    I love the look of these contemporary starcasters, but the muddy stock pickups leave something to be desired. Amazing what pickup swaps will do. Excellent video

    When I first saw that contemporary Starcaster with the active PUs I didn't quite understand that concept. Second thought: This screams for fishman fluence PUs!
    Man, you did it just the way I would've done it. Now it all makes sense. Great guitar, sounds amazing! Wouldn't have expected it to handle higain that good.
    Thanks for demoing this mod. Great work.

    Nice job man! I just recently also installed the Abasi Signature set in my Les Paul Tribute 2018 gold top. I think it was a really good choice because, the clean tones you get with these pickups are just out of this world!

    Man, you really demo everything I'm looking at. Its really cool.
    Cut it short, I've got Fishman Moderns. They are way way too dark for me (got them in a guitar for a steal but I'm not a metal player). I'm trying to decide on a different Fishman set of pickups to act as an "all around" pickup; gives good cleans like a strat but can be a humbucker when needed. Basically, I want a set that I can use as I learn how to play guitar and get a lot of different voices so when I go deeper, I can explore more specific sounds in later guitars.
    Between this or the classic, which do think gives better clean tones to your ears? Any other pickup I should consider from Fishman if I'm looking for something thats more strat like but can be a regular humbucker?

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
      @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear  3 роки тому +5

      My recommendation would be the classic set. They sound fantastic split and in full humbucking mode. You would never have to replace them later on either. They might be my personal favorite Fishman set.

      You could totally put EMG's in this! Though I do enjoy EMG's, I find that they are not very versatile. They do metal really really good, but not so much on cleaner tones or low gain tones. I'm still finding the Fishman Fluence series, to be my preferred pickups.

    Awesome Review! Did you use the abasis in different guitars? Did they sound the same in all or is still uniqueness to the sound in each different guitar? I think the only 2 things that dont pull the trigger for the abasi atm are my worries for an active like compression ( bcause i rly rly hate it on the current Emgs 808x) and the possibility to lose uniqueness of the sound compared to passives. Thats why i'm also looking for the a reyes review ( all passive or coil modes) which suprisingly isnt there anywhere yet (neither video or text) but then again idk how active the Fluences rly sound.
    Sorry for asking these annoying questions, the pickups i'm looking ( either abasi ,reyes Fluence or the alpha/omega or pegasus/sentinent combo are all pretty expensive and i wanna avoid a bad decision there.

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
      @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear  3 роки тому +1

      I've only used the Abasi's in the Starcaster... But, I will say that none of the Fishman pickups I've used, have that "EMG" active compression. I Have EMG's in my Wylde Audio guitar and they definitely don't sound as good as the Fishmans, IMHO. I've also not tried the Reyes set yet. Personally, I'd get fishman's over Duncan's too. Thats just me though. :)
