Thanks for the video - I’ve owned an Ingenium Disco Sport HSE from new for 7 years and it has been a real workhorse and totally reliable. I’ve only watched 54 seconds this but must comment Matt. The original Freelander was a very good car in period. I sold these and they flew out of the showroom.
I’m a member of NT and English heritage, I’ve even got a Yankee candle air freshener. I have thrashed every car I’ve had (admittedly sports cars) within an inch of their lives. I had a 2019 Disco Sport Landmark Edition with the Ingenium for about 5,000 miles and 6 months. Half the time I had it was spent at the Land Rover dealer, the other half it spent preparing itself for the Land Rover dealer. I swear nothing quite worked properly on that thing. Everything from chain rattle, to the door pull coming off in my hand. Oh, and it was beautifully maintained too. Bosch wiper blades and Bridgestone tires.... Glad this one's manual, the automatic in mine was the worst transmission I've ever had in a car.
This is the video I feared! My wife has a 2017 Disco Sport (seemingly the wrong engine) HSE Sport Luxury. We bought it at the height of the covid market. I’ve been avoiding the cost of these now for a while😢. That said, regularly maintained at Premier Hazel Grove and been faultless!
7 years for the cam belt on the 2.2 Freelander 2, Evoque and Discovery Sport after 2013 I think. Had both Freelanders which never let me down looking for a Evoque Discovery Sport one day.
I have a 2019 Discovery Sport with the gas 2.0 liter turbo charged engine. Why in the hell would I do a 15k mile oil change? Every time I take it to be serviced, they’re like it doesn’t need an oil change! I’m sorry the oil will be changed at 6.5 thousand miles. I tell them what does it matter? I’m paying for it!! Literally just picked up my wife’s Evoque HSE Dynamic Lux today from the garage. It’s a 2018 Diesel & it’s only done 40k & they’ve just replaced blown turbo, knackered timing chain, cracked thermostat housing & thermostat & had 4 goes at re-sealing the timing case due to leakage. It’s got FSH & had interim oil changes. Can’t even sell it as they’re worthless - cheers JLR 🙄
I went to see one of these, It was nice inside but then the car dealer said it wouldn’t start due to an electrical fault and was booked to go to JLR. I went home in my 2007 BMW 530d and felt the interior was better and it drives wonderfully just like new.
I've seen quite a few of your videos and after the first 2 minutes anybody could see this car was a winner . Amazing that you could buy this as a trade motor as it is almost perfect 👌
I take my 2011 Autobiography L322 to A1 in Bury. Andy is a genuinely nice guy. They are quite pricey but they know their stuff. I found out the hard way of taking it to a normal garage. Don’t! Just use a specialist and if you’re anywhere near Bury, use A1. 👍🏻
After watching a video you made about a freelander 2..I bought one a 07 HSE it's the best car I've owned..I service it myself every 5 kms it's never let me down apart from a split turbo pipe! I tow trailers etc it also spends time off road..brilliant car..it's got 220kms on clock

Really like this car. I've always liked the Freelander 2 but this... This is nice. If i were in the market I'd definitely go for this. No doubt it will sell quickly. Nice one, Matt 👍
My son had one of these, but on a later plate with the Ingenium engine. Never out of the dealership for oil changes and DPF issues! I agree with you that the earlier 2.2 diesels were much better. Nice car for the next owner.👍🇬🇧😎
I've had my disco sport landmark for over 5 years, brilliant car no faults and I would get another one if the luxury car tax didn't apply, the car does everything and having the 7 seats makes it a rare car for what it does
Hello Matt I’m considering buying a 2017 discovery sport diesel, 2 litre 100klms for a really good price . You said the 2 litre diesel is rubbish but would not expand on it. Mechanically what is the problem. Love your videos and have to laugh every car you check out, it’s filthy and needs a good scrub. Rickie from down under
We had a disco sport hse black in that burnt orange colour with black pack before we upgraded to a velar , it was a 2 litre ingenium engine, and we never had an issue in the two years we owned it , we took it to the top end of Scotland, to the bottom end of Cornwall, only got rid of it because I wanted a Range Rover , was a nice car though .
Exactly, perfectly designed for this. Problem is folks use them to drive the kids to school around the corner... And if they also follow JLR 'extended service intervals' then God help those engines... Love the Velar BTW, probably the only thing to pull me away from my DS :-)
Success story and the type of car i always buy, low milgage and full service spec, great engine as you say, i did have an f pace with a 2.0l ingenium engine before my current range rove sport and the engine wouldn't pull you out of bed,and sounded like a go kart under any load or pressure
Not sure what it is about these car vids that makes it so compelling for a saddo car geek such as me, but it is! I could sense (and the viewers shared) your inner “Jurassic Park!” moment on discovery (no pun intended) of the matching branded tyres and floorless history folder! 👌👍😀 Let’s be honest, we all knew as soon as we saw the English Heritage sticker!
I would have bought that if I had space. A good one is hard to find. I suspect the most off-road that has been is the Cream Tea Shop at Hatfield House!
Have a 2.2 auto Freelander 2 with 140,000 on the clock. Love it, my mechanic says the most reliable Landy. Cannot see anything on the market that comes near it. So its going to have to last me a few more years. Though this early disco with the old diesel engine could be a possible!
I bought the 2.2 hse lux model last year from main dealer, love the car but had a few bits of work done under warranty. One of these was a replacement steering rack, I think this is a recall on this model, due to snapping bolts. But like I say hopefully going to keep mine for a while as I do love the car.
One of the great tragedies in automotive history was the sale of Rover Group to BMW rather than Honda. The Nazi Staff car producers asset stripped Rover. Whereas had a Honda / Rover merger happened the mid range SUVs would have had Land Rover style and cachet with Honda reliability.
@@SleepyGarfield73bmw drastically improved them from what they were. Tata doesn’t seem to have worsened them, either. Under developed maybe, but life as a car enthusiast would be boring if everything were perfect.

I have a Discovery Sport, first registered in 11/2018 (I think it's a 2019 model). Is it the last series DS180, before this new DS? The engine is deisel, 150 HP, of course... now it has more than 250,000 km (110 kW), no problems. The chain in the engine, even the battery, everything is original, the first installation. Regular maintenance and no city driving at all. And yes, I replaced the generator.
Bought a DS in December 2015 had the choice of the SD4 or the ingenium. £2000 for new drive chains after 45k miles later, wished I’d gone with the 2.2 🤦♂️
This I reckon is near the top as a perfect long trip, motorway muncher, ski trip car. Not an everyday car. They just don't shine as much with such use. The top for me would be something like a Volvo estate V90 with winter tyres and auto gearbox.
Great car. Love your comments on the English Heritage & Lifeboat stickers. Totally true, my step-dad who's a Lifeboat sticker guy has an Audi and if I as much get in to drive it and close the door a bit harshly he won't speak to me for a week. Count on them to baby a car. 😊
Glad you agree with the 2.0 Ingeniboom 💥💣💥 engine. Really stops me going for a JLR 4 pot. 2.2 is a good alternative but tidy examples are hard to find.

Nice review as always.😃 In Norway they have redused the cambelt service from 10 to 7 years do to a bad cambelt tensioner, espesially on the sd4(190)hp engine.?
Nice to see a RR looking so good after 8-9 years. Also worth noting that the 2.2 is the engine to go for and not the 2.0 Igenium lump....which does not fit it's name!

Nice car Matt! I had those conti cross contacts on my Defender and they were complete rubbish. Switched to goodyear wranglers and totally transformed it
I currently own a FL2 TD4 auto and a 2016 DS SD4 SE Auto. All that I can say is that they are surely proven for me the best of the best in reliability and comfort. I use the FL2 on gravel roads and as 4x4 - It is still better than any new Toyota 4x4 of any model!! Just keep to the following when buying a TD4 or a SD4. First think block off the EGR and remove the DPF and use the best diesel you can buy. By doing this it just increases reliability by preventing exhaust gas recirculating through the engine leading to unessary carbon deposits in the engine and polluting the oil. Always add Ceratech from Liqui Moly to the oil. It is worth the costs and really reduces friction in the engine and it is noticeable smoother running. Keep it away from the agents where you get ripped off - there are more than enough really good private Land Rover service agencies. And lastly you can treat yourself with a reliable and recommendable remap from Celtic Tuning. The new specs is 174 kW and 500 Nm torque. It makes it even more driveable and flatten the torque curve for lower rpm at travel speed. 1800 rpm at 120 kmh giving me 12.8 km/l What more do you want from a classy 4x4!
Insurance costs for keyless ignition Land Rovers have increased, though not by as much as the press will have one believe. I've just re-insured my Range Rover Vogue V8 diesel for less than it costs to tax it. Use a Faraday pouch for your fob & it won't get nicked.
Love your channel mate, most down to earth car guy on UA-cam, 10/10. Please bring back the old intro music though :( this new one just sounds a little bit off/distorted.
I’m intrigued that the SD4 was offered in the Evoque & Disco Sport as a manual. That engine was only offered as an auto in the FL2. I take a different view of the manual than Matt. The clutch was a weak point on the FL2 & is anywhere between £12-1500 to replace because of the work involved
Insurance on Land Rovers is highly expensive at the moment. Also the 2.2ltr is Euro5. So when all the Ulez charges come in, you'll be paying! Just bought an Mazda CX-5. Have you reviewed one of these yet??

I have a 2016 disco sport HSE Lux and it’s been perfect. Never missed a beat even at 90k still as smooth as new. Great cars. Just have to look after them and service them well… oh and use decent fuel. Great vid Matt.
Correct
I have a late FL2 manual with the same 2.2 psa diesel. Most comfortable and capable car I've owned and on a run 50mpg. No range anxiety with over 600 miles on a tank and 5 minutes to fully charge 😊
Love these! Interior is like an actual baby Range Rover! Got that ‘country set’, well to do image too.
Well done Matt, you "massively underspent"! A lovely example, it'll be sold quickly👌
I love your Land Rover content. You have so much trivia to add that I always learn something.
Kiddies forcing a change, good info and video. I also hate to see a towbar for obvious reasons, I like the idea of comparing mileage on prior MOT something I’ve never done. Subbed.
That's a minter shows it's been lavished with lots of money wow very nice land rover discovery surely it gonna be sold. Awesome matt keep them cheap cars coming
Glad this one's manual, the automatic in mine was the worst transmission I've ever had in a car.
most people say otherwise, maybe dont take care of it
That's come up mint. I had an Indus silver SE Tech but with the Ingenium engine. Never had any problems with it.
What color did you get if you don't mind me asking?
7 years for the cam belt on the 2.2 Freelander 2, Evoque and Discovery Sport after 2013 I think. Had both Freelanders which never let me down looking for a Evoque Discovery Sport one day.
This era of Land Rovers have great interiors imo, sturdy, luxe enough, and practical
I truly wish they would send Land Rover products to the US with diesels. Amazing content, love the channel.
Harry’s garage just dropped a vid about why he’s given back his turd ev and gone back into a diesel Range Rover lol
Saw it earlier! Was getting worried bout him, running an EV....but he's snapped back to reality.
And broke down before he reached his destination.
@zog97xy are you paid to rubbish british products? I've seen your comments on other feeds.
Not been a British car for years sadly@@thelifeandtimesofteddywint5396
@@thelifeandtimesofteddywint5396 Don't you mean INDIAN PRODUCTS they are owned by an indian company called TATA, They are unreliable behemoths and need taking off the road.
Bloody heck, was it done under warranty? I'd hate to think what that lot would cost.
Ingenium engines are amazing, think they're worse than the TDV6/SDV6 engines with that crankshaft issue
Piles steaming 💩
You would be better off setting fire to it😜
@@paulbaddiley7326 He can't afford to buy any matches now!
I went to see one of these, It was nice inside but then the car dealer said it wouldn’t start due to an electrical fault and was booked to go to JLR. I went home in my 2007 BMW 530d and felt the interior was better and it drives wonderfully just like new.
That looks like the nicest Discovery i have ever seen.....well done.
Brilliant 👍🏾 I’m no car expert but watching you gets my anxiety up because saying “I spent £11k plus and over “ would just let me unsubscribe 😂 you truly show “you win some, you loose some” 👍🏾
I must say I love my Discovery Sport - Of course I have the American version, running on how do you folks say "a petrol engine". sitting at just over 60K miles, and still looks and runs great. Land Rover trolls take note.
We had the face lifted Discovery Sport, it was a great car and overall the experience was positive for us.
I've had my disco sport landmark for over 5 years, brilliant car no faults and I would get another one if the luxury car tax didn't apply, the car does everything and having the 7 seats makes it a rare car for what it does
As in most walks of life, quality sells. It's a great looking vehicle in great condition.
Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant cars solid engine have had one for 7 years only issue was a boot strut
That’s a lovely example, it should sell very quickly, well done Matt❤.
Let’s be honest, we all knew as soon as we saw the English Heritage sticker!
Haha exactly. Back of the net
Keep up the Partridge references, too 👌
I would have bought that if I had space. A good one is hard to find. I suspect the most off-road that has been is the Cream Tea Shop at Hatfield House!
LR changed the timing belt change to 7 years or 112000 miles Matt.
Do a video on these ingenium engine I have heard so many horror stories but I feel like your often the voice of reason with fear
wish land rovers were made by toyota ... i love them but i cannot afford to take care of them breaking every other month
@@bck0001 BMW starved Rover of investment, failed to update any of the cars, kept the new Mini which was almost fully developed and copied all the Land Rover 4x4 systems before selling that onto Ford. It was a straight forward asset strip, done by a company which has lower moral standards than an alley cat.
They are called Toyota Land Cruiser
@@SleepyGarfield73 I think youll find the preferred staff cars were Mercedes. BMW made some cracking engines though which powered the Fw190, one of the best fighter planes ever built. But I take your point, Honda or Toyota would have been better in the long run.😂
Matt I saw one of these go through copart.. it was undamaged but it wasn't running. It was 17 plate. Sold for £2000 the freelander and sport with the 2.2d ford/psa engine is bullet proof
I'd have bid £1000 and chanced being bitten....
@@Brian-om2hh you wouldn't of won it at £1000 it sold for 200o lol
You would be thinking would it take much to put a ford ranger 2.2 in to 1 if u paid 2k spent another 5k it be worth it
Sure ford dropped the 2.2 went to the 2ltr and its a crock alot of ford garages here in ireland pushed the 3.2 because the 2ltr problems peugeot even dropped the 2lr in the boxer and went back to a 2.2
@@noelcahill6707 I don't know which engine it was. I'm gonna guess it was the ingenium engine and that's probably why it isn't running lol
Nice car that Matt. Although it's only a single electric towbar set up, it might be a caravan 13 pin socket so it might have towed one in the past.
Yes brov, hope you're all good...hey you did good 👍, with the disco....looks proper nice....Great vlog once again, and thanks....respect....
Very nice motor. With proper servicing and care it will go on for many years
I have a Disco Sport. Lots of issues with the DPF, so paid £2.2K to get it replaced. All good now and a lovely car to drive. Not bad on fuel either when driven like an old man.
Hi Matt great video as always 😊 being a land rover owner myself with discovery sport 2019 se tech model ( I'll get ready for the negative feedback) I had a freelander 2 for 9 years gave sterling service absolutely brilliant loved it they are very good. So I can relate to your enthusiasm regarding early discovery sports having older freelander 2 engine and gearbox built like a tank 😊😊. Also your recommendation to people to buy a freelander 2 you get a brilliant car for your money 😀😀😉😉
I do love your videos ...the driving segments are great, reminds me of someone!
The moments you are approaching those cars the first time is like watching unboxing videos. Eager to see the next Matt, thanks…
I like mine and just done a land rover experience, very impressive performance
I parked next to an 18 Velar yesterday which was ticking over. I don't know what engine it had, but it sounded like a cement mixer full of cement and gravel and no water. TBH it didn't sound long for this world.
Can't have this matt where is the I've massively overspent gone but in all honesty lovely buy & perfect on budget doing well so far this year with the under budget vs I've massively overspent keep up the great content 👏
Great find at bargain price. I always ruled out the 2.2 engine and manual box in favour of the 2.0 auto. However, I will now reconsider as I'm looking for a big boot to accommodate the dogs..
Hi matt, really good to see you get a plum for a change. I did miss your ive massively over spent catchphrase, though. Really enjoying your channel.
Mark
Nice review as always.😃 In Norway they have redused the cambelt service from 10 to 7 years do to a bad cambelt tensioner, espesially on the sd4(190)hp engine.?
Nice to see a RR looking so good after 8-9 years. Also worth noting that the 2.2 is the engine to go for and not the 2.0 Igenium lump....which does not fit it's name!
Well done, Matt. What a lovely car.
Absolutely love this car, I was (literally) born in the back of one of these on the motorway 😂 I'd love one just for memories and I know they are brilliant.
What a decent, lovely car! 😍I thought you would've kept it to add to your personal collection. The stomach rumbles - I thought it was a thunder 😂😂 Enjoy your weekend as well and don't work too much
Hi Matt great video as ever . Lets hope its a quick turn around engine sounded sweet
1800 rpm at 120 kmh giving me 12.8 km/l
What more do you want from a classy 4x4!
Insurance costs for keyless ignition Land Rovers have increased, though not by as much as the press will have one believe.
I've just re-insured my Range Rover Vogue V8 diesel for less than it costs to tax it.
Use a Faraday pouch for your fob & it won't get nicked.
Matt regarding the tow bar, for the last few years all caravans have been single electric.
Enjoyable video. I am not familiar with these cars. Good to see Matt having a stressless experience and hopefully a profitable one
Looking forward to the Kia Soul EV review, Matt. I bought GF one, and she sold it the next day!
Love your channel mate, most down to earth car guy on UA-cam, 10/10. Please bring back the old intro music though :( this new one just sounds a little bit off/distorted.
Great video HPA, very nice car,and extremely well looked after, well done matt👌👍😀
Your jumper is really nice and the colour really suits you.
Steady on Matt will start vlogging clothes soon
Don’t give me ideas
Love the colour of the steering wheel, really brings out your eyes.
He'll massively overspend on his t shirts.
Would be better if it was blue
Whoever traded it in can't have done their research but happy days for Matt!
Hi Matt. , Well Done, for change ,,, you are making good profit. I can't believe how low car prices in the UK, too bad the export market is very limited ,,, good luck in your future ventures. Imad
nice car great vid matt, bet you dont have that on your forecourt more than a week. i had a disco sport p300e which was a 50 k car yours looks miles better vfm.
