Nice one. They started playing this song in 2018, but at that time it was a Su-metal solo and the only clue to the song title was a set list where it was listed as 'Tattoo'. Only when the album was released in 2019 did we finally get to know it is 'Kagerou' and it was no longer a Su-metal solo, Moa and the chosen Avenger at those shows were now on stage with this new choreo. You have already been told about the Kami Band members (and it is not as simple as face paint = East, masks = West as the masks first appeared in 2019 and Kamis East and West were supporting BABYMETAL from then until the Kami Band East's last appearance (to date) in January 2023. To tell them apart you will need to take notice of the different guitars they all play.
Good one, thanks! Both sets of the Kami Band wear masks since 2019 (and darker robes since 2018 with ONE exception: Legend Metal Galaxy shows). The eastern set last show was in January 2023. With that said, I admit that the studio version of "Kagerou" went initially under my radar when it came out (not much a hard rock fan and I was new to BABYMETAL back in late 2019) but then, I listened to the live version (from the Legend Metal Galaxy live album) and the intro got my attention immediately, specially the drums section and that final blastbeat in particular by Anthony Barone, using his personal signature technique: the gravity blast. The song represents the more adult side of BABYMETAL both for the choreography and for the lyrics with a theme that is not usual for them: jealousy. I believe that this live performance speaks for itself and I'm so grateful to have experienced it in person. Happy Halloween to everyone who celebrate it. 🤘🦊
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。(Note : Kami Band has been wearing masks since 2019, either East or West) "Kagerou" is a word having 4 syllables like Ka-ge-ro-u [kɑ・gé・ro・ʊ]. Our Kami Band, the musicians with virtuosity : Chris, CJ, Anthony and 3 bassists (Clint, Ryan, Matt) have been dedicating their energy to BABYMETAL's international activities (including Japan concerts) long and extensive enough to be called as our main band. They are amazing knights to protect our queen and princesses. (Of course, I love and respect original Kamis. But they are currently and mainly focusing on their own respective activities. So I went to see various concerts, soLi, Kari Band etc. where I can see BOH, Isao, Yuta and other Kamis.) Su is singing about jealousy against someone using a metaphor of heat haze, "Kagerou". The hash emotion is shimmering from her inner blaze, and it seems to me that her emotion will not erupt but turn into magma deep down. It's scary😱 . This is the song featuring BM's heavy, dark, seductive and sultry side. The girls have grown up into ladies without doubt.
Hell yeah man! Love this song. Kami West absolutely crushed. They were added in 2019 to assist Babymetal with increased touring, and essentially, became their sole backing band as of Apr 2023. When they were added, Both Kami East and West wore masks. Chris Kelly - Guitar, 1st solo CJ Masciantonio - Guitar, 2nd solo Clint Tustin - Bass Anthony Barone - Drums Chris, CJ, and Clint were members of the Star Wars themed metal band, Galactic Empire, and Anthony was ex-Shadow of Intent. Ryan Neff and Mat Deis has replaced Clint a number of times on Bass. 🤘🦊
I was there for this, and my wife and I used it as a bit of a rest. She leaned back on me, I wrapped around her, and we just watched the solos and the performance. It was a wonderful calm in the storm that was the rest of those two days. Since you mentioned hand dancing, I think their most intricate song where they do that is “Shanti Shanti Shanti.” It’s a shoutout to Indian culture and music and every Indian reactor I’ve seen loves it. If you’d like to see it, get the version from the channel called For the Fox God.
This was the Kami band West..in late 2017 the Eastern Kami's donned the dark robes and in 2019 we first saw the Masks when they were added along with the Western Kami's. The Eastern Kami's haven't played with Babymetal since January 2023...almost 2 years ago. I saw your AVATAR Shirt....Avatar opened for Babymetal on their first FULL US Tour back in 2019 which saw the Release of their 3rd Album "Metal Galaxy" at the LA concert that went to #1 on the Billboards "Top Rock Album" Chart!! Thanks for another great reaction and as always.... Put your Kitsune UP!!
This was the ultimate slow burn on metal galaxy for me. I though nothing of it the first few times i heared it, then one day it just clicked and i was like 'Wow!' and it became my favourite on the album. I name drop Yuyoyuppe a lot but, it was written by him, so it's relevant lol. It's not even his best song for them but it still rocks. It was their first rock song with a bluesy and more mature feel. A lot of people still think the Western kamis are the 'new' Kamis, but they have actually been the main band for 5 years now. Koba never told fans the eastern kamis were in a semi-retired phase from Babymetal when Metal Galaxy came out. I can't be sure of this, but i would guess they have done more concerts with Babymetal than the Eastern Kamis did. (Someone will know for sure if they have).
@@autohmae Nice one. I knew someone would know for sure. The Western Kamis time even includes covid and the hiatus, which just shows how hard they have been working since. Unreal. Yeah, the Western kamis are veterans now.
@@Ryujin170 The first year or so, I was worried they were not delivering the same quality, but as you said they are veterans now and no problem at all.
I was at Legend MM for this performance. Getting to see them perform this song live was a real treat because they don't perform this one live very often. This was actually the first performance of Kagerou in four years.
Great reaction! I love the usual BABYMETAL and the "DARK SIDE BABYMETAL"!🦊🔥 Personally, I think that KAMI BAND is very talented and I hope they will get more attention along with BABYMETAL, so I hope they will take off their masks!🎸
FYI on the bassist. if i am not mistaken he plays bass for Babymetal but he also plays guitar also so to see him knowing he plays both is cool. and they also do other work besides Babymetal.
The second guitarist CJ is consistent with his 7 stringers throughout the show, the first guitarist Chris mainly plays 7 strings too, but he swaps between 6 7 and 8 strings according to the song. I think he plays with his 6 strings for Kagerou.
This clip is from Legend MM - 20 Night (the Kami solos prefaced Yava! instead of Kagerou the next night at 21 Night). Both gigs took place in front of 17,000 audiences at Yokohama Arena. First guitarist to solo here is Chris Kelly (formerly Galactic Empire's Darth Vader), followed by guitarist CJ Masciantonio (formerly Galactic Empire's Kyle Ren). The bassist here is Clint Tustin (formerly Galactic Empire's Red Guard), while the drummer is Anthony Barone (formerly Shadow Of Intent). Onstage, from the audience's vantage, they always line up from left to right: Kelly, bassist, Barone, Masciantonio. Galactic Empire is a goofy Star Wars tribute band featuring industry musicians wearing villain costumes & playing metalized John Williams music. They had gone viral on UA-cam in 2017 with comic book fans, then supported BM in Japan during 2018, & accepted Kobametal's offer to join a new Kami Band lineup in 2019 (replacing the beloved Japanese OGs who were hard-pressed to commit to ever-longer foreign tours on short freelance contracts). The West Kamis currently has 6 core members, including bassists Ryan Neff & newcomer Matt Deis (who only joined recently). Tustin is also a guitarist but plays bass with BM (& currently seems to favor touring with Erra as their second road guitarist). Likewise, Neff is touring a lot with Miss May I (while also leaving As I Lay Dying a couple weeks ago). Erra, Miss May I, & All That Remains (which is Barone's other band) already have booked gigs up to mid-2025, while BM is currently only announced for Knotfest Australia next year. Further reshuffling of band personnel is thus likely. Kelly & Masciantonio front their own longtime bands (Alustrium & Tethra respectively) while also dabbling in side projects (Kelly recently formed Hillhaven to release some collaboration music, while Masciantonio still records with Galactic Empire in the studio but doesn't tour with them). Both of them, along with the busier Barone, haven't yet missed any BM gig so they seem most committed to performing live with the girls. Deis (also from All That Remains) has been very enthusiastic on socmed since he joined the ongoing South American tour leg, visibly emboldening the other Kamis to loosen up off-stage & hang out together for fun. Team Babymetal tended to be very reticent otherwise, with Kobametal reputedly enforcing non-disclosure agreements on everyone in the inner circle in order to maintain BM's convoluted "lore" (Kobametal, Su-metal, Moametal, Monometal, Yuimetal, Babybones, Sisterbones, Chosen Seven, Avengers, East Kamis, West Kamis, et al are or were all invented personas which each member take on professionally).
