Good reaction - and as you liked this one so much I would suggest you really need to watch a live performance ... here are two recent ones - live at PIA Arena April 2023 or live at Legend MM March 2024. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It was the first single they released after splitting from the parent group Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right - that was in 2013 - this video was released when Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were 13, about to turn 14. 'Megitsune' is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - they are becoming more assertive, less subservient, but they are also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is the exact melody from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back wearing their kitsune masks and waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.
Sore! 🦊🤘🔥 Yesterday at Knotfest Brazil and today live at Audio,. São Paulo It was a dream come true with the girls playing live. Knotfest Argentina and Chile here we go!🦊🤘🔥
It is suspicious that they tour together with Slipknot. I think we will soon have a BabyMetal collaboration with them. It would be the most exciting thing since they performed Painkiller with Rob Halford.
Enjoyed the reaction and discussion! Megitsune is classic Babymetal...and as Grington300 mentioned, really worth looking at one of those live versions. Looking forward to the next song reaction!
Nice reaction. One of my favorite songs and the video is amazing, but nowadays I prefer to listen to the more recent live versions, as it is heavier instrumentally.
You are very dishonest in your reactions to Babymetal because that's not what you have said about other babymetal songs that you have reacted to so which is it what you said in this video or what you said in the past five Babymetal videos which one is it Make up your mind
Not sure what you are referring to; all of our reactions are honest. I have liked every single song, but personally this one is my favorite one. Who knows the next one I listen to could be my new favorite as the only ones I have listened to are the ones we have reacted to so far.
