Being a gearhead myself, I truely love seeing bands like animals and Periphery so in tune with their gear and the exact specs of everything. I’m a drummer so I know all the ins and outs about drums and not so much about guitar but learned a lot just listening to tosin and misha speak of their gear. But Garstka and halpern are both super in tune with their drums and gear as well. They each know the exact specs of their shells, what kinda shells, the hardware technology and the cymbals they pick out is specific for exactly what they want and need in this music. You will be surprised how many bands don’t know shit about their gear and just play whatever is in front of them and if someone asks what gear they are using they just take a guess and try to read it right off the gear lol. Not necessarily a bad thing but love seeing musicians and bands like this who know exactly what they are talking about and these are the artists that companies love to endorse cause they are also helping sell their products. Garstka is the reason I bought tama Starclassic BB birch Bubinga hyperdrive kit with the new updated hardware brought down from the star drums and couldn’t be happier with my choice. Best sounding and looking kit I’ve ever heard or played on with the best hardware and mounting technology ever created.
Kind of interesting seeing him essentially ditch the AxeFX and Fractal for a tube amp. Not seeing many people going that way. More in the heavier genres seem to be going digital and not back to analog.
Agreed. Saw them with Periphery in Grand Rapids. I had heard the guys in Periphery say they still used amps on stage for the people in the front so I had assumed AAL did the same and that's why I was seeing amps on stage, but I had no idea that they were using them to this degree.
I think digital modeling amps are appealing for their consistency and ease to transport. Imo any guitarist would take real tube amp and big cab rigs if they could afford it. If anything, it's a sign that he's becoming big enough that he can bring what he wants.
Ben Adams the modeling thing is a huge money saver for touring musicians that pay a fortune in shipping. .that's the main draw in using Kemper and fractal. But for studio or when you want to get the better tone, there's no substitute for cranking a valve amp..

TOSIN IS A MAD SCIENTIST. I MET HIM AT A MEET AND GREET IN OAKLAND CA, A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE IS REALLY DOWN TO EARTH TOO. ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARISTS EVER.
I heard in an interview that the fractal was used out of necessity when starting out and now that they have the luxury of a full setup, they're taking advantage of it.
This really makes sense. I own EVH 5150 and a 4x12 but I switched to Helix LT because everytime I go to play a gig I'm the one carrying the gear. If I had crew carrying my stuff I'd use amps and pedals.
wow, just goofing around in a cold room, amazing, I am actually afraid to listen to this band, no way I can play an 8 string my fingers are too short, look at Hendrix and Vai's hands, no amount of practice can give you that edge. Tosin has to be one of the most innovative and amazingly different guitarists on the planet. I love the wicked stuff mid way with the Strymons gesssshh how does he do that complex stuff???
After watching this Rig Rundown and the one they did with Chon, I am slowly falling in love with Ibanez's clean tones. The highs are bright, the lows are warm, it's just great. Also, every single time Tosin started demoing a new distortion/drive pedal, my heart melted. He gets some of the best metal tones I've ever heard!
Tosin is definitely an innovator on guitar, his playing blows my mind. I've been trying out high gain heads lately and ended up going back to my OD pedal in front of a clean tube amp. Watching Tosin's part of this video confirms makes me feel that my preference for this type of set up is right, even if hoards of guitarists try to tell me otherwise.
I'll be honest...as much as I love the dirty channel on my Dual Rec, I often prefer pedals. There's just something about them that seems to work better for me.

@@johannrajan3279 It's Obzen. Listen from 3:02. I agree that "Our Rage Won't Die" sounds similar.
TOSIN IS A MAD SCIENTIST. I MET HIM AT A MEET AND GREET IN OAKLAND CA, A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE IS REALLY DOWN TO EARTH TOO. ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARISTS EVER.
Interesting to see Tosin and Misha abandoning Axe FX II for traditional tube amps when they were the main ambassadors for Fractal for many years.
Way to copy the comment before yours.
you new to consider the money that comes by being sponsor to..
Misha is still using Axe fx on tour. Everyone in Periphery is
Javier and Tosin are equally talented, kind of insane where a band can exist with two monster players
"You wanna hear how well it's working?" LMAO
That was great!
wow, just goofing around in a cold room, amazing, I am actually afraid to listen to this band, no way I can play an 8 string my fingers are too short, look at Hendrix and Vai's hands, no amount of practice can give you that edge. Tosin has to be one of the most innovative and amazingly different guitarists on the planet. I love the wicked stuff mid way with the Strymons gesssshh how does he do that complex stuff???
"That's a pretty thicc, uhh... dank little pick you got there!"

What are you saying?
Ron Padgett im sorry sir Y O U A R E D A N K E N O U G H
I think he was trying to play along with Tosin saying "dope". Cause weed is tight, maaaaan.
then quickly changes the subject to pedals 😂
I love that he couldn't help but ask about the thump technique. Its such an alien sound.
20:36 REEEEETURN TO THE EARTH, just kidding with that chord.
MatheusWallace ah totally does sound like it haha
hahaha that's what I thought he was about to play
What are you talking about?
CONTORTIONIST HYYYYYYYYYPE
Vvallace the contortionist is one of the greatest bands ever
Even if you don’t really like his music this man is genius
Need a Parkway Drive rundown, their tones have always been gnarly
@@JcastroCFH their tones were gnarly when we were 13. After Horizons, the tone went down hill af
Surprised at how cool that Friedman OD sounded on Tosin's slap tone. Very cool!
I just discovered these guys literally two days ago! Sick stuff

Javier's strat is the most wild guitar I've seen so far
Tosin is definitely an innovator on guitar, his playing blows my mind. I've been trying out high gain heads lately and ended up going back to my OD pedal in front of a clean tube amp. Watching Tosin's part of this video confirms makes me feel that my preference for this type of set up is right, even if hoards of guitarists try to tell me otherwise.
That which sounds best to YOU, is the ONLY thing that matters.
I'll be honest...as much as I love the dirty channel on my Dual Rec, I often prefer pedals. There's just something about them that seems to work better for me.
Evh 515Olll with effects pedals is all you need.
Strandbergs are amazing. They are the most comfortable guitars I've ever played, and ergonomically perfect.
