A review with pros and cons from someone who actually uses the thing. Was a fan from your surge video, it was what helped make up my mind to buy it. To someone new to this multitool scene, your videos were extremely helpful, thanks for making them.
You're very welcome, I appreciate the compliment. I really appreciate that you take the time to watch my videos as well. I hope my perspective can help others to choose the multi tool that best works for them as well.
I couldn't agree more. Very informative and honest. I've really enjoyed your videos, also as a newbie to multitools. I get excited when I see that you've posted a new video
As someone who carries both the second gen Wave for work a wave plus for EDC, and the surge for motorcycle and camping, I had to agree on every point you made in this video. Thanks for posting.
My dad got the original PST in 1983 when I was born and it has survived 36 years including several that I stole it as a teen and bombed around the bush fishing hunting quadding, dirt bikes, snowmobiling, all the usual thrashing. Still looks great today and has been a lifesaver!
The scissor feature comes in handy, especially during the times I see a gray nose hair growing out, just give me a mirror, some light, and a Leathermen multi tool with scissors, and I'm good to go. You never know if you're going to be in the presence of a beautiful lady.
The Wave + has a lot of capabilities and one I was pleasently surprised I discovered. I use this tool at work and wear it on my belt so it is handy at all times but in my trade as an aircraft mechanic we have to replace these items in the cockpit called Korrey switches. Normally you'd have to go grab a set of jeweler's screwdrivers to replace these, not anymore. ;) The eyeglass screwdriver on the Wave works and that's great. It saves a trip down the stairs and to grab your tool bag so that is great! especially if your up in a 747 or 767. It's a nice thing to have that capability. Love watching your videos especially since I'm a bit of a blade/multitool addict ;) I'm thinking of upgrading to the Surge though for it's other capabilities but it doesn't have the jeweler's driver on it. That's kind of a bummer ;( We'll see. Thanks again, I'll keep watching and recommending your videos.
My military issued Wave from 2000 is still being worked almost daily. It stays in my truck. The lack of locks on the interior tools was my only real complaint I have. I just purchased a Wave+ and the bit sets to keep on my person. I have already used it several times and it's only been a couple of days. Great video.
Great videos and content by someone who actually uses his tools. I own a wave, a wave plus, rebar, fuse, squirt PS4, MUT, and a charge plus ha all I need is a surge that you speak so highly of and a raptor and I should be set!
Found your channel several months ago. My EDC was the Leatherman Supertool 300. First Leatherman I purchased was the Wave first Generation. I switched my EDC to the Wave now that I'm working in an office and always need my Leatherman. From your reviews, I've upgraded to the Leatherman Wave +. I do love having my Supertool 300 as well and keep that in my gear bag. Your reviews are awesome and helpful in deciding what to buy. Been with Leatherman since I got the wave and I'm brand loyal to them. Thinking about now buying the Leatherman Surge as well from your reviews. I do like having all 4 tools like the Wave and Supertool. But I do like the sizzor on the Surge. And the option to add different blades. Thank you for your reviews and research as well as your experience using them. I'll let you know when I purchase the Surge. Looking next month to purchasing that one. Thanks again..
I love your channel. I agree with you on the eye glass tool. I would remove it and modify it to be used on the bit exchanger. I would put an awl in its place. I would then remove the Wave scissors and switch them with the Wingman scissors.
Your reviews are on point. Ugh... you're going to send me broke if I keep watching them. At the end of your videos, I just want that multitool even though I have no need for them!
That little micro screwdriver was a godsend in Afgahn. Did come across small screws glasses screws often. Always made sure my screws were tight in my glasses
I dont carry my WAVE+ that often, but its a fantastic multi tool for a variety of reasons. The WAVE+ is a versatile tool that appeals to a wide variety of people/professions. The SURGE is my EDC multitool, but the without the WAVE the SURGE would not exist. Also, the entire "FREE" series is a bit gimmicky and over priced/hyped. Great video!
love how you carried a champion for very long, only logical to end up with the surge, big and capable. I still have mine from 85 or so and it still has a place on my desk. What also changed the game a year before the wave came out was the swisstool, all tools accessible from the outside, single deployment without clumping, way superior craftsmanship. The design hasnt changed much since that, it was good to begin with. Only thing i wish it had was bigger, replacable cutters and more of the modularity/user servicable features of the wave/surge.
Even in 2022, the wave + is a very good multitool. Solid design and tools. Recently I found another tool, the Leatherman Rebar, very good price. But the leather sheat has some scratches, and the box was damaged. But actually the Rebar is not bad, very good selection of tools. But the wave is my favorite with the external tools. Very good video, you are very calm explaining every aspect. 👍👍👍
Concise and to the point, brilliant tool review thanks for that. Just lost my wave plus yesterday I'm as sick as a dog about it. I was using a using Leatherman pouch clip came undone I'm in agriculture. Maybe next vid on the pouches. Thanks.
Great video and review bud. I never will pass up a good vid on a Leatherman. I too am dumbfounded at how they can keep that real estate using the eyeglass screwdrivers. An awl is definitely one of the things I agree on with you as I want one in all of my multitools. Another approach would be for them to create an awl/reamer that fit into the bit exchanger. I'd be satisfied even with that. I absolutely love my surge but I actually do like to pocket carry it sometimes which then I have to find a place to carry the file or saw. Seems there is no perfect solution but it always keeps up being creative to carry what we need. I am of the thought process that they don't really want to satisfy us. That's why we all own so many of these damn things. Lol.
Well first of all, thank you for watching. I tend to agree with you. I think they sometimes try to create the almost perfect multi tool to keep enthusiast purchasing more and more. Honestly, from a business perspective, that’s smart. From a consumer perspective however, it leaves us longing for that ever elusive perfect multi tool. They have a tough task though. So many people have varying needs in a multi tool, it’s almost impossible to build something that appeals to every single person. Of course, I have thoughts on that as well, lol.
@@txtoolcrib You bet. I have enjoyed your multi-tool videos and will keep tuning in. I too haven't found the Free series to be something I want. Maybe in future gens but it seems cheap and not like something I want. I think as far as the Wave idea that you mentioned...I think if they charged a little extra for a 'custom tool where we could go online and check the boxes to have the wave or surge that we wanted it would be killer. I'm sure it would be 30 or so more dollars and we'd have to wait a little longer as they wouldn't be mass producing them but I think it would be a win/win. They go on about being revolutionary and they have over the years. This would be no different. They would be offering something no one else is. Just my two cents.
I agree with you completely. I would have no problem paying a premium for a Surge that would be custom suited for me. I would like to see a premium steel offering of the Surge as well. So long as the price was within reason, I would pay the extra for such a multi tool. Many people feel exactly the same way. Hopefully one day soon that will be an option.
@@txtoolcrib Agree on all of that. Keep making great reviews and it's inspiring. I need to make some videos and launch a basic channel on some things I'm interested in. I'm a videographer/cinematographer and go figure... I've never made one UA-cam vid. It's time soon. My stuff has all been travel and tv related but I find that I scour UA-cam for the content that I like. I'll be following along so keep it up.
Absolutely, and thanks for watching. I started making videos because I was fed up with people doing reviews from a survivalist aspect. I am in no way trying to ridicule anyone from that genre, I just felt that there was a lack of reviews from a tradesman aspect. I’m pretty knowledgeable when it comes to multi tools, and tools in general for that matter. I wanted to give a different perspective for people with my common interests. I think it is an excellent idea for you to get involved with making your own videos from your area of expertise. Coming from cinematography, I’m sure your videos would have a lot more flair than my humble channel. The best reviews are from people that have real life experience in what they are discussing. Best of luck!
Thank you. This is the one I carry most days away from work. I have a regular stainless version for the job site. I actually prefer the black/silver to the all black version myself.
Just love your reviews. I have purchased the Wave+, Rebar and the Supertool 300. I think I'd better stop watching your reviews. Its costing me a fortune. 😂
Most of the leatherman story move around the wave, all multitools are same with minor change, just like charge and wave are same only main blade steel on charge.great video as always..impressed with your deep knowledge..
Timeless video in 2022 just like Leatherman. I EDC a Super Tool 200 for years! (My first one may have been a non-locking Super Tool). Then I went with the Wave to Charge. This Saturday I picked up a Wave+. I do own an original and PST. I have the Super Tool 300 but can't go back to all inside tools. I do miss the straight profile and leather box sheath of the ST series. My wish list is for a black Surge as I love the idea of having replaceable metal cutting saw blades. A bonus is the diamond file comes off if you need to touch up the Surge straight blade. No matter how old my collection is, they remain 99% rust free.
Just watched your clip, i was mainly looking for peoples opinion on the wave + as i had my wave replaced by a + (awesome leatherman waranty!). I don't know if you know, you can use the bit driver part for pendular saw blades (didn't try it on my wave + but it worked well with bosch saws on my wave), also, ebay and etsy have awl/pin/pen/tweezer parts that fit in your wave instead of the belt clip :). Awesome video! thanx a lot for posting it!
I have a OG wave from 2003 that is pat pending. I used supertools daily from 1999. I was a forester then. I had a friend with a wave in 1999. The major difference was price. I broke my Leatherman supertools pretty often, but the dealer I went to would exchange them. One day in 2003 they said the supertool was discontinued. I called Leatherman and complained about the issue explaining (because of lost tools in the woods) I had bought 5 supertools and wouldn't pay the extra for a wave but needed the full function of supertool. They sent me a wave, the case was so good I never lost one again. I still have it.
Thanks for this. A good honest useful appraisal without the everytool nerdyness. I have Leatherman tools because I like the weight, feel and quality. I don’t have them for all the tools. I may use many of them but to me it doesn’t really mater. I like quality and good design. It’s a feel good useful thing. For me that’s a good enough reason to have three Leatherman’s. I have, Skeletool, sidekick and the wave+ black. Yeah I’m not a tradesman. I find the hated sunglass screwdriver tool useful when disconnecting fine cable clips connectors on musical instrument circuit boards. Also use it for glasses.
Thank you, and thank you very much for taking the time to watch my videos. There are so many different multi tools out there. I feel that there is something for everyone, in all walks of life.
Agree with all of your statements; just a thing. The free series just came out and it's completely new. The tools on the p2/p4 are ridiculous but this is just the beginning..... The main goal for Leatherman factory is to sell.... Well, they are selling tools and in some years they will come out with a new model on free platform.... If they will include bit changer and proper tools with proper length.... That will be a game changer IMHO
Good observation on moving the small screwdriver to the bit driver holder and making room for an awl. In my opinion the small screwdriver would be better suited to be moved to fit the bit extender to use separately since I find the current small screwdriver setup clumsy to use. The pliers handles keep loosening on my Wave when squeezed hard and will then fold closed before opening the plier jaws. I have adjusted them but they keep loosening. I’m hoping that switching to the Surge and carrying a small eyeglass screwdriver on my keychain will fit my needs better.
I don't need an awl on my Wave because I also carry an SAK Tinker or Super Tinker,, which have a better awl than any Leatherman...The micro screwdriver has not only saved my bacon a few times when I've had to replace an an eyeglass screw, but it also serves well as a light=duty punch. I use it more than any of the Wave's internal too's because, again, I carry a Tinker, the best multitool that nobody talks about..
Nice video overview of the Wave+. After having watched it, I believe I prefer the LM Rebar over the Wave+. I like the old school design heritage of the original PST. Plus you get the awl.
Most people who choose the Rebar over the Wave usually do so for the same reasons you mentioned, especially the awl. Both are great multi tools though. Thanks for watching.
@@blacksmith44 My knifeless Rebar has a scissors,...& an awl. I like it because it's small & makes for a good EDC. The handle edges are a little sharp on my hands, however when I'm using the pliers. The rounded edges of this Wave+ really appeals to me for this reason.
I'd love to see the following changes which would make the Wave my ONLY multitool. 1. Get rid of the eye glass tool and replace with an Awl (provide an "eyeglass" bit to go into the bit driver) 2. Instead of separate saw and file, make them just like the Surge - one spot with interchangeable standard T-shank file and saw. size them so that when either the saw blade or the file are in use, they tuck in beside the serated knife blade for storage or provide a mounting area on the side of the tool to tuck into. 3. Use the spot freed up by eliminating the saw or file for a better/bigger pair of scissors and 4. Replace the small scissors with a clam shell package opener or a Philips #2 driver.
Before I decide on Leatherman Wave I compare it to Victoniox, Gerber, SOG and even Ganzo, but when it comes to total features and especially tools arrangement, Leatherman Wave win, mine has been with me for over five years for work and play and still loving it.
Good video. I went with the Surge, cant beat the scissors or the exchangeable blades. If your diamond file is worn out, you can put in a new one n bosche t shank blades. But to each their own.
I've always felt the same way about how the eyeglass screwdriver should be added to the bit kit, and be replaced with an awl. An awl would give the Wave a near perfect tool set. Pocket clips should be on ALL pocket sized multitools.
I have a Wave A+, some mods done. To start out black cutters, 154cm blade, cut hook serrated blade, hidden lanyard loop removed, clip on the PE blade side, and Style tweezers in the clip slot on serrated blade side. The clip being swapped makes better ergos using the main blade. The tweezers are a small hot spot while it's opened. Also a PB washer on both sides of the blades, a smoother opening. My Wave A+ is now a favorite to carry.
Bought my Wave maybe 10 years ago. The steel was brittle and it kept on breaking and no i didn't use it the way you shouldn't. I gave it away and i now carry a PST.
The wave needs a hook on the serrated blade like the charge has. Makes for a great package opener. Agree on the glasses screw driver, it needs to go. Last, replace the file with the same as the surge. I have modified a big recip pruning blade to fit that. I carry it in my pack in the back country as a back up saw. I like my surge but it is just a little heavy. Good video, thanks for the info. I have told leatherman the exact same thing on using the wave as a platform. Let me order different blades for different situations.
I agree, but I doubt they will ever put that blade on the Wave. Wouldn’t sell any Charge models if they were that closely matched would be my assumption.
Good review. Subscribed. Lost my Surge recently. Set it down on truck bed and never seen again. Like the size of Surge but prefer large saw and file of Wave. Trying to decide which to buy to replace Surge.
There should be a “Build your own wave” option. Where the outside tools and housing stays but the inside may have customizable options for a couple of the tools. I love the multitool but there are a couple of tools that i really haven’t found the need to use.
I just ordered the signal. I plan on replacing the combo blade with a straight edge s30v blade. Removing the saw in place of a serrated blade. Removing the awl in place of a t shank holder so I have access to a diamond file and a better saw blade.
Hi, I’ve plunged for a Wave + and absolutely love it. I’m a bit worried about something I’ve seen around, though: that the handles loosens enough to begin closing up when you just want to open up the pliers. Have you experienced this? Is there a fix?
You could check the pivot tension on the handles, it may have loosened off a bit from use. Normally, over time the handles will loosen with use. It shouldn't be to the point that they will just fly open though. If the screw tension doesn't fix the problem, I would see about getting it warrantied.
TX Tool Crib thanks for responding! I haven’t had the problem yet, but I understand it isn’t uncommon. I’m a bit suprises that the only thing I’m missing on Wave+ is a depth gage. The ruler on the side I good, but I miss the ability to easily determine dimensions of small screws. This could be easily added to the prying bar, I think. The micro-screwdriver I don’t get much use out of so far.
It would be a good idea to laser etch a depth gauge into the large driver. A really good idea in fact. It takes nothing away from the function of the tool but adds another feature.
2010mfgc2400 Thanks for a very thorough reply. Hopefully I’ll get some use out of my Wave before this will become an issue. I’ve only had it for a few months at this point. My problem with the Free is really the tool selection, especially the inferior file and the missing bit kit ability. It is possible to argue that the Frees would be better pliers (at least for me) than the Wave, but I don’t think it delivers the same capabilities as Wave does. The Surge is too big for me unfortunately. Shouldn’t the Surge have the same issues as the Wave (assuming the designs are similar)?
The other day I found a Wave a mechanic dropped, I returned it to em. I carry a rebar or a #Gerber 600. I used to carry the original #Leatherman for years before we broke it twice.
Thank you for doing great videos, you have helped me a lot. I would like to listen your advice with one dilemma I have: I’m not a heavy user of a multitool and I’m looking for one, I’ve seen the wave and the surge both are great multitools; I thought the surge was too big for me until I saw its lenght and it wasn’t too big for my hands size, thing that surprised me. Like I said, I’m not a heavy user of a multitool and I would like to get one for using it in the woods and for occasional problems I could have, so which one would you recommend to me the wave or the surge? I’d thank you to answer this question.
This can be a difficult question to answer. If you are using your multi tool as a woodsman tool, the lack of an awl could be problematic. The Surge does offer everything I think you need, but if you find yourself hiking a lot, weight might be an issue. There is the Leatherman Signal, that was built more as a woodsman tool. I feel like the Signal lacks some of the functionality you may be looking for. Personally, if it were me, I would choose the Surge all day long. If you are looking for something that is just a bit lighter, then the Victorinox Swisstool is a spectacular multi tool. It does lack a set of scissors though. If you want something even lighter, then the Swisstool Spirit models are an excellent choice as well. The Wave is always a good choice, except that it doesn't have an awl. The Leatherman Rebar is a great multi tool in it's own right and does include an awl. Personally, I choose the Surge. I sacrifice the weight of the tool for it's capability and ruggedness. I think before deciding, you need to think about which tools are the most important to you and for what reason. From there you can narrow down your choices to find what best suits your needs. I will be doing videos on all of the multi tools that I listed above as soon as I can get to them. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. What works for me, may not work quite as well for you, and visa versa. At any rate, thank you for taking the time to watch my video. I hope you'll check some of the others out as well.
Thank you for the great video! I'm trying to deside between this and charge+... Is the charge worth the extra money, i don't know.... Surge is maybe too big for my use
For most people, the Surge is a bit much. When considering the value of the Charge+, I feel that it is worth the extra cost in comparison to the Wave+. Of course, in the end, that will be for you to decide.
There are certainly trade offs jumping to the Surge, but I personally think it is the best made to date for me. The Swisstool is right there with it though.
Can someone please respond to this question....I also would like to purchase a leatherman with black oxide coating on JUST the tools and the polished steel for the frame...but leatherman website doesn't give that option....what do I need to do in order to make this happen? I see so many people with it...Im jealous
@@txtoolcrib Thanks, I checked again and yes, the Surge and even Wave seem to have them on one side but not both. That seems to be a Charge only feature as you stated.
I agree. The Wave is a good multi tool but I think the Swiss-made Victorinox Swiss tool is superior & far better quality & more complete, specially the one that comes with all the accessories (cork extractor, wrench + extension and standard bits. More than 45 functions on that).
I don't know if the Wave is "best". For my needs the toolset of the Charge is better. I think "best" is determined by use and the appropriate tools. Some will claim the Super Tool 300 is "best" despite no outside accessable blades an no scissors. For their needs it may well be the "best" LM. I could live with the have to open it and two hand opening of the knife blade. However, the no scissors makes it unsuitable for my needs. I use the scissors more than the serrated blade, and micro screwdriver driver.
Leatherman has to get rid of the mini bit driver on the wave an Replace with an awl. Also they have increase the size of scissors if possible. Then you would have an almost perfect 👌 multi tool in the wave.
I just tried that with my Schrade sheath for the same style knife and it's borderline at best. The older model of the Wave where the knives don't stick out to much could probably fit or if your sheath isn't tight around the Buck 110.
...need to find someway to remove and replace blades. Utility tool held together by 'security screws'. I assume this was intentionally designed so as to ensure purchase of new product.
When you started talking about getting rid of the micro screwdriver, I was all ready for a fight, but your idea was perfect, make that tip fit the adapter we already have! Brilliant! Seriously. I was wrong :) The change I've always wanted in the Wave, was getting rid of that pry-bar/wide screw driver and give us a box cutter like @ 5:40 in your SOG PowerPint video. What do you think?

That little micro screwdriver was a godsend in Afgahn. Did come across small screws glasses screws often. Always made sure my screws were tight in my glasses
I dont carry my WAVE+ that often, but its a fantastic multi tool for a variety of reasons. The WAVE+ is a versatile tool that appeals to a wide variety of people/professions. The SURGE is my EDC multitool, but the without the WAVE the SURGE would not exist. Also, the entire "FREE" series is a bit gimmicky and over priced/hyped. Great video!
I absolutely agree with that statement, 100 percent. Without the Wave, the Surge would not exist.
love how you carried a champion for very long, only logical to end up with the surge, big and capable.
Thank you! I just bought this as my first ever multitool!
just the same as me, have a nice day!
@@laksanaadi878 You have a great day as well!
same here...wave+ delivered to me yesterday
Maybe an awl could be intergraded into the bit exchanger. Then if you wear it out you can replace it.
12:25 black and silver yes! I have the black and silver wave+ and I think it looks fantastic, looks just as good on the surge!
This and the Victorinox Spirit XBS are my absolute favorites and go-to's. Great content, btw - love the depth and knowledge 👍
Thank you very much. Both of those multi tools are really excellent choices btw.
Most of the leatherman story move around the wave, all multitools are same with minor change, just like charge and wave are same only main blade steel on charge.great video as always..impressed with your deep knowledge..
Thank you sir, and thanks for watching.
No matter how old my collection is, they remain 99% rust free.
you are the best man.... keep the excellent work
Thank you, I appreciate the support. Thank you for watching.
Can you share some links for the bit parts? It sounds awesome
Merging the small bit exchange with the large and adding an awl is a fantastic idea! I’d buy another wave just for that.
I'd get rid of the scissors
Agree with all of your statements; just a thing. The free series just came out and it's completely new. The tools on the p2/p4 are ridiculous but this is just the beginning..... The main goal for Leatherman factory is to sell.... Well, they are selling tools and in some years they will come out with a new model on free platform.... If they will include bit changer and proper tools with proper length.... That will be a game changer IMHO
The Wave Plus is a great “ Gateway drug “ . I’ve gifted a few , with good results .
Totally agree about the awl. Never used the eye glass driver and always using the bottle opener as an awl.
Thank you. I think the combination you are looking at would work quite well.
It's more slimmer compared to the Wave, that can make a difference with a percentage of people.
I own a Rebar.. the only thing I don't like about the Rebar is they don't have scissors, but I'm planning on adding those..
That would be a pretty good multi tool.
Great video - I just bought a Surge last week. - Thanks
Excellent video very helpful info on making a decision on buying a multitool just order one thanks!!
You’re very welcome sir.
I've always felt the same way about how the eyeglass screwdriver should be added to the bit kit, and be replaced with an awl. An awl would give the Wave a near perfect tool set. Pocket clips should be on ALL pocket sized multitools.
I would love that also a package opener would be fantastic with that toolset this would be the perfect multi tool
Do you have any pictures of your mods you would like to share?
@@txtoolcrib a video will be posted shortly on my channel.
Excellent. I’ll be looking for it.
Added a bit exchanger and removable surge file to my P4, now it’s a perfect EDC for me
My daily carry is Wave + and Squirt PS4. I carry the wave with the bit set and extender in the Leatherman Large sheath.
Good combination.
I bought a Leatherman Curl and took the file off and replaced it with a wave saw. Now in my opinion it’s the perfect tool
Finally got mine. Couldn't be happier
Excellent.
Good review mate! I Agee with missing an awl, also good external scissors ✂️ that’s my perfect version
Bought my Wave maybe 10 years ago. The steel was brittle and it kept on breaking and no i didn't use it the way you shouldn't. I gave it away and i now carry a PST.
That little driver fits the screws on my strapcode watch bracelet it comes in handy at times.
And the scale tools, especially the pen.
Good review. Subscribed. Lost my Surge recently. Set it down on truck bed and never seen again. Like the size of Surge but prefer large saw and file of Wave. Trying to decide which to buy to replace Surge.
I carry a wave + I've always seen the scissors as a back up to the micra I keep on my keychain
There should be a “Build your own wave” option. Where the outside tools and housing stays but the inside may have customizable options for a couple of the tools. I love the multitool but there are a couple of tools that i really haven’t found the need to use.
I can’t say the same, I use everything on the Surge.
You should do a multi tool collection video bc you got a lot of cool multi tools.
I may very well do that in the future. Not a bad idea at all.
The Leatherman Wave Plus is my next multi - tool....
A very good choice, I really like the Wave Plus for it’s versatility.
I just ordered the signal. I plan on replacing the combo blade with a straight edge s30v blade. Removing the saw in place of a serrated blade. Removing the awl in place of a t shank holder so I have access to a diamond file and a better saw blade.
Hi,
I’ve plunged for a Wave + and absolutely love it.
TX Tool Crib I agree completely!
Ben have you got a video on how to change implaments on a Leatherman? And what types of tool(s) you may need. Thank you.
Just bought the wave, got a rebar (still good) I use the saw a lot. And the small driver is good for some compasses.
TX Tool Crib Thank you.
Do you have a Kydex holster for any of your Leathermens, and if so, are they worth getting one ?
I like the wave much better then the free series. The wave is awesome and is a classic.
Quite a few people feel the same way. From what I can tell, it’s about a 50/50 split on the new FREE series.
@@txtoolcrib Free series is good. The wave is still king.
I agree about the awl, it would be perfect.
I think that maybe they didn't put bit exchanger on free series cause they didn't want to drop the sellings on wave too much.
I can't close my Wave + - what's the secret to unlock it so that the pliers go back into the handles? THANKS!!!
Surge is the king of heavy duty MUT while Wave+ is the king of compact robust MUT.
I noticed the precision screwdriver on the corkscrew;where did you retrieve it? And how much did it cost??
Is it possible for the Surge's replaceable blade part to fit on the Wave/Plus?
I have seen it done. I honestly can’t remember if the pivot pin is the same size. It may require a bushing.
@@txtoolcrib Oh neat. If you can remember where you saw it, it would be appreciated. Either way thank you!
I was on the fence too but the steel will be harder to sharpen and I don't like the crimpers either
There are certainly trade offs jumping to the Surge, but I personally think it is the best made to date for me. The Swisstool is right there with it though.
How does the Wave + compare to the Charge + TTi ?
Can someone please respond to this question....I also would like to purchase a leatherman with black oxide coating on JUST the tools and the polished steel for the frame...but leatherman website doesn't give that option....what do I need to do in order to make this happen? I see so many people with it...Im jealous
mini driver helped my change the battery in my Casio watch back :)
Many uses for that little driver.
It's a good watch spring bar tool also.
So which ones come with the Bit Exchanger? Just the Wave?
Hello, please tell me which one will be stronger than wave plus or just wave?
Another great video
👍👍
Thank you sir.
The OG Wave medium flat driver can be a car door lock pick.
Nice to know.
If it had an awl and a 154cm or a S30V blade. it would be damn near perfect.
Do the 4 outer/main tools on the newest Wave ride on bronze bushings-like the Charge+Surge, or is it still steel on steel like the older Waves?
To my knowledge, that is limited to the Charge series.
@@txtoolcrib Thanks, I checked again and yes, the Surge and even Wave seem to have them on one side but not both. That seems to be a Charge only feature as you stated.
Any one notice if their hand gets pinched/can get pinched with pliers use on Wave+? I have heard that somewhere on UA-cam. Thanks
The wave plus has the exact same tools as the surge correct?
I agree. The Wave is a good multi tool but I think the Swiss-made Victorinox Swiss tool is superior & far better quality & more complete, specially the one that comes with all the accessories (cork extractor, wrench + extension and standard bits. More than 45 functions on that).
just bought one together with the bit kit
Great video!
Thank you.
I’m a victorinox user but anytime someone mentions multi tool I think of the Wave
The scissors are changed from two edges to single edge.
Now I have to go back and look. I’ve never noticed that before.
On the wave+? On mine it's 2 sided
On my charge + it is
I don't know if the Wave is "best".
No argument here.
Remove the serrated blade and replace it with outside scissors, then use the empty scissors slot from the inside for an awl. Perfect tool.

Great video! I was wondering if a leatherman wave would fit into a buck 110 sheath
That’s a good question. Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer.
I just tried that with my Schrade sheath for the same style knife and it's borderline at best. The older model of the Wave where the knives don't stick out to much could probably fit or if your sheath isn't tight around the Buck 110.
My wave + is too wide for my mid 1970's 110 sheath
wave is better than the free p4 just wish it had a awl and one hand opening!
I don’t disagree.
My edc wave is two yrs old and I could open it one hand smoothly like the p4
They do break in quite nicely.
Mine broke in after 5 mins I got a lose one still loving it after a couple months
If they would just fix the pinch point when pliers used. Ouch.
The microdriver is useful if you actually wear.glasses.
Saves ur ass when ur in town and a lens falls out
...need to find someway to remove and replace blades. Utility tool held together by 'security screws'. I assume this was intentionally designed so as to ensure purchase of new product.
When you started talking about getting rid of the micro screwdriver, I was all ready for a fight, but your idea was perfect, make that tip fit the adapter we already have! Brilliant! Seriously. I was wrong :)
The change I've always wanted in the Wave, was getting rid of that pry-bar/wide screw driver and give us a box cutter like @ 5:40 in your SOG PowerPint video.
What do you think?
Interesting because I use the micro driver a lot but would never use an awl
I really really wish they would drop the mini screwdriver and put an awl in.
I couldn’t agree more.
