I have a normal leatherman Wave that I take with me when I know that I might need to fix something and love having as a “mini tool box“ in my room. As for a daily, I once thought about replacing / supplementing my edc Victorinox pioneer x with a leatherman squirt ps4…
Had to get a fellow Irishmans opinion on this and glad i did thank you , i really loved small leathermans and i'm finding it really hard to get a squirt nowadays , you're right leatherman are slippin up on the small stuff 👍☘️
My wingman has served me well. Scissor sucks but I’ve used everything else with no issue. I’ve had it since 2014. Thinking about upgrading and giving it to my nephew.
I’d recommend that while using the drivers on a Leatherman with the small tools on the interior, orientate the plier head into the handle opposite the driver whether you’re using it inline or as a t-handle it’s much more comfortable and ergonomic.
Thanks for the video. You taught me a lot. I always have a Leatherman in reach, when I am near my car or in my home. I 100% concur with you on Medium size like the Juice. The other one they need to bring back is the Crunch. I have one, but if they ever bring them back I am definitely buying another one. I concur with you that the WAVE probably the best all round multi-tool, yet I don’t have one. My current primary Leatherman is a Signal, except when I am at the range and then it is a MUT EOD. Again, thanks for the video. I learned a lot.
Not a complaint or criticism but what are your thoughts on the Leatherman sidekick? I went with a sidekick because I wanted a Leatherman but I wanted something that was in the medium price bracket I don't want to pay $120 for the wave plus and I don't really do the kind of work that would really need that size multi-tool.
I think it’s a good basic multi tool. For about $70 it’s pretty great. But I do recommend to folks to go the extra yards for the Wave. I get it, it’s expensive, but it has last for the rest of your life vibes (as long as you don’t lose it 🤦♂️
My most beloved is Juice CS4. Everything larger is bulky. But nowdays I carry Knipex 125mm, and some neck knife (Spydero ARK for example). I carried Charge Al, and time to time I use Squirt PS4, some time ago too.Last month I discovered small multitool branded Nextool (Sailor or something like that) for 20 bucks, awesome little multitool for everyday office survival.
Personally, I think if they shrink the P4 or P2, they’d be on to something that could compete with the SOG Powerpint. I love the Powerpint, I use it way more than I ever did my Juice models and I LOVE my Juice’s. I just think the P4 and P2, with the magnets and ease of opening would be very nice in Juice or Powerpint size. Shrinking the Wave would interesting, but I think the P4/P2 platform lends itself to shrinkage just a little bit better. Great video.
The P4 and P2 are really high quality for sure (pity Leatherman is discontinuing them). I just wonder if they did shrink them down, how much would they have to charge to make a profit. I bet they couldn’t compete with the Powerpint in price.
I don't really disagree with anything you said. I carry a larger tool sometimes in my pocket and I don't mind the weight. For more serious use I have a Charge that I carry, similar to the Wave except it doesn't have scissors. For EDC around my house I carry a Skeletool or a Juice S2. These 2 are fairly equal but the Juice has a smaller blade and includes scissors. I will frequently carry a knife in addition to the multitool. I once owned a smaller multitool but I prefer something like the Juice and if I'm already carrying a separate pocket knife then I'm covered. The Arc sounds good but since I already have 5 Leatherman tools I don't need another.
Great analysis! I carry a Wave+. Only the insane price tag keeps me from trying the ARC. I bought a T2 to try out for $20 when Lowe's clearanced them out. I'm really glad that's all I paid; it's mainly used for opening the mail. My boss praises the Leatherman Juice line. I agree: it's a real hole in their lineup. I use a Leatherman Bolster or Micra when I need to "go light".
The Arc is next level. Just feels quality. But considering you can buy 2 x Wave+ for the money it’s hard to recommend. I love mine but my wife and kids know getting me the newest Leatherman for Christmas each year is a safe bet 😂
When I think of “leatherman” I’ll always picture the “bond” or the older originals. The one handed opening of the Wave feels like a modern improvement on the original. Even if the Wave is actually quite old now. With that being said, these folks haven’t convinced me to expand from or replace my Wave since I purchased it in 2014. The only other leatherman I own is the squirt which lives in a bike bag.
I lost my OHT a year ago because of the garbage Velcro sheath it came with, and I was heartbroken when I couldn't get my hands on another. What a completely underappreciated design. I splurged on the Arc, and I hadn't realized how much I came to rely on the spring loaded pliers. Worth the $230 for the blade I rarely have to sharpen, and when you factor in the price of the bit set alone it softens the blow some.
I’ve yet to find an EDC multitool (with pliers) better than the old Leatherman Juice lineup. I even bought them for my groomsmen. For as much as I love Leatherman, my current multitool of choice is the Victorinox Spirit X, particularly for its toolset when camping.
You nailed it. I bought the Free T4 a couple of years ago, and it's not good for all the reasons you enumerated. I also bought the Gerber Armbar, and it's much better and lighter. I have an original Leatherman that I use quite often. Its 40 years old.
I have a lot of different Leatherman tools and the Wave+ is also my favorite. I have one I. Each vehicle and my travel trailer. What a great idea on Leatherman making a Wave Mini.
I do agree about their top line being very chonky. What I miss is maybe a precision leatherman, something for electronics etc. with replaceable scalpel, sharper pliers. Their smaller models lack tools like scissors. I basically carry 2 leathermans, my first and daily Wingman, which has great toolset for smaller tasks. The second is Surge which is a chonker too big to carry around all the time but has some redundant tools for me like 3 different blades like saw.
My intro into leatherman was a Juice C2... Still have one... And I agree Leatherman has missed the mark in not having a like for like replacement. The sidekick and wingman just don't cut it. I agree with your 4 picks... I personally have a a few Skeletools.. A Wave+.. A Free P2 (which for me is better than the P4.. The extra tools do not make up for the cost) and today I got myself an Arc for my birthday... I don't agree about the Free T4 though... It works well for me... But yes I would prefer any 91mm SAK with a scissor ... But what the SAK don't have is the one handed opening... If you could maybe suggest something akin to a SAK but offers one handed opening... I live in South Africa and we don't have the widest range of premium multi tools. Love your work 👍
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like we have a lot of the same kit. 😂. Appreciate that the T4 works for a lot of people and power to them. It’s a quality tool, I just don’t get it.
Leatherman definitely needs to bring back more mid-size. The problem with the SOG PowerPint is all those cutouts/opening holes. It inherently weakens the tools and make them more prone to snapping. Which can happen on a small tool that might be hard for some folks to hold, and so they over grip it.
I carry my Wave+ every single day at work and I love it. I have a Squirt and a Micra for light everyday carry and I love them too. I use the scissors for the Micra far more than I thought I would. I own a Wingman, a T4, and Skeletool as well and they’re useful and I like them but they aren’t in the same ball park as the Wave+. The Arc is intriguing but I can’t see it replacing my Wave+…..yet.
Free series magnets are fine for "gentlemen" use, but those metal files and pliers don't mix with magnets for harder use. The magnets attract ferrous debris. This applies to the Arc, Free P2, Free P4 (all with pliers and file) and Free T4 (file). Moreover, the Roxon KS2 Elite is a better tool than the T4 IMO and half the price. Better blade steel. Better awl. Better scissors. And if the Roxon is better than the T4, it's better than the T2 by default. The only Free series knives potentially worth the price are the K2 and K4. Neither has a file or pliers, so no ferrous debris issues with the magnets. Both have nice 3.3" blades which can serve as your main EDC blade, along with the pry bar tool, awl and screwdrivers. I prefer the K2 because the Free series scissors are substandard and just add bulk if not useful.
My leatherman Freestyles are still my favorite. Simple and similar to the first without the bottle opener that takes up more space. Just got the Olight multi tool that’s awesome. Looking at the ARC but it’s divisive out there on it. I’ve never had a larger one. I can get 30% off which makes it a bit nicer due to line of work discounts.
The UK and knives is wild. Our small locking blades got taken away leaving the UK. Funnily enough bought in the UK in a real store. But my fixed blade was fine. Soo, just carry a small fixed blade in the UK. (Not when going to a party of course but hiking is enough of a legal reason) Non locking is ridiculous.
The Skeletool would be good for an Ultralight backpacker (I only say that because I am one and use one). I use the Signal with the bits that came with the Arc for Bushcrafting/Camping. I use a Gerber Dual Power for Urban/get home/in the glove box. I use a Leatherman Arc with an adapter with full size bits for daily carry. I also have a ferro rod and my Prometheus Alpha flashlight in the belt case the Arc came with.
First I whould like to say I really enjoy your videos, I've had the letharman wave+ for a number of years and really like it I think it the best well-equipped multitool, it's on my belt every day, and I also have the sog powerpint in my edc pouch and like the small form factor, if they figure out how to make a better looking mechanism so it can be used one handed I would be best small multitool.
Thanks for the positivity and sharing your carry. The Wave+ is a staple of any EDC carry. Glad you’re enjoying the PowerPint too. It’s cheap feeling but fills a need.
I have many leatherman, the most i carry with me almost everyday are WAVE+ or CURL or BOND...recently i sold my charge tti bcause i dont like it when i cramp the handles, the scales moves eventhou i tighten the bolts already, bad design scales, at least happend to mine. P4 is also good, but i prefer the more classic design of the wave/bond...for the small version, i always carry SQUIRT ES4/PS4 or minitool or micra, these always stay in each of my edc carry pouch..i love leatherman ❤
I have the new Arc then a buddy of mine told me Harbor Frieght sold a clone multitool for 200$ less then my Arc and I gotta say it's not bad and he saved 200$
No Signal, the swaggiest looking of the leathermans? Plus the hammer is so useful, I use it constantly from breaking up chunks of ice to flushing nails down
My favorite is the Charge TTI. I’m testing a Daicamping Titanium from Aloxexpress. Around $50. So far, I’m super impressed. The scissors are way better than the Leatherman. And it used standard quarter inch bits. I’m sure the blade steel is lessor. But so far, it’s really solid.
I used to recommend the Gerber Gear Suspension as a first multitool. It’s not a Leatherman’s level of quality but at $34 it’s a great starter tool. But I’m now going to recommend the Daicamping DL7. It simply cannot be beat at less than $50.
If only there were a mini roxon flex. I think that Sog could cash in on the powerpint even more if they improved the scissors and gave us a better blade steel or ditched the blades entirely for a No.11 xacto holder.
Thanks for showing- I havent sprung for any of the new leathermans and Im a little dissapointed in them lately. I have and old leatherman Charge ( still works well and has been used for years, but sits i my garage because of weight) I have an old leatherman micra ( one that is old enough to have good sissors) I also have a leatherman Wingman ( a tool everybody hates but I have found quite useful because of the spring loaded pliers)
I have a Leatherman Wave (which I love) but feel like a small child is hanging off my belt. Instead my EDC is the Benchmade Griptillian 550 or Leatherman Free K2.
Got WAVE and skeletool. The 2nd is a kind of disapointment. Thought it will be great EDC but it is still to heavy. Acctually my EDC is Victorinox Compact and it is awesome!. For those who are not sure which Leatherman to buy- You cannnot go wrong with WAVE. One of the best purchase I made
I know they're quality but I just cannot justify Leatherman retail prices in the UK. I'm using a Bibury for everyday use and keep a Gerber in my outdoor kit.
Great video! When I first started looking to buy a multi-tool a couple of years ago of course I went straight to the Leatherman site. It's what people often think of first. But I decided that I couldn't justify the cost as a new multi-tool user. I wasn't sure it was something I'd even WANT to carry regularly. But I wanted to try one out. I opted for the Gerber Suspension NXT and it was a great first one! Very affordable and did what I needed it to do. After a bit I wanted something more compact to carry around regularly and went with the SOG PowerPint. It is a GREAT tool for that size/price. I've also been really enjoying the Gerber Dime when I want something even a bit more compact. Obviously the Gerber Dime isn't going to be able to do everything those larger tools can do but it does a decent amount for the size and it's not crazy expensive.
I wanted to love the PowerPint, but a pair of scissors is one of my most-used tools, and the scissors on that thing is just so awful that I had to return mine.
SOG in general makes some real crap, but the powerpint is a gem in a sea of garbage. I wish they would learn.

I agree but my powerpint has defective scissors. I'm expecting to return for a fix or ?. I like it alot though.

I have a normal leatherman Wave that I take with me when I know that I might need to fix something and love having as a “mini tool box“ in my room. As for a daily, I once thought about replacing / supplementing my edc Victorinox pioneer x with a leatherman squirt ps4…
Right on. 👍🏻
Skeletool is great, clip to pants and always on hand when fishing. Cuts line and removes hooks
Perfect for that use case indeed. Glad you like it.
Skeletool is OG! Its all i need! Why would i need an AWL? Or a wood file in daily life?
I’d recommend that while using the drivers on a Leatherman with the small tools on the interior, orientate the plier head into the handle opposite the driver whether you’re using it inline or as a t-handle it’s much more comfortable and ergonomic.
Thanks for the heads up. Using the screwdriver can be super frustrating at times 👍🏻
Sounds like you’ve got your EDC locked it. 👍🏻
I used to carry the mini version of the Leatherman Skeletool on my keychain but lost it somewhere, unfortunately they don't make them anymore.
I bet they couldn’t compete with the Powerpint in price.
haha the leatherman without pliers is so weird! for me a multitool with pliers means a leatherman, without pliers means a victorinox
victorinox sucks too
I don't really disagree with anything you said.
Very cool!
What Watch are you wearing?
You have a keen eye. I made it myself. Video coming soon.
You made it? Oh I'm very excited👌🏻😉
Leatherman definitely needs to bring back more mid-size. The problem with the SOG PowerPint is all those cutouts/opening holes. It inherently weakens the tools and make them more prone to snapping. Which can happen on a small tool that might be hard for some folks to hold, and so they over grip it.
Makes sense. Come on Leatherman.
Original PST. 1983. I have been using Leatherman since 1985.
I had the Juice S2 as a teenager and it's still my favorite leatherman. I was gutted when I broke the pliers and couldn't get it replaced.
With a 30% discount I’d say go for it. If you don’t like it you’ll be able to sell it used for the same money you bought it for.
The UK and knives is wild.
Our small locking blades got taken away leaving the UK. Funnily enough bought in the UK in a real store.
But my fixed blade was fine.
Soo, just carry a small fixed blade in the UK. (Not when going to a party of course but hiking is enough of a legal reason)
Non locking is ridiculous.
Thanks Marcus, always enjoy your reviews and videos!
Glad you like them!
I own 2 wave+ when one breaks i send it in and use the other one. I do HVAC and use it 20 times a day minimum
OG Skeletool CX my number 1.
Tradie and outdoorsman.
The skeletool really appeals to me because it has everything that you need and nothing that you don't.
I'm with you. A tiny wave would be wonderful.
I have the new Arc then a buddy of mine told me Harbor Frieght sold a clone multitool for 200$ less then my Arc and I gotta say it's not bad and he saved 200$
If they made a Mini Wave I'd totally buy it, I'd pay more for it too
Right?
Another contended to that Sog you mentioned is the Nextool 10 in 1. Really excellent large scissors. $25 or so.
No Signal, the swaggiest looking of the leathermans? Plus the hammer is so useful, I use it constantly from breaking up chunks of ice to flushing nails down
The signal was a notable omission. It’s probably 5th on my list.
Great video. Very informative. I wonder if you would recommend the Skeletool over the Sogpint?
My favorite is the Charge TTI. I’m testing a Daicamping Titanium from Aloxexpress. Around $50. So far, I’m super impressed. The scissors are way better than the Leatherman. And it used standard quarter inch bits. I’m sure the blade steel is lessor. But so far, it’s really solid.
I used to recommend the Gerber Gear Suspension as a first multitool. It’s not a Leatherman’s level of quality but at $34 it’s a great starter tool. But I’m now going to recommend the Daicamping DL7. It simply cannot be beat at less than $50.
Thank You Very much - big big help .
Glad it helped
If only there were a mini roxon flex. I think that Sog could cash in on the powerpint even more if they improved the scissors and gave us a better blade steel or ditched the blades entirely for a No.11 xacto holder.
Love the idea of an xacto holder on the PowerPint. TSA friendly. Would be epic.
Missed out letterman micra instead of pliers it comes with a nice scissor
I’ve got a Micra. That was my first Leatherman back in 1999.
I think the Roxon Flex is the future with its modular design. These other manufacturers will follow.
I wonder. I’m hoping that’s the case.
I have a Leatherman Wave (which I love) but feel like a small child is hanging off my belt.
Instead my EDC is the Benchmade Griptillian 550 or Leatherman Free K2.
Great video! I also miss the juice series!! I think Leatherman should come out with a PowerPint sized tool with the build of the Free P4!
The juice and the squirt where great tools, it’s really a shame they discontinued them
Skeletool CX FWT🎉
Had to look up FWT on urban dictionary. I’m old. 😂. Agree with the sentiment. 👍🏻
I use the T2 everyday @work. I like it. Don’t need the pliers as much.
But I do wanna try the Wave Plus. I use the Victorinox multi tool w/clip.
Unfortunately, I tried the SOG POWER PINT. It’s too small and flimsy. I don’t recommend it.
I use a Rev, not the best Leatherman, but it’s compact enough to be a comfortable daily carry.
Good comparison.
What about Swiss Tech 37 in 1 available on aliexpress?
Got WAVE and skeletool. The 2nd is a kind of disapointment. Thought it will be great EDC but it is still to heavy. Acctually my EDC is Victorinox Compact and it is awesome!. For those who are not sure which Leatherman to buy- You cannnot go wrong with WAVE. One of the best purchase I made
What would a lepprichan need with a multi.tool. pry the lid of his pot o gold ?
My top 2 Leatherman are not included in video)))
1: Leatherman Charge TTI Plus
2: Leatherman Surge Plus
I know they're quality but I just cannot justify Leatherman retail prices in the UK. I'm using a Bibury for everyday use and keep a Gerber in my outdoor kit.
Probably the best small multitool was the juice s2. A good basic compact toolset.
I just got the powerpint for 39 on amazon its 43 now
That’s a steal
A great video, Thank you so much!
Love the video quality and explanations/comparisons. Great job! New Subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
Got a couple juice s2 and they are great! Thanks nutnfancy!
I have EDC’ed the Juice S2 every day for ~12 years. They need a replacement.
100%. Find the best tools that work for you!!!
I wanted to love the PowerPint, but a pair of scissors is one of my most-used tools, and the scissors on that thing is just so awful that I had to return mine.

Hey Marcus, love your content - been meaning to subscribe for a while - just hit the button 😉
Worth mentioning I’m in the market for a Leatherman as we speak - so your video was perfect timing for me!
Thanks buddy. Much appreciated. And thanks for all the positivity!
Oh great. Get the Wave+. Best value for buck in my view
@@MarcusCreates thanks for the tip - I’m a Victornox fan (I know you are too) - thoughts on the wave vs the spirit x?
