If you have the time and resources I would try to DIY some of the simpler things in the future. There are many E39 UA-cam videos on oil changes, windshield trim replacement, brakes, etc. Some of these things are easier than you'd think :)

My friend they robbed you on the windshield seal. Its dirt cheap direct from bmw think about £45 and all you do is pull old one off and squeeze on the new one. Took me 1/2 hour. Beautiful car though.
