Your right 99 percent of the leatherman are about cutting branches I was thinking that all I can do with my leatherman is to cut down branches to. They should make more video of using a leatherman in the field

great video. 2 other uses for the tool that are useful for electricians: the sharpened notch in the can opener is for stripping wire (put the wire in and press the tool against the frame) and behind the pliers are wire crimpers that work well in a pinch.

Good video John I also enjoy your other videos. I was given “the wave” for Christmas 11-12 years ago. I’m a retired professional gardener-50 years overall. I used it a lot until one day I realized I had “lost” it. Saddened I received another Leatherman but not the wave. A good tool but edges were rougher so I made do--until we moved into our new house 3 years ago, & I found behind my dresser. Wow! I keep the other one in the truck & the “wave” is on my belt!!

Great video! You have a nice accent! Finally the video I was looking for. When others showcase the plier cutting quality they always cut harder and harder thin wires with it and not larger. I want to use the pliers exactly the way you did in this video and didn't know wether they would cut larger electrical wires. Thank you for confirming it for me!

Best pocket multitool available, any tradesman should own one, lifetime warranty, no quibbles like for like swap if it breaks, had mine for about 6 years and it’s my second one as I took the first one back because the pliers had become loose, the shop sent it off and Leatherman just sent me the brand new version out, amazing! Well worth £140 👍

John, that is, hands down, the best working demonstration and promotion of the Leatherman "Wave" that I have seen; and, I am a multitool "nutter", so I have watched dozens if not a hundred videos on just Leatherman multitools. I have three (maybe 4) second generation "waves" and I love them. I am a mechanic, and I carry a Leatherman "fuse" everday...but my waves are always close in my main tool box or my car's glovebox

Hi John, top review, Leathermans are the best. I bought one of the first in 1990 for £50, still working although I have bought a few more since, they really become your best friend. Keep up the great work.

  • @cuebj

Had one, didn't use it, too heavy in pocket, gave it away. Was given same thing with different name (just found it - Gerber) by someone who didn't use it. Now inspired to keep it with me and get into habit of using it. Would save lots of dashing to and fro between workpiece and where I've put down the proper tools.
Having seen a few very nasty falls where people tripped on that strapping, I always cut it up very short - 6" lengths. Even pick it up if I see it lying around. Hate it. Tool in pocket or on belt will let me chop it up whenever I see the stuff

Hi, John - great video - subscribed - you might consider using the tip of the serrated blade to open boxes, etc.- it has great draw-cut capability and will give your main blade a rest...What do you think of the bit kit and extender? I think you would find them most useful...Also, the bottle - can opener will strip wire well and will give your cutters a rest...

Nicely done John 😁. Great demos and you can tell by the way you hold it that it is "a trusty old friend". My one is still going strong (15 years) and it still surprises me every time I use it how sharp the blade is.... it must be magic 😁. Thanks for the video John, stay safe 😁👍

  • @StrawbyteWorkshop

I have the later version (Wave+) and, like you, love it. As you say there's nothing half-arsed on it and the diamond file and scissors are probably my favourite tools as they are so surprisingly good. When I bought mine it came with a cracking ceramic blade sharpener tool which gets you the razer sharp edge on both the main blade and the cerated blade. Prior to the Wave I did have a cheaper 'generic' tool which I bought in Wickes over 20 years ago that got a lot of use but was essentially a bit crappy. The Leatherman is miles better by comparison and I do regret not taking the plunge earlier.

  • @UFwho
    @UFwho 2 роки тому

Man! I’ve had 4 in the last 32 years. Lost two of them. I broke the blade on a Wave once. I’ve been using the same Wave now daily (that’s an understatement) for at least 12 years. When it was new I could pull splitters with the pliers. I’ve used it as a hammer a few times. I used it to steer a race car with no steering wheel (walking next to the car and pushing it). I once made a new hole in a leather belt with it. The fkn thing even has a precise 8” ruler. Those who know, know. Btw! Just found a neat Chinese case that clips into the Wave specifically. I can rotate the case on my hip, press the scissor-lock button and it falls out into my hand. Putting it back is even more satisfying. This tool becomes an extra limb for long time users. A very functional extra limb. I cut a 6” tree down once with it. I can go on and on and on…

Great video review John. The Wave is certainly popular and you have shown some great use cases. I am thinking about getting one. I currently have the PST II which I got in 1999, it was their 4th design, still works great and a Skeltool that I got about 3 years ago as I wanted something really lightweight. I have used both extensively and they certainly do the job.

Just a few minor clarifications: the Wave (and most Leatherman tools) use 420HC, not 440C (unfortunately - because 440C is superior to 420HC). Also, Leatherman does NOT use VG10 in any of its tools. It does, however, use S30V in some of the more premium versions of the Charge (like the TTi, for example) - and S30V is actually superior to VG10. The "regular" versions of Charge, as well as the Skeletool CX, use 154CM, which is Leatherman's mid-shelf steel offering.

Have had my Wave+ for a few days. It needs to be "broken-in" - by a gorilla, over two day's time, with lots of lubricant and forcefully opening/closing the tool. I've never had a tool which needed to be broken in - especially this difficult. And the Philips screwdriver droops/dangles - what's with that ????
UPDATE: Now 1/2 of the pliers is stuck - wedged tightly between aforementioned Philips screwdriver and the adjacent tool - am sending it back to Amazon for a refund - I’m FEDUP with this tool. 👎👎👎😾😾
