The only thing in this video that was a surprise to me was Incas doing about equally well against Paladins as Aztecs. This is one of those cases where one single point of melee armor makes all the difference, since each eagle will survive one extra hit (14 damage on Incas vs 15 damage on every other eagle) and that compensates for the damage. Nothing really compensates for having 66% more HP, because that's ridiculous, but I knew that before I watched the video. You can't take fights against these units because they outspeed anything that can actually kill them, and anything that can run away from them has to because these things murder them. Plumes are just so efficient that it's hard to justify using a lot of them even if they are busted.
The reason why teutonic knights have so low speed is, because they mostly just chilling on top of the comparison line up. This way they don't move so much around.
@CommandoDude they are crazy against thrash as well as any melee unit(except the obvious-samurai, jaguar warrior). I mean they are great against goths(unless thegoths go for hand canoneers(I generally mix hc if I go against teutons with goths)

Aztecs are one of my favorite civilizations, so it's nice to see that eagle warriors work well for them, especially considering my favorite strategy revolves around them. It rarely works against actual players, but most of the games I play are against 6 or 7 standard computers. I make a huge army of eagle warriors mixed in with a couple of jaguar warriors to deal with infantry, and park them right outside someone's base, do some raiding on the outskirts, and generally keep their army busy. Then I make 5 petards and walk them right up to the town center. It blows up and the computer resigns. It feels great, even if it's not really practical for competitive play
You should do a video about Eagle Warriors and their interactions with monks, arrows and cavalry. Compare them to cavalry in cost and effectiveness against the different unit types. That would be awesome.

Hard to make a ranking because unique units are some kind of specialists. For example: Tarkans (4 base pierce armor) are good against archers but loose against pikes. Cataphracts are good against pikes but struggle against massed archers because they have only 1 pierce armor (less than knights or scouts). Catas attack very fast, Tarkans relatively slow. Both Elite versions have 150hp but Huns get the bloodlines upgrade and Blast Furnace while Byzantines will lack both. You would never make Tarkans to fight pikes and Cataphracts to fight archers that's why it's hard to compare them.

Mayans so have a resource bonus meaning that they will be able to feild more of their strong Eagles in the late game much easier. This meand they'll last even longer per unit and they'll save you the gold of replacing them. Truly a useful unit for Mayan players
One should not forget that Mayans might have the best eagle warrior, but their special technology only applies to eagle warriors in the first place, while the Inca's does also benefit their two unique units and Aztechs bolster their whole infantry. In that perspective the el dorado tech should have the greatest impact on the eagle warrior's performance, as it affects the smallest amount of units.
I hate to say it, but it's probably Aztecs who would take that fight against Monks. Against siege I would easily take Mayans over them though since not dying to a single Siege Onager shot or surviving longer against Scorpions is huge.
hey Sotl, when definitive addition comes out (not sure when it comes out) you should make a definitive addition version of your intro, if its even possible to do. would be pretty neat.
Spirit, can you do something on bombard towers? I always hear they are OP but never seem to build them myself. Your videos have helped me see the advantage of units in the past, so how about it, want to give it a go?
As those civilizations have no stable and knights, they have to rely on eagle warriors to do the job that knights did for other civilizations, but when scouting the map the other civilizations benefit with pure food cavalry that is not much when it dies while the aztecs, mayans, and incas need to spend gold on a unit just to scout the map and may need to rely on spearmen and skirmishers to fulfil that role.

Not to mention that having such high HP means that it's worthwhile to bring a few monks to heal them up when they are out of combat.
Not that it matters much, but arn't eagles also anti monk and siege?
How do they perform there? (Most likely Mayans win again)
Hans Xaver I think Aztecs will be the best if you don't get hit by the siege, since they take them out faster...
I hate to say it, but it's probably Aztecs who would take that fight against Monks.
Against siege I would easily take Mayans over them though since not dying to a single Siege Onager shot or surviving longer against Scorpions is huge.
Would you be willing to consider doing a video comparing the Longbowmen, Jannissary, and Handconneer?
SoL, you have made a video on craziest techs in x256, but what is the best civ for no cap?
hey Sotl, when definitive addition comes out (not sure when it comes out) you should make a definitive addition version of your intro, if its even possible to do. would be pretty neat.
Hi Spirit Of The Law, can you make a video about Parthian Tactics?
Spirit, can you do something on bombard towers? I always hear they are OP but never seem to build them myself. Your videos have helped me see the advantage of units in the past, so how about it, want to give it a go?
As those civilizations have no stable and knights, they have to rely on eagle warriors to do the job that knights did for other civilizations, but when scouting the map the other civilizations benefit with pure food cavalry that is not much when it dies while the aztecs, mayans, and incas need to spend gold on a unit just to scout the map and may need to rely on spearmen and skirmishers to fulfil that role.
Eagle warriors: *screaming and running towards me*
Me: (pull out a desert eagle) parry this you filthy casul
Incan elite eagle warrior: *laughs in pierce armor*
This inforrmation would be very useful...
If I played AOE2 at all, lol.
The text on the video makes it not-subtitle friendly
Awesome video once again. I am still waiting on the Herbal Medicine video tho
