They Said Big Horsepower Wasn't Possible! (They were right.)

- I've had this long dormant 1970 Cutlass project for a couple of years. We blew the dust off of it, got it fired up and driving and now it's time to make some power with this thing! It's a mild Olds Rocket 350 with some bolt ons, but that didn't stop us from throwing every trick in the book at this thing to make horsepower.

jfc Tony, new production team has really elevated things. Good on ya!
Right? I didn't touch a camera this week and it was awesome! Plus the pace of the video is soo good. I take zero credit besides bringing in some killers.
Love the channel. Thank you for continuing to put this out.
Glad you enjoy it!Thanks! We love putting this stuff out.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who struggles with getting more trans fluid on the floor than in the pan draining it.... bring the cat litter!
Yo, I tried to drain it and still got wrecked!
Yep, been there! 🤣
Use a vacuum oil extractor with a skinny hose down the fill tube and suck the fluid out. Then remove the pan. No mess, no fuss.
@@90lx86svo I was going to say "drill a hole in the pan then weld a bung in for a drain"
I believe the drain pan manufacturers know the exact dimensions to make so that it makes the most mess on most cars.
Dude! The production quality on this is insane!! This is better quality than anything coming out of motortrend right now and feels more legit, keep it up you guys!
Wow, thank you! Yeah, our new crew gets all the credit, we had a blast this week.
Damn i love this stuff, realistic tunning and wrenching! Thanks tony!
Thanks for watching!
Lived in Lansing for 50yrs.+ A Red '72 Cutlass-- one of the Best that were built.
Reminds me of the Olds Omega I had when I was stationed in Hawaii. Except yours runs all the time, is one color and doesn't start with a screw driver lol. Love the Cutlass man
Plot twist, it will start with a screwdriver!
@@StayTunedTA HAHAHA the best part of mine was explaining to a cop that the screwdriver worked better than the key, that I had in my pocket. First time I saw a cop lean on my car and laugh himself to tears
I love these budget builds that you do! The production of this video is top notch as well.
Thanks!
The 200 4R is a great trans upgrade for a mostly stock car from the 60's/70's. They will actually handle more power than they get credit for and like Tony said, they are almost the exact same length as a TH350 short shaft. I put one in my 76 Camaro with a mild 350 and 3.42 gears and it makes it a pleasure to drive on the hiway and not only that, 18-19mpg!
The Olds 350 is a great little motor. There is even 4" stroker kits available and it makes BBO torque stroked. Edelbrock is releasing 68cc chamber heads shortly for the 350.
Oh yes, this is the time of the week when the wild man Tony is back online, happy to see you Tony from Canada.
Yessir, crack a beer and saddle up! Thanks for watching!
Like I mentioned last week, can't wait to see you with Fin again.
@@martylb Very excited for Drag Week for sure! It's a hell of a ride.
Had 3 of these in the early 90’s, a 70,71 and72. The 72 was my favorite by far ( mostly because of the 455 ) but loved them all none the less.
I had a sweet ‘72 back in the late ‘70’s. I needed a cruiser after totaling my ‘70 Mach 1 and a ‘74 Mercury V6 Crappi. Insurance rates (assigned risk) for a sub 25 year old male with two accidents was killing me.
Another great Stay Tuned love ya Tony
Thanks! LOVE YA BACK!
Im so glad youre making A body content. I can watch it all day, gives me hope for my 71 elcos future
I love the realness of staytuned. Binge watching channel. Polish a couple cars and flush the others. Digging it. So relatable.
Love the content Tony, glad you’re still out there having fun with cars
Awesome build! Loving the content and the budget style builds! Keep it coming!
Good work, good show. Keep making episodes and I’ll keep watching.
"And that's how you do that, anytime you do this! " Needs to be on your next T-shirt Tony. LOL
Nice intro! Love the Cutlass build series, as well as the Firebird.
That gap on the headslights/bumper though! 😂. Love it
Love the channel...Production has come a long way in a very short time!!!!!
Rad show! Your production quality has improved so much!
Awesome again glad to see you and Finn teamed up again for drag week. Good luck.
That Cutlass would make a nice Power Tour car. Love that red paint.
You guys are doing great work and these videos are produced/edited very good.
Tony, man alive this was a good episode!
I'm deaf in one ear, so it's sometimes really hard to hear and follow along with UA-cam videos, especially when watching on a TV, but the sound leveling in this episode was great and I loved every minute!
Not a GM fan, but I can appreciate the fact you're working with the original engines and not just running off and doing another LS swap. Back in the day a friend of mine had a '71 442 455 that was pretty stout.
For cheap HP, LS is hard to beat but I don't want to yank out a good running engine for no reason.
@@StayTunedTA I understand, but I'd rather see a mild build on the Olds engine than to see you put a 1000HP LS in it. I think you and Lucky built the 265 That Frieberger ran in the '56 Chevy on Roadkill Garage that I thought was super cool. No, it didn't run 8's in the 1/4 mile, but it had history with that car. And I bleed Ford blue. Just saying a change up once in awhile would keep things interesting.
Brings me back...the year 1976, we found a 67' Firebird 400 4 speed in the junkyard, it needed a motor and paint work.
Hi Gents, you guys are doing a great job!! That Cutlass is a badass FN Car. And you are right Tony the A body is a perfect size car. I have a 65 Chevelle Malibu SS L79 4 SPD that I bought in 1970 I was 19 at the time and will never let it go!! My Son will Inherit it!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Bro the quality just continues to improve. Great work!!
Love the engine sounds while shifting gears on the bench. Kid at heart like all gearheads.
This video has me hooked again. Keep it coming!
Great way to end with proper burn out!!! Nice editing job!!
"I don't want to be any more guys!" LOL, another awesome video Tony!
Very Cool, I had a 71 Cutlass in College that I fixed up. Wish I still had it. Keep going on it. Finish the interior and there is certainly more HP you can get out of it with a few mods.
Congrats Tony! It turned out sweet!
Great episode! Editing was on point. You guys are getting better all the time!
Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
Beautiful Olds, that’s the kind of project gear heads hope to find!
I think your supposed to spray the nitrous IN the engine LOL... (obviously you know this) I was really wanting to see that....
Hahah, I was trying to let it breathe it in, the dyno chart was going STRAIGHT UP when brad bailed out.
Tony: I love your channel. I really enjoy watching you work. Keep it up....Everything seems to be just great!
Love the new intro. Keep on taking those steps my brotha. Love the show.
Love the cutlass. What a cool project! Love the channel Tony!
Thanks!!
hell yeah tony and crew. I been waiting for y'all to dial in your show. super awesome edits and stuff.
Love the olds dude! And I love that you left it olds powered too! I'm so tired of ls swap in everything these days. All your cutlass needs now is 3.42 or 3.55 gears and a locker and it would be almost perfect!!!
Please put a trans temp gauge on this build. Those GM overdrive trans make a lot of heat especially if the rear gear is freeway flyer 3:08s or numerically lower. Will cook the trans if not careful cruising at highway speeds with no trans cooler (or even with one actually).
If my tired old 318 in my Dart would make 190, or even 150, I would probably have a lot of tickets. Nice Cutlass! Not a gutless. Great work and great videography and editing, really enjoyed it!
Looks great dude 👍🏻👍🏻
Really came alone good. Especially the front core support with the modification it looks fine.👍🏾🏁🏁🏁🏁
looks like someone got some new cameras! love it
Great car and great work. Does not need a swap in my opinion, just a headliner and some finishing touches and she will be a great cruiser!
i plan on doing a 200r4 swap in my regal, and this is pretty much exactly how i plan on doing it. Thanks for the video! :D
such good content, fun to watch bro!
Such a great looking car, you've done the previous owner proud.
Greatest words ever spoken "and that's how you that, whenever you do this" lmao you're the best 😆🤘
Great production and content in this!
Cars a animal! You need a roll cage lol
Yeah dude, it's SERIOUS!
Best part of the mechanic glove craze/movement is no one can prove you did the botch job!! No fingerprints!
Headed to Pebble Beach! Ha! Mint. Great video.
Best music of all the automotive channels! 🤘🏻
The rear seat arm rests are out of a convertible lol
But keep up the good work
Lol, that seems to check out. Thanks for the info!
1 lane over at the stop light !!!!!
Looks awesome...
I'd be happy!!
"I'll give it a go."🤔😊🙂
Those little belt grinders are awesome! Not something you use every day but awesome for specific tasks. I have two of them and I love them
Loving the content dude, keep it lit and keep it going 👍
No stopping now!
The car looks good. Little idea , get a plastic cement mixing tub at the big hardware stores. There're great for changing oil and trans fluid. They are about 24" x 18". Less spills. As always you do great work!
Thanks!
A sweaty man with ATF doused shirt. Way to keep it real Tony! Love the show! Keep up the content!
Great vid. It looks great and you should be proud to drive that thing around. Drive it and enjoy it. Sweet looking Olds!!
That's the plan! just some shocks and springs and put down a bunch of miles!
@@StayTunedTA
👍🏻. Another 75-100 horsepower and torque somewhere down the road, whenever that would be. Just please keep it Olds powered. I’ll be sick to my stomach if you put a LS in it lol.
Love the jungle Jim shirt! I was in West Chester not too long ago and went to the spot where he died. Very odd for him to lose it there. So sad.
It looks like such an awesome ‘bad guy’ car mobbing down the road
Awesome revival! Cool to see this car on the road again!
You want to make more power get rid of the edelbroke and drop a Holley brawler 600 or 650 vac sec carb!
Agreed, shift works is definitely the way to go
Nice hog Tony! LOL this channel is a must watch great work as always
Tony's classic car parts 👌 All that nice swap meat material!
Olds is lookin saweeeet Tony! Now you just need a buick gs455 to complete the BOP PKG! Can't wait to see the poncho runnin and creatin tire fire!!!!
Looks pretty good... You might see about pushing the headlights back abit so you can get the bumper more better.
All this Cutty content. You’re spoiling me
Soak it UP!
Love the new camera! Please sure on stabilization I'm already drunk! lol This channel rocks!!!
Can wait to see that second Gen camaro you got that's going to be a monster
Nice to see both Olds (and Pontiacs) being featured. Pontiac man, myself.
I love this car dude. Just a healthy cruiser that you can party with if ya really want to.
Those Rocket 350's were rated at 250 hp back in 1970. At least that's what the air cleaner claimed.😊
the first car I bought in 1975 was a 69 cutlass S. It cost $525.
The BOP engine is cool, kinda hoping you'll throw a W30 cam at it or something when it's all done. It's a cool cruiser and big enough to take the whole family out for ice cream.
I wish Tony could come to nh and do so work on my truck this guy is amazing
Wait, you're a Mopar guy too right? Love it. A bottle in the trunk would be ok too.
Olds is looking great Tony!
Thanks! We just used what came with the car for most of it, seemed to turn out!
That thing is pretty sweet!
Edelbrock heads and comp XE cam will uncork that engine. looking good
Lov the whole shot of nitro. It will make a good cruiser to just have fun in.
Great build. You might want to double check all of the bolts on the front bumper. It was noticeably shaking as you drove down the road.
I’ll check it out, thanks for watching.
Love it! Keep it coming
Good job on the ear muffs. I so wish that I had worn hearing protection more when I was younger. I have a lot of hearing loss now particularly in the higher ranges. Also constant tinnitus. Also love the shifter section.
Yeah, I feel you. I lost a bunch of hearing from race cars and had a side airbag blow out a bunch of my left ear on a stunt shoot so I do what I can to keep what I've got.
@@StayTunedTA WWHHAATT
We used to nitrous the hell outta 305 and 307's in the late 80's to mid 1990's. Why? Nobody wanted them. We would get solid engines for very cheap if not free because others were building the 383 craze. Cam and springs was the extent of Longblock. The external goodies we just carried from engine to engine - a torque 2 intake, 750 holley mechanical and cheapest 1.75 headers we could find. Junkyard Hei ignition with good coil and module. Most of the time it was just a 125-175 shot. Please remember this was 30+ years ago. We had a blast quite literally. Very rarely did we knock out pistons or rods. And we always had 3 or more longblocks ready to roar. Oh FYI much of the time we used whatever head came with engine. In ourbudget view it was great if we had a 1.94 intake valve. Lol sorry being long-winded. Just sharing old days of no money hotrodding. Be well all of you. Safe travels one and all.
Awesome car buddy
Laughed out loud @25:02 nonchalant bicep zoom 😂😂
HAHAH, our new video guy thinks he's hilarious (he is).
Tony’s Philly “Yo!” anytime he needs something has me smelling cheese steak and Nick Foles through my phone
If the car originally came with a 1 piece bench seat, it will usually not have the 2 center mounts welded to the floor. You'd have to get a set from a car that came factory with buckets or a split bench. Gm also used various sized shims between the seats and the seat tracks to level things out. Shim size usually different in each corner.
Coool beans! Friend had a blue 442 same year. Not fast but ccol.
I had a 71 Cutlass in 89-90 that my dad bought for me for graduation present. Dad was with the original owner when he bought in 71. Dad paid 250.00 for it I had the 350 turbo rebuilt thrower a set of American tear drop wheels and drove the crap out of it. I wish I had that car back
I love that car, keep going boys.
