We need to meet jimmy the magician, the hero of the motor trade
I think the guys at the car wash deserve some free advertising as well 😁
And that wheel place in breadbury
@@steelcity791 Yeah for 70 quid they do a whole lot I gotta say
The fingernail that measures tyre tread depth
I see your weird eclectic collection and raise you mine . My oriental garden , a kia sportage mild hybrid, Rav4 , and the two cars they were bought to replace the 180k from new 2.0 dci Qashqai and the E46 m coupe for a bit of panache 😉
Thanks for having us on the channel again. Really enjoyed this one, it was well worth saving.
Thanks again! I appreciate it
Subscribed to your channel. I always enjoy watching maintenance videos. Thanks Matt for your video & the link 👍
hope you gave him a fair price for repairs, you don't get promoted like this every day 😄
@@paccioticertainly did.
I must say the bill was way less than I thought for all what has been done on the car even with a gearbox service. My guess was near £2000 like 1750-1800 for all the work.
I live in Jakarta and the MLs I see in here are mostly ML320. Once or twice seen a 430 but not the 500 yet.
Thank you for including the mechanic part! It is so cool to see them explain/work on the car. It's a really good addition to the episode. Please bring in Jimmy the Magician, we need an apearence from him =)
And even better when someone else picks up the bill!!! 😊
..
Do you know Jesus Christ can set you free from sins and save you from hell today

Today is the day of salvation come to the loving savior Today repent and do not go to hell

Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today
Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Jesus
Love the summary with the mechanic for these special ones.
Yup it completes the video for sure.
"Hey Matt, I have a low mileage 5L V8..."
"I'm on my way" 😊
This is the best kind of the videos on this channel: 1. getting a beat car 2. getting it fixed and document the process and 3. showing the final package.
Enjoyed the conversation with the mechanic, seems to know his stuff, the English accent always magnifies the professionalism. I think there’s something inside you wanting to keep her.
You'd be surprised how many people in England have an English accent.
I had an ML in 2010 for a couple of years from new. Absolutely loved her. Quite envious of this one. Well worth your time giving her some TLC. A V8 too….. Well done.
Will you do a vid with your "Jimmy the Magician"? I'd like to see him work considering your regular praises of his work...
I don’t know about the looks of this car. I feel like it’s a face only a mother can love, oh and you Matt.
😂
😂😂😂
😂😂
😆😆😆😆
That ML is one of my favourite old mercs for some odd reason. I just love their looks
Suggestion: Road trip to the Mercedes museum and factory in Stuttgart? Quick blast down the autobahn in a 5.0L Merc would also be fun. Thanks for the video.
2 reasons i love this car
1. My dad ownes one in black
2. In my favourite tv show The Wire, this ML was the drug kingpin Avon barksdale's car and it was used alot
Greatest show ever
On Veronica mars duncan Kane had two one of the is generation and in the later episodes one of the next generation
A man of supreme taste. Congratulations.
@@FTFLCYsame my dad has one, I have w166 but love driving w163 on off-road it is a proper body on frame truck
We follow SPR, and it's great to see the start of the journey for the ML, to then going to Sam's to get serviced and fine tweeks running sweet, we are now subscribed hopfully to see whats next great videos by you and Sam 👌
That mechanic is your Golden Goose Matt, laid back, confident and after watching the ML service video,he is on top of his game. Would be a Great format to your channel to do 3 part vids, your "I Bought","The Fix","The Body Detail". Keep em coming, best stuff on UA-cam
Wasn't surprised to hear that you are keeping this one to add to your collection.
Can't wait for the next video on this to see the transformation on the paint and of the inside.
Keep up the good work.
Great video - watched the SPR autos video just before this. Combination of the two was really interesting. Thanks for uploading: I’d be interested to the what it looks like when paint etc is all done!
The Mercedes service engineer made a great point about how ignoring services and doing every 10,000 miles on a low mileage older car isn't the best way to go.service every two years is best.
Not true and it does not matter. I do mine every 5000 but can sometimes take four yrs for that and my old vehiccles all run well
You can almost do it instinctively when you don’t do many miles. ‘Every once in a while’ kind of thing.
Although it isn’t expensive or hard to ask a mechanic to drop the oil, fill with new and change a few filters, is it?
When i first saw this I was like, Matt, what have you got us into, now i want this! Lol😂😂
I've always had soft spot for the ML so it's not just you Matt. I've always liked the look of them. I live in Cape Town and my neighbour down the road has two of them, one with the rear wheel carrier and one without. They are becoming classics and are well worth keeping them on the road. Being in a warm dry country without salted roads, most cars here don't rust. I'm glad you've saved this one. Too many cars are being scrapped these days. You're fast becoming the patron saint of saving great cars. Keep doing what you're doing. Your vids are always fun and interesting.
I miss my old ML as it was like a comfy old pair of slippers with the electric heated seats but rust killed it in the end. It was a lockdown infill after leased golf r went back. JUst dont take those cill covers off, glue the a pillar fabric, watch out for the thermostat and leave the cigarette lighter and armrest sliding covers well alone! If you need a parcel shelf ive still got one that colour in the garage!
Thats such a Minter!
Love them, they were revolutionary when they came out, as well as the E53 X5!
Great video and work as always Matt! :D
Loving the explanation of the work done by spr autos, please do this in future vids 🙏
What a sweet old thing! So happy you got your hands on it just in time! I do hope you'll keep it in your collection as well. 👍🤠
It's not a car I could love, but I love the vid. Especially good to get the direct input from Sam on what they found. Another fascinating vid, Matt. Thanks!
Vince
I've always loved these. My dad had a ML55 AMG for a while. That thing could shift! Was a bit juicy on the fuel though, but it looked great too! Keep her, Mat, not many about these days! John from London
I’ve owned a ML430 for about five years now and I could do with having some bodywork done now too, it’s done 90k miles and I service it myself every year, I’m considering changing it for a L322 4.4 Range Rover but it’s still a great little truck that I’ve grown fond of! Sometimes better the devil you know than the one you don’t! Great video as always mate! Best wishes 👍🏻😎
Great video Matt. Really enjoyed the bits with the engineer explaining the work that had been done
I liked this video. Good idea to add the chat with the mechanic. Will get even smoother if you do more of them.
You always do a beautiful job reconditioning these vehicles. That's a beautiful, low mileage, rare (at least these days) first Gen ML. I always love your content; and, commitment to selling quality cars, Matt
Fascinating video, thoroughly enjoyed!
Love the videos man!😊
Great video Matt! Rear seat cam a welcome addition! 👌
Great vid. I'm looking forward to future ones on this car, which I love.
Another great video! Nice Mercedes and well worth keeping on the road!
You’re not the only one who loves them, I do too.
The thing I love is it’s a AMG - but more practical and comfortable to use. I suggest a road trip to Wales, blasting that engine up and down the valleys with mountains in the background, maybe a bit of light off road driving.
Love the videos Matt, and how you save these old cars just cause you like them. 👌🏻
Glad it’s a keeper Matt!
I’ve always thought they were undervalued but kinda cool! Can’t wait to see it once it’s done!👍👏👏👏❤️
Fantastic value from your SPR Autos for all that work! Greta job
Matt is such a geek for a used car dealer
You are not alone; always liked the MLs - nice one - can't wait for the final video
Really excellent video again, what a lovely thing that wagon is! I thought I liked the derv one from a few months ago, but a big V8 with no miles, very splendid indeed!
Excellent, enjoy the complete journey, thanks
Really enjoyed this episode and it’s great to see another car not gone to the scrap yard.
I’ve just given my Mums 2005 Citroen c1 to a family member to start them off with their driving career.
Serviced every year and cleaned and loved it for mum and also when she passed away, I took it onboard as well as a 2nd car.
People said get rid of it, scrap it. But to me I see that the car has life and still love and driving to give.
We are too much of a society to just get rid of things and new cars have a different feeling of driving to older cars. The smells, sounds and being able to actually fix older cars also gives you a buzz. No fancy electronics. Although I also love my new car and not having to get dirty any more lol.
Keep the videos coming and cars driving 👍.
Love the Mercedes ML, Ive got the final version 2015 ML W166 & its been superb over the last 5x years, Great video Matt !
I’m with u mate, have always loved these. The chrome wheel carrier back then was so brash n gangster. No other manufacturers came close to it. Mates parents had a ML320 in a darkish green. I’d love one as a dedicated winter hack👌🏻 very rarely seen them out in the wild as well
Cars like that dont get old Matt! Im glad you saved it and i see it as one of yours , ah you just said your keeping it as i type ! Good decision , great find ! ❤
Really enjoyed this one! Can’t wait to see the big reveal. 😃👍🏻
Very cool car!! Although I can only see one out come and it’s “ you guessed it, I’ve massively overspent” aha on a real love everything you do mate ❤
I love the old ml's cracking 90,s 4x4
I had one of these and loved it, it’s very capable.
And this has the full command module - nice
I really like the run down on work! Subscribed to SPR 👍 drive that one around Andalucía great place great roads 👍👍
11:58
Was nice of the guy here to walk you around and explain what he done to the car, very good. 👍
Very good video Matt good work
Love people who give a car a 2nd chance! Awesome content.
'Apologies if this isn't riveting viewing' ... Matt - your videos are never riveting viewing. It's just you, looking around an old banger you bought for £500. But we still love watching them!
I just knew you couldn’t help yourself. However that’s just the charm of something you have a deep passion for . So enjoy it for years to come Matt !😊
A very enjoyable video... Looking forward to the bodywork part being completed...
I'm not a massive fan but tidied up and without the spare wheel on the rear, I could like it a lot more...
Glad you're keeping it. I was once lucky enough to spend an afternoon with an ML55 (very little difference in the real world) and I truly felt like king of the road. The early models are definitely the best looking. The later versions looked overly fussy and lumpen by comparison.
I love the mechanic interview part, would absolutely adore if you could try to fit it in as often as you can (I understand it can't be done every time since, time and all.)
Brilliant video, Matt. 5L!!!! You'd want to be a millionaire to tax, insure, and keep it filled with fuel in Ireland! I actually always liked the shape, too. Really looking forward to the reveal when the paintwork etc is done. Keep these vids coming, please and thank you. 😊
Liked the fill in from SPR, good content.
will be great to see the outcome of this car... I absolutely love this era of ML... especially the very rare ML500
My wife had one of those and she loved it. ML320, same color combo. Bought it new in 2000
Very nice to see the format switched up. We need that variation
Another excellent video story of great intrest. Well Matt before we retired to Norway we lived in Kent and a number of our friends and neighbours drove the M.L.often saying it was one of the only 7 seater estate cars. Anyway going on a bit but just to mention we drove to Norby shopping centre and remembered when we spoke last you spent a great summer working with your father on that project . 21:06
Great video Matt and great car - at 45k definitely a keeper - love the rear rear pop out windows! I have a W164 on a 55 plate, to get the lower tax rate, at 132k looks good in black and like yours has a light grey leather interior in good condition so I think yours will clean up really well. I was going to change it as the timing chain needed replacing but the trade in value was £750 - so have had that work done at £900 and now it's good apparently for another 130k - it'll outlive me 🙂🙂😞
I always loved these!
Really liked the mechanic interface as it adds a lot to the episode.
I love your passion for these cheap luxury vehicles Matt.
Nice to see you still have appreciation for the older motors.I still run a 2008 Volvo V50 1.8 petrol. As long as you look after them and serviced regularly they should just keep on going.
Read this and couldn't remember commenting on this video already. Then realised it wasn't me - just another guy who still runs a 2008 Volvo V50 1.8 petrol!
Wise beyond your years and still looking young. Like your Channel. Keep the videos going
Glad you're keeping it Matt, at least it will be looked after and deservedly so, nice car
Great car and the best engine indeed 👍 Traded and sold loads of these W163 in my motor trade career before retiring and I still love them. Top content Matt 👍
Used SPR because of your channel great set of guys went above and beyond for my e class.
I just bought a 2000 430 in NZL ,not one warning light on everything works, interior mint,AC cold, cannot belive how good the thing goes offrd, some Cooper mud tyres going on and the factory enormous muffler is going and a stainless snorkel..!
I have the 430 too, it’s a great truck! A little thirsty but that’s to be expected with an old 4x4 4.3 V8…. I hope you enjoy yours best wishes mate 👍🏻😎
What a classic! Would be good to see more video collaborations on the I Bought A Cheap series!
You are a very respectful young man!! Not wanting to be disrespectful to the owner by filming on his drive. So very considerate. Fair play to you
He is a very respectful guy for sure
Nice shout out for Asturias, where I live! Thanks
we had one as our family car for years and we loved it... we had the 2.7cdi with extra seats - super handy, not bad mpg, very good on a long run and was actuallly super reliable... yeah a very underated car albeit with ladder chasis handling was slightly agircultural but great turning circle
Matt's mechanic is official secrets act. Tameside valeting are the work speaks for us, you don't need to see us. Jimmy the magician is Stig. SPR are brilliant. This is why we love this channel
One of my favourite motors, no too many around these days. Thanks Mat
Nice purchase and great little project 👍🏼
Well worth investing in matt once the paintwork is done get it ceramic coated wheels done it will look stunning as I know you won't skimp on it really look forward to the follow up matt and can't wait for your update on your 07 4.2tdi a8 audi well done matt 👍
We're all different, that is the wonderful thing about cars. That motor screams suburban mum on the school run to me (in fairness it probably was used to transport the little Ruperts), but to the next man it is "Look at me, cool dude right?".
Keep them coming pal.😉
Only you could get excited about a car like that Matt. You make all us subscribers grin keep it up .
Its almost a classic with a V8, Dont build them like that now. Extremely robust thing.
great vid matt and needs preserving dont forget the underseal. road trip to ALGARVE portugal, never been always wanted to go but too old now.
This old ML gem brings back some great memories from Hungary. I still remember how comfortable are these SUVs. I used to have 3 jobs there, and one of my task was to help to my car technician friends to understand the live data stream from the ECU and gearbox controller module. I was sitting on the back seat with a laptop, watching the valves pressure changes somewhere deep in the automatic gearbox, and just enjoying the ride. I never was brave enough to buy an ML to myself, but I admire those low mileage cars which survived the crusher. Great cars, when they serviced regularly 😎
Fantastic Matt, enjoyed that for obvious reasons.
Still don't like the rear wheel carrier, but that's just me.
Mine was 54k when I bought it to replace the ML430, and totally over serviced - every year (about every 1500 miles!), so it was a lucky find.
I also was missing the insert for the footrest....couldn't find one in Java that was not broken....finally bought a stainless steel one on Ebay made by someone on the Isle of Wight. Perfect
Glad you are keeping it.....brilliant wafter with a split personality over 3,000rpm!
Glad your keeping it, I was hoping you were going to say that. It's kind of one of those opportunities where if you sold it and wanted another one good luck finding one as good.
Another great video Matt. Definitely a car to keep and not sell. I think a road trip to Lands End would be interesting.
Also, what Audi are you driving at the start of video, please?
Cracking video, looking forward to seeing the follow up video. What happened to the original number plates...?
hi matt love the old merc i would 100% be getting it sorted will be such a lovely old thing to own , fantastic
I love the W163 MLs. Here in France there's loads of the 4.0 litre diesel V8 models - I am sorely tempted, but know nothing about these engines. Your ML500 looks like a real keeper!
Congrats on the new car. You're not the only one who loves this era of cars
Lot of car for a grand. Love to have it in my runway. Love your videos mate . Keep them coming. Cheers.
So good to see classics and so many interesting cars being given the royal treatment and a second life. Yes, sometimes from the trash can. From abroad I do see it sometimes going to extremes as ten to twenty-year-old cars are expected to be in mint condition by the UK driver. Cheers and best wishes, keep it up!
Cracking stuff 👍🏻
I was actually waiting for the time you get one to keep, the other 3 videos of MLs you did weren't enough ML content!
The 'Holy Trinity' of 4/6/8 cylinder Merc engines were the M111 M112 and M113. The absolute peak of Mercedes engines and the AMG stuff was equally as good. It couldn't last and the replacement M271 272 and 273 are beset with expensive problems.
