Funny you say that, i bought a 92 red 240sx absolute mint condition in 98 from a car lot for $5900 and within a year fell asleep at the wheel and ran into the back of a 80 ford f100 doing 80mph - totalled my car out nearly, all it did to the truck was scratch the back bumper alittle and bent it down slightly. In my ignorant youth i kept adding water and driving it leaking through the rad. Until it run dry and blowed the motor up.
First - Tony is the man. Second, having watched a number of these "will it runs" and dealt with a few abandoned vehicles myself, when (WHEN???) will people learn that a leaf blower is your best friend? Leave that pig outside, mask up/goggle up and blow away. Then you can use a shop vac (if needed) or shop air. But 99% of what you need to do can be done outside with a leaf blower (inside the car, too), electric or gas, in less than 5 minutes, and the rest of the journey is far less miserable. Also, can we talk about the Pontiac on the lift? GXP?
@@proton001 I knocked back an R32GTR rolling car in mint condition , only the engine missing for 5K about 5 years ago .......... I want a time machine to go back and kick myself up the ass !!
This project is awesome Tony! Good to see you back! Can't wait to see you finish this beast up and take it to the freedom factory and do some drifting with cleeter!
I am totally into this! Coming from a Ford guy, KEEP IT PONCHO! That is a sweet ride from before my time. Stay true to period, and let the new school kids know what's up. What's old is new again. I love this machine!
I snagged a 87k mile 93 convertible about a year ago that didn't run right for $3k. Zero rust, bone stock, excellent overall shape. The reason it didn't run right ended up being a disconnected ground for the fuel pump. Intermittent contact led to intermittent running. It's solved and runs like new now. Anyway, if you need a car that's basically all original (save for coilovers, wheels/tires, and an exhaust) as a reference, holler. I'm not too far from your Pottstown shop, I could bring it by on a Saturday or something.
A Hooptie fleet where you work on everything the right and wrong way in a long enough video that I can actually understand what your doing. You found your niche me thinks (and me likes).
I still have my old DG Trials NJ dvd. Y'all are responsible for getting me started way back when before drifting was mainstream. I miss my old drifting buds and all my s-chassis; it's a bit sad to see what time and negligence can do to an S13 but glad this one's with you my guy. I'm 40 now and dont have a project car but I still got the itch. Hopefully I can go sideways again before I die.
Not sure if you meant the s13 was the first 240sx we got in America, but we had the S12, S110, S11 and S10 here in the US. They were badged as the 200sx, but they rarely get the love the later S Chassis cars get.
Happy to see some S chassis content! I've got an 89 hatch with an SR20det redtop that's even worse than this, and getting a 93 hatch that I'm swapping all the goodies from the 89 into. This is great motivation for me. Hoping to see you out at some local tracks Tony 😎
yeah!! Hearing it fire up was awesome. And it ran so smooth!! My 89 Mr2 with a 3sgte swap has been sitting for the same amount of time (since 09). Friend was helping me with it and sadly he passed before we could finish it. I really hope to get it going someday!
Cool car! I like it that you kept the drum brakes for now, and didn’t go all crazy with conversions and modifications. Looking forward to seeing more of this car :-)
I remember when I flat bed towed my 68 Firebird, that had been sitting for years, from my parents house to mine. There was debris, dirt, mice droppings, mice nest "stuff" etc, pouring out of my car for 10 miles!!🤣 Your 240sx totally reminded me of that event. lol
Classic sr20 taking ages to build oil pressure when just cranking. Luckily they are pretty hardy engines, im kinda surprised the cams didnt get any surface rust on them but hey thats a major win! Hopefully you have good fun with her and put on some sensible oil control measures for it to stay happy.
Just watching all your video's makes me smile.. and watching your channel grow is so rad. Yes ! I've watched every video but a couple. And im doing that tonight.. hoping you have more on the burner, cooking up for us the viewer's..
I have to tell you Tony, I was really nervous at first because it kind of sounded like the engine was out of time when you were cranking it, but it sounds really good! Hell yeah bro!
this is the build i’ve been waiting for with the right person building it. cant believe how smooth that sr ran lol. i’m taking the ka out for a k24 on my hatch. will be keeping up with your personality build.
Geez is that what a blacktop SR is going for now $5k? I think I paid $2300 for an S14 SR20 back in 2007 and another $800 for the swap. Those were the days!
That picture you shared of when it was sinking into the ground reminds me of a 240 I've seen in a downtown mechanic parking lot in my area. Same color. Just rotting away. Sad to see. Glad you are rescuing this one.
That little timing chain guard at the front of the head? In between the cam gears? There was a nissan recall for that to be removed, timing chain begins to hit as it wears. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can’t wait for this to progress!! I bought a 180 rolling shell just over a year ago and I’m just about to start my own build so this will be great inspiration!!
What is you plan for this? Stock engine? I'm guessing a roll bar and new suspension? What about all that rust? Are you going to replace sections of the frame? Are you going to do anything about the body?
All of us East Coast car guys know about the Mice & Rust problems that happen to cars in our area. I am about 2 hrs south stuck between the Atlantic Ocean & the Delaware Bay by only a few miles between the two and cars melt into the ground with rust after a couple of yrs outside. I picked up a 89 Dakota that was parked in a field for 12yrs and while the truck didn't rust away the amount of Mice that ate this truck was mind blowing, I knew when I picked it up that most of the Mice were gone when I found a 6' Snake skin under the dash lol. I filled a big 2 gal zip lock bag with the nest that was in my Heater box, had to rebuild the entire Box cause they ate everything rubber out of it, Bastards lol.
Definitely change the back freeze plug on the block when you have the Trans out next. They like to rust out when they've sat a long while had a few sr's do it to me... +1 mastodon and tiger army +1 og Drift Alliance
Oh wow. This looks just like my old 89. Coupe with the same color. Its so pretty. That cracked water bottle, if it was an automatic I'd swear it was mine.
Please keep the hot rods in the mix. The jdm stuff is cool too but American muscle is king. I'll stay tuned as long as you keep up on the content. Nice work Tony.
Just watching an old video and you mentioned the 1/2 year camero. My father had a 69 1/2 Camero he ordered special and drag raced it for a couple years before he had to sell it.
Tony, JSYK, the S13 was not the first we got here in the states. We got the S10, S110 (both as Datsun 200sx) and S12 (Nissan 200sx) too. The s12 is dope as hell, i want a hatch one with the digital dash.
Once the headlights start working... While they are on and up, double tap the headlight button kinda quickly and the car will wink. Double tap again and it winks the opposite side.. it was funny to me back in highschool driving around beeping and winking at girls outside the clubs.
It will be great to see work on a small efficient 4 cylinder making good HP. Interesting project car. The LS swap 240SX are nice, but with a lighter engine that should handle very well.
Tony this is a blast from the past. I (forever ago...) actually went with Ryan when he went to first look at this s13 before bought it. Hope you are doing well man. I'll be checking out your videos.

People sleep on a battery blower for real
I remember when these were new. I thought it was one of the most beautiful cars ever.
The used JDM motor market is crazy right now. A lot of engines I used to get for 1.5-2.5k are now like 5-10k.
The popularity will go down again it’s okay brother

HKS intake? that is an essential piece to any older generation, original 90's jdm enthusiasts.
Put one on my Outback. For fun, but it sounds good. :)
I know right! The foam is gone but I would keep it if I can!

S12'S are amazing. I'm not sure they'll ever get the accolades they really deserve before they're all crashed drifting or rusting in fields though.
I feel like that oil pressure scene needed a "2000 years later" time card transition. Lol. Glad this thing is running; it sounds pretty healthy.
This reminds me of the MCM 240. Another s13 with an sr20 that hadn't run in a long time and ended up being mint
