them (Yuimetal) left they switched to backing tracks and lip-syncing except for the main singer. During the following years there were many girls on the third position, sometimes several additional backup dancers who were not official members of BABYMETAL - unlike the girl we have now, Momometal. She can growl but I believe it came from the backing track during the three song that it can be heard. There was only one song where she was singing definitely live, her version of Headbanger. First, it's their vocals but not live, second, they are awesome.
su-metal (in the middle) is the main singer, momo-metal (on the left) and moa-metal (on the right) usually do backing vocals this song was recorded in Yokohama Arena in early march, from what I remember being there, the capacity was around 15000 and it was sold out :D

Would definitely recommend checking out some of their older stuff too. You mentioned having listened to a couple of their songs back in the day, but their deep cuts are often some of their best stuff, and there's a good amount of variety to the styles of those songs. Headbanger live at Legend 1997, Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere, and the official MV for Iine! (live is usually better, but there are some exceptions for first-time reactions) would all be good options.
You’re not the first one to mention Headbanger and there’s also another version for one of the girl’s birthday show from what I understood. Feels like it might be the next one for me!

A lot of people get _very excited_ about the special birthday versions, but it really doesn't make sense to watch a special version before seeing what it normally looks like. Well Momo and Moa can be backing tracks or be switched to the foreground. They have the dancing in mind as well as crowd command and interactions. So it is more like The singing is if they have time and breath. It changes from song to Song. While Su is their primary singer and their crowd general.
And in fact they are build this way to get their audience into their shows. This is normally pretty uncommon to get real crowd interactions. So Moa and Yui delivered the lines that the crowd might sing. But they evolved this scheme much further. Moa and Momo normally select areas of the audience and check how they react but they can go as far as going through the wanted Text line by line. The effect is simply that Su can speak to the whole audience ditectly and the audience knows how to react. This is the reason why she is a crowd general. She no longer has to go down to Single areas but this is her audience and they coordinate themselves.
Su is the main vocalist, and the other two, Moa and Momo, do sing backup and did on this song - during the chorus. They tended to blend into the mix in this performance though. That part with the backing vocals you pointed out is a rarity for Babymetal. I think on this song it dates back to when it was a solo for Su, she sang it without Moa and Momo on stage, and had some backing tracks for harmonies. That part is still there, and may be why Moa and Momo are not as incorporated into the song as well. They are in others like Headbanger or Megitsune.

Nice reaction. This song is from their 3rd album Metal Galaxy and Has some of their first real mature choreography in it. They have mentioned how their albums are business cards and an introduction to their music. The actual songs are not complete to them until the audience is part of the performance. Since you like songs that have layers to them. Babymetals song will be right up your ally. Su-metal is definitely the lead singer of Babymetal and the leader of the group. However, that doesn't mean she stands alone. Moametal has been there from the start. And Su has mentioned how she came to realize how much she leans on Moa. This is most evident during their interviews. As Su has a tendency to slightly turn to Moa for confirmation of her answers. Especially in their early days. You'll see a lot of head nodding going on. Even Yuimetal would get into it. Su talked about how she thinks of Moa as an equal now and not just as Moa being her little sister that she had to take care of. Apparently, it was the other way around. LOL. Moa is the pillar the rock if you will that keeps them together. Momoko is their new member as of 2023. and has reenergized them. Bringing metal screams of her own to their newest songs. And seem to be having more fun on stage than ever before. and letting it show. Before everything was about sticking to the choreography. Now they still stick to it but when they want to break away, they do with a lot more audience participation with it. Moa has become great at deep headbangs and an expert at leading the crowd. Su was born with more talent than humanly possible and has added a lot of skills to her vocals over the years. Babymetal has become an international treasure. Songs suggestion: 1. *Rondo of Nightmare* Live version with Kami Band solo 2. *Road of Resistance* 3. *Akatsuki* Live version Budokan 2014 All of these songs got very very good guitars solo. Except the first one is a live version only.
This is a different band than Babymetal had in the beginning. They kind of passed the torch a few years back with both bands playing together in Japan. One of the original 3 girls, Yui Mizuno, was also replaced. People have said she was having trouble breathing after shows and had to retire on Doctors advice. Yui fell off the stage at Budokan and that could possibly be related. At the time there was a lot of speculation about a solo career and whether the medical story was true. But she hasn't done anything other than a little bit of modeling. She is very beautiful and could have a career in acting or modeling if she was healthy and wanted it. Even now she's only 25. She was 11 when Babymetal started. One of the original guitarists, Mikio Fujita passed away and Shine is a really beautiful song about it. The live version looks stunning. It's also possibly about Yui. The two things happened at the same time.

The western Kami-band is solid, but would claim original version is slightly better. Ridiculously talented musicians who did jazz just as well as metal. I would asume the eastern version was phased out slowly and replaced by the western, since they toured a lot in EU and US especially.
All their songs are very different from each other, so if you decide to explore more of their discography you'd be in for many surprises. I love your recording quality and audio, very crisp and smooth. 🦊🤘
This is why most BABYMETAL fans would tell reactors to react to Live versions because during live shows, the band gets a spotlight and gets to go ham during intros and outros.
Can Babymetal shred? Technically, no. Their backing band, the Kami band, can certainly shred. Babymetal is just the three singing and dancing young ladies, but they are very good at what they do. .
Used to be my fav track until Monochrome - although this version seems to miss a little triple (?) chug just before Su starts singing which kinda throws me for a loop tbh - so I prefer some of the older versions. I do feel sometimes they use backing excessively (esp. for moa and momo - but I could be wrong at times - and choreo and audio just don't always seem possible (eg. ratatata :P)). Great reaction to an awesome track (I like their darker ones), and of course, nnore pls.
Su-metal is the main singer but all three are equal, this is why it was a big deal when one was forced out through health issues and why it was also a big deal when they finally replaced her, most bands are structured this way and it creates problems if one member tries to elevate themselves above the others

Not even the two other current members, Moa and Momo could replace Su. Yes they can sing and sing well but they just don't have the power to belt it out like Su-Metal.

After watching the video again, I can see that they do sing during the choruses. The part that I’m referring to (around 5:30 in the original) seems to be a different case, where they’re using backing vocals. I also believe that I would’ve not made that comment if I wasn’t able to hear the harmonies. Me being able to hear the harmonies made me question why I was not seeing their lips moving. Momometal has been an official member since April 2023. Before that she supported Su and Moa as a dancer for 4 years since 2019. Original third member Yuimetal last appeared in October 2017 and left the band in October 2018 because of an ongoing (but undisclosed) health issue.
The instrumentalists who support BABYMETAL in all live shows are the Kami Band. Here you saw Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums. They are the Kami Band of the West and first appeared in 2019 and have been ever present since April 2023 - the Kami Band of the East (the finest Japanese session musicians) first appeared in 2012, became the full time support in March 2014 and last appeared in January 2023.
BABYMETAL have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last - and they are at their best live. You will get a lot of suggestions, you can't go wrong with any of them, just expect the unexpected.

About the Kami Band, the playing sequence on this night (Legend MM 2024) were Chris Kelly (guitar), CJ Masciantonio (guitar), Clint Tustin (bass), & Anthony Barone (drums). They form the the core of the West Kami Band, together with rotating bassists Ryan Neff & Matt Deis.
Onstage, they are always positioned, from left to right as viewed by the audience: Kelly, bassist, Barone, Masciantonio.
Kelly (Dark Vader), Masciantonio (Kyle Ren) & Tustin (Red Guard) were formerly part of Galactic Empire, a goofy Star Wars tribute band who donned villain helmets & played metalized John Williams music. That group originally comprised industry musicians (producers, engineers, session players, music teachers) whose diversion project went viral on UA-cam with comic book fans in 2017.
BM then invited them (along with Swedish metal band Sabaton) to guest for a couple of their Japanese gigs in 2018. The trio, along with Barone from fellow-New England band Shadow Of Intent, subsequently accepted BM's offer to be their new road band in 2019. At that time, the longtime East Kami band (brilliant Japanese musicians) who had soared with BM were unable to commit to increasingly longer foreign tours, their own celebrity drawing other employment offers (the Kamis were always merely hired guns, paid only on short contracts), starting their own families, a couple of them also needing to heal nerve/tendon injuries.
Currently, some West Kamis are touring heavily with other bands, namely Tustin (who is actually a guitarist but plays bass for BM, hence the unorthodox way he shredded in this clip) with Erra; Neff with Miss May I (he just quit As I Lay Dying a few days ago as well); Barone with All That Remains. Among the trio, Barone seems most committed to BM, never missing a gig even if he has to hurriedly fly over from the other side of the world.
As for the other active West Kamis, Masciantonio has his own band (Tethra) & still records with Galactic Empire in the studio (but doesn't tour with them).
Kelly has his own band (Alustrium) whose members gig with Galactic Empire, & also recently formed another (Hillhaven) to release some collaborated music.
Deis (from All That Remains like Barone) only started filling in as tour bassist this month (Okinawa & ongoing South American tour) with neither Tustin nor Neff available. It remains to see if he continues with the North American leg next month, when Tustin is free. He seems very enthusiastic so far on socmed though, even though everyone associated with BM is required to stay cryptic off-stage in keeping with BM's imaginary 'lore'.
Lastly, take note that the Kami solos is a separate live segment, & not part of the next song they segue into. Prior to Kagerou, the backing band used to get their deserving turns in the spotlight most famously before Rondo Of Nightmare (although that was short-lived), but more regularly before Catch Me If You Can, then Awadama Fever, then Yava!. Currently, it's slotted before Metali.
That explains a lot! Those guys are also in other great bands, but I appreciate the devotion to BABYMETAL even though they have other projects. I fortunately witnessed this very performance at the venue, this year 😍. Your interpretation of this song is correct. Su is singing about jealousy against someone using a metaphor of heat haze, "Kagerou". The hash emotion is shimmering from her inner blaze, and it seems to me that her emotion will not erupt but turn into magma deep down. It's scary😱 . This is the song featuring BM's heavy, dark, seductive and sultry side. The girls have grown up into ladies without doubt.

Hell yeah! Babymetal is absolutely amazing, one of THE best live bands around. Certainly, Japan’s most internationally well known band.
Lead vocalist is Su-metal, with the handheld mic. Her vocals are always live, with some minor exceptions.
Moametal and Momometal are on backing vocals with the headset mics. Their vocals are mostly live too, but they do use tracks in certain areas. They focus more on choreography and leading the crowd.
And yeah, there may be 1 or 2 people in Babymetal’s fan base 😂. Besides opening for Metallica, they opened for Lady Gaga in their early years too. Later on, covered Judas Priest with Rob on stage, supported Korn and Red Hot Chili Peppers tours. Last year, toured with Sabaton and co-headlined us tour with Dethklok. They’ve been doing massive amounts of festivals this year, playing with Electric Callboy for their collab song Ratatata outside of their own sets. Babymetal just did KnotFest in South America. And Corey Taylor and his son are big fans. He cameoed Babymetal on his CMFT must be stopped MV.
If you heard their early works, then you’ll notice that they’ve replaced that childlike cutsiness mixed with a more “classic” metal sound with a mature, bad-ass attitude, mixed with a more modern metal sound as they’ve grown in age and experience.

Complementing @Ganimal83 comment, they played in Brazil with Slipknot on the 20th of this month, and also had a sold out solo presentation the following day, they will be playing in many Slipknot’s presentations and solo presentations alll throughout south and North America some of them will be first time ever concerts in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru, it will be their second time in Mexico.
Besides that they already confirmed presentations in Australia and finally they announced and UK and Europe tour with 12 presentations on May of this coming year.
So yeah, I think they’re kinda popular.

Ah, the "Legend MM" performance... one of the most amazing concerts they did (and they did a LOT of amazing concerts!). Kami Band (both, they have TWO Kami Bands, and very different ones, sound wise😄) is always shredding.
Su-Metal (always in the middle, single pony tail) is the main singer, but Momometal (left side, most of the time, double pony tail) had her time to shine as a lead singer with this concert, too. "Legend MM" was HER birthday concert after all 😉 Moametal (she headbanged the hardest in this, pigtails) is a VERY good singer, too, and she had her birthday concert with "Legend M" in 2019, including taking over the lead for a song. The song is "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", and there are many special birthday versions of it. But you should watch Momometal´s version of it, at the very same concert.

Well...the Kami Band backing Babymetal can shred. The girls sing and dance their asses off to it though!
As for the fan-base, it is globally massive. Their big arena shows in Japan are attended by lottery and all shows worldwide sell out every time. The fan-base also ranges from small children to great grand-parents and everyone in between.
Su-metal is the lead singer and the whole project was built around her vocals and stage presence. Original member Yuimetal and Moametal (now Moametal and Momometal) had 4 songs they performed as a duo to give Su a break when they were younger and still subject to child labor laws just as Su had 4 solo songs to give Yui/Moa a break.
Really interesting fact about the child labour laws. We got to love a band that is able to reach many generations of people with their music too.
It's a song about adult love, and it is rare for BM. If you like the song, please check out the lyrics (of course English translation is ok) for a deeper understanding after that. A feature of BM's songs, the lyrics of theirs are often very ambiguous and not easy to understand, even for Japanese, but that is part of their charm.
By the way, but I wonder if beautiful and successful women still are also attracted to such dangerous love... But I don't want these ladies to experience this kind of painful love... Thank you from Japan!

Thx bro! Queen Suzuka and Kami band her roughest solo the Rondo of Nightmare. Epic song!
One of my favourite Babymetal songs, maybe my number one. Their most grown up and sensual song, lots of girl power and confidence. It is about burning into fury after beeing cheated upon, and seeing them headbang together, you wouldn't want to be the guy in question.
In Japan, their headline shows sold out the Budokan (14000 capacity), the Tokyo Dome (50000) or in this case Yokohama Arena (more than 20000). I'm German, and over here they sold out the Palladium in Cologne in 2024, playing for 4000 people. Next year a German Arena tour is announced, which would be a big step forward if these gigs are indeed BM headline shows. They might be, as Babymetal got lots of additional traction in Germany some months ago through their collaboration with German metalcore outfit Electric Callboy and the subsequent appearances at the Rock am Ring/Rock im Park festivals, where both bands perfomed their song "Ratatata" together on stage. They are well established in Asia, Europe and the Americas, having toured South America for the first time just recently. The Brazilian crowds were absolutely fantastic.
Next BM reaction? You already did Headbanger, and if I am not mistaken plan to watch the Momobanger version. So ...
With a view to the fans, I'd suggest a fancam of "Metali" at the recent Sao Paulo concert, on the channel of Eduardo Alessan. The fans knew all the Japanes (!) words and sang along louder than any BM crowd I know, causing the girls to smile spontaniously. For musicianship, you might alternatively indulge yourself with "Brand New Day" live, featuring guest guitarists Tim Henson and Scott Le Bron from Polyphia actually on stage. While the song is from the 2019 album "Metal Galaxy", it was only in 2024 that they got to perform it together live. Probably their most uplifting song.

I've been BM fan since 2017 and I still can't tell when they're using a backing track or not, sometimes it's more obvious then orhers. Apart from their early days the lead singer has never used backing track but the other two girls seem to rely on the backing track since they're in constant movement compared to the lead singer, so their breath might not be in best condition to sing.
Yeah that’s what it seems to be like. The choreographies and interactions with the crowd are more of a priority.

The original trio used to sing live but when one of them (Yuimetal) left they switched to backing tracks and lip-syncing except for the main singer. During the following years there were many girls on the third position, sometimes several additional backup dancers who were not official members of BABYMETAL - unlike the girl we have now, Momometal. She can growl but I believe it came from the backing track during the three song that it can be heard. There was only one song where she was singing definitely live, her version of Headbanger. First, it's their vocals but not live, second, they are awesome.

Would definitely recommend checking out some of their older stuff too. You mentioned having listened to a couple of their songs back in the day, but their deep cuts are often some of their best stuff, and there's a good amount of variety to the styles of those songs. Headbanger live at Legend 1997, Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere, and the official MV for Iine! (live is usually better, but there are some exceptions for first-time reactions) would all be good options.
You’re not the first one to mention Headbanger and there’s also another version for one of the girl’s birthday show from what I understood. Feels like it might be the next one for me!

A lot of people get _very excited_ about the special birthday versions, but it really doesn't make sense to watch a special version before seeing what it normally looks like. Well Momo and Moa can be backing tracks or be switched to the foreground. They have the dancing in mind as well as crowd command and interactions. So it is more like The singing is if they have time and breath. It changes from song to Song. While Su is their primary singer and their crowd general.
And in fact they are build this way to get their audience into their shows. This is normally pretty uncommon to get real crowd interactions. So Moa and Yui delivered the lines that the crowd might sing. But they evolved this scheme much further. Moa and Momo normally select areas of the audience and check how they react but they can go as far as going through the wanted Text line by line. The effect is simply that Su can speak to the whole audience ditectly and the audience knows how to react.
This is the reason why she is a crowd general. She no longer has to go down to Single areas but this is her audience and they coordinate themselves.

Su is the main vocalist, and the other two, Moa and Momo, do sing backup and did on this song - during the chorus. They tended to blend into the mix in this performance though. That part with the backing vocals you pointed out is a rarity for Babymetal. I think on this song it dates back to when it was a solo for Su, she sang it without Moa and Momo on stage, and had some backing tracks for harmonies. That part is still there, and may be why Moa and Momo are not as incorporated into the song as well. They are in others like Headbanger or Megitsune.
Yeah it seems that there’s a big focus on the live shows and experience they give to their fans on those concerts, so what you’re saying, would make sense as to why there was that part in the music. Thanks for the info! 🤘
Nice reaction. This song is from their 3rd album Metal Galaxy and Has some of their first real mature choreography in it. They have mentioned how their albums are business cards and an introduction to their music. The actual songs are not complete to them until the audience is part of the performance. Since you like songs that have layers to them. Babymetals song will be right up your ally. Su-metal is definitely the lead singer of Babymetal and the leader of the group. However, that doesn't mean she stands alone. Moametal has been there from the start. And Su has mentioned how she came to realize how much she leans on Moa. This is most evident during their interviews. As Su has a tendency to slightly turn to Moa for confirmation of her answers. Especially in their early days. You'll see a lot of head nodding going on. Even Yuimetal would get into it. Su talked about how she thinks of Moa as an equal now and not just as Moa being her little sister that she had to take care of. Apparently, it was the other way around. LOL. Moa is the pillar the rock if you will that keeps them together. Momoko is their new member as of 2023. and has reenergized them. Bringing metal screams of her own to their newest songs. And seem to be having more fun on stage than ever before. and letting it show. Before everything was about sticking to the choreography. Now they still stick to it but when they want to break away, they do with a lot more audience participation with it. Moa has become great at deep headbangs and an expert at leading the crowd. Su was born with more talent than humanly possible and has added a lot of skills to her vocals over the years. Babymetal has become an international treasure. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

This is a different band than Babymetal had in the beginning. They kind of passed the torch a few years back with both bands playing together in Japan.
One of the original 3 girls, Yui Mizuno, was also replaced. People have said she was having trouble breathing after shows and had to retire on Doctors advice. Yui fell off the stage at Budokan and that could possibly be related. At the time there was a lot of speculation about a solo career and whether the medical story was true. But she hasn't done anything other than a little bit of modeling. She is very beautiful and could have a career in acting or modeling if she was healthy and wanted it. Even now she's only 25. She was 11 when Babymetal started.
One of the original guitarists, Mikio Fujita passed away and Shine is a really beautiful song about it. The live version looks stunning. It's also possibly about Yui. The two things happened at the same time.

The western Kami-band is solid, but would claim original version is slightly better.
Ridiculously talented musicians who did jazz just as well as metal. I would asume the eastern version was phased out slowly and replaced by the western, since they toured a lot in EU and US especially.
All their songs are very different from each other, so if you decide to explore more of their discography you'd be in for many surprises.

Can Babymetal shred? Technically, no. Their backing band, the Kami band, can certainly shred. Babymetal is just the three singing and dancing young ladies, but they are very good at what they do. .

Used to be my fav track until Monochrome - although this version seems to miss a little triple (?) chug just before Su starts singing which kinda throws me for a loop tbh - so I prefer some of the older versions. I do feel sometimes they use backing excessively (esp. for moa and momo - but I could be wrong at times - and choreo and audio just don't always seem possible (eg. ratatata :P)). Great reaction to an awesome track (I like their darker ones), and of course, nnore pls.

Su-metal is the main singer but all three are equal, this is why it was a big deal when one was forced out through health issues and why it was also a big deal when they finally replaced her, most bands are structured this way and it creates problems if one member tries to elevate themselves above the others

@@chrisharris1522i don't agree. Babymetal was formed around Suzuka's voice. If Su-Metal was to ever leave I feel that it would be the end of the Babymetal. Not even the two other current members, Moa and Momo could replace Su. Yes they can sing and sing well but they just don't have the power to belt it out like Su-Metal.

After watching the video again, I can see that they do sing during the choruses. The part that I’m referring to (around 5:30 in the original) seems to be a different case, where they’re using backing vocals. I also believe that I would’ve not made that comment if I wasn’t able to hear the harmonies. Me being able to hear the harmonies made me question why I was not seeing their lips moving.
