Had a 2001 Tundra with the same drivetrain that passed 500,000 with the stock alternator, PS pump, AC that all still worked great when I upgraded to a new Tundra. I did have to put Thorley headers on it to fix the manifold leak. I live in the north woods of MN. Nowhere worse to test a vehicle’s durability.

    Pro tip:
Throw those chrome lugnuts in the garbage. The steel nut under the chrome rusts, which swells the chrome cap. When you go to remove the wheel, it rounds off the nut. I dont even play that game in my shop. Unless they're brand new, i cut the chrome off and pound a 18mm socket on the remaining steel nut. The customer then gets new steel nuts.

So stoked your wrenching on yours! We’re in Maine and have a well maintained Florida 03 LX470 we bought last year. I did some baseline maintenance to get it to a known quantity. NO ONE around us wants to touch this thing so I’m left to my own devises. Currently doing ride height sensors on the front end after putting up with the bouncy front end for long enough. Right now we’re stock height too w slightly oversize BFG ATs. Maybe a ironman in the future; we use it the same as you do, soccer mom/dad, daily driving abuse etc etc.. I’ll be watching!

I am in Aus and have a 2001 LX 470, bought it for a great price just before Covid hit, love this vehicle every thing you say about them is spot on, just finished a major upgrade and turned it into a full on camping machine, twin lithium batteries under bonnet, 3000 watt inverter, drawer fridge under bed platform,270 awning with walls, solar panel on roof rack, twin jerrycan holder also on rack with spare tyre, in Aus a lot of these are converted to run on LPG which is more than half the cost of petrol but the tank for the LPG is where the spare tyre used to sit, drove the car for 3 months before realizing it didn’t have a spare. Love your winch set up be interesting to see how it performs.

Love the 470. I bought one back in 99' and wish I never sold it.
I was with him until he went with the receiver mounted winch. They work for straight or close to straight pulls, but beware of anything that's less than a 45deg pull to the side (anchor points are rarely where you need them). I've seen several rip the factory hitch right off the truck. Also, I'd invest in synthetic winch line because it's safer, stronger and lighter. $.02

Bought two sets of connectors cut the jumper cables and Soldered the connectors so I can use the jumper cable as intended or disconnect the last foot of the jumper cable and plug it up to the winch. I mounted a RV bumper mount receiver and mounted it to the trailer. The winch is on a receiver mount.

Frame rust is the Achilles heel of these vehicles for sure. I've owned an '87 Land Cruiser from California and a 98 Cruiser from New Jersey. The 87 was obviously rust free and immaculate when I got it. 10 years of NY winter driving and the frame was so rusted through it was not repairable. The 98 had been rust proofed every year by the previous owner. After scraping off the thick layer of crud the frame was total Swiss cheese. It's inevitable.

I love Toyotas. I own a 2005 Tacoma SR5 and it is the most stupidly reliable truck ever. Only flaw is the cruddy 6 speed manual transmission that is fragile like glass. Pro tip: get an automatic if you buy a V6. Other than that, it can't be killed. Mine has like 300,000 miles on it and it runs like new. Whenever some kid asks what he or she should buy as their first car my recommendation is ALWAYS a Toyota Corolla, because it'll never need more than an oil change, so they can out the money they save aside for a fun car while they daily drive the Toyota.

Yeah, you aren't wrong man. I HATE the time it takes to deal with rust right. Muscle cars I'm always looking at southern stuff.

Nice LX470! Your channel is awesome, real world rides that we all can relate to. Is your 470 bagged or sprung? I wish I could add a LC to my fleet.

I had an 87 Toyota pickup with 33’s.. I beat the crap out of it in the woods. even rolled it pushed it over and it started and continued to drive. I got 290,000 thousand miles out of it.. I drive an 07 Yaris now. Bought it for 15 in 07 with 15,000 miles.. I now have 230,000.. Will always be a Toyota lover.. 🍻👍

I had a 97 landy last of 2jz and solid axle front. Jump seats in back would seat 7 all together. Regret selling it. Best rig I ever had.

Oh shit you're out in the middle of PA monster truck country!!!! John Seasock works for Black Rock and is a multi time Monster Jam world finals champion, the Slifko's have a towing company in Pottsville (former drivers of Eradicator and Backdraft) and Alex Blackwell still runs for Monster Jam from time to time. Sweet deal dude!!!!

By Canadian standards, that truck looks about 5 years old.

The LX470 is pretty bulletproof, but be careful fording with it, there's either the amp or a body control module in part of the passenger footwell that is inevitably the first thing that gets wet and it's no bueno. But other than that and the gas mileage, it's awesome.

@@branchandfoundry560 I can't remember the exact specifics of it -- it was a friend of a friend's car, but yeah, you might have to like, extend a wiring sub harness but certainly something that could be moved.

Iam suprised you didn't cut out the rot out of chassis then weld good new in then weld to that given your welding skill level & skill
